Might as well make it yourself

I had to learn to make these pretty quick as this item is required to make some of the lower trivial tailoring items, i.e. cured silk mask. I found the easiest place to do this was in East Freeport. I purchased both the Packet of Kiola Sap and the Bottles from the NPC named Sun Alemaker. The Packet of Kiola Sap cost me .115 pp each and the Bottles went for .005 pp each. The Water Flask is available right around the corner from the NPC Innkeep Hunter in the East Freeport Inn building (building with the Soulbinder out front) for .010 pp each. The nice thing about making this in Freeport is that both buildings have a brew barrel very close by.

Please note the Bottle is refunded on failure.

On Fennin Ro, these also cost about 2-4pp each. The way I see it this is not that difficult to make its trival at 46 not 200. So if someone wants to save money, they can make it themselves. If they'd rather get it quick and easy then they have the money to spend anyways. I don't agree that its "highway robbery" to charge more than 5pp/stack. (especially since they way I figured it out it costs more than that to make a stack...)

/agree xaanru the prices for these and pretty mjuch any other tradeskill supplies are becoming outrageous. people are asking for 20pp a piece for spider silks for gods sake. the economy on norrath makes no sense

As I point out below, my post was in reference ot the market for these in 2001. In today's market, 4-5pp each for these doesn't seem excessive.

The economy on Norrath has very specific flaws: everything revolves around bash'n'cash. Kill monsters, take their stuff. Trade skilling doesn't give you any money, nor does... well anything but fighting monsters.

The economy has rediculous black-holes and limitless supplies in it. You can get an unlimited number of mammoth tusks for example, and sell them to just any merchant who will pay a rediculous price for something that will just sit in their inventory until that NPC is reset. They have infinite gold for buying stupid things from you (yet they won't buy vegetables)

They have absolutely infinite supplies of uber-rare gems, and other trade skill components, yet charge enormous prices. There is no supply and demand at all, except perpetuated by players at some completely unruley methodus that makes no sense.

So, my conclusion is do not ever rely upon everquest's economy to behave as if it were an economy. Hop back on the level treadmill cause that's all there is in the game.

the economy makes perfect sense. no level 65's want to spend the time to farm spiders... so the people who feel it is worth their time to farm spiders end up charing high prices for the silks. it couldn't possibly be any simpler.

Cheap and Easy to make does not mean Cheap for others

I believe this is one of the most profitable brews any brewer can make when they are starting out. Just because people sell them for 2-5pp EACH does not mean it's a ripoff.

You have to figure a few factors into this:

1. How much time and effort people put into their brewing skills.

2. Cost of materials (6-8pp per stack)

3. Time invested in sitting there when the brewer could be out killing Aqua Goblins in Butcher Block for 100pp an hour ;)

I will continue to make and sell reasonably (3-4pp each) as it is a good way for me to pay for my smithing habit (very expensive).

The recipe for these is 2 kiola saps, and one water, plus a bottle. They trivial around 46. I would never pay anyone much for these. I made my first stack of these beginning with 0 skill. By the time I was done, I had spent maybe 10pp in materials, becuase I was failing 80% of the time, but got about 20 skill points in the process. Now, with brewing up to about 150, these cost me about 1pp PER STACK to make, and all materials (except the water, which is easy to get)are available in most taverns that sell beer. I have sold some to people in a hurry for 5pp per stack. anything more is highway robbery.

My friend assures me that Heady Kiolas were vendor sold by Portik Grolam in Timorous Deep as recently as 3 months or so ago?! & yet not a single post here or on Portik's page mentions it? Was he hittin' the ale too hard or what? There's no brewery by Portik, he doesn't sell water, he's the only vendor (in his part of the zone). It doesn't make sense that a few months ago someone would run all the way out to him in TD with a brewer's still & a bunch of water flasks, make a bunch of Heady Kiola's, & then sell them back to him. /boggle I doubt he bothered to check under the quantity to see if there was an amount or two dashes (--) so I didn't bother asking. He also says he found out about this guy when he played way back in '99. Xaanru, you've been around awhile... any idea what he's talking about? lol

Hm. Not sure how you are figuring this, but kiola sap is costing me 1g 4s per, and you need two for the recipe. Water around 1s 3c, and bottles 6c. That works out to about 3g each, which would make a stack cost 6p per stack to create, assuming you didn't have any failures.

And I can't say for anywhere else, but on the Saryrn Server, these go in the Bazaar for 2-5p *each* not per stack. Not complaining though.

My 2c worth...

Well these posts are all ancient, but let me point out, my original post was in 2001, before many of the adjustments to materials prices took place.

Many of these recipes were being exploited by macroers, in order to generate huge sums of PP, so they adjusted the prices so that the finished item always sold back for less than the materials.

Also, there was no bazaar back in 2001. In addition, tradeskill ites sold way cheaper back then. Spiderling silks were 2-5pp a stack, spider silks were 1pp each. The only farmed items that sold for much were HQ bear pelts, and HQ lion skins.

Now, in 2004, I pay 4pp each for heady kiolas without blinking, because I am using them to make whips I sell for 2kpp each. Back in 2001, the best thing you could make with these was cured silk armor, and wu's.

I'm pretty sure the kiola saps cost a few gold each, so you're looking at spending a lot more than 1pp/stack, even at 250 skill (at which there still is a small chance you'd fail this).
