I would give my eye teeth for this weapon...

the affects are nice but give me a sword with stats like this any day!!!

I had a guild mate give me a shard something to use...because it had cool affects...shrug...the stats on my frozen short short...were over all better...

Keep the affects...give me the sword! When you have stats THAT good on any weapon affects are just added fluff!

RE: Verant needs to get a clue...
# Apr 25 2001 at 4:33 PM Rating: Decent
Hmmm... well yeah I can see where being a system administrator at a japanese company would automatically give you knowledge of every facet of computers.

Poly count effects the computational speed of a frame... polygons take up virtually NO memory compared to a single bitmap... I could have 4000 polygons in less memory than a single 10k bitmap. I could even add keyframe animation to the 4000v polygon and STILL not reach 10k.

I don't feel the need to tell you just how long I've been in the business... but I was programming games in assembler when the computer had 16K of RAM.

But of course, some people don't have to have any knowledge to convince themselves that their opinion is right...

Mmm, you need to get a clue. I live in Japan and most of them are clueless about computers.
They are a long way from catching the USA in IT literate people.

I live in Japan as well. I was VERY surprised how clueLESS these people are to computers. Then I was surprised by the VERY few that do, the ones you see on the satellite channels/pay per view $30 per month to see some guy teach these courses channels. But the general population... pretty much not knowledge in the computer world. You would think a country with this much technology: SONY/MITSUBHISHI/TOSHIBA/NISSAN/TOYOTA/SUBARU/MAZDA/ and so on forever... would spread they're knowledge all over the place. Still surprises me.

statue hits for 1100
Statue of Rallos Zek
# Apr 25 2001 at 12:36 PM Rating: Decent
Not as hard as his partner, Avatar of Rallos Zek which is a triggered spawn from the Statue. Statue hits for 850s? Maybe less. Avatar smacks for about 1050 with his backhand. Any mob can be overcome in the game. One mob i want to see go down is one you may not have heard of before... no question the hardest NPC in the game. The Keymasters in PoA. They werent made to kill but they do hit for 1850. Nothing less, nothing more 1850, everytime. Going to take alot of pallies to DA tank his ***.

Statue does hit for 1100. I got riposted by him 3 times the last time we took him down, once for 960, twice for 1100.

I just thought I would add that its weight is only .1! You wont lose any stamina when meleeing with it. Be you a warrior, shadow knight, or who ever. Very nice item.

A lot of people aren't going to see that benefit, but you're right it is key.
New graphics
# Apr 25 2001 at 12:29 PM Rating: Decent
Sheesh people... if they made a new graphic for every item in the game, you'd spend about 20 minutes logging in, require about a gig of ram, a 256M graphics card, and about 10 gig hard drive space... and that's just an estimate for the items CURRENTLY in game.

Sure it would look SOOO pretty, but you'd never get to play!

Oh and by the way, the LARGEST first-person games have like a couple dozen models in them... maybe a dozen weapon graphics... and maybe two dozen level textures.

EQ has over 200 models, thousands of item graphics, and probably tens of thousands of level textures.

EQ probably also has one of the biggest, most talented art staffs in games today, second only to companies like Squaresoft...

I think they've done a damn fine job, and personally I'd rather play the game then spend half an hour loading graphics so someone can show me their fancy sword.

Im Seeing alot of talk of Graphics
# Jul 29 2001 at 7:55 AM Rating: Decent
While I think its a little silly sometimes the way they do the graphics ((Mithril 2h looks like a FS 2h..)) Overall it doesnt matter, gameplay is what makes a game. Also keep in mind how long the games been out. Sure, some of our Monster 1.5gig P4s with 2gigs of Ram ((I dont know why i have that much but if Star Wars Gallaxies Really doesnt have zone lines Im sure Ill have a use)) and a 128meg Graphics card. But what about all those people who have been playing Since Beta? Theyve got lvl 60 chars with uber rare loot and you want something so trivial as a graphics update to put em out. Lower Sys req means more people can run the game, means verant gets more money. Verants not stupid they've got great marketing people, and know how to keep people in the game. Im sure Luclin will take care of all you graphic junkies though at least for a while til you get your p5 3k with 20gigs of RaM and a GOD 560mb graphic card. Just a little though, The movie the cell had great special effects but it BLEW GOATS!!!

IM glad you mentioned squarsoft if only verant could score themselves some joint contracts with square....Now to dream of Wielding Ultima Weapon and Equiping My Zedrich
RE: New graphics
# Apr 25 2001 at 10:54 PM Rating: Default
I don't design games but I am pretty intelligent....

I do know what they could do though... And that would be to swap out textures/models...

The only textures/models that are important are the ones that you can see so why not swap out textures/models for items a certain distance away for ones that are within that distance?

Then you would not be loading EVERY texture/model everytime you zone.
RE: New graphics
# Jun 30 2001 at 2:21 AM Rating: Default
considering 30-50 people on a raid, all of different classes each with different weapons possibly two each and armor etc etc, it adds up, hell it adds up already with all the different epics around. :) when eq was made the limitations were more strict and i'm sure the client is still based around those system requirements. Wait till luclin i think we'll see some nice equipment models in it.
#Anonymous, Posted: Apr 25 2001 at 6:32 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) Ok, for those who are drooling at this sword. Of course as a bard I would die a few times to get this, and 10AC and 10str is very nice, but I've also heard this big rock is very hard to kill, and there are ratios even better than this in Dragon Necropolis. Anyone seen that shadowknight sword that's 20dam, 23 delay? Now that is a ratio to be proud of. Anyways, not to overly knock the weapon, it's quite good afterall, and neat graphics are always nice, but hey! I have to agree with the early post, it is difficult to keep adding new textures to the game when you are dealing with meeting the minimum hardware req's for the game. Oh well. I'd love to have it, as far as that goes. Good hunting everyone!

Well...as for the SK sword, its the only weapon they will wield, since they cannot dual wield. So when you consider it vs a paladin or SK weapon your compairing apples and oranges. I know gorlab and the other person who has this weapon on Prexus. Its sweet stats, but gawd awful looking. And VI could give it a better look than a yak, it doesn't take that much. Look at some of the new weapons graphics. It should unique coming from a hard mob to kill.
The reason there are not many new graphics
# Apr 25 2001 at 6:17 AM Rating: Default
is because each of those "sexy looking swords" needs its own unique texture/model and as some of you might know, you cannot upgrade you gfx cards texture memory, so they are limited by the hardware, nothing more.
#REDACTED, Posted: Apr 25 2001 at 12:13 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) For those of you complaining about new graphics (im actually going on verant defensive, jes can you say crack), ever tried to build such an expansive 3D world which you can update so much. I would find it great to just wield the nightgrowth blade because that has got to be one of the best looks, second to the epic's. If you really wanna complain about something, do it the lack of the overall major plot and lack of interactiveness, considering there are no like neriak quests to take plans to the crushbone citadel and hand them to the warlord, and you get to command like 10 orcs to attack a certain target inside kelethin, now doesnt that sound like a plot and some interactive play?
#Anonymous, Posted: Apr 24 2001 at 10:31 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) Look at that Weight. Boy this would be really great for my lvl 2 monk. Can I solo the Statue of Zeek at lvl 2? I will I need a ranger to help heal me?
#REDACTED, Posted: Apr 25 2001 at 2:10 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) Not at level 2, but maybe in a few more... say level 10 or so, but not solo. You'd definitely need an enchanter to do some DD for you. Should be an easy fight in that case.
#Anonymous, Posted: Apr 26 2001 at 8:32 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) dont forget a cleric to melee and maybee if you're lucky enough grab a wizzy to buff you with the 2 pt dmg shield
#Anonymous, Posted: Apr 24 2001 at 9:49 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) man, this sword is awesome, primary and secondary? god I dunno about 50+ but my 36 warrior is frothing at the mouth
hehe
# Apr 24 2001 at 11:15 PM Rating: Decent
Price? I hope you are kidding :)

With that ratio and 10AC I don't see anyone selling these in EC for a few years yet. Heck, I'd go out on a limb and say that this is the best weapon in the game for a Warrior except perhaps the Primal items.
#Anonymous, Posted: Apr 24 2001 at 9:10 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) old yak graphix or newer yak graphix?
very nice

Yak? With horns and everything? Does it wallow in its own filth? No, wait...that's you.

THIS RULES...I would use it if it looked like rusty short sword.

Aye the stats are all important but wouldnt it be nice to have a unique look so when you go running past people turn to look and see who that was that just ran past with that sexy sword
Something new please!!!

Very tired of Verant recycling the same old boring graphics for every new item they add. They need to hire some new creative talent to start decorating the game a little more.

The look is that of a Yak unfortunately. Plain old Yak icon and graphic.
