I've heard a number of rumors both in-game and on boards that the effect has been removed from this weapon? Can anyone actually confirm the current stats etc on it? I was nearly heartbroken when i haerd this, just over halfway through quest myself.

Piece of junk.

this sword is really poor if you consider the risk vs reward. the ratio isnt even 1:1 !!

there are much easier to obtain and better ratio weapons around than this piece of junk.

Risk vs. Reward.

Very little risk in obtaining this item actually. Now, it may be difficult or a test of patience but not risky. Difficult part is skilling up smithing to a sufficient level. Patience part is starting over if you fail a trival combine (thanks VI for that wonderful little skill check...total BS).

Is the sword worth it? You bet your sweet **** it is. HPs, AC, Resist, danm near to 1:1 (1:1.08), Stats, and a nice proc to boot. Oh yea, a delay of 40 which qualifies for the 2h bonus damage after level 50 or 51.

Bonus: You have a weapon that 98% of the people go "wtf is that!" when you hit and when the procs goes off.

This is a good item if you have the will to obtain. Very little risk.

What is risk? Dying? Dying is just another timesink. When it all comes down to it, it's all about time. Time vs. Reward.

Time vs. Reward isn't worth it on this quest. But I'm doing the quest anyway. I like the challenge...

And I'm a Shaman :b

It is worth it until you get to VT, upper level Velious, and + Tier 3 planes.

He's right. You are a moron. My personal word of choice would be a**troll since that appears to be what you're doing here, trolling. This is not junk. A weapon doesn't have to be better than 1:1 to be worth anything, sorry to burst your bubble. Only people who I've seen with that kind of attitude are folks who have been lvl 60 and ONLY lvl 60 for way too long, and need to go back to their roots and make a lvl 1, untwinked char, and play that for a bit to get their reality focus adjusted.
RE: Piece of junk.
# Oct 06 2002 at 8:32 AM Rating: Default
OK once again we have another n00b who completely missed my point entirely.

Sure this weapon MIGHT be pretty decent for the likes of you, or anyone else under 50.

BUT you need to consider just how DIFFICULT it is to do this quest, which should reward a weapon better than 37/40.

Now do you see why its a piece of junk..? Im guessing no.. but hey what did I expect from players who've probably never been outside of kc.

please note that with the 2hander damage bonus, this sword becomes a 71dmg/40 delay weapon, which is easily over your 1:1 dmg:delay ratio "requirement for a good weapon". Add on a proc that decreases your opponent's attack power and Hp by 240points over 48 seconds, 15 AC on the sword, as well as stats, and more noticeable +11 to svf svc and svm. With the combination of nice stats, good ratio and rarity, I would think that this sword would be well worth the effort for anyone who's willing to WORK for it.

Wow, if that was how dmg bonus worked...then A Weighted Axe at lvl 70 would be

45 dmg, 150 delay, dmg bonus: 154.

According to you that would be

199 damage, 150 delay.

Yeah f***ing right.

Level 70 my ***? HTF can you not know how this game works? Yutz.

I play a druid, but this quest looks awesome!

Correct me if I am wrong on this next part, but please do so politely...

When your wisdom is under 200, each point of wis over natural wis is +6 mana.
When it is over 200, it's +8 mana.

The earring here has +80 mana, so let's do some math...
That's +4 wis... BUT

COnsider the other stats. Now find me a +4 wis earring which has the same stats...

With AA mental clarity maxxed, along with innate wisdom, this would not be a comprimise at all.

Now, here's the realistic part...

THIS SWORD IS FOOKING AWESOME!

There is NO way I would take any of the loots you need for this quest if someone who could weild this sword were there.

Why?

This sword friggen' ROCKS! Even if the effect has been removed, the damage vs ratio, along with the stats would be chosen over epic for some classes, in some scenarios. This thing has the potential (espescially <---spelled wrong| for a tank who can swing fast anyway)...

If you thikn it sux, let's do this. You take your highest toon, with a weapon you thikn is good, and duel a toon of same level who is using this weap...

Maybe they'll be nice and help you get your corpse afterwards.

Varent has changed the stats. My guild and I killed Garzicor today (I got kill shot woohoo!) and I foraged the final blade with a smithing skill of 176 and was trivial. I handed the blade in and VI has changed the DMG/DLY to: 37/40 with a Damage Bonus of 34 All other stats and weight remains the same.

Once again....Damage bonuses listed are only for the weilder's level and delay of weapon of character 51+. Pre 51 the bonus isn't as large, but once you hit 51+, the bonus jumps. That damage bonus of 34 was for YOU. If some one lvl 55 looks at it, and a lvl 60 has the same thing, the damage bonus will be different for both of them.

I'm SO glad someone else knows how that works =P I'm sick of arguments that break out on these boards over what the stats are on a weapon, and the central focus is on the damage bonus. Guess people don't look and say "hmm... all my 1hsers have the same damage bonus.. and all my 2hsers have the same damage bonus.. maybe it's based on ME and not the weapon!!!" Anyway.. just a pet peeve of mine =P

RE: Stats are Changed
# Jun 28 2002 at 12:47 AM Rating: Default
Well although all your one hand slash weapons have the same bonus, the same is not true of 2hs weapons. The damage bonus on two handed weapons depends on the level of the wielder AND the delay of the weapon. Two handed weapons with higher delays have higher damage bonuses than those with low delays. But, yeah, all weapons with 40 delay will have the same bonus for the same person.

i was looking at a friends light velium brawl stick 30/39 and at lvl 34 it had a dmg bonus of 4, and my baton of faith 30/40 has a dmg bonus of 5 so yes slower weapons do have bigger damage bonuses. lol i wonder what the dmg bonus on that 50/150 axe would be?

Bump to this question .. velious 1 handers used in combo make this item a pretty poor showing, considering the difficulty of the quest. I hope it got a decent bump in stats during the two hander upgrade .. anyone know for sure?

That and if you are not MA then you might want to use a 2h wep to lower yer agro a bit so you don't get squashed because the MOB took notice of you and decided it was worth his six seconds to keel you.
any changes?

Could any true wielder of this weapon please post if the stats are still right? Noone did reply on a post asking for changes with the 2h update...

imho they MUST have upgrade it because after upgrading other weapons like the Darkmetal Falchion (okok its a 1hs but nm) you should be rewarded still fine for the effort to make that quest...

Some other fun and well thought-out quests:

Qeynos Badge series
Bard Epic
*Some* parts of the Coldain Ring series
Veracity Earring series
Parts of "Aid Gimmel" series (too much farming)

Qeynos Badges, Garzicor's Vengeance, and 10th Ring War are the most fun I've had in EQ, though.

History of the Naginata
# Aug 10 2001 at 9:43 PM Rating: Excellent
OK, here goes:

I recall the Naginata was first used as an infantry weapon, but its wielders thought it was too cumbersome and heavy, and preferred the Yari, a shorter, lighter, straight-edged spear. (had a straight sword blade, while Naginata had a curved sword blade)

Also, Sohei (or Souhei) Monks were trained in Jodo, (not Judo) and learned to use any kind of staff or spear (yari or naginata).

Finally, after the yari replaced the naginata, (and after the women were allowed to wield weapons), women were taught the art of Naginata (yes, it's also a martial art) which was almost exclusively women, but I believe there were some men.

So, the weapon was used by:

Sohei Monks (and possibly Bishamon, but I don't remember)
Infantry pikemen equivalents
Samurai (especially females).

As for the actual weapon, yes, it's a polearm, it's a Japanese curved-bladed spear. (its blade resembled a katana's or a scimitar's)

If any information is incorrect, don't ***** at me. It's been a while since I looked this stuff up.

PS: The weapon is very nice, indeed. I'd love to get one as my Shadowknight, I'd just adore it for hours... Then go on a mad killing spree and carve every giant to pieces!!

I took the time to read the quest, vary impressive quest and well thought out storyline to it. Personally, i thought the dragon was going to be Trakanon. I enjoyed the story as much as I enjoy the involvement it requires. I wish that it didn't require so much guild involvement though.

Every story ever written was about a master smith with years and years of training led him to create weapons of legend. I'm just sorry that it requires at least 3 epic guild involvements (DN, KD, and OT).

This weapon is a must have for any HighMaster smith. I stress to Verant time and time again about what they have done to smithing and class based advantages. I just cannot see a wizard pound out a 2 handed sword just because he has a couple str items, some buffs, and his leet intelligence where as a warrior, the born mastersmiths can barely get his attributes high enough to be an effective smith. It has taken me twice as long (180 skill) to get where I am compared to a caster. There just aren't enough high int items to go around for warriors to gain skill as efficient.

To see a meleeist with this weapon shows true dedication to the skill and not only skill, but true mastery in the sence of melee. It reminds me of Huma's Dragonlance's... this is a weapon of Norrath legend.

Hey Strahm, your method of thinking is correct. However, as of 21 Aug 2001, they use STR, Int, or Wis as to which is used on they skill check. Also... try to insure your Prime Requisite for the skill check (in this case, mine would be int as it is much higher than my str) is not a prime number. It throws off the log arythems for the check and you will VERY rarely be succesful, let alone improve in skill.

Just as a FYI, us folks at www.eqtrader.com have deduced that for smithing, skill ups are based on whichever is highest Int, Wis, or Str. So, for a warrior just pump that Str to 250+ and you'll skill up just as fast as that pasty little High Elf Chanter with 250 int.

(BTW, the test was done with a person that was completly in-game drunk so int/wis were 1. Pretty conclusive)
Giant killer?
# Aug 05 2001 at 7:55 AM Rating: Default
The quest implies this weapon has "special power" against giants. What is that power, does anyone know?
RE: Giant killer?
# Aug 07 2001 at 11:27 AM Rating: Default
My guess is that the proc "Garzicor's Vengeance" triggers a spell that does damage only to Giants, like the cleric spells affect only Undead, and the magician spells affect only Summoned.
naginata
# Aug 04 2001 at 4:58 PM Rating: Good
The naginata is actually a polearm. It is 6 feet of pole and 2.5 feet of razor blade at the end. It is an ancient Japanese weapon that the women of a village used to defend the village while the Samurai were off doing the war stuff. But thats in real life =) Seen an 80 year old lady wield one that would own just about anyone. Its a sick weapon with graceful sweaping arcs, and a hagard mean old lady adds a scary feel to it also.

Awhile back Verant said they were starting to balance the quests for each Velious city out. This is probably the SS version of the ring (melee) and shawl (caster) quests. Maybe I just haven't seen it yet but I'm thinking a Kael version must not be far off.

Anyways you might hit the mark there. Instead of more quests for one item like those in Thurg, they might have made one epic quest and that's it. I love this quest, wish I could get someone to do it with me just for the fun of it. Cause it WOULD be fun. Quests are fun. Those in Velious that is ;)

And at last rewards are very satisfying....
#REDACTED, Posted: Aug 05 2001 at 4:26 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) The thing about this quest that sucks is that it appears to have no rewards useable by bards or rogues.
