Had it last week-end on the sporali Moldmaster. Con green to my 40 druid. He casted creeping crud, greater healing enveloping root....hit around 70. Not 39, but really undercon :) Hard fight with a 42 pally friend, but thx to dots, we didn't have pb with regen.
I was down in runnyeye last night aiding a guild mate in getting a BA medallion when i kept seeing a moldmaster on my tracking screen. We tracked down the mold master wich conned indif. to me. We started to fight the MM and a defender argos in the fight. Well the MM dies and we were still fighting and the MM turns into a bunch of minni me MM's! they were on the floor attacking us so we killed the defender and then the minni me's. I then looted the Defender and the sword was on him and couldnt tell if it was on the MM as he turned into spores. Gave the sword to a paladin in our guild. So to sum it all up it does drop off the Defenders.
Just an idea try keeping the Defenders in the bridge room seems to me all the drops were reported in that room.
I was in Runnyeye tonight, after only about 5 minutes of sitting in the Sporali room one of these dropped off of a Sporali Gatherer. We camped there for another hour or so, this was the only one that dropped.
Went into to get these for my sk, myself (34 druid at the time) and a 39 ranger. Just stayed invisd and walked up to him. Ranger set to beating him whilst I got the dot goin to offset his regen. Well, forgot to snare him and he took off, and by the time we found him about 15 secs later he had regend to full, luckily my ranger friend and me were at full health and almost full mana, so set into him the second time (with snare this time) and he went down with ease. He dropped the blade and we ported on out. Easy stuff.
Hmmmm, they say that the lvl to attain for most of the items is 20. When i read your comments, i only see people about lvl 30 and up. 3 friends of mine (lvl 21-23, one is 28; Bard, Rogue, Ranger, Wiz) decided to go to hunt in Runneye. Is it possible for us to get some of these items, or are we too low in lvl to handle most of the mobs?
It'd probably be suicide, it drops off the sporali moldmaster who is a lvl 39 mob and i've heard is a bit of an undercon... he can regen to full in approx. 30 seconds and can deal some damage... so... you'd have a better chance training a 2 by 4 to do your laundry...
Of course, some people have reported him being lower lvl. I read a post somewhere that he conned blue to a lvl 30 once so.. /shrug just go there, con him and if he's read grab your ballsacks and RUN!
For starters I've been down here for three hours soloing these litttle buggers. I've killed roughly about 30 or so Defenders so far and haven't seen the Moldmaster yet. I've been following the patterns suggest above and nothing. The number of Defenders I've killed brings up my main point just how common is this Sporali Defender's Blade? Not to common after four hours and around 30 Defender kills. How can you call this common. Hell in all the critters I've killed I've only gotten two items. Words of Absorption and a Carnelian (a gem or stone of some type).

I recieved this weapon after killing a Sporali Defender. I was sitting in the room with two bridges that connect to an island in the center of the room. There is a slightly raised platform on the island. Its the only place I know of that the Moldmaster spawns. I was waiting for the Moldmaster to spawn and decided to kill Defenders in hopes that it might make the Moldmaster spawn faster (no luck there). Well, I killed a Defender and it dropped this sword. And as someone else on this post wrote, the Defender did not look like he had a sword. But I've noticed that about 95% of all the various types of Sporali stay on the third floor. I've only seen the occasional Sporali wander down to the fourth floor (using the ramp near the Lord's spawn), but not very far in until it goes back to the third floor. Well, I hope this helps someone, and I cant tell you about the toughness of the Moldmaster for anyone interested, as I was a lvl 40 druid when I killed him twice (took about half my mana and not much NP at all).
At the time I am typing this I am curremtly sitting outside runneye healing up.
Not too hard at 45. I threw a swarm on him snared to keep him from running & beat him down. He never resisted the 3 Lightnings i cast on him, Nuked with fire so if you can get some better fire resist that would help. He was casting ignite only getting me for 12 a pop with my resists. he had a damage ************** so dispelling might not be a bad idea. counted up & this guy actually has 1800hp......p.s. he droped blade
it DOES drop off of sporali defender's. The shield drops off of gatherers as well, they are just a VERY rare drop. I have looted it myself so i am positive of this.
Re: how hard the Moldmaster is - I imagine a couple in their 30s can take him, the trick really though is to take him fast. He regenerates like you wouldn't believe, and of course can cast healing if he feels like it. My 45th druid died to him once because my sow had worn out, and after frying him to a sliver, he booked, I lost him for just 5 seconds, and when I caught up to him he was waiting for me with full health. I've killed him 3 times now: twice he had zero loot, period, and once he had this blade.
Lets see. I ran into the mold master with a friend. I am a 35 barb warrior and the master conned green to me. My friend and me had gotten separated and it took him (31 warrior) a short time to get to me. I was not quite at full health at the time and I was using an exe axe. Well. I got the critter to under half health, resisted most of its spells (Barbarians are great for mr) and it still killed me and proceeded to try to eat my friend. He managed to zone out into the Gorge. I came back, he handed me his exe cause the moldmaster was still by the Gorge zone beating on a monk and kiling him (the monk was high 20). All 3 of us proceeded to beat on him and a dwarf warrior or cleric joined in. The dwarf died, we other 3 had to zone, and a lvl 58 warrior jumped the moldmaster. He came out to the gorge with about 2 bubbles of health left and said he got the shield and was, of course, cursing underconned critters. the next night, i found two peole in their 30s campin him who said he died easily. Is it possible that there are two version of him that spawn? or did we just real unlucky? Btw, root or snare is very necessary to kill him, cause he runs very, very fast.
Here is my story concerning this disturbing Moldmaster. When I was lvl 39, I went in Runny Eye to see what was being dropped there. I met with this guy and I tried to nuke/tap/dot him with pet to no avail. He finally killed me for I was oom. But, I went back last nite and decided to have a rematch. I am lvl 44 now. So I went to his spawn point. Not being able to track him, I sit down to med when all of a sudden WHACK! I get hit in the back for 50. I get up and my pet is nowhere to be seen. By that time, I am cursing like mad. I try to stand my ground and nuke him, but casting time to too long. Down to 2 bubs of HP out of 820. Then pet comes in. I sit down to mem my DOTs, when I get back up, Moldmaster is desperately trying to flee, his HP dropping like crazy, and still havent got the time to cast a single spell. I barely have time to tap him for 226 and down he goes. Weird. Lvl 39 pet cannot get him down to half health, but lvl 44 pet kills him in a second. Oh well. I got the gloves and the shield this time and got the Sporali Defender on my second kill. I was happy, needless to say.
Don't think there are 2... only killed him once though, but as in most things a well balanced group is better... so maybe the 2 were better equipped to handle his crazy madness. But yes, he is a hard guy with his dmg sheild, and dots.
It's all about taking him down in one fight....this guy has one of the best, if not THE best, healing rates in the game. If you lose him for a few seconds he will most likely be fully healed when you catch him. You must keep constant damage on him. I also hear a rumor that there is a room (perhaps the one he pops in) that he fully heals and cannot be hurt in.....anyone substantiate this rumor?
ok....when runny eye first came out...drop rates were common for just about everything...yea. The emergency patch followed. Drop rates were changed. Allakhazam hasn't updated.
"It's simple, and easy too" (has a corny grin on his face)
I took my 45 ogre shamn down there and went to the mold master spawn piont waited about 20 min and pop i killed him and he droped the sporali defender blade a ruby crown and somthing else cant remember also killed a sporali defender spore and he droped one to since its lore i shouted out for someone to come loot but wasnt hard to get saw like 4 drop while i was down.
3 hours, at least 50 Sporili Defenders.. NO SWORD, not only that, but they drop like no coins and OMG 1 out of 10 may drop words... sigh.. and the camp goes on.
SIGH.... 3 more hours... STILL NO SWORD...... common? you call this common? NO ONE is in this zone, so it's not like i'm getting beat to the sword..... 50 more Defenders and not even loot this time..... ARRRGGGGG!!!!!
I can confirm this sword dropping from a Sporali Defender. I cannot confirm light as a sign that the defender has the blade, as the defender that dropped for me was at the third floor entrance, which is well lit. One important note is that the sword does not show in the defender's hand. So don't look for defenders with swords.
Just letting you Pallys and SK know - dont waste your time hunting the Moldmaster - He sometimes has the blade. However as soem one else on this post said Look for ANY Sporali Defender that is generating Light and he will have one! I spent 3 days trying to get the Moldmaster and was always finding him camped or KS by some filthy 50+ level farmers. Anyway I was moving through the tunnels when my Deadeye spell finished just as a Defender approached and he was illuninating the tunnel walls. I killed him and sure enough - One Sporali Defender Blade is now mine!
And it looks wicked - kind of like a jagged scimitar!

First of all this is supposed to be an information source for the Sporali Blade, not a Monk bashing post. But I had to defend the honor of the Monks. If you guys dont like Monks thats fine, dont play one. But it makes me laugh to hear so called "tanks" put Monks down when often times they are the first to flee from battle when things start to fall apart. IF you would spend some time reading instead of talking crazy you will find that Monks are the best melee class. Thats not me talking but the experts. Now we cant stand there and take tons of damage because of a lack of armor thats true. But what we do well is dish out punishment so quickly that we dont have to take a beating normally. As for feign death you obviously havent used it, beacause if you had then you would know it is a lifesaver. Not only for yourself but for your group as well. When a pull gets add ons as they so often do, FD can save your group from a certain beat down or at least a mad dash to the nearest zone. So in closing I would like to apologize to the paladins and SK who were seeking information on the Sporaldi. And to those who made those childish anti monk posts please grow up.

Thank you Torique, exactly what I was asking for, and figured I would find in this forum. Thanks for taking the time to write extensivly on exactly what to expect. I'm going to bring in a party this weekend and try to camp this thing. Then it's off to get a nice shield. Thanks again.
I was poking around Runnyeye today and saw Moldmaster begin to cast. I immediately ran up a level, frantically trying to find the beast. He spawned (sorry about not getting the exact /loc), just south of the water room with the pit between the two bridges. The room he was in had a wheelbarrow in it. He DoT'd me with creeping crud and tried repeatedly to root me. He wasted all his mana, and time, trying to root me and only ended up hitting me three times for a grand total of 134HP.
Keeping in mind I'm a level 45 Warrior, he went down very quickly without much of a fight. There were four Sporalis in the room with him but they didn't aggro me. This may be a tough fight for the level of character that is actually suppose to be killing down here *grin*.
He dropped this sword. Not a bad weapon, too bad Warriors can't use it or it would be replacing my Brell's Keg Popper until the popper starts to proc.
I killed the Moldmaster, in the same place, about twenty or thirty minutes later, no sword.
Note: I'm a 36 Lvl palidin with some pretty sweet items for my lvl...BUT, this gu wasted me fast. I spent 4 hours clearing the guys roming around the lvl before i decided to start killing the guys at the wagons. (Workers and Gathers mainly) After I kill these guys he spawn by a wagon. I had spent soo much time killing everything else that i was argo to the sporili by now. I saw him casting and when i went in the get him i got jumped by 5 or 6 defenders and other smaller ones. I had to use my Lay of Hands after the pre fight so I went in with full life and half mana. He never got me rooted but did constantly blast me. I seemed to be doing more damage to him with my crested sheild and Ghoulslayer 1hs then he was doing to me......then he started regenerating. I lost my life and he had only lost a 1/4 of his. This is no lvl 20 mob as he supposidly cons. I went back with a 37 ranger and 36 cleric to aid me incorpse recovery hoping he was still there and low and behold he was, and still by my body. Camoflaged before i went in i recovered my corpse and we all attacked it. The cleric had to use blasts to help speed the kill so he cold not regenerate. I had to use my LoH again as other wandering Sporili jumped in. Finally he died and spawned 6 small sporlings. (I knew then that even if we almost kiled each otherin a solo fight and i killed him, these guys would finish me as i tried to recover the item.) In the end we all had less then 2 blue in life and no mana, but I got the denfender, very nice. We killed stuff in the 4th floor for a bit until i read a message. "You don't know what a moldmaster is but you are sure you don't want to meet one alone in the dark." We sprinted to the 3rd floor. Sure enough we found him by a cartbut he despawned as we began to attack it. The same message popped about 2 hours later and as we went to check it out a lvl 51 shadowknight had killed it. I asked whathe dropped and he said gloves. He didn't have the sword in his hand but said he had recieved the sword before. He told me that we wouldn't want to fight him when he had the gloves on. Oh we'll just giving you my 2 cent. P.S. the guy also said that the spawn was NOT in the briged room either, and he cleared the guys around to wagons to make him force spawn.
I come here to check out this sword because it is very nice for my primary 23 SK, and then scroll down to see if I can get some advice for getting my hands on one. Nothing like that here, just uber-twink talk, d00dism, and the 40+ forces of "reason" against it. When did this sword become bad equipment for a lvl 20ish SK? And when did this game only start at lvl 50? Jeesh. Does anyone have any relevent info on the best way to quest for this sword? Who does it drop off of most regularly? How often does one drop? Will finding this sword take so much time and effort and so much redundency that I quit playing? I could care less if I use bash or not if this char ever gets as high as lvl 50, or if he could "properly tank" then... Any SK or Pally wanting this sword wants it because it looks like one of the nicer weapons you can aquire for yourself in the 20's. Save these rants for the proper forums, or for that empty chair your wife used to sit in before she left you while you were XPing for lvl 55.
Why are you guys ******** about classes when this post area is about the Sporali Defender's Blade. Man, you guys are weird and obviously off yer rocker ;)
