Sometime last summer, this item was updated to be equippable in the secondary slot as well as primary instead of primary only. Imagine my delight coming back from a break over the summer to realize that my old banked item from Sky was newly improved and suddenly extremely useful! It looks like it had to do with this post here on the official TLP forums: https://forums.daybreakgames.com/eq/index.php?posts/3435440/

I also added a current item window picture.

Brass is for DS
# Dec 06 2002 at 1:54 PM Rating: Excellent
People don't seem to understand what a brass instrument like this is good for. It is not for the CHA or HPs nor is it for AEing greenies. It is best used to put a DS your MA on a raid.

Pre-PoP an ideal setup would be McVaxius' Rousing Rondo for the DS. McRR is a brass song and this horn will increase the DS from it. In your secondary you would use epic, twist Amplification and sing either Psalms of Cooling or Psalms of Warmth. If you are 60+ you can also putetone. Your MA will have a very powerful DS on him from your two songs. I DS in the 50s this way.

Post-PoP you would use Warsong of Zek (brass), Psalms of Veeshan (singing) and Amplification, with this horn in primary and epic in secondary.

Of course you could always change instruments while you twist and melee. That gets annoying. This brass in primary would make it much easier to turn out your best.

actually...

Actually, the Velkdoobeedah's Horn of Disaster from the Temple of Veeshan is also primary hand only.
#Anonymous, Posted: May 22 2001 at 10:41 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) I hope this horn has a magical bonus on it, as statwise, there are zero changes besides the name from Denon's Horn of Dissension.
#Anonymous, Posted: May 22 2001 at 10:33 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) Last I checked, things like the lute off phara dar and possibly the lute of the howler are *secondary* but also can be weilded with a primary weapon.
#Anonymous, Posted: May 22 2001 at 7:53 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) Is it true that this instrument can be weilded with a shield or a weapon? I know that the commonly dropped burnished wood stave is a 2hb, primary slot, and can be weilded with nothing else. If it truly can be dual weilded, this item might actually be worth the effort.
#Anonymous, Posted: May 28 2001 at 8:13 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) yup can have weapon in off hand. Brass is nice for AE-ing greens, that's about it :p. Oh I guess you could use Ervaj haste line with this.

anyone find it odd that the instrument is primary when every other bard instrument in existance is secondary?... just a little tidbit from your neighborhood bard...

Drums of the Beast also main hand with off hand allowable, many more to come, some serving as weapons, also, in PoP

Lute of the Howler can be equipped in primary and a weapon secondary.

quite true - the Efreeti War Horn (part of this quest) is primary hand only. Also, when it's wielded you CAN put a weapon in the second hand - I have done so myself to see. The horn acts as hand to hand, and the weapon is whatever it is (Sions partisan in my case atm)

I expect the same to be true with the final product. As its only a horn, it makes sense that only one hand is really needed to play it. Most of the other instruments in game need 2 hands to play (drum, lute, flute) with the possible exception of Nostrolo's Tambourine.

"every other bard instrument in existance is secondary"

Not quite. In the later expansions, and as people have begun to find in the higher level range; there are Instruments that are not only usable in the Primary Slot, but also able to be used with a Secondary weapon.

Take a look through this site's Equipment/By Slot/Bard Instruments Section and you may be pleasantly surprised at what awaits you.
Test of Brass

haha, "Test of Brass", call me immature, but thats pretty funny. Shoulden't it be a male only item?(Maluvas feels some low ratings comming on this one)

Heh...no..that was actually kinda funny. If I see you rating go down...I'll nudge it up a little.

I'm just wondering why a PoA item wouldn't increase bardsong a little. 0% increase? Or is that just because no one has figured it out yet?
#Anonymous, Posted: May 21 2001 at 7:21 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) Anyone from Krieger figure out how much this amplifies songs by? The stats are not too shabby compared to other instruments I have seen. I have only just started playing the class, but I am already loving it.
#Anonymous, Posted: May 21 2001 at 6:43 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) this is for bards its a song

not a song... Its an instrument.
#REDACTED, Posted: May 21 2001 at 6:49 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) Actually, he was rather obviously joking, playing off the fact that someone posts "This rocks for a monk!" or something similar on just about every new item that's posted. So you're partially right: SOMEONE'S post was definitely "just dumb."
#Anonymous, Posted: May 21 2001 at 6:38 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) This is an AWESOME monk item!!! That STR is just great and I can get lower prices now!! woo!! I love being a monk!
#REDACTED, Posted: May 22 2001 at 9:19 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) ROFL!
#Anonymous, Posted: May 21 2001 at 7:36 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) uuhh what are you talking about?
