# Jun 15 2004 at 6:58 AM Rating: Default
My main is a chanter, but as such I have the wonderful opportunity to find all sorts of neat & fun items here & there for my 2box SK, although he's not yet high enough lvl to get any real xp while in grp with me as I'm 65 and he's like 46 or so, BUT...

I got this weap for him a long time ago and I absolutely LOVE it! I got mine from a friend that was selling off everything from his SK and just happened to be in the bazaar while he was selling his stuff, and I had been looking for a long time for one of these as they are rather rare, well, they were like a year ago when I got mine.

When you first think about getting nice & rather powerful drop-able weapon for your SK, your're thinking gotta have a nice dmg/dly ratio, and I dont want it to be "too" heavy and all, so you look around and find a few things here and there. Like of course an Ebon Mace, Noct Blade, and a few other goodies here and there. Then you see this, but most people don't search for piercer's for SK's so they dont even know this exists. I do my research for stuff here on Allakhazam's first myself, but many others dont, their loss, hehe. Anyhow... sure SK's dont have the same max skill lvl in Pierce as they do 1hs/1hb/etc... but not by a whole lot.

So this sucker is light as can be, high damage, low delay, SK only =0) has some saves to it & a little stat boost too, and has a sweet name, sure it's graphic needs an update IMO as it just looks like a standard dagger, so if others want to email/feedback Sony about a graphic update like I have we'll hopefully get a nice updated look =0)

Anyhow, what I do myself is use this as my primary, when I ding each lvl I swap it out for my 1hs/1hb then 2hs/2hb and once they each get max'd I switch back to the Shard of Night until the next lvl =0) This makes for some really nice dps IMO. as an Unbuffed lvl 42 DE SK I was getting 80's on average, but that was the last time I did any screenshots or really paid any attention to the dmg output. So I sure like it :D

Once my SK gets into the higher lvl's I'll be happy to retire this for some of the nice PoP weap's out there of course, but for now & until then, I'll be rather content to use this handy dandy dagger.

Great Bang for the $$$ though you have to admit, plus you wont tire out on long, multi-mob pulls, etc... so thats another thing to keep in mind.

So I dunno why so many people out there don't use this, and can't tell ya why it's so cheap, doesn't make much sense to me considering how great a weap it has been for me & my SK. Should be interesting to see how it works out at lvl's 50+ =0) although I do have a Vengeful Diamond Blade as well, the Shard of Night still has better dps with my setup (unbuffed anyway) but we'll see what happens as I get this char into the 50's =0)
#Yevun, Posted: Aug 19 2003 at 2:21 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) its worth so little sicne most sk's are going the 2hs route. As well as other items around the same ratio. These also are almost 4-5 expansions old. Lammy's are still great weapons but are only worth 1k now on the 7th, they used to rune around 5k when i started an i used to here people before that say they used to go for 20k+

You always get stats from items in range slot. You never get stats from items in ammo slot but can get effects such as ultravision, eb, etc.
However, this item doesn't go in range slot... notice it says primary secondary only and range and ammo arent listed.

with skill of 200 and 217 str my max hit is for 108, dual attack works well with this and this weapon in my hands easily out damages even my windblade (counting DPS over an extended fight) So far the shard has beaten every weapon in my inventory, ebon, MoSS, Noct blade, and weighty pole arm, windblade (its the misses here that always tank the average dps), only the two tined corpse pitchfork has beaten it so far but when bash is factore in.. itrs close.

I know by looking at the ratio and the numbers it makes no sence but I am just reporting what I have found in my battles. There is something that is just special about this weapon - its DPS is freaking awesome.
I dunno...

I can easily admit that this weapon is better than an ebon mace, and if I won one in a raid, I'd probably use it over my mace despite my piercing skill of 10 and my Blunt skill of 165. But on the Quellious server, it goes for around 15,000p, and ebon mace goes for 3000 roughly, I suppose because the mace doesn't give the crappy stats, (5 STR and a couple of saves isn't really gonna help that much. 5 int and the mana's kinda nice I guess) and because there's 2 more damage with the same delay as the mace. But is the 2 extra damage really worth the additional 12,000 in funds? As implied in the title of this post, I dunno...

I got this a few days ago on the nameless. Traded 8k + a Crafted Velium Warlance for it. Its my best weapon so far, i'll keep the ebon and nocti around for practice but this weapon is great, better dmg/dly than ebon, with my haste its even better, the str int and mana make it that much sweeter. Right now im lvl 46 my str is 223, sta 110 agi 108 dex 100 int 143 wis 98 cha 65. My 1hp is at about 155, and i hit for about 50 on average, so far max was 85, bu ive only used it in 2 fights. Im pretty good at soloing, i like having good all around stats, makes me good at soloing since i have quite a bit of mana, and im a pretty good tank, without having to switch gear around. Id suggest getting a Silvery belt of contention if you're an SK, it costs about as much as an Sodb on the nameless and is 10ac 4sta 5int 5wis. its the same haste as FBSS, or mebbe a bit higher, but it was worth the 7k i paid for it.

This is my primary 1 handed weapon and my MoSS is practically retired (I just uses it when I ding to keep da skills up).

The low delay coupled with a FBSS and SoS has me stabbing like mad!

A definte must have for any serious SK!

Rogue backstabs

If you don't know things first hand then just don't post. Rogues can backstab for over 600. I personally know one that doublebackstabs for over 1200 regularly and that was only with the epic. How high the backstab is depends on your attack rating which is in turn affected by the weapon you use and your stats. To get over 600 backstabs you need in excess or 1300 attack which is achieved by having 255 in every melee stat a good weapon and even using goblin earing because that adds around 17 to your attack.
If you want over 600 backstabs then you should make a Barbarian Rogue.
And just on a side note that rogue who can backstab for over 600 was also able to defend Lodi against 14 people of a guild who tried to KS him and a Druid friend.

A few weeks ago, while on a masacre of the Royal family for just few items for our cleircs and enchanters and wars for their epic, we stumpled upon this thing. I was lucky enough to get it. This weapon is awesome in overall performance, even though the skill cap isn't as high as the other weapon skills. I hit for a max of 112, averge is about 80. this was a total improvement from my ebon in dmg and stats and it only wts 0.6. This will definately be my weapon till my epic. The only small downside to it is it's look. Looks just like a plain Fine Steal Dagger =P, but i still wouldn't trade it for any other Sk tradable weapon. Hope they don't nerf it =/

This weapon is not for rogues and rightfully so, but to the guy who said rogues can BS for 700+ with BR... your an idiot. I have been in various high lvl zones and have never seen a rogue BS for more then 500. Maybe i am not paying close enough attention, but 400s are as high as i have seen. Therefore this weapon would make the damage around 700-800s.... what almost all spell casters can nuke for at 55+. Just something to think about.

running all yer DoTs u can outdamage mebbe even warriors but when u oom, warrior will easily outdamage SK. but there is more than one weap out there with better melee dmg than epic (I.E. Reaver, Primal 2h weaps, Exquisite 2h weaps, Tempered 2h weaps, etc.) these all leav something to strive for after epic.

as for rogues, is such a pity that being the absolute highest melee dmg dealers in game isnt enough. and lootwhores abound as it is, yet some want to be able to use loot that doesn't and shouldn't belong to them.

if my main were rogue i would be more concerned with ways to avert aggro and/or personal dmg then ways to increase my own dmg output. a few sloppier rogues are just never happy til they are tanking themselves into a dirt-nap.

Rogues can't use high damage piercers on purpose. There was for a time a no rent one that was 15 damage or something and highly desired for its HUGE backstab damage. Verant even nerfed that though it was no rent.

I think the max dam they allow for a rogue piercer is 13 damage.. or maybe 15 now. That is why you will see piercers for other classes with higher damage.

Its also called "balance." Weapons like these are meant to scale up the damage that a paladin and sk can put out in encounters. They are supposed to be nearly 3/4 of the damage that a warrior does when both are uber but they were less than half. They rectified that by putting them on the warriors combat table at 51 plus and adjusting some weapons and/or putting new ones in.

The reason whey the knight classes do less is they have no dual attack of course, so you'll only mostly see insane, fast, high damage 1 hand ratios like this on newer pally and sk weapons. The knight is supposed to get the largest damage from the big slow 2hands though which are 40 speed or slower, giving a damage bonus and now another damage bonus at 50 plus. Verant said that they are the target for the highest damage, giving them more potential than even 1 hands and a shield which are this good. I guess that would mean the pally and sk epic are still probably the best for them for the most part.

Jesus! I'm sick of tired off stupid ignorant rogues going "What the hell? 21 damage and piercing? Rogues should get it!It's not fair! You ignorant pieces of trash. Hmm..rogues can do about 700 damage backstabbing with RB and 21 damage would be like +50% more damage backstabbing so like a 55+ rogue would be doing 1k+ damage backstabbing and about 2.5k when doubling. Sure, that would really be fair. I mean, youre only level 28, why do you need to be backstabbing for 300?

does an SK good to have two entirely seperate types of gear: group & solo

when i solo, i use all the int gear i can to keep mobs feared and snared (nothing ruins your day like seeing a worked over mob knocked to 25% health, feared, and running away faster than you can and you are oom: hard work gone to waste)

sometimes i even wear a guardian robe when soloing for the 8int and 45mana because i like to have 3 giants in BW under my belt before i have to med. and mana comes back faster than HP.

as for weap, my solo item is a reaver for the 40dmg/40dly. i was pretty lucky to obtain it, as it drops form an uber mob, but i traded a noct and shield of senschal for it before the melee patch. being erudite, it is easy for me to work up to 175int without getting it from a weap, but IMHO mana = soloability. as warriors are far superior in HP and melee dmg than SKs, they still have a hard time soloing for decent XP. with the spells i am obtaining now, it seems that soloing is getting progressively easier for SK in later levels, which helps balance the fact that it gets harder to find a group.

i guess my point is, INT is very important to a "soloing" SK, but u don't need it on every item u wear or wield. this weapon is great as it creates more diverse reason for SK to train yet another weap skill. considering the mob it drops from, i just wish the ratio was at least as good as the uber 1hs that drops form the same zone (27dmg 25dly i think), also recognizing the fact that piercing caps considerably lower than 1hs, 1hb, 2hs, & 2hb.

it is 40/40 12sv all and, unfortunately, non-magic but makes a great solo weap for specific areas nonetheless.

Shred I have seen you "solo" in BW. Your version of soloing is tring to stuff well above you and if you can't handle it you FD. Thing is your FD's often run right over folks outside the fort too.

Why don't you practice learning to play where you don't endanger others then you can post here and you might have some credibility.

gee ... wonder who this may be ... (sarcasm)

for someone in a respectable guild, your actions are quite petty.

but since you brought it up, the only time i had trouble was when your pally would snag my pulls. (she apologized for it once so it wasn't like she automatically got aggroed) in turn, i had to beat on em to take the kill back, which really is no help to someone who fear kites. (direct tanking) and that was no place to fear because the path would return the mob behind the ramp and back to the ramp mob's aggro range. when i am in INT gear (not AC gear), it is hard to stay alive in direct melee.

i used to camp there and have ppl pull by me with little to no probs. if i got hit too much i moved down inside a bit as i realize many ppl solo there and "safe" space is limited. i guess i'm just not "uber" enough to walk around telling ppl they have to give way to me or otherwise be considered rude.

btw, i totally understand why you only posted a guild name instead of your character.

this is a shadowknight only weapon, so if you are going to complain about it having a low int rating then get your head examined, you should be a necromancer not a shadowknight. Shadowknights need to have high Intellegence, sure, but not at the expence of a better ratio or better all arround stats, my sk would rather have this than a moss, i have a Troll sk, and frankly i've been kicking ars for two days and am already lvl 20, 10 levels a day without PLing, I target my weak spots so i twinked him with Sentient stuff, agi and dex raising stuff and now my stats are something like 147str, 129sta, 107dex, 107agi, 55wis, 107int, and a whooping 25cha. If you are a sk who has over 100 int, then be happy, but also have the smarts to realize that you are a Melee class and sacrificing your first four atributes for more int, so you can cast those late level necro spells is just silly. stick with the slash, bash, slam, spell, slash bash, spell method and it will pay off.

A shadowknight who relies only on his spells is either a necromancer without the armor, or a dead shadowknight.

I've played a SK since EQ came out, I've taken breaks and leveled alts and twinks to level 20 or 30 just so I dont get too bored, at level 51 now, I cant help but wonder why so many SKs worry about NEEDING so much mana- it comes in handy yes, but as a DE SK with a SoN with 158 str, 98 stamina, and 119 int and a mere 963 AC and 1898 unbuffed HP, I can solo a seafury without fear kiting, and still have 40% mana and 60% health left, just using my mana for debuffing..int is valuable, but damage output is equally valuable..and that little hit drain hit drain blah blah strategy..that stops working efficiently after level 45..you start mana dumping your drains at that point and you finish a dark blue with mostly full hp and no mana instead of 80% hp and 50% mana if you use all your dots with good AC and reasonable hp.

Dunno, post level 39 the ability to slap 2 AC debuffs (shadow vortex and heart flutter) on every mob you pull is going to help the warriors and damage dealers kill the mobs faster. Try doing that for hours of chain pulling with a low INT.

You can either have a problem that warriors, monks, rogue and rangers outdamage you and try to change it, or you can figure out how to maximize your other abilities. The ability to grab a MOB at will with huge taunting spells in the hallmark of the SK on main assist.

That being said, this weapon rocks enough that I'd take the five lost int from trading in my MoSS to wear it. It's all well and good to have guiding principles, but with the low delay and amazing ratio, this will help your already Uber taunt, for when you need to remind the MOBs who to beat.

If only my guild would let me in to Chardok :P

The truth is... in a group higher int only does so much. I higher int isnt going to help. Even if you had 200int.... once that mana is gone it isnt going ot come back any faster than if you had 50int.

My advice:

If you are soloing a lot of int is great. You need all that mana to finish off a mob. But in a group you really dont need that much int. Chances are whatever your int is, if you are chain pulling it will never fill up all the way anyway. In a good group your should rarely have over 3 bubble of mana, unless you are resting up for a big uber mob.

No.... the real secret in a group is getting a clarity on you. That will help you keep up with the chain debuffing way more than a high int.

Trust me, my main partner is a Shadownight.

um ... dood ... w/o spells you are a weak warrior (less HP, less AC, no kick, no dual wield)

twinkin' will only get you so far, then you compete against ppl who have had to make the most out of lesser gear, and end up being a superior SK for it.

i will dish out some kudos for you not PLing your SK tho ... rock on ... PLed players have no sense of their true limits. a little here and there in the tougher levels doesn't make much difference, but being PLed 10-20 lvls at a time will all but ruin the quality of a player in that particular class.

Twinks don't count. Try playing your Troll Shadowknight on the Firiona Vie server and then post about how uber you are.

You can see her wielding it

MoSS has 10int and is 19/29, this weapon is 21/24, it's the perfect upgrade for a DE sk who already has a high base int but is weak as hell. Also, the epic is 2 handed, you going to complain about that too? This is a sweet weapon and woops the MoSS's tiny ugly butt.

Does INT matter as much as ratio? Think about it 19/29 compaired to 21/24...

Nearly has the melee of pre-upgraded Frostwrath, very impressive...though I'm sure it drops off some royalty or something

This will be the weapon of choice of SK's everywhere for 1 handed if they don't nerf it. I'm glad I've kept up my piercing! This would allow you to bypass all the weapons listed by Eitsekur. They have certainly given SK's many reasons to go to Chardok! :D

Hmm...droppable...better ratio than Sword of Pain, Noct, Ebon Mace...built-in Strength...one-handed...

The fact that it's piercing _MIGHT_ discourage some, but not many, I imagine...really a incredible weapon, and if this is anything but an ultra-rare drop, it will destroy the market for Noct / Ebon even further, I imagine, especially for those that got their hands on one of the decent SK piercers early on (my SK on Bristlebane server used a Stalagterror Spear for a while, very nice weapon for a Shadow Knight and cheap). Shadow Knights have a lot to look forward to in the new Chardok already (Couple new 2hs weapons, Engraved Di'zok Deathbringer, and now this...)

[EDIT] One more thing I was thinking about but forgot to mention: anyone know what this thing looks like? Hoping for a Spine Chiller or Slimy Harpoon look... *grin*

I'd take this weapon, Don't know if I'd ever use it.

We've got all our SK's SoP by now, if not one of them would take it.

The only time a SK should be using 1h weapons is when they are tanking, so with the 10 ac on the SoP, plus the manaless Grim Aura, the SoP is a far more practicle Tank weapon.

Go with 2h if you aren't tanking

Dai

Well, addendium, I could see using this and a shield of rainbow hues for resists on uber mobs with AoEs Still very situational.

Your forgetting that this thing drops off the queen, definately the toughest mob in Chardok and definately on the harder mobs in Kunark. Unlike, say, noctivagant blade and ebon mace, this thing will never be aquired by a pickup group. Since only high level guilds will be able to get this thing, it probably won't be sold for a while. I really don't think it will affect the price of sk weapons much.
