With the advent of LDoN nobody is hunting in old world dungeons anymore, thus making non-LDoN drops like these rarer and rarer. Also, with the corrupt sony employee enabling plat dupers to work their foul magics, prices on items have doubled, sometimes more. Im not going to get into a long speech about any of this, but just say that this item is RARE as hell in Tallon Zek Bazaar now and I had to wait months to find one. The price was 65k. The stat buffs are amazing, but I find the entertainment aspect of being able to turn into a werewolf priceless.

As participation in old world dungeons decreases these things have really shot up in price on the servers I frequent. 25-50k is not unusual.

Effects I believe it DOES NOT STACK with:

Other illusions (notably Night's Dark Terror jack-o-lantern), Boon of the Garou.

High end ranger attack buff (Call of the Predator?).

I don't think you can be shrunk while its on?

Any others?

Also, it is self only.

I have this item and have had it for some time now, you can be shrunk twice with the effect on. no the effect does not stack with CoP but I have found that this item is indespenceable when you dont have someone casting haste spells and will help you get your epic to proc sooner(Due to the haste you are getting more chances to hit and thus can get that grp haste spell buff up sooner) I think I have seen ferune Avatar stack but cant remember for sure, Ill have to test it :P

Its been confirmed by several people that have done extensive log parsing that haste and weapon delay DO NOT affect proc rates. I know its counterintuitive, but its been proven. I don't have the link but there are numerous threads about this on the Monkly-Business forums:

www.monkly-business.com

What they found is that weapon proc rates are coded so that a weapon will average X number of procs per minute over time (and for most weapons this proc rate is the same).

And they found that the game will adjust for haste (even attack speed debuffs) to keep this constant. Thus, if your hasted the % chance to proc per swing goes down, if your attack speed is debuffed, it will go up. Similarly, a weapon with high delay will have a higher % chance to proc per swing than a lower one. This keeps the proc rates pretty constant.

The only modifier is dex. However, these same parses have found that increasing dex, even by a large amount, only has a minimal effect on increasing proc rates.

So the only benefit to haste is that X% haste will increase how often you swing your weapon by X%, thus increasing your melee damage output over time by X% - but not your proc damage over time.
RE: Stackin and Price
# Jun 18 2004 at 10:48 PM Rating: Default
this is true, 3warriors took advantage of this fact (that your chance of procing per swing goes up the slower you swing since the chance to proc/min is constant)by using Earthshakers, and aa abilities such as rampage to AoE kill around 50+ mobs in PoFire at one time. THey had a shamman slow them, they then pulled a bunch of mobs, used their AoE earthshakers and aa abilities to essentially AE hit every mob multuple times........something along those lines, I just love the poeple who come up with these innovative ways to use the equipment in the game and their abilities to their maximum potential....Unfortunately SoE doesnt like people using such smart thinking

According to Casters Realm you can stack 1 haste item, 1 haste spell, 1 hase song, + 1 haste cap breaking song. Has this changed because I'm seeing posts here saying this is not true as well as posts saying that it is true.... I know alot is outdated on these sites just wondering if anyone a recent fact?? And I surely that that rumor is wrong and it has not been nerfed cause I'm going to Velks tomorrow to try and get it :)

1 haste item, and 1 haste song OR 1 haste item, and 1 haste spell. the icons may stack, the other affects of the song/spell may stack; however, the actual hastes do not stack.

For a discussion on haste stacking (there are 4 types of haste) see:

http://pub142.ezboard.com/feqdivabardsofeverquestfrm58.showMessage?topicID=905.topic

To be honest, in groups, you probably will have the haste on LotH superceded by either your own haste or shammy/ench haste....its the other buffs that really help (and they stack) as well as the fact that its one handable, and can be swapped out with DotB and TdoK with a weapon still in off hand. (you can't equip two pure instruments at once, but can equip it with an weapon that has instrument mod in the off hand).

Delving through a few messages boards i found 4 posts stating that the effect becomes usable at lvl 40. Hope that helps, I will be able to verify this in 38 levels, bought it for my twinkie bard, can't wait for it to work. Can anyone confirm level at which the effect is usable?

Yep, definitely 40. The stats it gives you are really good, and with a haste song and a haste item you turn into a fuzzy little buzzsaw.

No , becuase Lute of the Howlers haste is spell haste to. the Shammy or Ench haste would overwrite this, but you would still get the extra atk, str, and illusion.

IF you hit with it first chntr spell will overide. but according to chntr my song wasnt overwritting his

It doesn't matter if they are on you buff bar, whichever one is better, it will take effect, no matter if you have BOTH on it at the same time. Just talk to the people in your group to see who has the best haste, or whatever, and work accordingly. This is nice, simply because of the atk buff, and the haste and illusion that will stick, and you have more room for twisting, which you can take advantage of. If you have a nice haste item, you can just throw up illusion, or get chanter buff, and you don't have to worry about playing haste other than warsong or other stacking haste.

The one thing that is the exception to the above, is warsong and ervag's lines stack with anything, along with Rizlona's call of flame.

With a different combination, I've heard of bards getting the haste up to 130% or 150% or so, i think it was chanter's best haste, plus 41% haste item, and rizlona's. maybe something else, or something more. But it is possible.

I could go on and on about different things like this, go to www.dotnetdiva.com, very good bard board for more info on stuff like this.

Could some bard with this item please post if there is a stringed instrument bonus with this Lute? (i.e. see if there is an extra bonus over a normal lute)
Would love to see if this is just an effect item and if I will need the Seven Stringed Lute for an instrument bonus or if this covers both.
RE: Stringed Instrument Bonus
# Oct 19 2002 at 7:18 PM Rating: Default
I have this item on my 46 bard and it does not seem to provide any bonus when playing the mana heal song. What is dows alow you to do is play it while fighting. This is a primary hand item and you can hold a weapon in secondary hand and fight and play. The werewolf form is excellent I seem to nearly out damage my 59 Paladin when I am 2 boxing both of them.
RE: Stringed Instrument Bonus
# Dec 17 2002 at 7:10 PM Rating: Good
Like the percent haste, the amount of mana regenerated is never affected by instrument modifiers, so that is not a good test.

This lute does indeed give an increase over the storebought versions. It has a mod of 2.2 whereas a storebought lute or mandolin has a mod of 1.8.

According to my math, that would make it 22% better than the regular instruments. But I have seen it frequently posted that this adds 10%... so I have no idea how they are calculating the percentages.

However, I do know the modifiers are correct at 2.2 for this and 1.8 for standard lute/mandolin. To use modifiers, multiply the normal song stat by the modifier to determine the stat with the instrument.

Edited, Tue Dec 17 18:54:16 2002
#REDACTED, Posted: Dec 20 2002 at 5:59 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) The mod is actually 2.0, unfortunately.
RE: Stringed Instrument Bonus
# Feb 21 2003 at 11:40 AM Rating: Good
No, the mod is really 2.2.

The best way to test this is with the strength component of Niv's. Turn off all songs and note your Strength. Then sing Niv's Melody of Preservation with no instrument equipped. Make note of your STR now and subtract your unbuffed STR. This is your baseline value (i.e., mod 1.0). Equip your Lute of the Howler and note your STR again. Calculate how much STR is added with the Lute equipped (i.e, STR with the Lute equipped minus unbuffed STR). Then determine the modifier by dividing the STR added with the Lute equipped by the STR added with no instrument equipped.

Example: Your unbuffed STR is 200. Singing Niv's with no instrument equipped, your STR is 210. That means Niv's adds 10 STR with no instrument. Then you equip your Lute of the Howler and sing Niv's again. You note that your strength increases to 222. (222 - 200) = 22 STR added with Lute equipped.

Modifier = 22 / 10 = 2.2

You can also confirm the instrument mod on Lucy: http://lucy.fnord.net/item.html?id=25315

Bad move VI....

Recently, not sure exactly when, Verant Decided that illusions will not stack....can you say sux0r?....now with kos masks such as Iksar Hide and this Lute, you can no longer put another illusion on to keep the regen or stats so no longer work in zones with guards......but fortunately for this case, most 45+ zones do not have guards, which means KoS isnt a factor....still would be nice to have iksar regen and werewolf stats/haste....

Oh and one other thing about the lute itself...
Bard song haste, or so i gather from in game experiences and posts online, does not stack with spell haste (excluding Battlecry and Warsong of course) but this mask counts as spell haste....If you say that you see a noticeable increase in speed when singing Villas Chorus of Celerity (or whatever 54 song is) that is because EQ takes the larger haste between all spells / songs and replaces all others. When the lute's haste is replaced by the greater percentage in your song, however, you will still recieve the str and attack bonuses from the lute which makes this somewhat confusing.

Oh one last thing... this seems to be the correct formula for haste...

Original Delay - OD
Delay 2 - D2
Delay 3 - D3
Final Delay - FD
Item Haste - I
Spell/Song Haste - S
Stackable song haste - ST

D2 = (OD - (I/100) x OD)
D3 = (D2 - (S/100) x D2)
FD = (D3 - (ST/100)x D3)

Howler Stacking
# Aug 03 2002 at 5:14 PM Rating: Default
I play a bard on the Tribunal and have had my lute of the howler for some time. I often twist vah shir with group haste, and notice a considerable increase in my attack speed when teh group haste hits, so yes, it does stack with howler. Even Battle song of Vah shir and Verses of Celerity will stack with howler noticably.

I do not believe that howler haste stacks with shisar haste. I believe you get the haste of shisar, and all other buff components of werewolf.
Note that although howler will stack on top of the shammy buff Focus, you cannot stack focus on top of werewolf, so click off before being focused.

Hmm, it would seem to me that you need to take a pill, Aayana.
How could ANY Bard forget such a great song from your lower levels? How could you?
I might also note that Bardic song stacking rules are being altered constantly. Also, as you were so eloquent to mention, the haste differences in many of these stacking combinations are so minute you may as well have spent your time playing as opposed to flaming someone.

Just to clear it up...
# Jul 29 2002 at 1:49 PM Rating: Good
(Borrowed from eqdiva.com)

Item Hastes will not stack, the greater haste item will be the only one that is applied.
Item Hastes will stack with either a Song Haste, or a Spell Haste, but not both. *
Spell/Song Haste (includes RoWF) will NOT stack, the greater haste spell/song will be applied. *
Haste is measured in Rate of Attack Increase, NOT Delay Decrease.
The FORMULA for determining Delay with Haste is: New (Hasted) Delay = Delay/(1+Haste)
Delay is measured in tenths of seconds.

*Exceptions:

Celestial Tranquility (monk epic) will stack with "higher end haste spells".
The Monk Discipline 100 Fists (lvl 57) will stack with Item Haste AND Spell/Song Haste.
Melody/Composition of Ervaj and Battlecry/Warsong of the Vah Shir will stack with any ONE other Song OR Spell Haste and ONE Item Haste, reportedly allowing the haste cap to be broken.

LotH will NOT stack with any bard haste songs aside from the Vah Shir line, nor will it stack with shaman or enchanter hastes. Illusion werewolf does not have a lifetap component. The effect grants: Change Form(Werewolf); Self: Faction Modifier(Werewolf); Self: Increase ATK(45-61), Attack Speed (40%); Self: Increase STR(23-30).

The BoH does NOT proc a group haste spell, Niv's Melody of Preservation does: Increase STR(10-24), ATK(10-24), Regeneration(6-17 hp per tick); Damage Absorption against magic attack (10-20). NO HASTE. The BoH is also a clicky item, not a proc.

Bards will never outdamage a warrior, unless the warrior is an idiot.

Ok people here is how it works. this has a -small- haste component on it that stacks with all other haste components. spells and item. the reason this is, is because it is an illusion type effect. this means it is an inate abbility of this form such as troll form haveing regen which stacks with both regen items and spells. useing lute of howler bard self haste and an item haste as well as the new stackable haste songs (vahshir war and battle cry) you can get your haste OVER 100% (I still think it is capped but it is by the numbers over 100%) this is a very nice addition for any bard.

He's definitely not full of it. This illusion turns the target (you, in the case of the lute) into a werewolf, grants +100 DEX (stackable with all other DEX buffs), infravision, and a lifetap proc to all melee weapons (not range weapons). This illusion will not stack with any of the hybrid-cast weapon procs such as the Ranger Call of Sky, Jolting Blades, or Call of Fire and will overwrite those spells.
