This became available on Mangler TLP server with the release of the Scars of Velious expansion. Should probably update the item to be Velious instead of Original... I wasted time running down to the vendor during Kunark and he didn't sell it.

...and I like them alot.

For approx 5.3k I can get SoW whenever I want when I'm outside. Beats camping an Ancient Cyclops which may never spawn and chasing after Hasten who I think I saw zipping down the trail in RM once. I can now skip the Run3 when I DING 50/51 and concentrate on other stuff. Sure, it's ten levels which may or may not pass quickly but I may be soloing slowly.

I did this when I was lvl 40 and the only bad thing was carrying the 150lbs of liquid asset from Nektulos to SolA. None of the SolA Goblins were blue but some of the casters saw me and thought I was an easy mark with all the plat I was carrying. Fools!

(% is over base run speed)

Run3 is 30%
Jboots and Travlers boots are 35%
Run4 is 40%
SoW is 55% ONLY if casted by a L50+ toon

Ya, SoW is better. Ya, boots are not useful if you have run3. However, I don't want to wait that long to have unlimited charges of Run3. My chanter main has Run3 already but my baby necro does not have any run mod. Regen AA's are more useful than Run3 (if I have a click) on a necro. These boots are far more useful than waiting for Run3 or buying SoW pots or Harassing rangers.

I think it is faster than run3, when he said like sow I think he meant he has a speed buff that helps not that it is the speed of sow.

i find it highly unlikely that someone has that many 70's with that many aa's each. thats well over 1k probally added up that char would have the most aa's in eq. Also someone really has no life.

The problem is not your race, it is your religion. You need to kill kill kill in Nagys layer to up your faction. I spent an hour in there with my SK and had no trouble buying tinks bags.

these boots have been this price since before you could level past 60 and before AAs were introduced. The mentality was: If you want them bad enough, you'll save the money. Same with tink bags.

If you look for potions on the bazaar, most likely you can find potions called "essesnce of ....". These will cast an illusion on you, making you appear to be whatever race the essence is of. A single potion shouldn't cost you much more than 100 - 200 pp (not sure on your server prices).

JBoots Vs. TBoots
# Jan 18 2004 at 1:20 PM Rating: Decent
I fell there is no big diffrence between these two. Sure JBoots you can cast on the run, which is a luxury, but as long as you cast TBoots before battle or zoning in or what not you should be fine.

I disagree on two points. Some mobs DISPELL your buffs. So 1) If you are trying to run from a mob, or kite one (wizards), and it casts cancel magic and removes your tboots spell, you have to stop and recast, and hope it doesn't catch up. With jboots just keep running, click and back in business.

Also, some mobs AOE dispell. when killing those mobs, a ZERO cast time clicky buff is very helpful to protect your good buffs. Usually you stack in a few (3 or so) junk buffs, the first being the clicky, and you reclick every time its dispelled. If the clicky has a cast time, its hard to rebuff, while moving to stay in melee range of the mob, and being knocked around by AOE spells. If you are the MT, the zero cast time is even more important, as you CANNOT get a spell off while being pounded, if you are a warrior, with zero channeling skill. Jboots cannot be interrupted.

Jboots>tboots, by a lot!

I'm Sticking w/ Sow Potions
# Jul 20 2003 at 3:16 PM Rating: Decent
A 10 charge sow potion costs 90pp on my server (often you can get it for 80-85). 5500 divided by 90 = 61.

Sow lasts 36 minutes, so thats 360 minutes per 10 shot potion. 61 10shot potions is 21,960 minutes or 366 hours of Sow (or 15 days, 6hrs).

So, for the same money, you can get 366 hours of SOW using potions. And, because you're often grouped with Sow classes or at least are near a sow class that doesn't mind casting one on you for free, you can usually get sow without using your potion. By saving your potion for when you need a sow and noone is around, 61 potions will last you at least twice the 366 hours.

Long story short, a 5500pp investment can keep you sowed almost 100% of the entire life of your character (or at least until level 51 when you can get the run speed AA that works indoors).

Most importantly - SOW IS MUCH FASTER. At higher levels its 55%.

Many mobs run so fast that they can almost keep up with a SOW'd player. If you only had the boot effect, you'd be dead. And don't forget, in EQ mobs have an unrealistically long melee range that you need to get out of before you stop getting hit. So even with slow mobs, the extra speed you get from sow is still important since you'll get hit less when you turn and run. Since you often don't run until your low on HP, avoiding one or two extra hits can make the difference between getting away and dying.

Only drawback - sow potions have like a 4.0 second cast time which could be a problem if your sow runs out at the wrong time. But I don't think this is any real disadvantage compared to the boot effect.

JBoots and TBoots have such crappy stats you probably won't be wearing them when the effect runs out, so you will lose time time fumbling to equip them. Sow works from inventory.

And since SOW lasts 2x longer, you'll probably find yourself losing your run speed buff in a pinch far less often than you will with the boots. Also, I often don't mind zoning out of a dungeon every 36 minutes to recast sow, but I'd hate to do it every 18 minutes with the boots.

Finally, SOW potions are not NO DROP so you can pass one to a buddy so he can get a sow too.

Dude, you can do J boots from inventory.
RE: I'm Sticking w/ Sow Potions
# Dec 22 2003 at 5:11 PM Rating: Decent
nice calculation and i won't argue on that, but the boots have a few advantages. One you never run out of charges. and b the casting time. On numerous occasions when you get disspelled, you can quick cast sow and it's in your 1st slot before the next disspell lands. (think of monsters like chromadiaks in skyfire or cobalt drakes in cobalt scar who chain disspell).

For the rest you never have to rely on somebody else for a cast when you run out of charges when such happens or drag multiple potion botles, and when financial times get touch, you still have the nice boots to keep you speeded to the place where you normally farm plat for potions.

These boots are not useless neither are potions both have their pro's and cons.

Personally i think this is nice for busy servers where a lot of cash is available. (let's hope the casino doesn't drown it all) and where it is waiting in line to slay the mob for jboots.

happy hunting

RE: I'm Sticking w/ Sow Potions
# Dec 12 2003 at 8:53 AM Rating: Default
61 sow pots will not last entire life of character. if you use them enough to make the investment worthwhile, they won't last long at all, relatively, plus you'll want to use shared bank to give to your alts, and they last even less. sifting through your verbiage, the only advantage is percent speed, 55 vs 35. but you only pay once for tboots, or quest jboots once. you'll be buying sow pots forever, so long term investment is poor. also, there is a simple economic principle called opportunity cost. instead of waiting around to get a drood for a group or to sow you, you could be killing and getting xp and loot. that's what you give up by constantly relying on droods/shammys/whoever for sow. yes, pots are faster, but they take up more inventory slots, slower cast, cannot be cast indoors, and will cost you 8-9 plat per sow for the rest of your life. and boots ARE clickable from inventory...i have jboots. and 35 percent is suddenly OK when your pots run out and it's a long way to bazaar...you will never run out of boots. the game has changed...when i first started playing, you could not outrun mobs without sow, or some other speed enhancement. now, it's like they nerfed the mobs, cuz i routinely outrun mobs even without sow, and low health/agility. not to mention you can use it as a right-click junk buff for dispell magic purposes. i used pots till i got jboots, then i felt relieved because i didn't have to visit bazaar so often and i had more inventory slots available and, of course, more money. and with PoP...and the portals, your running distance was reduced by a ridiculous factor. so much less running with the portals. it almost makes sow pots an unwise investment now.....shammy's and droods lost a lot of business. and jboots are instant click, you can click on the fly, you don't have to stop running...so you'll never lose your run speed...a huge advantage over pots/spell! LOL...you wrote this so long ago, you'll probably never read this rebut. LOL p.s..your math is faulty...366 hours for a level 65 is 1 level per 5 hours, not going to happen when you get 50 plus. additionally, not many people are going to stop playing at 65, that's when the fun starts for most. and when they add another 5 levels!?......

actually went and got these today for my barb warrior. At base cha which is below 100 and indifferent to him it would have cost me 6999pp. Had a level 55 shammy throw a char buff on brought the price to just over 5900pp cha was at 101. threw one stein in and the price was just over 5500pp. finally put the last stein in hand and got him down to 5223pp at 151 char this would be the lowest he'll go. total savings 1776pp not 3k. But I heard from a halfling hers cost well over 7k. But hey I'll stick with the facts.
RE: Steins "Update"
# Jul 03 2003 at 9:20 AM Rating: Default
Another option is to find someone MQing the JBoots. Last night I paid a druid who was auctioning the Jbooots for 3000 pp to give the boots to on of my alts. I took along the 3000pp to pay her and the 3250gp to give the NPC that gives out the JBoots. She ported us to Ferrot and then speed buffed me and str buffed me. I followed her and she tracked the NPC. He is one fast bugger so you will eitehr need a bunch of helpers or a good tracker. She handed in the Ring and the otehr no rent item, I then handed him the 3250gp and today, my level 20 mage has an instant click SOW.

RE: Steins
# Jun 16 2003 at 2:16 PM Rating: Default
I would not waste my money on these. I did the calculations. Here goes. You can buy a 10 dose SOW potion in Bazaar for usually 75pp. For the amount of money you droped on these boots you could buy around 70 10 dose SOW potions. That equals 700 SOWs. Since a SOW lasts approximately 36 minutes that is 25200 minutes of SOW just on the potions. Since you are a Warrior, you will more than likely be grouped most of the time. SHM, RNG and Druids all have SOW that they can easily buff you with. Most groups always have a Sower. 25200 minutes of actual play time equals 17.5 days of online game time. So, you could always have SOW on for 17.5 days of game time for the same price as you droped on these 1 ac boots. That assumes you do not get any buffs. In 17.5 days you could easilly get into your 50s where you spend points on RUN3.

Forget the boots.

Went down and got a Bag of the Tinkerers while i was there i saw the Traveler's Boots as well.
Cost was 5250pp with 159cha but i think you only need 135cha to get this price.
went though with my 44lvl druid but becareful just inside sol A as i fell into the lava first time so use lev if you can.
used inv as well but a shaman saw though it gated out and tried again just so i didnt have to fight it.
second time when straight though with out being seen by not stopping at the crowded areas.
Already have jboots on my pally but would like to know about anyone who has tried to cast these while running.
Also find the jboots a bit slower than my druids sow at lvl44

Ok guys these are nice but i think they are a bit slower than J-boots or a SoW spell.T-boots cannot be used on the run or while moving.
You cannot steal them from magic item, lore item, no drop.Factions do hurt or Help item sale.I have 150cha with right items and a i am folower of Rallos Zek also they cost me about 5300pp.anyone not able to solo in Sol A should bring a friend to help them someone over 40th would do.The vendor who sells them is in the gnome fortress. Not sure if he drops them if you kill him or if there is a quest related to obtaining them from him for free.Much easier to get if you have the Plat for them. They increase movement by 35%.

Same as JBoots
# Nov 27 2002 at 12:21 AM Rating: Decent
Finally got a pair of TBoots after I got sick of trying to even get close to getting an AC - and the MQ ring is never for sale anyway.

Went there with my 57 Druid friend and smashed my way thru to merchant. With crappy CHA the price was like 7500 PP and I freaked (only brought 5.5K with me). Druid friend then gave me CHA items and it boosted my CHA to like 150 - price went down to nice 5.3K or so.

Difference in speed btw these and JBoots = 0
Difference in casting time = 1 sec (which is bugger all)
Difference in you getting them vs overcamped AC's = 1000%

As people said all over - it saved their butts more than a few times.

Anybody can get these who has the right faction and 5k. CHA 130 gives you the best price, so borrow some CHA gear for this. All you need is a rez type class that is high enough to slaughter a path for you. You follow and if you die who cares, he drags you to the merchant, Rez, buy, and repeat in reverse to get out. I have heard (but not tried) that if you jump into the Lava and type /q that you will be ported to the entrance of the zone.

Actually there was an old trick that if you LD'd (/q'd) in lava you would be ported to the succor point of the zone when you logged back in. It was a feature put in by Verant in response to the problem of people going LD in a lava filled dungeon and returning to find a dead character.

However, this is long taken out of the game so if you try it now you'll likely log back into EQ to find your character quite dead and your corpse sitting at the bottom of a lava pit.
