OK first I wanna say, Im not gonna call anyone a fake but....... as one of the few DE smiths able to make racial on Drinal I got excited when I saw the finnaly the chain boots and enchanted plate could be forged; so immediately I zip over to my favoritee smithin recipe site and sure enough the recipe has been added :):):).... now Im of the neriak get my components ready and hit combine AND hmmmmmmm get a can not combine message, so I try varyin the recipe to all possible combintaions and zilch... I say okkkkkkk and decide Ill make some enchanted plate; guess what when my favorite enchanter goes to make me some enchanted blocks he finds out that they cant be, we experiment and only the bricks can be enchanted. after crying for awhile I get this idea that it must be bein tested and zip ovet to test server and chat with the NPCs that give out the recipes and guess what.. nothin about any recipes for boots or enchanted plate.
So someone plz explain where these came from!!!

You are missing a fundamental issue of enchanted cultural smithing that crosses all cultural lines. The enchant ore spells can only enchant Large Bricks of ore, yes. Then you take *three* enchanted large bricks and some Neriak Nectar(morning dew, water, whatever your culture uses as cooling agent) to make an enchanted block. Then work the recipes that require an enchanted block. I think you'll find this works much better. Of course, that means 3 times the casting...

you need to combine it in the proper forge not all forges accept all recipes the proper forge to use in this case is the one located in 3rd gate.

Did you remember to get the Teir'Dal smithing hammer? you need to use the race specific hammer as well.

What about the regular...
# May 18 2001 at 2:37 PM Rating: Default
Does anyone know where i can find directions to making just the regular, non-imbued, Teir'dal boots that casters can wear? Do i find the recipe in game from someone, and if so, who?

Info is in this site. Check the Skills link, then Blacksmithing, then racial/cultural forging.

I payed for my roomie to get up high enough to be able to do this armor, not the imbued but just the enchanted he had 20 tries and succedded on like 4 items the rest were fails. It's not as easy as everyone thinks, and on our server there ain't that many people who are even high enough de smiths to be able to do it. So far he is the only one. We sold a tunic and legs for 2500pp that is what she offered. If you are gonna charge people make them bring thier own shadow essence. Camping those suckers for 3 days and only got about 23 of them. It's boreing but it looks really nice on us de females and the de males don't look to shaby in it either

caster's wearing chain
# May 16 2001 at 5:55 PM Rating: Decent
hmm... has anyone ever gone and talked the the dark elf in neriak 3rd gate that gives the recipe for this armor. he clearly explains it's MAGICAL nature and the fact that pure casters can wear it. i think too many players focus only on the stats in the little tan box and forget there is actually a game with a (albeit a small amount of) story to it.

(remember, the info is actually in the game first, THEN it filters to allakhazam and other sites.)

# May 16 2001 at 6:08 AM Rating: Default
Ok, now that I have your attention (hehehe)

For the idiots who think its stupid for casters to be able to wear this obviously have never played a caster before. (Especially a follower of Inny!) I think its awesome that they can make some armor that will actually give them a bit of AC...

And for those of you who still do not agree... Well, get over it!
Price check :)
# May 16 2001 at 5:18 AM Rating: Decent
What components are needed to make these? IE how much would it cost if I could get a smith to make me a pair "at cost"? I'm thinking these would be nice for my enchanter. And yes, shut up, he worships Innoruuk. I figure with as much trouble as it's caused I may as well get some use out of it...
RE: Price check :)
# May 16 2001 at 3:56 PM Rating: Excellent
If you have good charisma and buy everything that you can from a vendor your shopping list will cost you about 150pp for 1 attempt.

You also need 2 essence of shadow (rare drop off shadowmen) and 1 vial of elven blood (rare drop off high/wood elf) per attempt.

The abilities you need include: highly skilled DE smith of inny, 49+ enchanter, and 29+ DE cleric of inny, and a 135+ skill brewer.

I expect success rates to be very low for anything less than a smithing skill of 200. If anyone has success rate data I would be quite interested in hearing it.

So that's not too bad then. I can see people paying 300pp for these. They are actually pretty good caster boots, what with int in the feet slot and at least half-decent AC and all that. Incidentally I too would be interested in success rate data... if you have to end up regularly buying two of everything, that would easily push the price up some more.
*sigh*
# May 15 2001 at 11:04 PM Rating: Decent
Actually, what I find illogical is casters NOT being able to wear anything but cloth/silk... Those of you who have a problem with casters being able to wear chain are obviously too AD&D-centric.

Then again, it's magic - LOGIC DOESN'T APPLY!!!!
Simple Reason
# May 18 2001 at 2:33 PM Rating: Default
The reason casters can't wear (most) heavy armor is as unexplained as why warriors, for example, can't cast spells. After all, couldn't a warrior in theory train awhile in a mage guild and learn at least the basics of summoning?

The problem here is this is a massive multiplayer game so the classes need to be realitvly balanced. Allowing certain classes the right to equip more balances them out against other class who have spells (casters), or unique talents (monks).

Their isn't neccisarily a in game reason classes couldn't cross train, the reasons are all out of game, and mostly to do with how large a programming job it requires to allow people to micromanage characters to that extent, as opposed to just 'click race' 'click class' 'click points' 'go'

Now in future MMORPG I bet well see games were you CAN play a warrior learning spells... or a caster who can cast normally in heavy armor...
RE: Simple Reason
# May 22 2001 at 5:16 AM Rating: Decent
Actually, there are basic cross-trained classes in the game, Paladin, Ranger, and Shadowknight. As Far as balance goes, a few things need minor adjustment, but most classes have something the others don't. In my opinion, Rangers are the ones who need the most adjustment, They have no really useful skill compared to the other classes. In theory, Yes, Why can't a Warrior learn a few summoning spells? But then what would you have? Another Hybid. Simple as that.
Dark Elvish and High Elvish Chainmail
# May 15 2001 at 10:28 PM Rating: Decent
The reason for the High elves and Dark elves being able to wear chain armor as casters is simple. Its a cheap knock off of AD&D... In AD&D the elvish races (and their dark brethern known as dark elves or drow) were able to craft and wear supple armor which conformed to the body of the wearer, weighed absolutly nothing, and didnt encumber or impede the wearer at all. The armor was known as Elvish Chainmail. With the armor the wearer could use theif skills as if wearing much lighter armor and even Mages could use it and still cast spells since it was so light. The good elves typiclly made their armor from the magical metal Mithril while their dark brothers crafted it with the metals common to the underdark... adamantite.
RE: AD&D
# May 16 2001 at 9:49 AM Rating: Decent
You have to realize one thing, AD&D was a cheap knock off of EVERYTHING Fantasy related at the time it was created. The creators blatantly stole almost every idea and concept from Fantasy Literature of the time.

They were even successfully sued by Michael Moorcock for blatantly plagiarising his works by using the "Melnibonean Mythos" that had all the major "Elric" book series characters in the first release of "Dieties and Demigods" book. For that same book, they were also successfully sued by the H.P. Lovecraft estate for plagiarising his "Cthulhu" ideas in the "Cthulhu Mythos."

If you think that some game is "knocking off" AD&D, just remember that the concepts used there were in no way at all dreamed up by the creators of AD&D. They stole their material from everyone else. If its in AD&D, its not very original. Most of the ideas and concepts come almost directly from Tolkein.

The only reason that AD&D Halflings are called "Halflings" in the first place is... you guessed it! They were successfully sued by the Tolkein estate for the very first release of the ruleset that had the name "Hobbit" in it.
RE: AD&D
# Jan 01 2002 at 9:58 PM Rating: Decent
Yes but what I ask you in todays world is not a cheap knock off of something. D&D used all the mythical and fantasy ideas they could to mix it all up into a "game" did they set the precidence? No not really. As far as a game they pretty much did bu the ideas were always from litirature of some sort I agree. But then Litirature does the same thing. Just a written copy of an old tale handed down generation to generation with a slightly diffrent twist. Music is where you see this most now. Remixes and remakings of old songs. Occassionaly there is new stuff that comes by a fresh perspective but stil i wonder how long new ideas can pop up without actually stepping on someone elses copyrights. As far as Blatently stealing? yes in a way you could say that for the D&D creators but then again it was a totally diffrent medium. they were not writing a compilation litirary work. They were creating a game with a rather good idea behind it. Writing like art or games or music is just another medium. just because you have a copy right on something in one medium does not mean that it will effectively protect you from someone using it in another. I have found this out through experiance. kinda sucks but it just works that way. Luckily Tolkien was as well know as he was:)
BTW AWESOME FLICK!

Wouldn't the 'elven chainmail shirt' aka 'Mithril shirt' in AD&D be a knock off of the 'mithril shirt' from Tolkien? So if its okay for TSR to use it, then why not Varrent?
RE: Dark Elvish and High Elvish Chainmail
# May 18 2001 at 9:33 AM Rating: Default
TheIdea of Mithril wasn't even new when Tolkien used it, but it was folklore from (I believe) Scandanavia

I guess you guys never played Advanced dungeons and dragons. It's called Elven Chainmail and yes, it allows mage types to cast spells while wairing it. Same goes with the EQ version. It's pretty nifty infact :)

Last time I checked, Int casters were able to wear (some) plate too. If you want to complain about that as well, then I'll be glad to take any Eboots that you might have off of your hands.
interesting
