Unless the loot tables are messed up on TLP, there is a new mob that will drop this, although I would guess it would be considered ultra rare. Just looted one off of a Pickclaw Slayspell.
This item is a must-have for all of my spell-casting characters (whom all happen to be below 44).
-The AC isn't dreadful (6) -The INT/WIS is not shabby for a neck item (+5/+5) -MPII is a great focus effect There's no recommended level!
I have looted them off of Paluk, Lord Pickclaw, and Unak. Lord Pickclaw and Unak seem to have them more commonly. Also sells occasionally in bazaar for 300-500 platinum.
This is dropped off of the 3 mobs in Runneye: Lord Pickclaw, Battlewizard Unak, and Battlelord Paluk. All of these spawn at the 10 spots that the Pickclaw Destroyers do(In other words the destroyers are PH, or placeholders for the named mobs) The wizard is a strong undercon so be careful if you have low hitpoints, take him out fast. The battlelord is easy, but he has such a good reputation, nearby pickclaws will most likely join in the fight. And last but not least, the easiest of the three, Lord Pickclaw. One more thing, the Pickclaw Zekspeakers are healers and do a damn good job pissin you off when you're fighting other pickclaws. So, good luck to you, and while you are in Runneye, might as well kill the Evil Eye Prisoners for some Polished Bone crap. I would not suggest hunting in Runneye till 20+.
As of today this still drops...I was fooling around and decided to head over to Runneye to see if the medallion would drop and all three named were up...Dropped off Lord Picklaw.

I was in Runnyeye last night and couldn't find these "named" mobs anywhere on track...I went to all levels (I believe)...I guess it doesnt matter since you guys have had success with other "regular" spawns. Any info would be great =)
As of yesterday this still drops, I ran my warrior down to runnyeye to get one for my new druid. I went to the spot where Battlewizard Unak usually spawns and killed PH and waited. While waiting I noticed "Battlewizard Unak begins to cast a spell" but there was no mob in front of me. I ran around a bit and finally found him, killed him and looted it.
So to answer your question, Yes, the nameds do still show up and this does still drop =)

This item is great I have to admit, but when some people buy it, they are buying it for the MPII effect. I just want to point out another VERY easy to get MPII item.
Fine Antique Ring MAGIC ITEM LORE ITEM NO DROP AC: 3 HP: +30 Mana: +20 Focus Effect: Mana Preservation II
This quest is very very easy and can be done at almost any lvl. The quest starts in PoK and is linked below.
The antique ring is great for mana effect but there is a secret behind the Black Alloy Medallion. Yes you could spend hours upon hours fighting giants for money. Or you can get up bright and early and camp the battlemaster and wizzy and loot as many of these things as you want. Twink your low level characters withem or sell them for 400pp a pop in Bazaar. The choice is yours!! P.S. Mana and HP are good, but Wisdom and Intellagence are great!
2 items with MP2 on them will not stack, you will not save twice as much mana. If you meant you are after the INT on it, get one of the polished quartz necklaces made with LDoN jewelcrafting.
This is mainly for the effect, like the first guy said.
Was surprised to have this drop off a Picklaw Slayspell in Runnyeye. While the item is an anticipated drop off higher level mobs in this zone, it was interesting to find it on a mob that's around level 18.
It drops off the casters (slayspell, zekespeaker) as well as Lord Picklaw, Battlelord Paluk, Battlewizard Unak and even the occasional destroyer. Still, it's not exactly common. I've spent a fair amount of time soloing down there as an over-44 necro to get horse-money, but the most I've seen it drop, personally, is twice in a 2 hour farming spree (which is about 3 spawn cycles of the named and destroyers). I've looted and sold maybe 10 of them over a couple weeks.
That price is low now that it's got MPII on it - these things go in the bazaar now for 1k+ - atleast on Xev - it's a great peice of gear though, well worth buying, my chanter wouldn't give her's up for the world!
So if you find one for under 1K, snatch that sucker up - you got a steal.
I caught a guy selling 5 of these in the Bazaar at 100pp each. I almost couldn't believe it. Yes they were the ALLOY. Bought them all, kept 2 and resold the others for 300pp each.
I still think 500pp is too much, even though this is one of the best mid-level neckpieces in the game.
I was about to buy one in the bazaar for 1k, but as I was on my way to the trader, I checked angain and someone had it for 500pp. I would have paid 1k, but didn't.
Overall, the BAM, no question. Affliction Haste is theoretically better when you need to get a ROOT off faster between hits to run away, but that's a much rarer situation than all the rest of the casting you'll be doing.
The BAM hands down - with the Talisman you're only getting 20 mana - when that's used up, you're done.
With the BAM, you've effectively increased your mana pool by 10% - at 20th level that translated into an extra 70 point nuke if I tried to just nuke something to death - it's probobly more like 100-200 by 30th.
Really depends on how you play your character. For my druid, I like the chrysoberly talisman. Of course, my preferred tactic right now is the snare/root/dot/sit method, so I get faster roots and dots, so more time to med, and less chance of being cuaght when root breaks, as it recasts faster. Since Shamen have a lot of dots, this might be true for you as well, if you solo a lot.
In a group, the mana preservation is much more important, as you'll be spending a lot of time buffing melees.
I must agree with you... as a 40 Shaman who Solo's quite a bit. The Talisman and the Kobold hide boots (Extended Affliction II) make it more worth my while... although I am looking for a Mana Pres that will fit another slot. =)

The Black Alloy Medallion, because of the wis stat. As you go up in levels, the extra wis gives you more mana, with the other, you just get the one drop of mana. Stick with the medallion.
OK, this is what I have noticed how the BAM drops in RE. I have farmed this zone for hours upon hours and have killed enough goblins for several lifetimes!
The only 3 Mobs that have dropped the BAM for me are Lord Pickclaw, Battlewizard Unak, and Pickclaw Slayspells... I have never seen the drop off the Battlelord and I have killed him 100+ times easy. Seen it three times off Slayspells and I must say that is a very rare drop. Pre Focus Effect they dropped like candy off the Battlewiz and Lord.... now camping there post focus the drop rate has been really nerfed.
I went there at level 44 hoping to get a BAM for my Cleric twink. Went straight for Unak's room, and agroed a few things on te way. Killed 2 slayspells, 2 foechoppers, and some other random crap. Killed Unak, and got the BAM on my first kill.
I went down to the bottom of Runnyeye in hopes of getting a BAM at lvl 35-ish but the zone was camped by a couple of high lvls. I ran around killing stuff just for the fun of it. Finally got a chance at Battlelord but he didn't drop the BAM .. dropped a BABS instead.
At anyrate he never popped again in a few hours so on the way it I killed some stuff. If you look at EQ Atlas , 4th lvl map. there is a diamond shaped room on the lower part of the map. There was a caster mob in there (don't remember his name) but you can imagine my surprise when there was a BAM on him instead of a piece of armour.
So if you in search of a BAM in Runnyeye then just kill all the stuff on the 4th floor and don't wait for Named mob.

That was probably a Slayspell. The BAM used to be a ultra-rare drop off them. From the sound of it it still is and you got lucky. I had heard after the focus patch the drop rate had been nerfed on the BAM. It rocks now even more than before. My druid was wearing one before the patch and due to the mana pres 2 he still wears it at 45. No clue when he will dump it but he won't let it go for less than 1k now. Sold some prepatch for 750. Here's to wishing I'd waited to sell them.
I spent a few weeks in East Karana farming pelts and silks, and would run to Rivervale to bank, going thru Runnyeye. My 40 Ranger would run into Runneye, check tracking, and if any of the 3 named goblins were up I'd go take them down. I must have killed BattleLord Paluk, BattleWizard Unak, and Lord Pickclaw a couple of dozen times each over that last month or so (between the big May and June patches).
The BAM dropped only once, off Lord Pickclaw. It's the only thing I really care about in the zone, as it sells for 1500pp on the FV server, and they're not lore. One of the sweetest mid-level items in the game IMHO, and one of the most expensive (pre-lvl 40 that is). I must have gotten several of each armor piece, most common being the Coif (lore, sadly), then the BA Tunic, then the rest of the stuff. The BABS and BALS, jeez, I can't even begin to guess how many of those I left rotting (I play late at night, usually the only person in zone). The BAM is by far the rarest drop here as far as BA armor and weapons go, and certainly the best caster item to come off a 30-35 lvl mob that I've seen.
You should take those BABS, BALS, and BA Coifs to the goblin merchants in zone .. use sneak and sell them instead of letting them rot. You can make around 100p for the coifs and 5-9 (I forget) for the swords. Then dump the cash in the bank that is in zone too ;)
Dropped Battlewizard Unak today he put up a good fight. Easy to drop his health to 40% but then he will heal constantly. Had a 35th lvl Cleric and a 38th lvl Warrior. Pretty much walked to him and dropped him. Nothing else will aggro except Evil Eye, but he can be easily avioded if you are careful. First time we killed him he dropped the Black Alloy Medallion. If you go with a Cleric and a Warrior get his health to 40% and have the Cleric wrath him, he won't be able to recover after the wrath. Warrior was in full crafted armor with a Centi LS and a Lammy with a FBSS.
Seems since the UI patches that the BA Medallion is a lot rarer than before. It used to drop off Battlewizard Unak almost every time you killed him, but not since this last patch series - I've whacked Unak a bunch of times and seen no BAM's at all.
Anyone else see this?
Also, for those who want to try him, Unak is about level 34-35 and can chain-nuke for 180-250 a shot. Good MR/CR/FR helps, but be careful if you're under 50.
The other mob that used to drop the BAM a few times was Battlelord Paluk, who is also a mid-30's mob, though he's pure warrior. Haven't seen a BAM off him either since the UI patch series. Tunare server.
I've actually had three drop in the last two days, one off the battle wiz and two off of slayspells. Before that it did seem that they dropped a lot less.
Hoping someone can help me out since I'm new to this zone. What lvl is the mob that drops the BAM? and what mob for that matter? Hope there are some nice people out there that will let me know.
The Black Alloy Medallion drops off of Lord Pickclaw, I think he is level 32-33 and an under con. He spawns in diferent rooms on the bottum level(4). Don't go alone if your are not an expert at crowd control.

just wanted to let you know as of today March 4 2002, i was there in RE and Killed my First Slayspell Dropped the Bam, Killed the Lord ... dropped the Bam and arms (alloy) went and killed the Battle Wizard, Dropped another Bam, 15 minutes 3 Bams, 1 arms, a tunic, (and Gloves from a Destroyer that agroed on the way to the Wiz, after about 4 hours in there i found out that the DESTROYERS, SLAYSPELLS, LORD and WIZARD, are the ONLY ones that Drop Any Alloy Stuff AT ALL, the others RARELY drop the Iron, just wanted to let you all know...BTW i am a 48 Monk, Mend and FD are God Sends when Fharming Loot for your level 4 Ranger 8) 8)
I have gotten alloy off of a foechopper, although it was a fairly crappy piece (shoulders), and most of the time you get nothing, with occasional blackened iron. So at least one piece of alloy is possible from foechoppers.
I came to runnyeye to find some BA legs for my SK. I killed several gobs while I was there. I found a BAM on a Slayspell as well. Never did see the legs though. Also looted a BA coif of Lord.
I have noticed an Ability of the Black Alloy Medallion CGS that is not Listed on the Medallion. The Black Alloy Medallion CGS acts as A Light Source! Though I am not sure if it is equal to a GLS, it is pretty Close. After I discovered this, my druid stopped carrying a GLS and to carry another Backpack.
Maybe some of you other Black Alloy Medallion owners, might want to test to see if the Black Alloy Medallion acts as a Light Source. Access tunnels to RV, SFG or BB are easy places to test it as a light source.
I second that. It is a light source. Seems as bright as any weapon/shield light source I've had (I think like Ghoulbane, cracked darkwood shiel, and some others).
I know this will sound ridiculous but I have been farming Runnyeye with a 51 Ranger for about 5 weeks. Everything is green to me. The loot here is not too bad considering there is very little risk. I have to be careful though, if a named and a couple casters a healer and another melee or two all gang up on you, even at 51 you will die. Once you know the zone, know the aggro range, know the safe spots and the spawn points you can start to do all right. The gobbies drop about 50-60pp per hour total in just plat, words, runes, Black iron stuff etc. You can sell to the merchants if yu have sneak and you can bank there also.
I estimate, including selling time, that I take out about 100pp / hour, probably a bit more.
I have never seen a medallion drop off of a Slayspell and I have spent well over 100 hours there.
I have had 3 drop off of Battlewizards and I have killed at least 25 or 30 of them
I have had about 7 drop off of Lord Picklaw and I have killed him probably 75 times or so.
I can sell them with a little effort on Xegony for 400-450p. They are a VERY nice WIS neck item for Druid, Shammy, Cleric. In fact, my ranger wore one at 51 for a while, until I got a spider fur collar :)
The medallion is slightly less rare than the Black Alloy Coif. It is slightly more rare than the Grotesque Alloy Mask. Black Alloy Sword are common and you have to sell for dirt cheap despiet the bastardsword having pretty decent 2H stats. Swords and coif are lore, as is the sporali defenders blade off of the Moldmaster.
it's real easy to die an embarassing death in this zone. Underestimate your foe and you will die eventually. Sporemaster is another UNDERCON. he waxed me at 54. I still go in there and murder him for revenge on a regular basis. :)
Ack, lvl 21 shammy here wondering why it says u can pick up at lvl 20 ,but every post is 35 or up?I guess i should go to runnyeye and take a look fer myself, as always PST)we'll hunt BA all night)

~~~~~~~~~ "you lack the skill to create this item![metal bits]"(repeat 7x)
They are a quasi-rare drop off of the Spell Slayers, Battlewizard Unak, and Lord Pickclaw. Some nights I have gotten as many as 4 in about 2 hours, other nights none. They are more common than any single other piece of desirable loot down there though, not counting the basic BA armor
Just killed the Battle Wiz three times and Lord Pickclaw twice last night. Got assorted BA weaps and armor, but only one medallion in 4+ hours. The EQ Atlas maps are dated in that there are no static spawn points for these mobs. That and you lose your apprehensive status with the gobs there farily quickly once you kill one of them with a few groupies around that attack you. Makes it pretty tough when 8 greens attack you, some with backstabbling abilities.
So, one day camping these and can say they are not so common as people think (though I got mine :) ) and you can die farily quickly with the groupies around and all the wandering adds. Lost half my party that way and I gated out with less than a sliver of health left. Ouch. Good luck you try to go there... my 2cp
This nice neckpiece dropped off of a named wizard on the lowest floor "Battlewizard Unak". Killed Unak about 4 times before this dropped. He can nuke up to 240, and puts up a decent fight if he cons blue to you. We had a group with a tracker, and basically we were just cutting down everything with a name before non-trackers knew they were even up :) I do however agree with the previous post...the loot there is random, but my guess would be that it will be less random by killing Unak himself. The piece was a happy upgrade from my Goblin Soul Caller.
I had this drop for me last night off of a Pickclaw Slayspell of all things. Couldn't believe it ! The other warrior helping me hunt was pretty amazed too. We had taken out the Battlewiz earlier, but nothing dropped. We took out the Moldmaster, no blade or anything. We were bummed. I started to think Verant nerfed the changes they had made to RE until, "CHA-CHING!" one of these medallions drops from a friggin Slayspell. They are now on my endangered species list ! heheh.
Happy Hunting y'all.
ya at 40 he still cons blue and gives xp woot!!! killed him 3 times nothing dropped, killed him 3 times again...3 medallions!!!! at least i got 2 blue bubs of xp in hell from there, giving these things away to friends, i like to mess around when i am in hell level so i love RE, even though it still can be a little dangerous if there is no one in there killing mobs. LoH is really nice to have in there, otherwise if you get a couple slayspells, and unak on you well.... seen a 54 ranger get wiped out in less than 5 mins there, just have to be careful but good loot for 20 -35.!!
#Mortiss,
Posted:Jun 20 2001 at 11:55 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) I went to Runny eye last nite, im lvl 39, and I hunted there for almost an hour, when I noticed that none of the mobs would drop a single coin or item... Stupid bitch Verant nerfed the zone so I could not get that pretty nice +5 win int and 6AC head gear. What a bunch of stupid lamers... I pay for this sh*t and they deny me the right to play in some area... How @#%^ing lame!!! Way to go Verant sh*t!
Personally I don't think he meant that the zone had Warrens loot rules....if he did then i pity the human race for harboring such a soul for this long of a time. There is no such looting rule to the new Runny Eye. I suggest to Mortiss that he pay attention to EQ when he sits down to play EQ and turn off his pop culture bliss of a television channel (otherwise known as MTV). I'm lvl 39 as well and before the "emergency patch" i had 7 of these bad boys slip through my hands...gave them all away because they were as common as sludge coming from an Ogre's oraphus. The only change now is that the drops are a bit more rare...so just take your medication for your Attention Defacet Disorder and you'll do fine.
That is strange. My understanding is the new warrens loot rules would not be placed into existing zones but would possibly be used in the new expansion. I will have to go check this out. It would suck as I could use the black alloy medallion for a wisdom boost. Guess Verant wants us to have to buy it from lower lvl players.
Me and my friend found the battle wizard near the bank I was just gonna sit back and let this con blue at 31 to me get eaten alive by my lvl 40 buddy turned out the wizard has a few nukes up his sleeve that hurt real bad. Luckily me the lvl 31 wizard got to stun the punk and nuke him to death, my lvl 40 friend was rather embarrased. Anyone thinking about taking on the wizard I'd suggest having a buddy around, just in case.
The blackened alloy waistband (AC 7, wt 2.0, no stat bonuses) and the blackened alloy bracer (AC 8, wt 1.5) also drop (not listed here as of this posting). But from what I can tell there is no blackened alloy upgrade of the blackened iron eye totem, collar, or boots. As before, there is no blackened earring or ring. Anyone who knows different please post here.
Ok, the collar has been found. It's AC 7 and weight 1.5. Now we just need the blackened alloy eye totem and the blackened alloy boots and our upgrade list will be complete.
Finally went in there with my druid for the first time since patch. Man, I've never seen so many people of fairly high lvl in there. I remember being the only one in there at times. If they were going for higher use they got it. But, if they were expecting parties of people to go in there to adventure, forget it...the whole place was pretty much cleared out.
yup my group got three in the span of about 4 hours the other night...was before "emergency patch" tho, so maybe they nerfed it. We never could catch the Wizzie guy (there were ALOT of people in RE that night) but we got the Lord a few times and he had the medallion every time.
Intelligence effects your overall skill ups, wisdom generally doesn't unless your working on a tradeskill in which case the higher of the two comes into play as the determining factor for skill ups, so if you want to raise your beg skill quickly then up your int, if you want to raise your smithing, do either.
#WARFORMAR,
Posted:Jun 20 2001 at 9:06 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) Strength determines your smithing skill not int or wis just like dex determines your fletching skill. Every other skill uses wis and int though.
When working on a tradeskill, the higher of wis or int determines how fast you gain a higher skill.
Your respective skill determines your amount of successes. Furthermore smithing, tailoring and fletching have secondary stats that add to the succes-rate formula. Those stats are respectively strength, dexterity and dexterity.
As far as I know these are the only three tradeskills with a secondary stat and I believe this was confirmed at the recent fan faire.
Actually, it's dependant on your class. If you are a WIS based caster, you'll benefit from the wis in skill up for normal and trade skill. If you're an INT you'd use the INT.
Wis will not help an INT caster, INT will not help a Wis caster, except in tradeskill, where it is based off the higher of the two. Generally it depends on your class as to which will be higher. For instance, I know two Ogre Warriors that are smiths. one has high INT, the other has high WIS. Both skill up about the same.
Actually you've got most of it right among a couple of the posts but technically, regardless of whether you are an int or wis based caster, EITHER the highest of your int or wis will affect trade skills, it's just that it is usually easier for wis casters to work on wis items and int casters to work on int items. The myth that int affects skill and wis affects success has been strong since the beginning of EQ but has been publicly denied by Verant in a few official statements along with being denied at at least one of the fan fares. It does seem that int and not wis still affects learning of languages though, but that's only from my personal experience and hasn't been tested very thoroughly.
Actually, to the one that said that wis helps with successes on any skill and int helps determine skill raises... this has already been disproven on the official EQ boards a while back. The reason why everyone used to say that the above garbage was true is because of the so-called official Prima guide.
#Anonymous,
Posted:Jun 01 2001 at 8:11 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) I am not completely clear on what you are trying to say, but if it is INT aids skill raises, then that is correct.
OK We know that the higher of the two determine if you raise your skill. But is it true (I've heard both) that wis determines if you SUCCEED in creating that item. I was playing around with jewelcraft the other day and I failed in creating items alot. I put on a couple more wis items and my fail rate dropped considerably. Now this could have been pure luck, but I don't know. Where would we find an official ruling on this? Not just players saying "I heard this..." or "I read that...". Honestly curious so I can put an end to this debate in my mind.
Again, the closest thing to an "official" statement from Verant are the comments made by Yakatizma. See the "FAQ" section on the EQtrader message board (go to www.eqtrades.com then follow the link to the EZboard).
To summarize,
the Higher of INT or WIS is what affects your chance to raise a skill. For smithing, high STR also gives a bonus; for fletching and tailoring, a high DEX gives a bonus.
Only the Skill level (not stats) affects the chance of successfully making an item, with about a 3% minimum success rate even when you are WAY below the required skill, and a similar failure rate when you are WAY above the "trivial" skill.
I'm a lvl 54 Paladin and last night while in RE I ran into the Pickclaw Lord. He was a bit tough compared to the rest but I could solo him with no buffs and heals. He dropped the BAM, the new BIBS (which has better damage/delay than Soulfire) and a new BI bracer. Therefore, the Lord drops this nice neck piece too.
actualy i seen this thing drop about 8 times in a 4 hour period with rates this high who cares if it isnt lore itll be so common it wont cost much more then a BI medallion so farming it wont be very helpful when you can make more money farming HGs without the hassle of having to sit in EC auctioning all day
