GM events and historical events...there is a difference

Being an ex-guide I just wanted to let you know the ONLY time items like this are handed out are at historical quests. Historical meaning a large scale event that adds to the Norrathian story. For example this ring was handed out at the Firionia Vie in Gfay/Lfay event that caused the Lfay corruption. That was a historic event as it not only altered a zone for a period of time but has a true storyline behind it and will be remembered forever.

A typical GM event is more like a simple quest ("I'll give you a prize if you answer this riddle") or taking a bunch of aviak characters and trying to ...err rid the Aviak Tree in SK of intruders. At events like that you can still get nice items...but they're all usually fairly common items worth maybe between 500-1kpp and can be gotten in the game without attending these events.

Keep your eyes out though...I don't know the schedule of when more historical events will be played out but with a new expansion coming you can bet there will be events bringing out the Luclin storyline...and to top it off historical events are done on EVERY server...but not necessarily at the same time...so what the EQ boards for reports of a historical event on a server and then watch for it on yours (usually they're all done within a few days on all the servers)....all the historical events are run the same to keep the same story line...there is a bit of improvisation and of course getting players involved but the general background remains the same.

There is my GM event vs Historical event 101 =)

Hm. Really they only seem historical to the people who were there. They should do about ten times the number of GM events in my opinion. Make us think something different might happen today, and have a few more cute items like this thrown into the game. Great game, questionable customer contact.

Heh, well... In the only GM event that I was in... A bunch of Pixies playing tag in Greater Faydark... I played along and got a Glowing Black Stone... Worth a lot more than the 500-1k pp that you're guestimating...

Don't take this the wrong way... I just like disproving people's points for the hell of it.

Generally speaking, the reward for the quest seems to be either in proportion for the level of the mobs involved, or the level of the players involved. I've noticed that a lot of lower level quests seem to involve fine steel or the like, while the events targetted at the 20s and above usually reward fairly nice items like yours. But regardless, they are not the "unique" items that are rewarded for "plot" events.

I did have the priveledge of attending a pre-planned "plot" event. It was essentially Al'Kabor sending a few players on a quest for some ore. The highest level wizard there got the Sceptre of Al'Kabor, while 5 other players got the special rewards. I got something called "An Adept's Collar of Dhorentath," which is AC 6, Wis +10, HP +10.
