The Black Dwarf

Just picked up a set of this stuff within the past few days (non-stop, mind you). Been killing anything that moved and wasn't named. Got most BA armor off of Pickclaw Destroyers, with the Coif, Mail, and Girdle off of Lord Pickclaw himself (with a lot of help, of course). Thanks Shanluk, for the assist. ;)

Been seeing quite a few BABS on the gobbies as well, mostly Destroyers, but also some of the lessers on 4. Not to mention the 1hs BA as well, which isn't all that bad to me and my ignorance of most higher end items. First time I'm grabbing a full set of anything, so its a fine day when this Black Dwarf goes strolling through the city in his new suit... Safe travels, folks...

I've been hunting here for a total of 20 hrs now. I've seen BA arms, legs, collars, bracers, both swords, waistbands. I've yet to see girdle and mail and spaulder. I don't know if those r the rare drops of all the BA, but i'm staying here till I get it all. And oh, if u just would like BI armor, it drops in spades off of all the mobs on the 4th lvl. BA only drops (for me at least) off of destroyers, veterens and named mobs (lord pickclaw, battlelord paluk, battlewizard unuk).

And as a side note about farming. On prexus server, i've never seen more than 4 or 5 people in the zone at any given time. And those people r roughly my lvl with the odd 50+ thrown in for flavor. This stuff just doesn't seem to have the appeal it once had when it first came out. I don't know why, it is ideal for mid lvl twinking by players such as myself, (I am a completely self made player, bought or fought for everything i have) I almost have the full suit for my wee woodelf ranger. Gonna stay here untill i get the whole thing..

And reference trains. The trickiest part is clearing the 4th floor. Once that is done, it's almost clear sailing. Haven't been trained on by more than 3 (all little itty bitty green guys, not much problem) Just remember that the only ones above 23 are the named mobs. A slayspell can get annoying if he lands his nuke for 107, but that's the most i've taken in one shot. Otherwise it's low 30's to single digits.

This stuff does look pretty cool on a troll sk, i already got a full set for myself. The weight is great. (I run outta inventory space before i get encumbered with a unbuffed str of 134)

Happy hunting and stay safe

If it is that rare, I guess I was lucky to get one. I got one off of a Picklaw Destroyer right at the Gorge zone on the first floor. Gave it to my brother, who's a bard (in exchange for his banded mail, which I'm selling). Has a nice look to it, and is more weight efficient than banded, but not quite as good as plate. Nice little item.
New Armor??
# Jul 06 2001 at 12:25 PM Rating: Default
I'm guessing this must be a relatively new addition, because about 3 months ago (maybe a little longer) everyone was going absolutely nuts for BI armor. It was obviously a fashion show, because BI armor has lousy stats, with the exception of the crown (or coif) and maybe the belt, but that's iffy. Stats on BA seem a little better, but I'm still not too impressed. Just a little food for thought -- why is it goblins can forge all this armor, and yet they can't even wear pants? Say "no" to goblin crack.

Kunark goblins have much more decorum, and actually wear a loincloth high enough to eliminate the "crack" problem. Being on Kunark must do them good, as they always seem more robust and powerful at a given level as the equivalent Antonican goblin. The Antonican goblins have a wider variety of casting skills (just on the first two floors I've seen shaman, wizards, enchanters, and clerics) than the mostly shamanistic Kunarkian goblins, but Kunark goblins seem to be more powerful casters.

uh.... I know I'm just a level 12 newbie, but isn't this just banded with one more ac and .5 less weight? So why is this worth 50pp? I wouldn't pay more than 20. Banded is 1pp per ac, so this (if it was banded but it basically is except looks cool) would be 16pp, and I think 4pp for .5 weight is kinda expensive, but hey, some people are crazy.
RE: um....
# Aug 10 2001 at 10:26 AM Rating: Decent
BA is 1 point higher in AC, .5 less in weight AND magic... banded is not magic. It is my experience that the more MAGIC armour you're wearing the higher the possibility of partial resists to any DD spells cast on you. Also, magical boots allow any kicking class to kick magical creatures such as wisps and ghouls, and magical gloves allow the large races, with innate slam, to slam a wisp or ghoul when not using a magical shield or any shield at all
RE: um....
# Aug 24 2001 at 3:35 PM Rating: Decent
Uh... Are we sure about this? My 17 Troll SK has magic sleeves, shield & Gauntlets (I actually traded for Sentient! =)...but I can't slam the ghouls in EC or WC. It states ther're invulnerable. I'll test once I get magic shoulders and boots.

If you have a magic shield, use bash. It will work on magic only mobs. Once you get magic shoulders, you will be able to slam.

Bash=Offhand shield
Kick=feet
Slam=shoulder

Sleeves have no attack capability, and gaunts will only help if you are fighting hand-to-hand.

Hope this helps.

BTW, the Mail has only 1 more ac than banded, but legs and arms have 2 or 3 more each. I got the mail for my warrior, mainly to match the arms and legs, plus weight reduction of full set is nice. Also, bronze (seems to be about the same ac as BA), is 2pp per ac and heavy as an anchor.
RE: um....
# Oct 30 2001 at 12:06 PM Rating: Default
Put a Lightstone or Greater Lighstone in your off-hand. This will make Slam a magic attack.

Banded is a crafted item, so thus, fairly easy to get. Blackened Alloy is a camped item and thus, not so common. (A) People pay for the look (B) People WILL pay more for the lighter weight and extra AC. Generally, after Banded/Bronze armor, the price curve on armor goes WAY up.

Would anyone know homw much one of these blackened alloy breastplates cost? I didn't see any prices listed, but I could have missed it. Personaly, I could use something better than banded plus I think I'd look rather dashing in black.

Reference the post made by a player suggested that BA armor won't hurt the market for crafted goods.

1) Verant put trade skills in as an after-thought.
2) Verant doesn't encourage player-made items because it "diminishes player interaction ", i.e. group camping.
3) I started playing on Saryrn Server when it was brand new. Nobody had cleaned out the Dungeons of Kunark yet and you could easily demand, and get, 2pp per AC on Bandedmail. You can't give it away now. ( truly !! I sell-low end items like that to merchants just to cut into the market glut.)
4) Granted that the trade skills for homemade armor got alot better after the big patch a few months ago, BUT Verant is NEVER gonna allow players to make items even matching what you can get at the levels of expertise it takes to craft items. Take Brellium armor for example. Arguably, when its enchanted and imbued, its the best player amde armor around, but you have to be VERY high level just to get, and/or buy the items to make it. Trivials in the 250 range !!!!
5) I'm on your side. I'd love nothing better than for Verant to make this a simulation rather than mindless-D&D-hack-n-slash. (course most of the d u m b a s s teenagers would play even more poorly than they do now)
6) as a side note, please learn the diference between there/their/they're, and where/were/we're, and than/then, and your/you're.

#REDACTED, Posted: Jun 19 2001 at 12:26 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) I agree with the fact that EQ is a Hack and Slash only game. The only way to gain levels is to kill mobs. Stupid if you ask me. Take a cleric, running around healing and ressurrecting peeps will maybe make some cash, but no exp, unless hes in a group. So lemme explain this, being alone, healing people gets you no exp, but be in a group, dont even take a single hit at a mob, and you gain exp... Verant should think about firing some of its employees for having an IQ of 40 and under... Laughable... UO has a better skill system than EQ. As for There, Their, They're and such, hehe that too I agree with you. Im a crappy Canadian like you Americans like to call us (i've experienced this in summer camps in USA). I am French Canadian, so english is not my primary language. Still I can make the difference between those... So I think it's funny to see you guys who only have to learn english (and let's face it, even a retarded chimp could learn english), cannot write it correctly.
RE: Camp or Craft
# Oct 12 2001 at 12:13 AM Rating: Decent
A retarded chimp could learn english? ummm...No. English is one of the hardest languages in the world, due to the fact that it's basically a bastarized language. I was born and raised in America, so I like the language, but do you realize how many other languages it incorporates? A lot of phrases make no sense in the way they are spoken. Ask anyone from another country how hard it is to learn english, it's not easy at all.

Wrong!!! I have yet to see people who really Role play their characters. Most ogres speak with childish vocabulary, but hmm... I have seen halfling clerics that have lower int than an ogre shaman and yet the halfling could use more than 4 letters in a single word... Go figure...

its more weight, my banded mail has only 5.0 weight. maybe this would be better than large banded, but i think small (if you can wear it) is better.
SMALL Banded?

If someone wants to have fun with this game by decking themselves out in some stylish armor, I say they've got a lot better idea of how to enjoy EQ than someone who whines about getting the latest uber armor with all the stat bonuses and effects. This game was a lot more fun when it didn't take 60 of you closest friends to be able to fight in a zone where you have to get the one rare drop that will let you finish out your set of purple polka-dotted armor with "all the great ac, stat bonuses, saves and extra hp/mana." Grow up. It's just a game.

ok what was your message good for .. these post are to give players with information on the armor to people who dont know about how the armor looks or how good it goes with a certain class. People like you who get on and decide they need to whine about how people play a game are more up-tight than people who wanna make an awesome characters with good stats. So unless youve got something to say about the new blackend alloy mail then dont post anything please.

At least he's not hiding behind an Anonymous label. Plus I agree with his point. Just beacuse SOME players don't like this armor because it is only "slightly" better than banded, doesn't mean that those who like it for looks are wrong.

Also, Everyone keeps comparing this to MEDIUM banded, and saying "it's only .5 less weight." Note however, it fits large races, and for them, its quite a bit lower.

I can't believe that you teenie punks are so into appearance over substance that it even extends into EQ world. How totally pathetic.
