This weapon is not the best. but you have to at least pretend to humor the game and the item database. And pretend, if you lived in EQ, a FINE STEEL weapon is what would be a darn fine goblin slayer. You have to pretend this is a finely crafted weapon. Humor them. Fine steel : the average. They are a 1/4 ratio weapon. So, in that regard, this IS a nice weapon. I dont know what effect everyone is talking about. I DO know it drops off :

Tae Ew Spiritualist

Anyways. At a higher level look at that damage bonus! whewt. that would be a nice weapon indeed. :) Not to mention (if you wanna farm one and twink for fun) I never realized there is NOT a separate skill set for piercing anf 2hpiercing! Which means, you can skill up using a 1 handed piercer, when young with a shield for added ac. :) however BEWARE, its NOT listed as magic here. A ghoul or willowwisp will kick your butt :P~

I found one of these on the druid merchant at the Steamfont ring for 1 copper! I had my mage at the time but I bought it anyway. I guess I can use it as twink gear or run it up to bazaar to sell for a profit.

Ridossan and his lance.
The use for the grimy lance has been found.
The quest starts in Stonebrunt mountains. You find a spirite (a red wisp) hail it and follow its conversation. The spirit is the spirit of Ridossan and he wants you to bring him his weapon(the grimy lance) so he can get revenge on the Kejekan who killed him. Give him the lance and you get an idol of fear(no drop, lore,no rent) and his human form appears and you follow him to cat village to kill Disciple Orokate, once Orokate is dead his ghost appears and you give the ghost the idol for the reward.

quote:
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

a spirit says, Yes,the lance! and it begins to glow as it draws power from the lance, which now floats in mid air next to the spirit. The form of the spirit expands and takes on a humanoid shape. The air itself seems to condense around the spirit as bits of matter appear within the glowing form. The bits soon take the shape of bones and ropes of muscle. Within minutes,an emaciated Erudite male stands before you. Despite his frail appearence,he stand upright and strong,a fierce red lite burning in his eyes.

Ridossan the unliving gazes upon his lance and begins to laugh maniacally. He says, AH HAH I am corporeal once more! I cannot hold this form for long, but it will be long enough for me to rip open that flea brothel and..well I wont spoil it for you heheheheh. Come! Assist me in the attack on the Kejekan village. The one that wears the iron beads must die at my hands and NO OTHER. Just make sure I get him and you will be rewarded.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I didnt get to help him kill the cat because I got trained died and a dr00d killed Rodassan. But I went and killed the cat by myself and the ghost spawned. Give him the idol and you get.

It's a post from Alalazam stone brunt board :

somewhere in the nw of Stone brunt mountain there is a spirit - looks like a red wisp. Here's the dialog I had:

You say, 'Hail, a spirit'
a spirit flares brightly as you attempt to speak with it. By listening very closely you're brely able to make out it's frantic whispering. It keep refering to one of the Kejekans, one that apparently slew him as he attempted to cleanse the land of them. It wants nothing more than to destroy who killed him, but it cannot in this [form].
You say, 'what form'
a spirit flares brightly again as it explains there isn't enough time for it to explain. It then begins to whisper again, telling you that it commands you the aid it in it's revenge. You make out, through the barely audible whispering, that if you do help it, you will be rewarded.
You say, 'what revenge'
a spirit whispers that he will need to become whole again before he can defeat the fool animal that slew him. The spirit admits to one mistake before coming here to wipe the Kejekans. In an earlier campaign, he lost a very powerful weapon. That weapon would enable him to take on a form likened to his former self. If you return this weapon to the spirit, and then help him to defeat his enemy, the reward will be yours.
You say, 'what enemy'
a spirit dims in loathing of the creature that ended his crusade. It describes a Kejekan wearing a necklace of iron beads and using nothing to fight with but it's claws. It's description almost shows sign of admiration until it quickly denounces whatever idiot beliefs it may have. It goes on to say that it must kill it on it's own for the revenge to be complete.
You say, 'what earlier campaign'
a spirit seems hesitant to go into details and reacts harshly when asked further. He does say that he went to enlist an army of lesser beings to do it's bidding, but they refused. The spirit scoffs and says they believed the lord they shared favored them more than it. It goes on, explaining their utter foolishness and eventual demise in great detail.
You say, 'what reward'
a spirit begins making a strange halted whisper, you assume it to be a condescending chuckle. The spirit then explains it can do much for you, for it is a legendary crusader of the Heretics....You make out it's name....the blood drains from your face as you hear the name......Ridossan

It seems this is the spirit of Ridossan, and he wants me to bring him his weapon, then there will probably be a fight with some catman. I have no clue what this weapon is, though - there are several quests for armour parts of riddosan, but no weapon. Only thing I can think of is the forlorn naginata from the kobold king in the warrens, but I cannot get this because of the loot rules.

here is my response to this post :

if you kil the disciple Orokate in the keljekan city, a "Ghost of Ridossan" will spawn at his place. When the ghost spawn it says that he will return near his lord Cazic Thuke but befor he want to reward the' stranger who help him a lonf time ago ; for that he need the idol he gave to this stanger. I think this the final step of the line of quest given by royal guard sheltuin in Paineel.
So i think its strange that he ask for another thing that hais weapon. I think when you give him hias weapon the spirit will say you that he can not kill the cat but that he will reward you for killing him. So i think i will gave you the idol as reward for giving the weapon.
I think there is two possibility for the weapon :
it can be the Spirit Reaver Dropped by Jelquar the Soulslayer in the Stone brunt mountain ( it migh be a good possibility because of the name)
or it can be the Grimy lance, dropped by the ritualist in Cazic thule : this lance seem to have some ancient power locked (when id it says that you sense soùe ancient power) and to be a key for a quest ; "the lizardman of cazic thule can be the army of lesser beings who believed the lord they shared favored them more than it".
So i think the grimy lance is the good weapon : the ghost may unsealed its power.

So i think we are in a good way to discover a lovely mini epic weapon for mid level sk.
So if there is some high levels sk that travel in Stone brunt mountain, could you please try give the spirit the lance and follow the quest ?
Thank you in advance.

there is a quest in stonebrunt mountains when you hail something just named a spirit it asks for a weapon that it used when it was in its normal form and it said it was going on a campaign to recruit lesser beings for something that worshipped the same god as it and later when you talk to it the spirit tells you its name was riddosan an old erudite shadow knight that worships cazic thule so just my opinion.

by the way i suck at explaining things so anyone that has talked to the spirit in stonebrunt please post something to explain this better

# Aug 17 2001 at 5:00 AM Rating: Default
Its "grimy" as in (dirty or crappy) so its effect is jacked up, like its desciption says. That means it works, its a grimy lance. Deal with it.
RE: effect
# Aug 25 2001 at 2:13 PM Rating: Default
Wrong. If you identify it, it says "You sense a hidden power" or something, meaning either 1) it can be upgraded, 2) it's a quest (probably broken), or 3) the weapon is just retarded like Verant is.

/shrug
it must be broken and forgotten
# Jul 30 2001 at 8:25 PM Rating: Decent
i picked this up the other night and have found it to be busted in more ways than one. not only does it have no effect and says it is out of charges when it should proc, it also doesnt grey out your attack hotkeys. as the last poster pointed out, i too had it identified and it said "Item Lore: You sense a power within". i have /bug'ed it and sent emails to VI, also talked with a GM but all he said was to /bug it. it must be on the list of things to do but they just havent gotten around to it.

Something I was wondering is how a dmg. of 15 and a dly of 41 has a excellent ratio 15/41 is not that great its not even that good how is it excellent?

But now as mentioned before if a effect is put on the item that would probably greatly incease the ratio of it.

41 divided by 15 == 2.733
2.733 == Excellent damage ratio by Allakhazam's chart. It's really pretty good compared to a lot of weapons out there (9/51 2HS or 4/24 1HP are fairly normal). Keep in mind, of course, that the scale goes up to terms like 'Insane' and 'Godlike' (okay, maybe not Godlike). Check out the Argent Defender (33/49) to see what the damage adjective is for a truly excellent weapon.

Actually, Allakhazam's scale DOES go up to "Godly", which is a ratio under 1. Check this out:

http://eqdb.allakhazam.com/item.html?item=586

Now, people say this item only dropped on Test, but that's not the point.

On the other end of the ratio scale is "Laughable". I forget, but I think this is a ratio over 6.

Ok guys, stop for a sec here and look at all the dates on the above posts... See a pattern here? This Item was added in the last patch, and according to a GM on Bristlebain, the effect was accidentally left out of the code, and the effect will be added in the next patch. Sheesh people, Verant makes a little slip and ya jump down there throats, just relax.
RE: Effect coming
# Jul 23 2001 at 3:20 PM Rating: Decent
Hmm... well there's been patches since the date of that post, and still no effect. I bet it's at the very bottom of their list of bugs to fix. The dmg/dly doesn't seem "excellent" to me, so a proc or effect would really help this item... I won't complain too much though, I picked it up from a vendor for exactly 1 cp :)

# Jun 28 2001 at 7:02 PM Rating: Decent
As stated before it comes from a lizard Ritualist in Cazic Thule. All four times I killed him he had the lance.
Yes it does have the effect: tag with no effect on it. It also gives a "this item is out of charges" message when used.
Obviously its a broken weapon.
RE: grimy lance
# Jul 03 2001 at 8:26 PM Rating: Decent
Don't just assume it's broken, it may be part of
A) a quest
B) not supposed to have an effect (Don't consider that broken)
C) read above ;-D

If its supposed to have an effect and doesnt that would make it broken.
If its not supposed to have an effect but has the effect: tag and gives a this item is out of charges message then used I consider that broken.

Lizardman ritualist drops this along with decayed armor... this seems to be the only new drop in Cazic-Thule that I have seen (maybe i just need to farm more). The effect on this weapon actually does nothing, making it a very bad weapon.

Ye thinks too much, and it obviously isn't doing anything good to you.

First of all, the fact that it has the 'Effect:' and nothing else written on it, does NOT mean that it's fake. Why don't all those "it's fake" people pull their foot out of their mouth and not start assuming. There has been PLENTY of weapons with the desc. like this. At times it's broken, at times it's perhaps meant for the future, when some effect may be places on it. Or it had the effect and it was removed for whatever reasons.

With every single new item, which is posted, there's always someone who yells "It's a fake!", then there's someone who always yells "It's a fake, there is no 2h piercing!" and then someone who yells "It's a fake, paladins can't use piercing weapons!". If any of those wiseguys would only bother to search a bit before yapping away..

#REDACTED, Posted: Jul 11 2001 at 11:10 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) Same post as above, make sure to get these ones in between when you get to removing messages.

Why does some self-righteous 'been-playing-for-years' uber-geek always have to jump on idle speculation?

Although people who think knowlege of EQ=Anything of value annoy me just as much as the next guy, methinks you were the first wanting to show off how jaded you were. Do people who post here wonder about the person looking in from the outside, and how they would /boggle at those kinds of posts (i.e. "you freaking newbie who doesn't know anything, go back to your hole")?

It's just bizare to me that anyone actually thinks having an in depth understanding of A GAME means squat. I like checking out weapons here, and then reading down looking for helpful posts about who drops it, and if anyone sells whatever "it" is, how often it drops, etc; but it's such a pain in the *** to have to wade through the crap posts by people who seem mentally ill and detached from reality to get to the helpful gems.

Go rant on a message board about how your class "owns" everyone else, and how you wouldn't bother to even sell that Dark Reaver to a vender, since you are so uber. The only thing people prove here by flaming, is that they need some attention from a mental health professional. Or better yet, save the EQ rants for a co-worker, and see haw fast they can get 100ft away from you.
