Brass Instrument Modifiers for a few horns.

Standard Horn 2.0
Singing Short Sword 2.0
Conch Shell Horn 2.1
Verlekarnorm's Horn of Disaster 2.2
McVaxius Horn of War 2.3
Immaculate Shell Horn 2.5

This horn would be nice for playing DS against some heavy AE or rampage mobs and also in an AE group. And yes DS is quite valuable on large raids if you are in main tank group. Brass is also nice for the level 60 assonance dot/slow. It last for 10 ticks so pull out the horn to land it then switch back to weapons. Also pull out brass for mana drain, it makes a large difference.

I would have to agree with you about the DS part. On a high ac mob a DS can and WILL do more damage than ANY melee in the raid. I have heard of DS'es being as high as 173 but am not 100% sure of that. It would be interesting if someone could post what high level DS'es stack. I know a DS potion will do 26 and then how much are the other DS'es that stack? Thanks for any info.

Not... that... great...

This was discovered a decent while ago, and the bards of the Concert Hall have already discussed it. Most bards have already declared this 'A Piece of Junk', as it's a brass instrument. Really now... there's only one brass song we use, and we only use it on raids once in a long while (That would be our Rondo damage shield song :).

Most bards would rather just use their epic than a worthless brass instrument. Most bards don't even carry a brass instrument anymore. Sure 50 AC and 25 Stamina looks nice, but when are we supposed to use this? In experience groups, if we put this on, there goes a good 60-70% of our damage, since one of our weapon slots and our main-hand bonus is being thrown out the window for a 50 AC shield. With the main hand gone, it'd be difficult enough to get enough agro to tank.

We could use this on a raid, but it would only be used for the +25 Stamina effect. Our Epic would be in the off-hand, and would over-ride the horn (I believe this is a current bug). You could say we would use it for the 50 AC as well, but on a raid if we get agroed, we're dead anyway.

Lastly, the effect... if I remember correctly, when this was introduced it had a 30 second casting time. No bard would touch it with a ten-foot pole. The data seems to say that this requires the Evocation skill to use, which bards do not currently possess.

Bottom line is this horn really isn't what it looks like. I'm not saying it's a piece of complete garbage, but I wouldn't carry it around except to show off as a status symbol. Hopefully there will be more Brass songs useful to the end-game implemented with Luclin. I and other bards have our fingers crossed :)

THINK! THINK! ok.... there are lots of DSes that take brass instruments.... and JUST the bard melee.... that is nowhere near 60-70% of the dmg... the dmg bards do in grps is by using hastes DSes... stuff like that.... so.. with this horn... we can do much more....

ONLY ONE BRASS SONG TO USE?!?!? wow thats just not true... ok granted there not a huge selection to brass, but this intruments GREAT for that line up. Its a primary, meaning that unlike most others u can hold a weapon in your other hand. Now line up fear song (brass) slow song, dissonace (brass at 19th level i believe) and the haste song u get at 42 level. it adds strength as well and is ALSO brass. Now with exception of the slow song which is singing you got 3 others to twist in a row all being boosted BIG time with this instrument. Dont need ac, or resists or heal. THIS is the fear kiting dream line up. All brass all hurt.
I have the troubadours mace, which is the same power of epic for brass instruments.. in my opinion the power lost in the songs is worth the power of a second weapon in this case, cuz your only losing a slight amount in trade off, with the mace still being a brass.

With this line up you can fear kite to hell with out any damage at all. This isnt a garbage instrument, just needs to be used in the right way, that way being fear kiting. I think thats why its primary in the first place. The best part is if the fear leaves due to lag in twisting, you got extra ac and hp! and 50 ac? wow thats wicked.

Well if theres a BETTER way to use it post away, but this is lined up pretty well and has taken me solo up 8 levels.

#REDACTED, Posted: Oct 23 2001 at 6:21 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) Oh, and bard DS on a raid? lol... On a raid, bards are haste and resists, and lag permitting, one other song if they can squeeze it in. I can about assure you that a damage shield isn't going to be that last song.

alright this message is old...but not that old..bards that just sing haste and resists on a raid are the same bards that sit down in groups and play mana song, then go afk for 4 hours.

on raids chanters cover the haste, i only throw it in when saves arent needed for the stats. for me, its saves or haste, march of the wee (or whatever i feel like throwing in, but i prefer DA's or DS's), mana song, amplification, melody of preservation.

every bard has their own style, so noones wrong, but 2 songs? id kick myself if i only weaved 2 songs. i hope your another class and this is all you notice them singing, that would make sense. If not, start practicing in laggy areas..

I wonder if there's some kind of conspiracy here to spread fake/stupid information to keep people from getting ideas or if it's just some genuiune stupidity. In any way it's quite entertaining!

Keep up the good work The One and Only UnkemptDruid.

I don't know what Verant has planned for Luclin, but maybe they'll bring in a couple of high-level brass songs that will make this item more attractive.

I got the rating on my previous post automatically after I posted... I think if you use the words "monk" and "item" in conjunction with each other in any way it lowers your score. Heh, that's pretty funny. Anyways, I'm not a bard, but I think it'd be pretty tough to choose over this for brass songs or the epic. First the fact that this is Primary instead of Secondary, the fact that it gives more Stamina and AC, good stats to up for a bard, hell, for anyone, and then it also probably matches the epic or maybe betters it for brass. We need to get the guy in Vis Major who got the thing to come tell us how good the instrument bonus is. Outta here, /laugh

We tested this on August 18, 2001. Percentage added to BardSong is actually slightly LESS the McVaxius' Horn of War (15% BardSong Modifier). So rejoice! Yet another piece of equipment for us bards to have to flip around for maximum effectiveness. That's ok...4 instruments + 2 weapons was getting a little too easy, anyway. ;D

Well, I don't think there's anything to say except... bummer. Ah well, I'm sure they'll upgrade it soon, if it's as weak as most people are ranting it is. At least, we can hope they'll upgrade it. =D

Nothing gets mezed in ToV, nothing...so why care about aoe? Of course what wont get your group killed in ToV will get the bard macked but good. For those who are slow on jargon; macked=dead

But aoe is fun in Fear! Why else would I have a sword of skyfire hehe and I picked it up super cheap. People usually fear things they don't understand. I love the agro from aoe. But thats just in my nature.
Nice horn

Wow - what a nice instrument. The STA helps out with hp, and you can really maximize your effectiveness by playing haste songs for your melee types - and you'd get the instrument bonus. On top of that, you slap a mob for an additional 150hp and interrupt any casting with the stun. This is indeed an uber bard item. Actually, this is probably the most effective instrument in the game (not counting the instrument capabilities of the epic).
Kinda sux that the effect is AoE though - AoE's get good groups killed, because they wake mezzed mobs, and you might draw some mobs from a level above or below.

Singing Steel BP - 60k
59 levels worth of powerleveling - 100k
Getting your entire guild killed with the AoE from your dandy new horn - priceless
Any Bards notice?
# Oct 22 2001 at 9:00 PM Rating: Default
Anyone notice that the instrument is used in your primary slot? Bard instruments at least from my experience are all used in your secondary weapon slot, this one is listed as being used in your primary.

Is This allowing bard to duel wield instruments? If so it will make it much easier to juggle songs when in instrument mode. I Personally find this horn pretty damn awesome <G>

Actually, there are two other instruments that are primary hand only, lute of the howler, and drums of the beast. While you cannot use two instruments, you CAN use the instrument and an offhand weapon.

Hehe, the post has gotten one response a year, figured I'd add to it. LDoN added a slew of new PRIMARY instruments, as did tier 2+ pop. Battle Drummer's Main-Gauche, etc
Nice

That's a nice instrument, the triggered effect isn't godlike, but it IS area effect, and 150 damage with a 1 second stun. Never go down on a free effect, they're all worth it if you ask me. Also, would anyone happen to know the instrument bonus on this? I heard somewhere about Verant bringing in new instruments that beat out the epic in their certain fields, and had the same song increasing effects, it would be cool if this was one of these new items. Normal AoE spells affect only the mobs (including nearby npc's), not the caster or party. Rain spells affect everyone who is within the area of effect, but this does not appear to be a rain type spell.
