so uhm...
# Sep 22 2001 at 3:02 PM Rating: Decent
its 5 more dmg then a wurmslayer *shrug*...

As to the guy commenting about clerics and such should just sit and med (cough, whats that? get back in the kitchen? :p ), well guess what... this isnt a very good high lvl wep really, slow as all get out for a 1h wep for the level you could attain it at... all it will really be for is fun, and thus, fug it, i would say just hand it off to a shammy cleric or druid or something... they can go have their fun also heh.

Love,
Me

Plus* you're looking at this from your class's perspective only (warrior?) Think about a monk. This is an awesome weapon for a monk who doesn't use (most) 1hs weapons, and has to worry about weight. Remember, not all weapons were made with warriors in mind, even if warriors can use it.

*adding to what thunderforge said.

this is most definatly better than a wurm slayer.
the pro's:Blam is not only 5 more damage-but it has a delay/damage difference of only 10-which is better than almost any 1hs sword you will find.
add in a weight of 0.0 and its that much better.
the con's:the wurm does have some stats like ac and str;but on the other hand i will not deplete your stamina even a fraction of what the wurmslayer can do.
anyway all that aside-1 out of every 20 people who read this have access to PoM and laugh at your wurmslayer......so BLAM!

Bards just wanna go BLAM!
# Sep 21 2001 at 10:57 AM Rating: Decent
Umm Grinch...Just wondering why bards should concentrate on 1hs? I've raised ALL of my 1h weapon skills to max to allow myself to use any weapon that is available for a bard to use(which happens to be fairly limited for a "melee" class).
Why limit yourself?

According to the search I just performed, this beauty just became the bards highest damage 1hb weapon. <Drools> And if this does happen to have a decent proc and a way to be upgraded and still bard friendly? <more drool> Looks like I need a trip to go visit my god...and to bring along a few friends.

Bards
# Sep 20 2001 at 8:30 PM Rating: Default
This would not be too bad for a bard, if you could get a low enought lvl bard in to loot it. Not likely. Plus, any bard of this lvl should have his epic or something dang near close to it, plus it isn't that great since bards might want to concentrate on 1hs skill. Still, if you can get ahold of one through some very powerful and very kind friends, its not too bad for just whapping around with.
RE: Bards
# Sep 21 2001 at 9:10 PM Rating: Default
um, it's no drop and planar, how are you going to get a low level to loot it or get friends to get you one?
RE: Bards
# Sep 21 2001 at 10:09 PM Rating: Default
My ranger in a second stopped using 1h slash (dual wielding of course), and concentrated on 2hs, 2hb, and 1hb, considering I saw all of these great weapons, silver swiftblade, stormwood battle staff, culler (that was later), woodsman staff (I still want one), ringed mace of the ykesha, and others. My piercing was up, as I had a dragon horn ykesha after someone said they didn't want to spend the time upping the skill for 1 delay less, considering that it still costs 1k more than a reg ykesha, which is fun. Try out every skill, you never know when an awesome weapon will pop up saying "BASH WITH ME!"
cleric? yeah
# Sep 20 2001 at 5:39 PM Rating: Decent
Cleric is probably just as likely as anyone else to get this. At the level you would be in PoM this isn't a good weapon for any melee class, so might as well let a cleric druid or shaman have some fun with it.
Cleric?
# Sep 20 2001 at 3:59 PM Rating: Default
That's kinda goofy. Clerics 1HB skill is 4*(level + 1) while melee classes skill is 5 * (level +1). (Skill formulas changes after level 50 because they had to make skills for level 50 to 60 all be below 256 to fit in it's data field of 1 byte :). But by the time you are old enough to use this, your melee skills will pale in comparison (you'll hit about like a level 44 at level 55 - if that). Also, I there might be a cap on weapon skills for clerics before you even get that high!

Then you take into account the fact that you don't have double attack (or tripple attacks), dodge, parry, riposte, block, etc. and you have to ask yourself why you are wasting your time attempting to melee when you should be sitting down medding and using your nukes if you *really really* have to do damage.

This statment goes out to pretty much every post about non-melee classes envying over uber melee weapons that have no other advantage for the caster.
Wowsers
# Sep 20 2001 at 3:48 PM Rating: Decent
Ok, basically it is a large staff that a warrior or monk can dual wield. It does 2-hander damage, it's slow, but it is a weapon a warrior can use with a shield and finally get some added AC while still doing decent damage with a one hander. Very useful for dragon hunting where you need AC more than maximum damage output.

Note that it seems to be an ultra rare drop off the PoM halflings, usually they drop a Broken Blam Stick - same stats, usable by NONE.

Clerics!
# Sep 20 2001 at 2:30 PM Rating: Default
Man any cleric would be sweet with one of these, they should get to loot it so they can do almost decent damage
Finally a good weapon for clerics!!!

Effect
# Sep 20 2001 at 9:21 AM Rating: Good
According to the people that have it (on the plane of mischief ezboard) the blank effect doesn't seem to do anything, BUT it makes a fire bolt effect, without damage.
RE: Effect
# Sep 20 2001 at 12:28 PM Rating: Default
So this has a "bolt" proc animation? That would be kind-of impressive if you were not 3 feet away from your target whenever it went off 8p
I did it too!
# Sep 20 2001 at 8:18 AM Rating: Decent
LOL I must admit that I also did not notice the primary only and was gonna comment on what a great offhand item this would be. Particularly for a monk who I believe has a higher 1HB cap than other meeles. Now I ponder why this would be usefull...

Question: Verant added a 40DEL damage bonus on 2 Handed weapons or was it all 40+ del weapons? If you consider this would be about the same thing as a baton of faith or almost as good as a brawl stick and you still have another hand open for other stuff, its not bad.

The bonus damage for high delay is only for 2handers.. and even offhand this weapon would have a hard time competing with other 1hb.
The ratio is great, but its really slow, you'd have a long wait between hits and misses, that means a longer wait before you might get a shot at succeeding a dual wield and double attack.
*shrug*

If i had it, i wouldnt be able to resist shouting at the beginning of each battle: "THIS IS MY BOOM STICK!"

By the time an SK is able to get into the Plane of Mischief it goes without saying that they will have a Mace of the Shadowed Soul (19dmg, 29dly) or Ebon Mace (19dmg, 24dly) for maintaining 1hb skill. Thus this weapon would be a waste of time for us. I think most paladins would have a holy water sprinkler or better by this time as well.
#Anonymous, Posted: Sep 20 2001 at 6:12 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) ...because this thing and it's 40 delay scream to sit in the hands of a good bard where it can get it's daily dose of haste. The taunt on this thing has to be pretty low with a 40 delay so I wouldn't say pally or sk weapon or warrior for that matter but it may turn some ranger into a little less of a hate magnet and if it could go offhand I'd say rogue. Priest classes I'd say pass unless you can convince your PoM raiding buddies that you really still do rely on your melee damage. But for monk no because there are too many better monk weapons out there and warriors can't afford the low tauntability that comes with this thing's delay.

offhand Ratio
# Sep 19 2001 at 10:32 PM Rating: Decent
Actually you guys need to look at the logs on Safehouse about offhand weapons. Take a weapon that is high damage but still has a decent ratio for example the jade axe 17/34 and fight high lvl mob solo then switch to a fast weapon say the frostbringer 12/22 and fight the same mob even if you facter out the proc of the frostbringer you will have a WAY larger total damage output over the same amount of time. why you say? yes you dont hit as hard but you hit more often. offhand delay does play a facter in the "end game" or fighting extreamly large mobs, Tov, Sleepers and so on where speed of killing is esential to being sucsesful.

Of course, a 12/22 will outdamage a 17/34 in the offhand...because 12/22 is a better ratio. That is the only thing that matters in the offhand. If you compare a 10/20 and a 13/26 in the offhand they will do the same amount of damage. The advantage to faster weapons of the same ratio is in the damage bonus that is applied to the main hand only.
#REDACTED, Posted: Sep 19 2001 at 10:20 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) This weapon is best in off-hand. Main hand you worry about dly. Off-hand is all about that ration and being a 3/4 ratio that is great for a off-hand weapon.
RE: Off-Hand weapon
# Sep 20 2001 at 8:02 AM Rating: Decent
I might be mistaken but this does say PRIMARY only, and that means you can't put it in secondary.

Paladins and SKs
# Sep 19 2001 at 6:34 PM Rating: Default
True warriors wont want this (most of the time) there will be exceptions, but most warriors will have 12/20 or better weapons by the time they get to PoM. Paladins and Sks can use this though, which is the real big deal about it. Since there like the only non DW tanks and dont have to worry about haveing a faster primary. Throw this on a paly/SK with a sarnak battle shield and its like haveing a 2hs with 25 ac and good stats, except for 2hrs have a little better dmg adjustor.

Post level 51 (I believe) the stuff you're talking about, Ummanden, is invalid. Both hands function independently. (200+ dual wield skill, actually is it, I think, and both function independently.)
Dual wield - hands operate independently, ALWAYS
# Sep 20 2001 at 4:23 AM Rating: Decent
This is so even from level 1 upwards (for monks).

To demonstrate, grab a 40ish BARD (to remove the effect of Double Attack) with maxed dual wield. Equip him with some Bladed Thulian Claws (19 delay) and a FS dagger (19 delay). Set him to slice up some high-HP mob (while healing him...). See how many times he tries to pierce in 1 minute. The probability of an attack with the offhand weapon EACH TIME THAT WEAPON BEcOMES READY is (dual wield skill + level)/400 - about 63% in this case. This means that in 1 minute, he should try to pierce about 20 times. (63% x 60 seconds / 1.9 seconds).

Repeat this after equipping a slow weapon - like a Crystalline Blade in the main hand (delay 38 - double that of the BTC). If the Crystalline Blade's delay affected the dagger, he would only try to pierce about 9 or 10 times. This doesn't happen...

Given that, I have no doubt that some monks and other weight/stamina limited classess/races would dearly love this weapon... it would be pretty nice to switch to this when fighting something with a Damage Shield, also when your Stamina gets low and there's no-one available to refill it; with the zero weight and slow delay, you won't be adding to your problems by continuing to swing away with this.

RE: hrmm

I have to agree about the suspicious nature of this item, but only because there's an Effect slot with no effect listed. Not sure if that happens on occasion, but most items I have seen with no effects, have no slot for an effect, and those which have one, list it. Could be a VI typo, could be the fake item maker's typo. Dunno.
RE: hrmm
# Sep 20 2001 at 12:09 AM Rating: Default
Well, the lack of inclusion of an effect name suggests to me that this is simply a programming oversight. However, let me cite one example of an intentionally left out effect...

The Grimy Lance, a drop off of a Lizardman Ritualist in Cazic Thule, has an effect slot listed but no effect in place. However, when you complete a quest using this item in Stonebrunt Mountains, the lance is in a way 'upgraded', including having an effect added to it. Using identify on the lance yields a message that I believe reads 'You sense hidden power...' So, you could assume that there is a quest intended for this item. I wouldn't assume that tho - probably just a programming error or intentionally done to mess with people who go to PoM.

= )

But...
# Sep 19 2001 at 5:32 PM Rating: Default
With a delay this high it will be hard to match it up with another weap in offhand. As all us educated people know, the closer the delay the better, always have slowest weap in first hand, and Idealy = delay is the best for outputting most dmg.
RE: But...
# Sep 19 2001 at 5:56 PM Rating: Default
Actually, you want the best ratio / slow in your offhand, and fastest weapon in the mainhand. That's why you see warriors with Jade Maces in their mainhand outdamaging warriors with Wurmslayers in their main hand, despite the wurmslayer's superior ratio.

This is a nice weapon, but by the time you're able to get to the Plane of Mischeif there are many different and better options of what weapons you are able to use.
RE: But...
# Sep 20 2001 at 10:11 AM Rating: Default
Wrong, big damage is better in main hand and people with jade maces dont outdamage people with wurmies ussually unless the mob is many many levels above the warriors.

Also, the higher the delay the bigger the haste bonus to yer attack so you actually get more delay dragged off when the delay of the weapon is higher. It doesnt make it lower but with a RBB of CoF the wurmie is a mean fightin stick.
RE: But...
# Sep 20 2001 at 7:22 PM Rating: Default
spoken like someone who was suckered into thinkin the wurm is "all that". i'm sure yer twink(s) have one.

BTW, why u think no warrior 55+ is caught dead with wurm if he can avoid it. a 51 warrior with wurm (and lammy)couldnt out-taunt my 43 SK in icewell (got me killed) and my SK merely had 17/27 spear (w/ shield) and not taunting nor casting, just pokin and bashing. i wasnt outdamaging him but wurm taunt sux major dong due to the heavy dly. (this was also pre-patch to the taunt nerf so would be even worse now)

bear in mind, a warrior is not a monk and vice-versa but i honestly think lammies and jade maces not only have better taunt but ,over time, do better dmg at higher lvls.
RE: But...
# Sep 20 2001 at 1:07 AM Rating: Default
Wurmslayer is 25/50 and jade mace is 9/18, I believe. Exact same ratio. A better example would be a warrior with a Lammy in their primary hand (9/19) outdamaging a warrior with identical buffs and str, ect, using a wurmslayer primary hand (25/50). You get a damage bonus per hit with your primary weapon and it gets very high at the upper levels so the lower the delay, the more you attack and the more times that damage bonus is applied. That is why the mosscovered twig stopped dropping and was super nerfed. It was primary secondary 3/10. Pretty crappy ratio, right? Well, with the damage bonuses at 50+, it starts doing an AMASING ammount of damage when used in your primary slot. The nerf was now it is secondary only. This means no primary damage bonuses and because of the low ratio.... it's complete suckage. The insanly low delay no longer means anything.
RE: But...
