Threads Stackable?

A few posts down someone stated that the Threads which come from Velk's are NOT stackable? Is this GHASTLY rumor true? By my count, I'm going to need SIXTY-FIVE of them (if I succeed every time) and that's a DARN gud reason to bring da Sewin' kit into Velk's if they don't stack. Grr.
Please confirm stack/do not stack.

The Crystalline Silk Threads are NOT stackable, the Crystalline Silk Fibers are NOT stackable, the Glowing Shardwurm Bile is NOT stackable, the Glowing Crystalline Silk is NOT stackable and lastly the Silk Shawl is NOT stackable.

In short, clean up your inv and bring that kit with you!

As of a few patches ago the threads needed from Velk's became no drop. This was without warning, much like the VP loot, and a lot of people got screwed in the process while skilling up their tailoring. Very bad form.

But as of current the threads have become no drop.
The Info

I don't know where everyone gets their information, but let me set this bit of information straight.

The Threads drop in Velks lab. The drops are pretty common. In about 6 hours we got 100+ drops.

The biles are rare and the hardest part of this quest to acquire.

The 5th Shawl quest becomes trivial to make AT 110.
RE: The Info
# Jul 31 2002 at 2:34 AM Rating: Decent
The biles are harder to get? Doubtful.

Got all of my biles before my druid was level 45 (just look for the glowing wurms at night, all over the places, easy for a druid to solo).

Just try to get 75 threads at level 45 soloing....

So I got my biles just sitting in the bank. Of course I need to work on my tailoring anyways...

As of 7/4/01, the final combine is trivial at 122 skill.

Also, as has been said, the threads do not drop in Crystal Caves. HOWEVER, if you are working your tailoring skill up with crystalline silk, you will want to head over to the spider area in Crystal Caves rather than Velkator's Labrynth. The drop rate on regular silks in Velk's is, frankly, horrible in comparison. Velk spiders have also been upgraded in last patch, and are blue to 59 (but not 51+ cept for nameds, I think). They're not much more difficult than say, the LDCs in solb, but the ones in CC are far, far easier.

This item has been improved. Current Stats are AC 5 +5 int/wis/cha and +5 FR/CR. I completed the quest on June 24th.
#Anonymous, Posted: Jun 14 2001 at 4:46 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) Well, I just failed the skill check on the final step with a tailoring skill of 124 and INT well over 200. And yes, I got my crappy 4th stage prayer shawl back.
Info as of June 1st
# Jun 09 2001 at 6:32 PM Rating: Excellent
Helped a necro friend do this. They do drop in Velkator's off of Crystalline spiders. These cast invis when they spawn so see invis is very handy for pulling.

These silks ARE droppable/tradeable so when he had to log and we kept killing we were able to hold them for him. In about 4 hours of killing we got 46 silks for him. We were pulling to the zone, easy work for 5 level 51s (3 warriors, cleric and enchanter)

The spiders here also drop all three peices you need for the Thurgadin Gate potions. Small bricks of Velium (non stackable), Small pieces of Velium (stackable) and crystalline silk (stackable).
Silk Threads
# Jun 07 2001 at 8:32 AM Rating: Decent
Im currently doing the fifth shawl quest, and therefore hunting for threads. Im killing the spiders just inside, close to the entrance. These spiders drop BOTH Crystalline Silk and Crystalline Silk THREADS. The silk is stackable, the threads are not. Threads look like small necklaces. Drop fairly common on the crys watchers.

7th quest complete
# Jun 04 2001 at 9:45 PM Rating: Default
You guys wanna know why they make this so hard?

The seventh part I heard has been complete.

Stats are

AC7 + 7cha +7 int +7wis +7fire/cold/magic *i think*

Effect: flowing thought I

This is what's brewing around the rumor mill anyways.

To me, all this work seems worth it for somthing like that.

Stamina too! Great for a necro or shaman. (The stamina, I mean. The shawl would be great for any caster or even hybrid.)
Change is good
# Jun 01 2001 at 10:23 PM Rating: Default
I just finished my Silk Coldain Prayer Shawl, and found it to have 5 Chr and 5 Fire Resist in addition to the other stats. I believe this was changed last patch.

The drop rate is better in Velk's now too. Sometimes the spiders even drop 4 threads at a time. I did this with a tailoring of 136 and failed on only one fiber. Everything was trival at 136.
Spider
# May 25 2001 at 7:22 AM Rating: Default
The spiders are green at level 52. They hit like level 50s though, do have a nasty poison, do go invis and finally...have a LOT of HPs (typical of SoV mobs). Take a ench/sham for slow and a few tanks and they are np. Spiders drop some nice pre-GEB int boots also, but fairly rare. Silk does not drop a lot, but is supposed to be changed the 30th patch.

the threads dropped in velks are entirely different people...from the threads dropped by any other spider anywhere...

Velks spiders threads <for those that just dont get it> are the ones needed for the quest.

The crystalline silk threads drop off spiders in Velketor's, mind you they are about 50 and have a real nasty venom, I talked with others and tried myself to get them, they drop about 1 every hour. you need 75 threads with no failures to do the quest, you do the quest, I'm not gona waste so much time, look at how long it took one person, and i bet they were there for twice that amount of time if not more camping the spiders
RE: Elriq of E'Ci
# Aug 25 2001 at 11:20 PM Rating: Decent
The threads drop WAY more often then one every hour, i hunt in velks every waking moment and they drop all the time, sometimes 4 to a spider - and besides it wouldnt be wasting time to hunt there, velks has awesome exp and incredible loots, you could collect the threads while camping top spiders/Eye

This quest calls for "crystalline silk threads". The only way to get these is to loot them directly off of spiders in Velketor's Labyrinth.

Regular spider silks and spiderling silks from the old world will not work. Combining two spiderling silks will get you a silk thread, but that is a different item than a *crystalline* silk thread.

Crystalline silks that drop in Crystal Caverns also will not work. Combining two of those gets you a crystalline silk swatch. There is no way to tailor a crystalline silk thread out of crystalline silks.

Anyway. The dwarf says you need to be a master which makes me think you make it if you are. He does not say to get tailoring as high as possible (which he would if risk) but instead just that you should be at least a master (101)

This poster says the thing is returned which means even less risk.
RE: I think its risk free at 100
# May 26 2004 at 8:46 PM Rating: Default
In this quest the risk isnt losing your shawl its in losing a month of collect 75 threads and 10 biles, this one step will take longer than the previous 4 combined.
RE: RISK
# May 22 2001 at 8:01 PM Rating: Default
By what I understand, at the moment, if you fail on the combine the shawl is gone and you have to do it from the 4th on again. At least that is what has been posted on other message boards concenring this quest by those that have done this quest.

The threads DO NOT drop in crystal caverns.... Sure silks do... but wtf does that have to do with this quest.
RE: Wolvbane
# May 23 2001 at 7:35 AM Rating: Default
Spiderling silks are combined in sets of 2 to make threads in basic tailoring. Unless of course, the Velk spiders drop threads versus spiderling silk or spider silk.

I don't feel like restating it again so I'm just gonna quote one of the many earlier posts reagrding this:
"The crystalline silk threads drop off spiders in Velketor's"

Yeah, I think that pretty much sums it up.
#REDACTED, Posted: May 22 2001 at 5:53 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) Don't try fer silks and such in Velk's.. Goto CC.. I spend a weeks there with a buddy and he obtained about 600 silks.. And everything was Green and very abundant.. Plus while your there you can take out a few named and get some phat lewtz.. hehe...
RE: Velk???
# May 22 2001 at 7:59 PM Rating: Default
These THREADS don't drop in CC. The only place to get these threads in Velk's. We can only hope that they will eventually will drop somewhere else or there will be a bottle neck for those trying to do this quest.
RE: Velk???
# Jun 14 2001 at 7:07 AM Rating: Default
To confirm what others have said... these silk thread drop ONLY in velks lab, no where else... other silks.. thread.. whatever, is not the same and wont work for shawl quest. ALSO... what bottleneck? ive been to velks for the last 3 nights in a row and everytime, me and my group are the only ones there :) i got 18 silks in a few hours tonight, would have more but another person in group looted about 18 also. GL all

I have heard a lot of people complaining on the message boards (like on EQTraders) on how hard this quest is to give something that is essentially the same as Braided Ivy Cords (AC 5, Wis 5), but with that Intelligence component, this thing is incredible for us Inteligence casters. Try finding some gear for the shoulders that has a +5 Int and AC 5 without being planar gear or other NO DROP item. ;)

This quest IS doable, and IMHO, with the tradeskill necessity, SUPER FUN :)

Thanks Verant!

well some one here surely has never tried to become a master in tailoring and know how hard it is to get your skill up. Tailoring isnt like blacksmithing, baking, pottery, and brewing most of the componets you cant buy as you can with them baking you can take to 135 in 2 hours , pottery in 1 hour and brewing in 2 hours and only cost about 100 pp each to take out to 135, Tailoring the only componets that are sold is patterns. theres no way to get tailoring past 100 by buying the stuff from npcs. Also the threads are droped in VL ive got a few right now but no were close to 75 of them and they are no drop and dont stack they look like a necklace.
Not bad for wis in the long run

yeah but all i had was braided ivy, even at 54 ;)

This is better since 5 cold res, plus it has another bonus:

The ring quest goes up to 10, so I'd imagine this shawl quest does. A 10 wis 10 cold res shoulder item is pretty uber. So i want to do this quest since there will be more, I have the 4 one now.

True, there aren't any better +INT shoulder items that aren't No Drop (at least, not any that are listed on eqprices). Personally, I use a +mana shoulder item at the moment, but that's by the by.

However, this quest is either extremely tedious or both hard and tedious depending on your level.

Currently, spiders in Velk's lab are somewhat underconned and extremely sparse loot-wise. The other day a 53 mage and myself camped for 5 hours in VL. None of the fights near the zone line were particularly hard (although we lost a few pets), but in 5 hours we looted the grand total of 10 silks, 10 small bricks velium, 5 or 6 small pieces of velium, and 2 (count em, two) threads. The mage got little exp (a third of a blue I believe), I got decent exp (2 1/2 blues or so).

Verant have said that the drop rate will be looked at in the next patch, but as things stand with a partner who's also hunting for threads (I can't solo VL spiders with much success) I'll have to spend the next 15 days or so of play time trying to get the threads (assuming I don't fail on any combine, and we all know how easy it isn't to raise tailoring).

Doable? Yes. Super fun? Not likely.
RE: Good for Int, bad For Wis
# Sep 24 2001 at 8:20 AM Rating: Decent
I'm not sure if they changed the drop rate on those threads. But I was in a guild group (as in I'm only 48), and these things were dropping like mad. I was the only one wanting them for this quest at the time so I got all of them. We got me 15 in about an hour, a bunch of crystaline silks, and a few pieces/bricks of velium(not really sure there was someone in the group who wanted them). I'm stuck on my 3rd shawl, darn baking, hehe, have the gate potion for my 4th, and am near finished my 5th.

Keep in mind this is far from the final product from this series of quests; it's just one step along the way.
The sixth shawl has already been completed. It is a much shorter quest and also uses tailoring, though it seems to require a higher tailoring skill (the final combine was nontrivial at 161). The stats on that shawl are, as expected, AC 6 wis+6 int+6 sv cold+6.
We have also been promised that anyone who follows the series of quests all the way through "will not feel shortchanged in the least". By the eighth shawl I'm expecting a right clickable effect and amazing stats, comparable to the eighth coldain insignia ring...

And I think we all owe Farendil a big thank you for putting in the long hours in Velk's to collect the threads despite the incorrect drop rate, and risking everything he has done twice to let us know about the fifth and sixth prayer shawl quests and their rewards.
