New masks for Luclin
# Dec 12 2001 at 8:38 AM Rating: Decent
Hopefully the new expansion will allow us rogues access to some new masks! Sadly, I've not seen any drop yet, but I live in hope that somewhere in Griegs end or Snakeman Temple there's a Dwarf or Cat mask. I just hope they're not as tough to get as the darned Barbie mask :)

Iksar hide mask(bard/rogue)-iksar
Guise of the deciever(all)-dark elf
Mask of deception(bard/rogue)-dark elf
Mask of the coercer(bard/rogue)-high elf
Mask of obtenebration(bard/rogue)-erudite
Flayed barbarian mask(bard/rogue)-barbarian
Mask of the tinkerers(bard/rogue)-gnome
Ball of everliving golem(all)-earth elemental
Amulet of necropotence(all*)-skeleton
Neriad Shawl(bard/enc)-water elemental
Lute of the howler(bard)-werewolf
Dessicated halfling mask(bard/rogue/enc)-halfling

These are all the illusions I know of, the names I believe to be correct but could be slightly off.
All the classes can use and cast the illusion.
Aside from given racial abilities (infrasion/ultravision/factions/etc) the following illusions also include unique bonuses.

Werewolf grants you upto 30str, 100atk rating(not including str bonus) 40% spell haste, has unique faction adjustments including a bonus with chaotic-neutral creatures such as lions and tigers and bears (oh my) and even some undead. Although you will be KoS in almost all cities.

Earth elemental grants you a decent strength bonus.

Water elemental grants permanent enduring breath.

Skeleton has a quite useful (especially for PvP) bonus of immunity to blind, snares, and roots.

Iksar hide mask-Trakanon's Teeth
Guise of the deciever-Lower guk(no longer drops**)
Mask of deception-Lower guk
Mask of the coercer-Quest relating to rogue epic
Mask of obtenebration-Charasis
Flayed barbarian mask-Kael
Mask of the tinkerers-Sleeper's Tomb
Ball of everliving golem-Cazic Thule
Amulet of necropotence-Plane of Fear
Neriad Shawl-Siren's Grotto
Lute of the howler-Velketor's Lab.
Dessicated halfling mask-Chardok

*Amulet of necropotence can't be worn except by mag/nec/enc/wiz but can be used from the inventory by any class.

**Guise of the deciever was replaced by Mask of deception due to imbalance of game due to all class/races being able to be dark elves, it also didn't follow good roleplay..... gotta love those dark elf monks, rangers, paladins and many others. =)

This is a pretty thorough listing of illusions, not the greatest detail but I hope it helps. I probably wont reply back to post, but feel free to leave corrections.

Haha... thats gotta be the saddest thing i ever heard. I'm glad they're making all these masks, it's the easy/lazy workaround to the lack of a disguise type skill.

Wasted on a halfling?!?
# Oct 31 2001 at 1:28 PM Rating: Decent
OK, now, i know this sounds stupid but hear me out.
We had a chanter, a rogue, a bard, 2 tanks, and a cleric, now, we all agreed the chanter, bard, rogue should roll for it. So they did, the rogue won. The strange thing is, he's already a halfling, and the other members were very upset. This should go to who WINS the roll no matter what. the rogue is kos in his home city, and now, because of the mask, he is NOT! And besides, us halflings get bored with our look (as with all classes) instead of being the blonde one, now i can be the brown cute one!

# Feb 04 2004 at 3:22 AM Rating: Decent
That would surprise me as I am a DE rogue and I picked up a DE mask in Guk the other day while fooling around. When I used the illusion it did not change the way I looked at all.
But changed forms use the same face as the one you have now

If you have the third face for dark elf, you have the third face for halvling with the mask on.

So I really doubt the validity of this. Plus only a form change changes faction, a change to your own form does not change it at all.

Actually from what I've seen there is an:
dark elf mask
erudite mask
iksar mask
barbarian mask
gnome mask
halfling mask
high elf mask
water elemental shawl
Lute of the Howler

ALSO

Illusion Earth elemental item
Illusion Air elemental item
Illusion Fire elemental item

the air and fire I've yet to see for myself but I've seen the rest. Matter fact, Today (10/30/2001)I saw a bard in earth elemental form but I didn't ask what the name of the item was that did it.

All of them are usuable by bards, most by rogues, some by enchanters.

Actually Bards have more illusion items than Rogues or Enchanters, I dont understand why an Enc would want this item, they could just cast an illusion spell.

Fennjek just wants to see more halflings in Norrath to lessen his chances of being consumed during raids by HoN's resident Ogres and Trolls.

Don't mind him, he's a little gun-shy after one of our Ogre Shadowknights ran out of bait fishing in Cobalt Scar and used Fennjek at the end of the pole instead. He's never been the same since, poor guy. But better him than me! Mwhahahahah.

woops. meant to reply here the first time...

2 nights ago i camped the mask for about 2 hours and 2 masks dropped back to back. the next morning i spent about 4 hours there and a third mask dropped. there is a 29 min timer on corpse, so plenty of time for an alt or friend to get there.

good luck )

Permanent
# Oct 30 2001 at 1:46 AM Rating: Decent
As an enchanter, I've paid a lot of attention to the discussions on making illusions last on log out/zone, and from what I remember reading, it just isn't possible by current game mechanics. There is a chance that they changed the code to last across zones and log outs, but I doubt they would do this without announcing it, especially since that's one of the class fixes enchanters specifically asked for when they went over all the classes for balance.

A permanent illusion has now been implemented for Enchanters. I don't know what the name of it is (as I don't play an Enchanter) but it is the scaled wolf thingie (or whatever). The illusion stays through zoning and even after logging.
RE: Permanent
# Oct 30 2001 at 7:28 AM Rating: Decent
When GMs change form, its permanent until they specifically change back to their old form. There's simply no reason that they couldn't have illusions that last indefinitely other than balance issues. This, however, is not what is meant when it says the type is permanent. It means that effect takes effect immediately upon equipping the item. As i said in an earlier post, this is most likely a mistake on the part of the poster or Illia.
RE: Permanent
# Jul 09 2002 at 9:33 AM Rating: Good
There is actually a difference with GMs they actually change their race. It is not an illusion it is a physical change in race wich of course will last across zoneing and camping. You must remember GMs can do anything they want to do.

So if this thing's a chanter's dream, then I wonder what that makes an Incadescent Mask? +7 Cha AND +5 int make it much more desireable to me as a chanter than a mask with equal charisma and an effect that I get as a spell at lvl 12.

It isn't just you inky's try being a High Elf going link dead next to a guildmaster in Neriak Commons, while in Illusion DE. I wouldn't recommend it, it's highly painful. It didn't help that I goofed and meant to go to the Library in 3rd Gate to get the Enchant Adamantite spell. Sigh what we do for complete spell books.

Although it does say it's permanent here, i seriously doubt it is. None of the other illusion masks are permanent, as far as i know, no illusion items in the game are permanent, & i could see how it could cause problems if people could just put it on & take it off instantly.

On another note, i felt it necessary to praise verant for making an illusion mask add a stat appropriate to the race it mimics.

If anyone can confirm or deny the permenancy, please let us all know. =)

Barbarian, Erudite, High Elf, Gnome, Dark Elf, Iksar, and the new Halfling
RE: Mask Races
# Oct 29 2001 at 6:26 PM Rating: Default
Kind of make sense though, rogues are masters of disguise so they should be able to fit in and whatnot, and bards have a lot of rogue-ish qualities.
RE: Mask Races
# Oct 29 2001 at 6:45 PM Rating: Default
wtf? rogues arent supposed to be masters of disguise? Rogues are the masters of:
thieving/stealing
sneaking about
assassinating
enchanters are the masters of disguise IMHO

rogues may use disguise some, but really they are supposed to hide/sneak rather than use disguises.

Bards shouldnt get these if you think about what that would mean... how many haflings go running about the city singing while beating on a drum?

enchanters are masters of illusions so that makes sence.

what WOULD be a better rogue item would be something like a Mask of shadows with an effect of gather shadows(although the item would be rather over powered if you could remain permenantly invis forever...would own in pvp)

oh well i hope i made my point... rogues arent masters of disuise! even if they get masks that make them able to be that.
RE: Mask Races

Have you ever seen a bar rogue trying to get into the dwarf's city bank? Well now they can. =)
RE: Mask Races
# Oct 29 2001 at 7:18 PM Rating: Default
I think what he meant was that in virtually any role playing game on the market (I mean paper and dice type), rogues/thieves/agents/etc are usually the ones that are most likely to be proficient with disguise skills. This has not been the case with EQ, as there is not "disguise" skill. I have to agree that it makes more sense for rogues (scouts, spies, whathave you) and bards (actors, impersonators, etc) to have items like this than it does for an enchanter to have them, simply because enchanters already have the spells to do this.
RE: Mask Races
# Oct 30 2001 at 7:59 PM Rating: Default
True but also true in many games, when you become X level, then X mob respect, revere, fear you. Whatever. Remember DnD? You ever play, legitimately, and hit level 20 or so? I doubt it, and if you did you probably walked into towns and the local Monarchy would become nervous. I have a level 13 Human Lawful Good Monk by Dungeons and Dragons rules. Know what he can do? Safe fall is exactly that, fall *ANY* distance as long as I'm withing 8 feet of a wall, no damage. Once a week I have a chance to use quivering palm which, upon a failed saving throw, means you die. Period. Sorta like an Everquest god screaming out your name, only you'd at least get a saving throw chance vs my monk. Know what else he can do? Heal himself, out damage many other melee's using just bare fists -- only for real, no level 50 monk in everquest outdamages some level 50 hasted jade mace having SOB warrior when the monk is using their hands.

In Everquest, a level 60 warlord can sit down next to a level 1 Orc Pawn and get attacked.

Disguise...skill? Right. Anyone ever notice that no class has any disguise, or illusion, that will allow them access to a KoS dragon tomb, or look like a Frost Giant, or.. walk among the Sarnaks in Lake of Ill Omen? Now, don't be cheap, I'm not talking about changing into a freakin wolf and having an Aviak con Indifferent to you all of a sudden. I mean a real illusion/skill with real intent and a proper place.

Rogues? Yeah, great. Hide/sneak. Wonderful. That's not a disguise though.

Here, let me help some of you out.. if you don't want to play a game where in the end you sit around with your buds, shoot the breeze, and go whoop on some dragon's butt, hope you don't die, and hope you might even win a loot.. don't play everquest.. If you want to kill people, PvP..want to feel all powerful, like some child running around pissing people off ... go play Ultima Online or go check out Dark Ages of Camelot, let the rest of us more mature gamers do our thing in peace.

Mask Races?
# Oct 29 2001 at 6:18 PM Rating: Decent
Sorry for the double post.

But anyway my question is, how many different masks are there/how many different races can you be?
I know of this one,
the Erudite mask,
the DE mask (Mask of Deception),
the Iksar mask,
and the High Elf mask (Sorry don't know the names).
What others are there, and could you maybe name them for me, so I can begin hunting for then, thnx.

May you always find SoW and Crack,
