Unfortunatly this blade looks almost exactly like the icon in the corner of the Item box...

Now although you may think it looks pretty cool, which it definatly cool, it is quite small.

When you look around GoD zones and see all the monsters with their huge, similarly styled axes you would hope that SOE would be kind enough to give you such a blade... but alas, it looks pretty small and puny.

It is still a unique graphic, and its a nice blade... But along with almost all the new GoD graphics, this is lame looking compaired to what it could and should look like.

I see all these posts about "not ideal for tank" or this is only good for raid situations because of the hate reduction on the weapon..

Well, let's take a looksy at this weapons. Now, I play many different class's.. 65 Enchanter, 65 Pally, 65 Cleric...

Now how many of you Pal/SK out there solely rely on a weapon proc for the production of hate? Yeah, that would be a big fat ZERO.. Pal/SK's can generate more hate from casting 1 spell, then this thing could reduce if it were to proc x5 in a row.

Not to mention what everyone else is already saying, that there is a "stun" component on here which will generate some form of hate.

For Zerkers, I really can't tell you.. Never played one.. So I don't know how "ideal" this would be.

Before you post things, take a nother look at what you are posting on. Again.. The main factor here, is that no Pal/Sk uses a weapon as a sole form of hate generation. Our spells do a wonderful job of it. If this were "War" usable, then that's different.... But as you can plainly see, it's not.

Bah... I can hold agro with attack off just chain casting stuns. Even if the mob is imune to stun it still gets agro in almost every case. Great weapon unless you have better.

Ideal
n.
A conception of something in its absolute perfection.

He is absolutely correct... this is quite not ideal for tanks for multiple reasons. This sounds stuck up, and I'd definatly get my hands on this weapon if it dropped, yet there are much better Swords/Combos for Tanking. There are, in fact, better tanking swords/combos that drop from pre-elemental, or in intermediate Luclin zones.

When tanking there is one absolute rule... get as many HPs as you can without severly sacraficing other necessary tanking Stats (AC/AGI.)

You can buy a better tanking Combo with more than 105 hp, 10 sta, 30 AC and 0 agi relatively inexpensively.

Getting into combos from Pre-elemental, there is a BoT shield with 50 AC and 100HP, already surpassing the stats for this as a tanking sword. There are, then, many nice 1handers for Pal/SK to complete a 200hp 50ac combo pre-elemental.

If you want to get into Time/GoD, we're talking about 450HP 110AC and 50AGI from a Combo, with Furious Bash 7 (absolutely insane agro even on a miss) on the shield.

You can also put this up against the Diamond-Tipped War Javelin or Shimmering Jade Axe of Vengeance for 2handers and it fails miserably...

The -200 Hate is meaningless here, yet it doesn't help out in the tanking factor, because although it doesn't hurt I garentee it doesn't help either.

The fact that he said it wasn't Ideal for Tanking is correct... yet for how not-difficult it is to get, I'd have to say its quite nice indeed.

Why wouldn't it be ideal for a tank? A delay of 37 is good for avoiding ripostes while still maintaining decent attack speed. 47 is great damage; it give a better overall efficiency than, say, a Windblade (a fairly common weapon and probably the best droppable tanking weapon for a paladin or SK). It has 30AC, which is like carrying a shield. It has great stats and HP, and decent saves to boot. The proc is a nice aggro bonus; although Ethereal Strike is less aggro than a normal stun, it's still a healthy bit of aggro for the tank. I'd say it's pretty decent overall.

My main concern would be the difficulty in getting it. If it drops from mobs or events that require the players to be in Time gear already, then yes, the weapon is crap. If it can be reasonably obtained by folks in high-end bazaar gear or low to mid range no-drop gear, then it's a great choice.

This wouldn't be ideal for a tank because the effect procs a -200 hate, which lessens agro. It's great on raids and other situations where you are not the MT.
RE: good or not
# Apr 07 2004 at 3:00 PM Rating: Decent
just because it has -200 hate, doesn't mean it doesn't cause hate, or even reduces hate as you seem to think. Do you not see that it also STUNS and does 75dmg to the mob? I can guarantee you that the stun alone causes more hate than 200. The reason why they gave this -200 hate, is so that the proc doesn't cause so much hate as to become unusable (such as during raids), or overpowering (it might even cause more hate than the Blade of War).

It decreases the same amount of aggro that it adds from the stun+dmg so it doesn't hurt you while tanking and yet you don't need to worry about grabbing aggro if you are not. It's a nice weapon for any situation.

I addressed this in another post below. The Stun component of the effect does far more than 200 hate worth of aggro. The -200 hate just reduces the amount, but it's still a goodly bit of hate.

In addition, if the proc is resisted, then you still have a huge amount of hate generated by the Stun attempt -- and the hate reduction part never takes effect. Just ask any paladin who pulls in BoT using Cease. That level 9 stun spell is almost always resisted, but it builds huge aggro anyway. A resisted stun adds at least as much hate as an unresisted one, if not more.

In short, the proc helps you hold aggro when tanking too.

Stuns generally in themselves generate 250 hate. Add the dmg into that, and you see what everyone else is saying - this is still good to tank with.

To clarify for Vorrhees (below). Even if the stun effect is resisted, or a mob is immune to the stun effect, the person casting the stun (or proc'ing, in this case) gets the same aggro as if the stun had landed. The aggression modifier of a spell is applied before a resist check is done, any Paladin or SK could tell you that.

Where are you getting the idea that this is a hate reducer weapon? Nothing on the items stat window says anything about hate reducing. It is a dd/stun proc. Stun and procs CAUSE hate, and steal agro very well.

You have to realize, though, that aggro from the Stun component (line 2) is FAR more than 200 hate -- I'd guesstimate it at 600-800 hate, based on normal stuns that paladins cast. The 200 hate reduction is there so the weapon doesn't cause as much aggro as a cast stun, but the proc most certainly does increase your hate overall.

#REDACTED, Posted: Feb 13 2004 at 7:02 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) Do anyone you play a SK/Pally....this weapon is VERY nice. yeah it would be nice for a raid (If the MA isnt equipt with Agro procing weapons) But this weapon is also nice for groups. Beacuse an Sk/Pally sometimes fight a war in the group for agro (not that they want it) but it happens at times. not like a sk/Pally can hold there own on tanking though...As far as this for a Berserker Best weapon proc for them imo...from what Ive seen (dont play a Berserk) they get broken leg strike (melee snare) and a head strike (stun) when they pull they gonna need that agro off,for MT and they dont get fd to clear it.
#REDACTED, Posted: Feb 12 2004 at 2:13 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) ok so pallys are tanks and sk is a tank and berserkr is a light tank why the hell they get a negative hate wepon ??? what a nice thing for VI to do

Are you kidding, this is awesome. In a raid situation, all the support tanks want high damage, low hate weapons, so they don't steal aggro from the MT. This is perfect.
RE: sux
# Feb 12 2004 at 6:33 PM Rating: Decent
Aye, everyone is so quick to blast that they don't often see the uses in most things. don't get me wrong, there are plenty of *****-ups. But if you look closely, MOST things have value, no matter how limited.
RE: sux
# Feb 13 2004 at 3:48 AM Rating: Default
I've also heard that since the ethereal strike is partly a dd/stun, the hate reducer on it basically nullify's any aggro caused by the proc in the first place. So basically no aggro is gained or reduced.
