Just wanted to agree that this a GREAT sword! I been using one since 23 with a Whip of Strangulation in offhand and I am, without doubt, the King Of Proc! 8) The Wakizashi goes off 2 or 3 times p/fight and as someone else said, even if it is resisted, it is usually only a partial resist. This is definitely the sword you should get until you are high enough for Yak to proc - awesome!
ok, this sword is going to be hell for every class EXCEPT range and druid. for these two classes, its simple what to do. Ranger, fear-kite it, druid, fear-kite it if nothing is close, if so, normal kite it threw gaps in enemies. if you get adds, fear it. for everyone else, don't even try it, you will die, and die ALOT.
i purchased a pair of these for my friend's spoiled warrior to replace his crap issued swords. they don't do as much damage from just regular swinging, but they're fast as all hell. if every swing has a chance to proc, and you're swinging two of these things at 22 delay, you're going to get a amazing amount of procs.
Delay = 22 means you're swinging faster (there's only 4 1hs procing weapons with a lower delay than this sword).
The proc itself starts LOW (lvl 20) and is ICE based... that means less resists in a lot of situations. The resists that DO happen are mainly PARTIAL resists (means that at least SOME damage is going to get through).
Even if you have a pair of Yaks, you will find these guys are still useful after lvl 37 (when Yak proc kicks in)
Yes, they will get resisted in Velious, but by the time you can hunt there you will be procing (or close to) with a Yak... so don't take them to Velious, save them for Sol B (Nagafens Lair)
I have been killing pandas for about 5 hrs now and only gotten 1. I was with a ranger, and first one we killed dropped them, but I have killed countless more by myself and with a paladin guildie, and havent gotten anymore. I know they are rare, but do they drop off certain pandas more then others? But what made my day was, me and my friend were only 2 in zone and i saw snowbeast on track, dropped 2 of the footpads of the tiger, I almost fell out of my chair 8) Ginadyen, 43rd summer--Crimson Horde Elders Bertox
Right now I'm lvl 19(for the second time...) and would love to have one(or two) of these swords. What level do I have to be to do the quest? I don't have near the amount of money it takes to buy them.
Seems I've found Pandas mostly in Top north west and bottom south east part of zone mostly. yes they walk around the middle but I hate running about being a Mage with a pet and all. Got three claws to drop with Wiz friend in about an hour. After that didn't see another for the rest of the night...good four hours of hunting them. Completed quest once and gave sword to lvl 26 Guildie of mine. He actually has proced the thing three times in a row multiple times and is just a Warrior. Stickign around to get one last Claw so my Rogue can destroy LoIO with one of these and his Bloodclaw ;)
I just saved up and bought one of these babies for my lvl 13 bard and the weapon still says I don't have the will to use the proc. I will post as soon as it does proc with this character.
Ok I have personally completed this quest 3 times Yes I am dueling this bad boys and got one to sell. I am just lucky I guess took me 3 weeks but I looted 5 claws and had to buy the last one. I am a witness to the fact that the claws will drop off of any panda in the zone. From cub all the way to Elder. It matters not just that they are rare no matter the panda. Also the asp posion sacs are not obtainable in this zone. I got mine from Cristen Asps in South Ro. The skins are common drop off any tiger in zone and the bambo and fruit are foraged and usually for sale if you can get them yourself. So good luck to all and keep the faith. The claws will drop and the sword is well worth the effort and price I would not take less then 1K for my exta )
I was one of the first to complete the quest on Terris Thule, using my 49 rogue grouped with a paladin to kill some o them higher pandas n yes asp poison from oasis n EC works, i used it fer a little then traded it fer a silken whip of ensnaring lol, got a good deal me thinks.
My experience with this quest is not so positive. I am a level 31 warrior, decently equipped but not twinked.
Here is what I have learned so far:
No one I have spoken to has obtained the Asp Poison Sacs in the zone. I have heard that the quest works if you get them from Oasis.
If you are similar to me (a non-twinked 31 warrior), you will have a great deal of trouble hunting in the zone. It is nearly impossible to find a group. Everyone is there for the sword, and if you are lucky you will find one partner to help
If you hunt in the zone without a SOW on at my level, you will die quickly. The number of times you will get adds will surprise you. If you don't believe me, try it. You will see what I mean. Just don't forget to bind yourself nearby.
It was relatively simple to obtain the foraged items. Apparently, they forage easily and people in the zone sell them cheaply or give them away.
The tiger skins are not too hard. I spent a day and one half hunting tigers (and all the other adds). Tigers hit hard. Kejak (sp?) Tigers do drop tiger skins. So do Highland Tigers. Highland tigers hit much harder so be careful. (FYI a highland tiger and a kejak tiger wiped out a skilled party composed of 27 rogue, 26 cleric and 31 warrior, all overconfident that they could hunt together in zone without a SOW). I have four tiger skins.
Panda Claws. Everyone is hunting pandas. Some people in the 40s are there hunting them. It is competitive. I have killed only one. Nothing on it. People are constantly trying to buy the claws in the zone. At one point I had a high level druid helping me, but after searching the entire zone NOT A SINGLE panda appeared on his track. Previously, I had seen about three or four pandas, all near the cat city. But if I don't have a group, I am too low to kill them solo because you have to EXPECT at least a couple of adds. There you are. I still have no sword.
Here is my advice. Do NOT come to this zone to do this quest unless you are arriving with your own group. You will not find a group there. If you don't have track or the help of a tracker, then you will have a tough time finding Panda. This is not an easy quest for my level. I won't be able to complete it unless I get some help. I would have been better off not wasting my time on this quest. Instead, it would have been smarter if I had focused on leveling and earning the plat to buy this sword or another comparable sword.
Best place to hunt pandas, imho, is kitty city, plenty of pandas path in front. The grp i was with, all guildies (although we would pick one or two others when we were short)was of 30-40's... and things got dicey at times. "Incoming mature panda... add tiger.. add tigress...add elder graniteback..." ;)
One afternoon my shammy sidekick and I ported to WC and hit Oasis for about 1 hour... gathered plenty of asp poison sacs and met up with the grp in Stonebrunt.
Great xp and loot (those monkeys are rich in gems!) but yes.. Stonebrunt can be brutal.
I agree about the adds - lvl 51 druid just exploring there tonight, and I had to keep camo up at all times!! *I* almost died from a freekin tiger ... they suck for level con. Just my two cents.
You make some good poimts about the Wak. I can imagine it's difficult without tracking. And, yes, the adds in this zone are brutal.
I completed it last night, as a 39 Ranger. It took a long time to gather up the 2 Panda Claws, and that's killing every Panda below an Elder I could track. Elders just create too much downtime, and an add could be fatal. The claws actually seem to be JUST as common (or rare, I guess) off Cubs. The people I talked to seems to share this opinion. I actually got lucky and found a third Claw shortly after - so I'm personally halfway to dualwielding these. The other components are much easier - tiger skins aren't very rare, and Highland Tigers offer excellent XP even at 39. Asp Sacs must be imported, or bought locally.
That said, I would think a party of 30s would be able to do this easier than a solo 39 Ranger, assuming you had a decent tracker. Definitely bring your own party if possible - pickup groups just don't seem to happen here, at least not for Wak questers. I saw a 31 Cleric LFGing for about an hour - then she gave up. That's damn rare in most zones.
Keep in mind though - I would rate this sword at the same level (or maybe a little better, since it procs much lower) than a SSoY. It's impossible for a level 30 to get one of those himself, and it wouldn't proc for him anyway.

My high-level buddies and I have alts the we enjoy running around with and were wondering what level the mobs are that drop them items for this quest. My level 18 Warrior and my friend's 19 rogue are each like a pair of these, but we are not sure what level to head to Stonebrunt to start working on this quest.
Also, does anyone know at what level the items for this quest start to go trivial? I'd hate to wait until we are high 20's and come to find out that we have to go to EC and pay unbelievable prices for one because we are too high for the quest components to drop.
As a side note, given the sheer number of these I am seeing in East Commons, my guess is that they will be selling for 500pp or less withing a few weeks. So to those of you wanting one, if you are the correct level to do the quest, don't waste your money, this simply looks like a rather easy quest with as many of these are up for sale.
The MoBs are all right around level 30-34. The only TLC-related problem with this quest is the Panda Claws. These are MAGIC 1hs weapons (albeit rather poor ones), and are therefore affected by TLC.
They're also a rather rare drop off pandas - in my first night there I killed 6 Panda Cubs (blue at 38, and they're the weakest ones) and no claws dropped.
If you HAVE to buy the claws, the current price seems to be 100pp/per on EMarr.

Ive been getting these while leveling up in Stonebrunt, have gotten about 6 now. When I go to Gfay to sell them, I get extremely different offers on it. I have personally sold them from 800pp up to 2k. I look for 800pp at the minimum. I have had people talk smack to me because im selling them for that much, and they are offering 500pp cuz 'thats all they are worth' so they say. But Im just like, too bad, and 10 mins later i get the offer im looking for. So obviously this item is worth the price. High levels do like to get these for their twinks. I believe this is the main reason they sell for so much now. In a month or so, i can see the average price going to 5-700pp but not less. Right now, I will continue selling them for a higher price because they are selling quick in that range.
there isnt that much difference in the SSoY and this weapon they almost the same ratio excepts this one has a better proc. This is a 90dam proc, and yak is 75. And this one procs at lower lvls, thus it is a better weapon.
One potential drawback to this weapon is that IF the proc is Cold-based (and I believe it is), it will be resisted heavily against Velious MoBs. But then at the same time, the MoBs in Solusek A/B, Burning Woods, etc. should almost NEVER resist...
By the way - this needs a convenient Yak-esque abbreviation. WoFS? FSWak?

Ok, the Wakizashi of the Frozen Skies VS Short Sword of Ykesha. I'll name the pluses and minuses. Short Sword of Ykesha: Better attack, better over all ratio.
Wakizashi of the Frozen Skies: Better delay, lighter, better proc.
It is very simple how to chose. get a SSoY and use it till 20, switch to WotFS till 37, and then switch back to SSoY. its very simple. BTW, no trivail loot in stonebrunt.
Trivial Loot Code prevents any MAGIC, LORE, or NO DROP item from appearing on a corpse if the monster was a trivial fight for you or your party. If the monster didn't have any MAGIC, LORE, or NO DROP items, you won't see the red trivial loot code message. If the monster *did* have a MAGIC, LORE, or NO DROP item, you *will* see the trivial loot code message, and the item will not be on the corpse. This is my educated guess, based on killing level 1-10 kobolds in the Warrens. A level 2 kobold runt isn't going to have any magic items on him, but if he has a kobold molar (a NO DROP quest item), then he'll give you the trivial loot message when you /bonk him for 55 damage.
Since the panda claws are a MAGIC one-handed slashing weapon (not a very good one either: 30 delay, 7 damage, primary only, yuck), then they won't drop if the panda was too low in level for you. If you kill a green panda, and you see that red TLC message, kick yourself in the butt, because you probably just destroyed a panda claw, and there are probably a dozen other people running themselves ragged trying to find one. :)
Some quest items in stoneburnt are droped dispite the loot code. Like the heads of the heratic invadors and so forth. This was done after stoneburnt went live.
#Anonymous,
Posted:Sep 24 2001 at 7:30 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) some dude told m these rarely drop off of things in stonebrunt. is this true? i hope so
Just got one of these for my 22 warrior last night to ***** around with. Well, that with his glowing black sword, this would proc 2 to 3 times a fight. (but i have really low dex) Meaning someone with higher dex would proc this thing like crazy, dealing some phat damage. Just thot id put in my 2 cp
These are really fast, well compaired to my 40 delay 2hs, heh. Their proc level is pretty low, evel 20 or something? So they fire ALOT at least onec every 3 rounds of attacks on my brothers 42 ranger. Even though you loose some dammage on the acctual raw dammage it fires its 81 dmg proc so much that it more than makes up for it. Get yourself shamy dex and boon of the gourou and you will be firing these as fast as you hit. IMO these are way better than ssoy couse there much faster and ther nuke is better and fires more, and they got almost the same ratio.
I recently acquired two of these swords while just leveling up by kitty city, and i sold one for 2k with ease on Povar, and someone traded me a Rygor shield of the Oracles for the other. Maybe i got lucky, but i turned around and sold hte shield for 7k in an instant. So, either some ppl just dont know, or these bad boys are really nice. Everyone has been praising this weapons proc and when i auctioned these, i got many tells right away for it. I will be farming these while leveling from 40-44 in SB, will definitely be nice change when all is done.
