I accually own a suit of bamboo armor(Albeit, plate, not 'splint'), and the Dó(Breastplate) weighs about 6 or 8 pounds. But then again, I think it was metal-reinforced, I really have to check one of these days..
The full set looks awesome on a female Erudite. The legs and coat are by far the rarest. Arms are rare too. Killed over 500 to get a set. And probably closer to 1000 killed. And yes I know no life, atm.
I have kill probably 500+ of these highland kobalds with my wizard. I just AE the whole camp. The blue bamboo legs have dropped once for me and I have never seen the blue bamboo coat drop at all. Either they took it out or is extremely rare. Probably very, very rare but come on! Why on earth this rare?!
Stats just below banded. Aw nuts. Now if Verant were to have added bonuses to the armors then we would see movement from banded. How about a full suit of bamboo cobining to give +2 to all stats and saves? Would that be too much to ask?
Considering all they do is apply a colored tint to the existing armor, the actual color of the armor is determined by what normal chainmail looks like on that particular race.. On my Barbarian the stuff actually comes out looking dark blue because normal chainmail is gray on a Barbarian.. On a dark elf it's going to look different.. Or on most other races for that matter.. And yes this is pretty much low level twink armor, probably same stats as blackened iron used to be.. I think Blackened Alloy armor has better stats now.. It's probably only going to be worn for looks anyway (same as blackened iron) So get over it, no other mid-level zone has any better loot..
All of the blue bamboo is crap. Bad stats on every piece, its got the graphic of plain chain mail on yer char but its *** brown for some stupid reason despite the fact that bamboo is tan and the item states it should be blue. Sells for anywhere from 15 to 40pp to vendors though.
Are all of your armor textures turned on? The only reason I'm asking is because even though Verant has patched all the new armor textures, they are turned OFF by default in your config file (because only high end machines can handle them without choking).
Go into your eqconfig file and make sure that the following lines are in the file and they are all set to ON. If not, you won't see all the textures.
For example, my shaman wears Arctic Wyvern Armor. It is cool looking with little gems on it, etc. I played EQ on a friend's computer the other day and my char looked like crap! His armor looked like dark-grey chainmail. I went into his config file, changed the settings, and was back to business.
Check it out - this may be your problem. Or else the armor may just look like crap. I wish I could help you, but because I am a high-level char I can't loot any of this armor to see it.
Um, just me, but isn't Bamboo often used in construction because of its' tensile strength and the fact that it is LIGHT? Blue Bamboo must be a heavy wood, like Palm Tree or Birds-Eye Maple...
More like walnut or ironwood. An ogre couldn't wear this stuff :)
But I agree. Traditional Japanese home construction was bamboo because of its strength and lightness, so that damage was minimized during earthquakes. Imagine this piece of armor falling on your head. OUCH! Store it on a low shelf!
i was just wondering what they look like... the title, "blue bamboo" sounds like they would look pretty cool..stonebrunt mountains just came out today, im really excited about it, im typing this while it is downloading on my 56k modem( well i cant wait to see what these look like, and i think verant actually did something great for a change.
