Shamans and Plate
# Jun 23 2002 at 4:37 PM Rating: Decent
Accually Shamans are a Non-Plate class, BUT there are some major exceptions that should be noted...

1: ALL totemic is Plate....Shaman, minus ikky's
2: Chitin plate is usable by Shamans, Minus Ikky's

there's more but um tired and drunk and can't think of them....

i know theres more...but but....uh.....night

zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz
#REDACTED, Posted: Aug 06 2001 at 4:11 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) --Edited-- Ignorant post by someone who'd hacked my ZAM account back in 2001. Completely made no sense what so ever. At that time i was constantly grouped with a Shaman... sooo yea... lol --Edited--

Yeah, Shamans suck, no doubt about it. Here's why:

1)Slow / regrowth (regen) keeps clerics bored off their butts,
2)Buffs are always wanted by those melee classes, and I can't figure out why... a 255 str / dex won't help in combat one bit,
3)We can debuff not only physical stats, but the whole spectrum of resists, and everyone complains when that happens...

Utandaayar, you've opened my eyes! I can see that shaman are awful, a class truly not to be played! I'm logging on now to delete my shaman. Thanks bro!

E.T. - 53 Shaman of the Tribunal
(As said in a different post... Stupidity should be painful)

[edit] - To soften what I just said, I'm cranky and hungover. Drank too much beer w/ that darn dwarven cleric.

not possible.... a fellow warrior bashing a shammy? You best not! Maybe you are a bit slower than me so i'll make this real simple:
Shaman= str
sta
agi
dex
hp
ac
regen
.
.
.

get the picture?

then, all the effects above
= quicker kills
quicker pulls
more fun
more exp
more loot
fewer lives lost
HAPPY TIMES

thus, I LOVE SHAMMIES!!! and so should you!

I guess you know what you're talking about, considering you're level 25... Get to real high levels and you'll sing a different tune. Shamen are sweet, and fun to group with.

Actually, I'm real glad I came here, since I didn't know Shamen were not a plate class, but now it all makes sense. Thanks for the info on that.

Kinda reminded me of the Serpentine Bracer, all this Plate/No plate argument.

A lot of folks are fooled by the fact that totemic armor looks like plate and uses the same names (breastplate, greaves, vambraces, instead of tunic, leggings and sleeves) and icons as plate. I realize it's an arbitrary classification, but really, it boils down to which classes are able to wear which types of basic armor (cloth, leather, chain, plate). Verant often uses these classifications as a shortcut to assign eligible classes to a new type of armor, but it's not set in stone. Remember rubicite? Looked like plate, acted like plate, but wearable by chain and plate classes?

In any case, so there's no more confusion, here are the basic armor classifications:

"Plate classes"--WAR, SHD, BRD, PAL, CLR
"Chain classes"--SHM, ROG, RNG
"Leather classes"--MNK, DRU
"Cloth classes"--ENC, MAG, WIZ, NEC

Remember, these are only determined by the best basic armor a class can wear, basic being (1) bronze/steel plate/FS plate; (2) ring/chain/banded; (3) leather/rawhide/patchwork/studded/reinforced leather; (4) cloth/raw silk. When you're talking something like bizarro planes armor, though, all bets are off. :)

For all your newbies who say Shamans are a Plate Class, look at who can equip Fine Plate. THOSE are the Plate Classes. Shamans are CHAIN classes.

Shamen are considered a chain class , along with rogues and rangers.

Yes , they can wear som eplate type armour , as can the others..Mrylokars , Tolans , TV etc all LOOKS like plate , but the fact is they are not plate classes.

Im going to guess that they screwed up and put Bard on when they ment to put shaman. My 2 cents

All the other classes that can use this are plate classes. Shaman arent, so I seriously doubt they made a mistake. My 2cp worth.
#REDACTED, Posted: Jul 07 2001 at 11:02 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) SHAMAN ARE NOT A PLATE CLASS? LOL!
RE: Hmmm no shaman
# Jul 07 2001 at 5:53 PM Rating: Excellent
Actually no, Shamen aren't a real plate class. When the original game shipped Shamen didn't have plate. The class-specific mid-level armor was introduced later. The real plate classes are Warrior, SK, Pally, Bard, and Cleric. We can argue on and on about this, but really, be reasonable, not argumentative.

I think Aindolaf was thinking of Iksar Shaman, since Iksar can't wear plate...
#REDACTED, Posted: Jul 06 2001 at 6:46 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) uhh, actually, Shamen ARE a plate class...
RE: Hmmm no shaman
# Jul 09 2001 at 12:17 AM Rating: Decent
Actually Benion, no they aren't. Shamans are a CHAIN class. Learn more about the game before you try to correct people about it.
RE: Hmmm no shaman
# Jul 08 2001 at 11:23 PM Rating: Excellent
Not that it matters for any reason, but since people don't seem to understand the plate and chain classes... Any blacksmith knows who are plate and chain classes... Look at the classes who can equip fine plate... These are plate classes... Look at the classes who can wear banded and not fine plate... These are chain classes. A lot of armor may look like plate, but that doesn't make the class a plate class. If you want to be technical about it.
