I picked one up yesterday on Morden Rasp for 8pp. I Equipt and right clicked it and it cast haste for my lvl 10 Beastlord. It doesn't say anything about charges. I will give it a trial run in Kern's Tower and see what happens.

There is a haste cap. I think until level 30 it is 10%.

Not yet tested, But couldn't you just have your main weapons equipted, have the spear in one of your 8 inventory slots, and just right click it from within your inventory like it was a potion?

I'm pretty sure that'd work. But still only 3 ticks it lasts. =(

I cant believe no one mentioned that the haste only lasts 3 ticks. Yes it is spell haste so it stacks with Permanent haste items lick SCHW's, but at 3 tiucks can you realy get it to cast and your normal weapon traided out so you can enjoy it? I bought one in the bazaar, and was trying to trade out my Massive dragonclaw shard, but that takes up about 3-6 seconds of the 18. Would be nice if this lasted about 10 - 20 ticks, then it might be worth the fight, or is this the crap reward for this encounter?

Recharge
# Jul 28 2002 at 4:43 PM Rating: Decent
I heard that gnomes who have tinkering can recharge items like this that have a certain number of charges. Has anyone else heard this?

Gnomes can recharge some (not all; generally this applies to Velious or later recipes) TINKERED items that have a certain number of charges of something by replacing the mana battery (simply combine the depleted item with whatever class mana battery it originally had in a toolbox, similar to the way you restrin bows in fletching kits). This recharging only applies to tinkered items; dropped items can't be recharged this way. Some dropped items can be recharged by repeatable quests; some simply can't ever be recharged, once they're out of charges, that's it.

rechargable?
# Apr 06 2002 at 11:55 AM Rating: Decent
now.. i use up all 10 charges... i give to Bob... does he have 10 Charges? or does it stay spent? if he uses the 10 charges (assuming he gets any... can he then give it back to me and i get more charges...)
or... if i get 2 of these will i have 20 charges? how does this charges thing work?
RE: rechargable?
# Apr 29 2002 at 1:19 AM Rating: Decent
After all the charges are used up, then you have a so-so 6/22 poking-stick. One way i've heard(not confirmed tho) to recharge an item is to sell it to a merchant, then buy it back. of course if you sold this to a merchant, you'd probably get 3 maybe 4 plat for it, and then when you go to buy it back you'd probably en up shelling out Kpp upon Kpp to get it back. Who knows?

a nice feature on this though is that it's not lore. so you can have i dunno....82? at a time on your greedy little person. (that's assuming that you've got 8 10-slot bags, and one in primary and one in secondary)

That'd be nice to have, and is a very pleasant dream.
The Real deal
# Jan 27 2002 at 7:18 PM Rating: Default
Ok, here's the real deal on haste items i.e FRSS, FBSS, SCH etc...
1) It DOES stack with ONE other haste SONG and ONE other haste SPELL but i does NOT stack with another item(2 haste songs dont stack, 2 haste items dont stack, 2 haste spells dont stack)
2)it does NOT increase your delay, it increases the number of times you hit for example, a 20 percent haste item increases the number of times you hit the MoB by 20 percent
3)I Practically Live in Gfay and i know prices, SCH are around 5-6k (on Xev) FBSS for around 3-5k (on Xev)
4)It is NOT a proc or triggeredm it is permanint, meaning, you DO NOT right-click and you DO NOT fight to make it work, you equip the item with haste on it and the haste is automatically incorperated with your fighting (refer to number 2)
5) The Effect does NOT show up where your normal buffs show up, it just doesn't, if you are wearing it, then we asume you are smart enough to figure out that it is automatuically on (refer to number 4)
6)Becuase you are wearing it, you may not be able to tell the difference because (hopefully unless insane) you dont count strokes on which you strike your oponent but there IS a BIG difference

I Hope The REAL DEAL has helped you guys out, i hope this will clear up any misunderstood things and rumors or myths

Is it just me or does it sound as if this guy has never seen this item and is assuming its like fbss with perm haste. And as to point number whatever it was - OF COURSE it doesnt INCREASE your delay. And if you mean to say it doesnt decrease your delay - your wrong it does.

Technically, it does NOT decrease delay. If it did, you would lose damage bonus on 2handed weapons when you were hasted.... The "delay" of the weapon remains the same, therefore no damage bonus adjustments etc are required. It would also negate any +damage augments you get from LDoN in many cases... So, even though you do swing the weapon faster, Haste has no effect on the delay of the weapon. Delay is a set stat just like every other stat on the weapon. This seems to be the source of many arguments, but nobody ever bothers to explain it.

Items like Fbss (Flowing black silk sash) and Schr (Silver chittin hand wraps) are worn haste, which means when you wear them, you gain a continual increased attack speed, until you remove the item again. This spear has charges! Which means, everytime you want the haste to activate, you have to right click on the item. The affect will then wear off after a certain amount of time. The haste cannot be used when the item is out of charges, but it can be recharged. I am not sure how though.

If it is not a proc or triggerd item, why is there a number of charges listed for this item?

On most items Haste or whatever incarnation thereof are effects. this is actually a spell-charged item. So refer to number 1 or 2 aobut two spells not stacking

sorry but i have to post on this being a bard. Bards DO have a song that WILL stack with another haste song or haste spell on you. example, you have a FBSS, and Swift like the Wind (chanter haste i belive), the bard song WILL stack with both of these.

That's not what he said - he said two SONGS don't stack. Your example lists an ITEM, a SPELL and a SONG...three different haste effects.

The first point in his post was saying that YES, a haste item will stack with a spell AND a song...but you can't stack multiple haste effects from the same root source i.e: item, spell, song.

'Course there's always exceptions but they normally work to prove a rule rather than disprove it.
Nice spear
# Nov 21 2001 at 11:39 AM Rating: Decent
My 14th lvl Rogue uses this spear in his primary slot. I don't know why anyone would say a 6/22 weapon is crappy.

The 10 haste charges really help in uneven battles. The spear can't be recharged. But, the stats make it a viable weapon for any rogue under 20th.

Haste

It always had 10 charges of haste, the above picture is what happens when all charges are used.

# Mar 04 2002 at 6:09 PM Rating: Decent
The person obviously Erased it somehow probably trying to ethier fool people or make it so people gave it an unfair price when he was trying to sell and told them to go check Allakhazam and the person looked to fast at the item to notice it had charges (when i first got the item i did the exact same ting lol )
Primary only too
# May 22 2001 at 1:32 PM Rating: Default
This item is now primary hand only.
It's ain't UBER, but...
# Mar 06 2001 at 5:03 PM Rating: Default
It has the same Damage/Delay ratio as a Walrus Tooth. I'd slap this in my offhand and SBC or SBD in my Primary hand. It'd look cool as hell though if you had a harpoon in your main hand and this in the off hand.

What sucks, is this item in the game now has 10 charges of haste..not perm..which i assume the above had..probably happened after jboots stopped dropping there.
