This item costs 528 platinum to create. (See post immediately below)

However it is worth a whopping 1800 Tribute points. Well worth the investment if this item is trivial to you and you are using the Tribute system.
I've made this.

I just recently made a full set of Imbued Steelsilk. Under the new model, it looks like blood red fine plate. The helmet has no graphic, but it makes the standard hood that all Erudites wear black.

To be quite honest, this would be impossible to make for a person who CAN use it at a price they can afford (and not be throwing their money away).

Here are the ingredients required to make these:
6 Terrorantula silks (makes 3 swatches),
1 vial of Purified Mana (takes 4 rubies and a poison vial to make, as well as 1000 mana),
1 Platinum Thread,
1 Tunic Pattern,
1 Imbued Amber;

Total cost of vendor bought items (at 120+ Cha for best prices): Rubies = 132pp x 4 = 528pp, Platinum Thread = 210pp, Amber = 2.5pp, Tunic Pattern, Poison Vial = Negligible (less than 1pp each). Grand total: 740.5pp.

That's already a cost of 740.5pp, WITHOUT throwing in the Terrorantula silks. Considering the rarity of the Terroratula, the price of this armor is astronomical. Luckily, this armor trivials at around 110 Tailoring, which means that if you raise Tailoring in order to make this, you'd only have to go up to the most minimal Wu's items. An SK of about 35th level or higher would have no problem raising Tailoring that high, since Silks are rather easy to come by.

In the end, in my opinion, this item is for someone who is gonna throw it on a twink, someone who is really into tradeskills, who wants to make a set just for the sense of accomplishment, or, in the extreme, an Erudite SK in the middle of his career (this would be rare, as melees usually have little disposable money, unless they farm the hell out of something).

I myself put it on a twink, and, man, this is some rocking gear. Not only do people go nuts about how cool I look, it's also nice knowing that you have a very unique setup, and if you're into roleplaying, like I am, you can pretend to be Cazic Thule's chosen and play off the Dark Lord bit, since, really, you're pretty unique and special for having such armor.

Tailoring versus Smithing

While I'm glad VI instituted some cultural items for Erudites, I'm puzzled as to why they did what they did. For the record, I am aware of the need to "Flesh out" the Erudite Paladin/SK/Cleric niche... but, WHY flesh out 3 plate-wearing classes with essentially cloth-based armor?

i have no idea why eru casters shouldn't be able to wear steelsilk. it's only leather and there are plenty of leather-type armors for casters that aren't this special. (I.E. damask, dark muslin, etc.) not only that, but there is also the fact that dakr elf casters are allowed adamantite armor with very nice stats for their casters(decent chunks of INT).

i normally say there is a good balance, and that some ppl are really pushing a pointless issue, but when it comes to racial armors it seems quite possible that erudite casters are left in the cold.

btw, are human casters able to wear field plate?

also why is it that diff elven races and some small races can wear some of the same racial armor but the same is not true with humanoids?this greatly reduces the market for it.

also, i could be wrong but it seems to me that eru racial is the hardest to get ingredients to make(terrorantula silks).

Okay before Cultural anything came out I had my Erudite Cleric from Paineel. The main trade I wanted to work on was Smithing. I spent a good two weeks working on it.. I then hit 175 which is the point where Banded trivials out at.

I stopped there for awhile as the trade skill was going to be more expensive to go on, so I needed to level to make more cash. Well soon VI started to make cultural trade skills for differant races. I so wanted Erudites to have smithing, since mine was already up there a ways. Tons got cultural, but not Erudite. However the rumors were already starting to fly that Erudites would get Tailoring. That meant I would have to start over on a new trade skill, but before I started that road I waited to confirm that VI would do this. The last thing I wanted to do was get my tailoring up then find out we get something else.

Well the rumors were true, but at the time they came I was raiding so much with my guild I hadn't had the time to put into tailoring. I'm now just starting to get my Tailoring up. Silk Cords just went trivial.. hehe .. that means I'm at 26 for skill. The stats are fine for this armor.. HOWEVER... why only let plate classes of Erudites wear this?!? Is it not a tailoring skill? Would it not make more sense to allow a Necromancer to wear this? I myself do not have a reason to make this... being a Wis caster. The only thing I see good here for my level is the STR and Mana. Most the items I get now have way more for Mana. Like someone said.. this armor would tend to go more to a twink.

Lets think about what you have to do to make this armor.. first you have to kill Terrorantuala. Not excatly a low level creature. Plus you have to camp him. Only seen in South Ro and he is a rare spawn at that. At least the drops are tradeable. Next you need a LOT of coin to make this. You have to use Platnium thread which isn't cheap. You need a fairly high Tailoring skill.. and an item from an Enchanter.

This item says Shadow Knight more than it does Cleric. Being Imuded by Cazic-Thule it gives more STR than the other two Erudite dieites. Luckily it does give decent Mana.. for for a BP at the level you'd most likely be able to make this item you should have better. Plus like I said the Necromance is left out and I see way way more Erudite Necromancers than I do Shadow Knights and Clerics combined.

Don't get me wrong I still will make this stuff.. I'd love a set if only for the Fashion, but its not practical for me to wear over what I have now. Once I make a 2nd pair and beyond it'll most likely go to rich twinks.

The non-imbued silk steel armor has a higher trivial but should help you with the pieces that aren't as turned towards clerics. You'll have to work a bit harder to get your skill up but IIRC the non-imbued is made for wis casters.

Can someone verify skill in tailoring required to create this item? It seems like some friggin amazing gear, and w/ a skill of 140, I think I'd drop my monk to make an erudite, since he's low in the game still.

Why I Don't Like
# Aug 25 2001 at 6:03 AM Rating: Good
This item is a very good one. A erudite shadow knight, who starts with low Strength, could appreciate the +7 strength. The SV Pos is good to counteract the naturally low erudite SV Pos. The AC rivals that of Darkforge. What's not to like?

The fact that this item will most likely only be a twink item.

This item requires imbued gems, terrorantula silk, a very high rating in tailoring, and that the maker be an Erudite. Combining all these factors, we end up with a very nice piece of equipment that will be passed over by all those but the richest of twinkers. Since you would need so much money to buy this item (at least several thousand platinum), why not buy Treeweave? Better AC and Str bonus, plus you'll probably be left with some extra cash to buy some other items. I know that this is a tremendous achievement, and I congratulate the person who first made this item. Boo to Verant for making an item only useable by those with no use for it.
