and have only gotten 1 wisker to drop this is stupid! i had no prob on the sirens, manticores, or for the beard, but this is just insanely stupid.

they have been change from common to rare, and they do still drop as of 2/27/05.

I spent two hours this morning in GD soloing these with my Cleric. Soloing with a cleric is painful...and not one dropped. I can hardly wait to hunt the Sirans! Tailoring Trivial of 200-250 posted by another player....is this true?

This was a problem for me. The Drakel wolf wisker is so black that it's hard to see in the loot box. I remember looting a few corpses, thinking they were empty, and wondering why the corpse didn't dis-appear.
Ah, but it's sneakier than that! I know why the corpses don't disappear: it's because of the Low Quality wolf hides that I leave on the corpses because they're not worth looting. So of course it never occurred to me to wonder why the corpses were staying there!
Once I wised up, I went and spent a mere hour in the zone (with 56 cleric, 52 druid), killed 46 wolves, and got 4 whiskers. (Figured I'd get enough for two attempts, just in case!)

I got these in an hour in GD on erolissi marr. I camped near the Wizard Spires, and just sent my pet at them. You guys had me thinking it was gonna take me days :p

If you're a high level druid, wizzie, or other class with pbae spells, these are the quickest way to get your drops. Put up a DS if you have one and run around the zone and aggro as many doggies as you can. After you have a nice large swarm (my biggest was about 20 wolves), run back the spires and press yourself against the edge. Wait for your train to arrive and cast your two biggest pbae spells back to back.
You'll use next to no mana but can expect to lose ~50% of your health depending on HPs, AC, damage avoidance, mitigation, etc. The spawn rate is very quick so there's very little downtime
Yes, this method is ineligant and crude but I got 3 whiskers in 2 pulls (~10 minutes). The extra whisker made another player in the zone very happy. :-)

it may be just a coincedence, but i spent about three hours killing maybe 100-150 wolves one-four at a time, then i read this post, and i scoffed a litte, but i tried it. lo and be hold two pulls later and about 35 wolves later, i have my two whiskers. Maybe its something about mass killing em. like i said though, probably just a coincedence.
These things USED to be common .... Last night I wasted 42 of the wolves in GD after failing my 6th shawl combine .... not 1 whisker dropped.

Got 1 whisker on the 45th wolf and another on the 53rd .... Soooo in therory thats one whisker for every 26.5 wolves

The listing showing here is a load of crap - they are NOT Common!! NOT NOT NOT - I have been killing wolves off and on since I have been able to kill anything in GD, EW, KAEL and anywhere else that Frost Giants and wolves have been living and Whiskers are NOT common drops.
I discovered the secret on these babies.

SECRET IS THIS: Use ALT while ur looting to see all drops so you dont miss whiskers. Did this got 2 whisker in less than 10 kills at spires.

Another way to tell is watch the body after you loot. If you close the loot window and you haven't looted everything (like hard-to-see whiskers), the body will still be there. If you close the window and the body disappears, you got everything.

3 1/2 hours murdering puppies in GD this evening.. not a single whisker (8 steel wraps rotted)

Tailoring: 1 Woven Frost Giant Beard + 2 Siren Hairs + 2 Manticore Manes + 2 Drakkel Dire Wolf Whiskers = Sacred Coldain Thread (Trivial at 148)
Then you use that combine in a second tailoring recipe that has a trivial between 200 and 250.

Have the drops been nerfed? I have killed hundreds of wolves now in GD and haven't seen a one.

I have gotten these on about 1 in 5 wolves after killing about 100 of them. Of course I don't need them now but I'm gonna keep one anyway.
I am firmly conviced the game knows when you are on a quest and WILL go out of its way to ***** you for the items you need. I have found the best way to thwart the game is to know what quests you are going to try for and gather the components well before you get the quest.
In doing things this way I have gotten the first 4 prayer shawls in very little time despite the fact that I didn't find that little dwarf in the snow in the first 13 attempts. Only on the 14th did that runt show his face and not the Death Squad.
