Does NOT stack with 8th ring

Got the 10th ring a few weeks back, and did the quest again up to ring 8. The effects do NOT stack.

Although, the 8th ring is still useful, as the 10th ring doesn't stack with high level druid or shaman regen, and the 8th ring does.

What you do is click this, then use shield of the 8th. They should still stack. Giving 17-18 ds. Very nice ds.

best twink ring in the game probally. If u have a high level main with a good amount of money or a group of level 70 friends that are willing to help u, get this ring. It is pretty much a pl in a bottle. Also it has great stats, even for high players.

It's kinda double edged though. If you have the resources (time and high level friends) to do this, then you could spend it all just on directly PLing your alt from scratch. I'm sure he'd be well into his 60s by the time you get him this ring!

Firstly, It's a Clickie = A Must
Scondly, Does'nt matter what else you use, put it on, click it, take it off = free buff with whats described above.

How can you go wrong with this ring ?

It Does take up a buff slot, But, IMO, a buffslot for +10regen DS and ATK = not to shabbie

I think the question isn't if it's useful to have, but if it's worth the huge amount of time to acquire. I'm a ranger and so have my ranges of regen, DS, and ATK spells. I'd be a little frustrated to spend all that time to get this ring, only to discover it doesn't stack with one of my regular buffs!

Not only that but it also stacks with the 8th and 9th rings, sooooo.... if you really wanted too you could do the quest twice and get 18 ds for anyone without ds(sk's get 30 ds with both rings and their own ds) to 58 for ranja.

I am currently working on the 9th ring and I was wondering if you can lose dain faction after getting the 10th ring without losing the ring, or will the ring poof if your faction gets too low?

Thanks

P.S. - Does anyone know a good site with lots of info on the 10th ring war so I know what Im getting into when I decide to do it.

BUT im wandering does anyone know if there is a minimum level at which the NPCs will respond to you? could I hupothetically get this quest done a 36 given I get the high level people to help me? or at lvl40 or at 50 even.
Damage Shield

I have had my ring for quite a while now, and as a level 65 ranger, the one thing that I love the most about this is the fact that it stacks with Protection of the Wild and Bladecoat, enabling me to actually give myself a 50 point damage shield, increased atk and an extra 10hp/tic regeneration. Overall, this ring is a great asset to any class, period.
RE: Damage Shield
# Aug 22 2004 at 10:37 PM Rating: Decent
It'll stack because there's 3 different damage shields rangers can use... all stackable individually. The self "Coat" kind, the targeted "shield" or "Call" kind and the self massive buffs that have multiple effects in them. The massives block shield and Call DS's, but not coats, the ring counts as one of these massives.... blocks shield and call, stacks with coats

the monk epic effect does not stack with several other effects that increase ATK (e.g. grim aura, strength of nature). i only have 8th ring, which stacks with epic just fine, but i'm wondering if there are any monks out there with epic and 10th ring that can verify that both effects stack? the +10 ATK from Frostreaver's Blessing gives me the suspicion that perhaps they do not stack.

According to Lucy, Frostreaver's Blessing DOES indeed stack with Celestial Tranquility (that's the Monk Epic Effect, yes?). Here's the link:

Spearmen
# Apr 01 2003 at 4:27 PM Rating: Default
People, don't aggro the spearmen that line up on the west and east sides of the river on your ringwars. They will begin to summon your people and mow them down one by one. If you leave them alone they don't seem to summon anybody. If some bonehead on your ringwar starts attacking a spearman, what's going to happen is he will get summoned and attacked, your Cleric will heal that bonehead tank and then get summoned and atteacked themselves, then the whole damn line of spearmen will have to be taken out by your raidforce in-between waves (which really sucks).

It's best if a group can be assigned to clear the 2 lines of spearmen (starting at 1 end and working along) between the attacks, this makes it much easier to deal with the attacking squads of giants.

You can put a couple bards on Song of Highsun duty if you are short a group or two. Song of Highsun gates mobs back to their spawn points. So you just have the bards keep gating the giants back to their spawn points until you are ready for them.
RE: Bards!!

we did that for my ring whenever a mob got to close to the city, we would just highsun them and go fight the things on there way there. If something got past the lines of defense though we had 6-8 bards up there just highsunning the MFers back to spawn point

dex and agi are relatively unimportant stats.
RoA - rate of advancement (how often you get a skill-up)

what they affect:

str: max melee dmg, carry weight (common stat on many items, not too important). smithing RoA if higher than your wis or int.

sta: hit points. you can never have too many. also affects your yellow stamina bar and breath meter. get sta to 100+ to suffer no ill effects (except being unable to jump) from an empty yellow bar.

agi: marginal impact on AC. defensive skill(dodge, parry) RoA. possibly increases "proc" rate of avoidance skills (ex. higher agi may make you parry more often). it's important to note that you suffer a severe AC penalty for having an agi below 75, whether by encumbrance or sucky starting stats. so when starting a caster, i suggest a minimum of 80 agi(for some leeway with encumbrance) before you start loading up on wis or int.

dex: proc rate, archery damage, offensive skill (kick, 1hs) RoA. thus, most useful for rangers using bows, people training weap skills, and folks with really good weapon procs. possibly affects fletching RoA if higher than your wis/int.

wis/int: mana pool, fizzle rate, magic skill (channeling, abjuration) RoA, general ability (sense heading, forage) RoA, language skill RoA, all tradeskill RoA

cha: npc vendor prices, outcome of select spells

so, on the one hand you have melees focusing on str, sta, hp, and regen(coldain rings), and on the other you have casters and priests worrying about int/wis, hp, and flowing thought(coldain shawls). hybrids long for both, and nobody really cares about dex or agi =P.

which, unfortunately, is why they're so hard to raise for the people who seek them.

Actually if you ask any ranger over the lvl of 45 what stat they are trying to improve the most you will almost always hear Dex. Dex directly affects the acuracy and damage we do with bows, thus on raiding situations high dex means you will have a much higher DPS....Dex is an important stat to have at higher levels. Get a primal weapon and your gunna go crazy waiting for that first proc because of sh*tty Dex!

I agree with the other reply re: who the coldain are, but just to add to the ranga position that dex is a useful/important stat an SK with Soul Abbrasion 3 definitely is interested in raising dex because the procs from some of our spells can be really nasty with SA3.

Coldain don't make bloody Ranjas though... Just remembering this is still an RPG and you should consider who the Coldain (and thus who this stuff was intended for, at least from the coldains perspective if not SoE's). Even still the coldain should be magiking up some Dex items for their warriors (criticals) and Palys (undead proc).

Have to keep one eye on them human ones most of the time though me thinks. As to making the really special stuff I think the good Coldain would be wise to hoard it in prepartion for the next war that always comes up between the stout and lanky.

Ok....first I have a question....does this stack with the fungi?? If it does and you invest a bit of AAXP points in to the regen categories, you are looking at over 30HP per tick of regen. Also if you have good bind wound skill, you can do that at the same time to cut away at the downtime between fights. That is just my math. Also, to anyone whos participated in the Tenth Ring War....how fun is it.....and how likely are other guilds to help out??? Thanks!!

as far as help goes, you can be sure to get quite a few people to come and leech faction off all the giants and what not. Plus, the ring war is one of the most enjoyable fights you'll take part in.

When we did it, we took about 35 - 40 of our guild there, set up in front of thurgadin, and before the first wave hit as we spammed the zone that we were starting the war... we got close to 15 more people who just wanted to take part in it. Don't worry about getting help for this, it will come as everyone knows how cool it is to take part in :)

actually, fungi is one of the best, if not -the- best, tradable armors in the game. period. it mitigates a full 2.5 dmg per second, regardless of mob power(that's 150hp every minute that you never had to feel). there are many lvl 60s that swear by their fungis. if anything, warriors would ditch them first (for very -very- high ac bps), but those not normally tanking (rogues, rangers, monks, shamans - and how) would benefit more from a fungi than an 100ac bp. go do some figures. go pose some questions to the math gurus at The Steel Warrior. the fungi is a FANTASTIC breastplate at all but the very latest stages of the game.

thank god we have know-nothings like yourself, though. otherwise the fungi would be priced a lot higher than 50k.

so are these people out of their minds? hardly. but i might hazard a guess that you have yet to understand the mathematical fundamentals of eq gameplay.

You CAN wear a lower ring and a higher ring at the same time, just not 2 rings of the same 'level.'

Any guild that has an opportunity to finish the 10th ring quest will absolutely do it. Theres more loot that results from the finished quest than just this ring. Plus, you get bragging rights.
The end of the quest is like nothing I've ever seen in-game. Really brings together the Velious conflicts between the Coldain and their frost giant adversaries. You basically command a Coldain army and battle against the giants. The less coldain that die in the battles, the more loot you get at the end.
This is most incredible quest in the game.

And why wouldn't a guild do this for a necro? Unless this is a guild who considers itself "uber" and doesn't give a wit about helping other members with quests if they so desire. Guilds who neglet other members to make sure the Holy Trinity has the best gear out there makes me sick.

And this is a great item for tanks, shamans, and necros.
RE: ..

And if an 'uber' guild refuses to help their necros with this quest, they're missing a few brain cells...

Seriously, regen is *the* most coveted effect for necros...some will pay 75+ kpp for Zlandicar's Heart -- and that gives what, 5-6 hps / tick regen? The 10th ring gives TEN hps / tick...

Lich steals 24 hps per tick and gives 20...As an erudite sitting at level 58, I naturally regen 6 hps/tick. 10th ring would mean I lose 8 hps per tick due to lich instead of 18 -- drastically decreasing the amount of mana I have to spend to tap back lost hps.

ha "uber" guilds have better things to do than quest. sorry but its true. I'd rather make a push for time than help a necro get a ring, go figure. i want the best loot in the game and i want to get my guildies the best loot in the game, and doing quests doesnt kill boss mobs *thumbs up*

And that's exactlty why people say that joining uber guilds takes the fun out of playing everquest.

I'd personally much rather use time on helping a guildie with this quest just because of the fact that it's a lot of fun rather than make a push for time because maybe some other guild might pass my guild by in uberness..... get a life.

Then once you have the best loot in the game:

What the hell are you going to do with it?

Some people play this game for entertainment. Go figure.

I suppose your statement would be valid if every group had a shaman or druid in it. Or if necros never soloed.
Clarification
# Jun 25 2002 at 3:46 AM Rating: Decent
Death Pact 4hp for 2mana Lvl8
Allure of Death 8hp for 4mana Lvl20
Call of Bones 16hp for 8mana Lvl34
Lich 32hp for 20mana Lvl49
Demi Lich 48hp for 31mana Lvl56
Arch Lich 53hp for 35mana Lvl60
Master of Death 63hp for 44mana Lvl60
(Most of us will never even see some other necro with the last one)
So for example, my current level/race (56 DE) affords me 6regen per tick. Add a Zland heart, or a Robe of the Enslaved Soul (both are 5hp per tick, and as they have the same effect I don't think they stack but I could be wrong I have neither yet). Total of 11hp sitting per tick. Then add aura of battle for another 2, makeing it 13. Now add this item for it's 8, and you get 21hp per tick. Even with Chloro for 15 more and you get 36hp per tick, easily out paced by Demi Lich, and there are 2 more up grades to that.

So to put it plainly. A lvl 60 Necro, properly regenerateing, and not haveing to waste to much mana on life taps can almost double the mana regen on your cleric. And as we all know, and tank is nothing without a heal. We all need each other to Raid, but a necro doesn't need anyone to solo. Can any amount of regen allow a Warrior to Solo to 60?

Clarification on your clarification. Lich is 20 hit points for 20 mana at level 49. As of a patch over a year ago sometime, they accidently reduced its rate to 20 hp loss and they posted that they were going to leave it. It has been this way for quite some time.

Update on the Clarification of the Clarification ;)
Well if it did get changed to 20hp for 20mana, it got changed back, Eqcaster (the spell parser that I have personally never seen get any spells horribly wrong, other than splurt) reads 32hp for 20mana, and according to a RL friend whose a 52 DE necro, it's once again 32hp for 20mana, checked last night (since I have myself a young necro to play when LFG gets boring, and was doing research). Were you taking your innate regen and sitting/standing status into consideration when you discovered this? If you were somehow regenning 12points a tick, it would appear as 20 for 20.

Clarification on YOUR clarification. I don't usually speak up unless I know what I'm talking about. You might have a friend that plays a 52 necro, but I play a level 60 necro. I regenerate 15 hit points per tick sitting. With a level 49 lich, I lose 5 hp's per tick.

Heh I just checked how much hp I lose with each effect on me. (I don't have demilich yet)

Lvl 60 Dark Elf Necromancer Regen 10hp/tick sitting

spell change of hp actual damage done stated damage (eqcaster)

Dark Pact +7hp/tick -3hp/tick -4hp/tick
Allure of Death +4hp/tick -6hp/tick -8hp/tick
Call of Bones -2hp/tick -12hp/tick -16hp/tick
Lich -14hp/tick -24hp/tick -32hp/tick
Arch Lich -29hp/tick -39hp/tick -53hp/tick

If you take (actual damage)/(stated damage) you'll
find that the lich line does exactly 75% of the stated damage. I recall reading somewhere that the lich line didn't due full damage to a person because the effect was considered pvp damage. Its the same reason why spells and dots won't do full damage to other players in pvp. Verant realized this but thankfully decided to leave the "bug" as is.

Yes Lich line spells take in account the -33% damage of the PvP (ie real damage done = 66% damage written on the spell specs), that's why there is very few ratio improvement from Lich to Arch Lich (only speed modifications, you lose more hps you gain more mana), or you would get like 2 mana for each hp lost :D

Let's see... what do necros have to do with mana... hmm.

DoT (at level 60 necros get a 40dps DoT); Heal (I've given clerics room to get off CH with compacts before); mez adds WITH memory wipe; charm adds if undead; mana drain; debuff ac, atk, str, resists; and heal self with lifetap nukes/dots.

If you're playing a necro in a group and you're not constantly having to juggle to maintain enough mana, why AREN'T you?!

Well I play a 53 necro (almost 54) and I can see going out of the way enough to do this. One problem is that the benifits of the initial ring quests are minimal. The AC is nice, the STR helps you carry loot (esentially) and the MR is useful. But IMHO, until you get up to this one, the costs of the quests outweigh the benifits of the rewards.

Unfortunately, I made an erudite (Kunark wasn't out in 1999) necro, but I'm trying to imagine a level 60 Ikasar necro with this and in Demi-Lich form with a regen staff.... Not sure on all the numbers, but they may loose no health.

I probably wont persue this, but more power to any manna seeking casters that do!

This is the single best ring in existance at this point in time. Personally, I think every necro in the game should be after one of these. Good luck to ya...doubt you'll ever see one.

It will not stack with Okeil's Flickering Flame (big loss I know) or Call of Earth (a little more disappointing) or chloroplast. However the damage shield is more than twice of okeil's and call of earth and the regen is equal to chloroplast. basically it's like having both on you with one cast, great timesaver. The real advantage with stacking issues is the ATK bonus, it stacks with ALL other buffs that provide attack increases. For example a level 60 ranger could cast Strength of Earth and Call of the Predator on someone with this ring and all 3 attack bonuses would stack. That's a base increase of 75points to attack actual attack increase being noteably greater. So overall by using this effect your overall gain is 6DS equal regen and 10pts of attack. and the only loss is 26ac, if your not the one taking most of the lumps in a fight this is nothing but benefits. A primary tank may prefer to have chloroplast and call of earth on instead for the extra ac, but a damage dealer who fears getting aggro while wants to optimize attack will undoubtably have this as the preference.

Don't forget this is an instant cast item, such as ring 8 and 9. Which has it's great uses for certain times. The stats are enough to make this ring kick ass, the effect is just icing n the cake.

It doesn't stack with shaman ds potion, making it useless for the really big mobs. Still nice for smaller mobs where you don't want to waste a potion.

well yes, i suppose if you're a class that never solos, always carries shammy potions around, doesn't recognize the value of an 100hp ring, and constantly has someone there to buff them with chloro/regrowth or better, then i guess it's not that good. then it's only a 10ac 100+hp ring, right?

but there are many, many, many, many, many times where the typical player will not only find this immensely useful, but also lifesaving. they will love this item.

oh, and it may not stack with call of earth, but it sure as hell stacks with warder's protection =D!

Well, to add a late reply to another late reply, show me a player who doesn't even have the luxury of potions and buffing and needs to solo and I'll show you someone who can't muster a force big enough to ever see this ring.
