Nice Belt -- Will be a great upgrade to my Crystalline Belt. Planning to go to Skyshrine tonight and forage away. Good luck to all those trying to get drake eggs <Including me> :)

Very Nice How to, im shocked to see someone put something like that in discussion, usually they just talk about the item, Great Job. I just bought Cobalt Drake Belt, and Cloak for 6,840pp and a Crushed Flame Opal Gem. Must of been lucky day for me! Safe journies ahead all!
Gathering the Drake Eggs
# Nov 16 2001 at 12:17 PM Rating: Decent
I have a great way of foraging eggs and practicing your swimming at the same time. The Pool surrounding the CS portal is a great place to forage Drake Eggs. About one in five attempts.
While I was waiting around , ( didn't want to ruin my CoV faction by hunting there) I went swimming. If you stick you head into the corner of the pool and press forward and Num lock you will continue to swim indefinitely. What's nice is if you have an extinguish fatigue spell, you can cast it while swimming and advance you skill rapidly. I also foraged right there in the corners for all my eggs...

Just an Idea

CS Drake Level
# Aug 02 2001 at 4:54 PM Rating: Decent
Drakes are approx level 40, some lower into the 30s. Because at 54, the lowest blue is lvl 40, highest green 39, several have conned green to me, though there are some still blue... similar to Wyverns, but minimum level is like 1 higher.. even though everything at this level is really a undercon, wer'e just so used to it, we're scared of blues and many times greens.. remember lower levels you'd see a yellow, or an even, and think "ooh i can take him down easy"
BTWI have sold Drake eggs for approx 20pp each.. and I have ate waaay to many accidently =) many tailors on BB are out to get me!! (especially Bythlon!)
One success in 9 attempts at skill 68!
# Jul 16 2001 at 12:27 AM Rating: Decent
Today is my day I tell ya. The number of drake eggs I've ever foraged in SS is only 10 and after I made my belt I still have one oil left. I began making the belt at skill 44 then I went to kill hundreds of giant spiders until 67. My last failure in making this belt got me to 68, then I had a success. Purely luck? Yes, maybe. But since there is no trivial level in making these armors, I wonder if yor skill level will be ever checked. I am not sure bout it but I still gave it a try whenever I have the recipes (partially for cleaning my inventory, heh, since the hides can't be stacked).

It's quite like a gamble. But if you got one success in 10 or 20 attemps at skill 250 and I got one success in 10 attemps at skill 68, and there is no trivial level, what would you think? I dunno... Let's find out. :)
Drake hide belts

OK, this belt is sweet! No dought about it.

As for trivials, Velious leathers NEVER trivial out. Even at 250. If you do not believe me, go to EQTraders and see what the Denmother talks about.

I am at skill 133 now, but at skill 132 I attempted 2 tries at this belt. ANd had 2 successes! I now am going to trade/sell one for more cash to buy more tailoring components with and I am giving the other to a guildmate.

As a side note. These belts are Expensive! 10-15kpp and if someone is selling lower, it is because they do not know what they have.

I traded one of the belts I made earlier for a Golem Tear ring, a Book of Strategy and 5kpp.

If you want one of these belts, get a friend with a high skill, get them the items to ,make it and start praying. You are going to need it.

Before I got my skill up, took my guildmate 40+ tries at a skill of 160 to make my belt.

It's not cast randomly, the AE damage only goes off when the cobalt drake melees. Stay out of melee range and you won't have any Frosty Death.
Oh, and at this time ALL Velious tailored items are still nontrivial at 250.
(Well, other than crystalline silk armor, making swatches of crystalline or ice burrower silk, and items related to the coldain prayer shawl series of quests...)

Many Velious items are still worth attempting far below their trivial level though, if you can accept the minimum success rate of 5% (or 3% as some people on EQTraders message boards are suggesting, as people have larger and larger sample sizes in their experiments).

they've hit me while i was out of melee with the aoe, however they dont seem to cast it while rooted

Velious Tailoring
# May 15 2001 at 5:15 PM Rating: Default
I've been told by a friend that 220+ is the skill requirement for trivials on the Velious tailoring. I'm trying to help him gain skill by providing skins and components. He's only got a 152 or 153 skill now though, but its climbing slowly...I think this will be last on my list as it takes a God aweful long time to get the stupid drake eggs/oil.

#Anonymous, Posted: Apr 21 2001 at 5:51 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) Glad to see that Verant has put more time into player's craft skills. All these different recipies are really nice to see. admitidly, I have no use for most of these items, but it is obvious the thought is there. Just a random posting......
Very difficult to make
# Apr 20 2001 at 6:43 PM Rating: Default
This is one of the best wisdom belts in the game. However, the difficulty of making it more than justifies its quality.

It appears that none of the Velious leather or fur tailored items are ever trivial. There is at least 1 tailor in the game that have a skill of 250. They have not found a trivial for any of these recipes and have confirmed that several of them are definitely not trivial at 250.

Each attempt to make this belt requires 2 velium tempers (28pp each), 2 small bricks of velium (dropped by a number of 30+ mobs in different velious zones), 1 drake egg (foraged in Skyshrine or dropped by named drakes in that zone) and 1 Cobalt Drake Hide (about a 1 in 5 drop from drakes in Cobalt Scar, level 40+ with AE damage and debuff attacks).

I have been attempting other velious leathers so far...
At skill 134-135 it took me 18 attempts to make one studded arctic wyvern mask.
At skill 138-139 it took me 12 attempts to make one black panther leggings.

Anyway, a little walkthrough on how you'd make one...

=== The pelts ===
The cobalt drakes in cobalt scar aren't necessarily that difficult. Under all circumstances, do not let the drake melee--he has a breath proc, an AE 300 point dd + dispell. Used to be 1000 damage but it was scaled back. This AE breath attack has a HUGE range, comparable to Vox/Nagafen (some have said larger?!). You will make a lot of people upset if they are on the beach and repeatedly hit by your drake's breath....The drakes must be killed by spells without letting them hit you.

How you'd kill them them depends on your class:
If you're a druid like me, and in the upper 40's or 50's...soloing them works well. It's tedious but it works. Ensnare, then root/dot/meditate/repeat. I'm a 52 druid, and it takes me about 5 minutes to kill one, and another 3 or 4 minutes to meditate the mana back to full mana (I'm left at about 60%). Drakes are level 44 so they give decent exp. (Edit: Bah! They lowered the level on us, they're not 44 anymore. They have less hp now too, but that doesn't make them a whole lot easier to hunt.)
If you're a wizard, I've heard they are soloable too, probably with a similar technique. A 56 wizard said it uses up 70% of his mana to kill one, though the fight is much shorter. My guildmate, a 52 wizard, has been soloing them as well, though he has been killed many times in the process.

Other casters will want to group with someone that can snare and use a similar method. If you can't find someone who can snare, you'll
probably want to group and stand on opposite sides of the drake, trying to make it fly back and forth in the middle by alternating casting. Being able to root it in the middle before the fight would probably help too. This is much riskier but I've heard it can be effective once you get it down.

If you're a melee type...buy your pelts from others, or have guildmates hunt them for you. I suppose if you had one person that could snare and one person that could fear, then a few tanks could try to kill the drake VERY quickly...but because of the random duration of fear this is very dangerous. The two casters would be better off fighting the drakes on their own.

Note that wyverns and drakes are social--they will join the fight if you are close enough. For me the best place to fight the drakes has been near their patrol paths, but right up against the east zone wall.

There are 4 drakes in the zone if I remember right. Learn their patrol paths--one on the south side flies east/west along a line, one in the southeast corner by the dragon circle flies in a triangle pattern, and two on the east side fly north/south. Their paths overlap a little, so make sure you catch the drake when it's somewhere in the middle of its route so another drake doesn't join in. Staying against the zone wall should keep the wyverns from joining in, except for the wyvern on the south side--haven't found a good way to fight him yet. Usually by the time I've killed the other three they've started to repop.

Being non-KOS to dragons (ClawsofVeeshan) makes hunting in cobalt scar much easier. You can travel almost anywhere on land safely, and walk right up to the drakes and wyverns without them attacking you while you're setting up or meditating. It makes entering cobalt scar safer too, since you can be teleported over without worrying about whether the drake in the corner will attack as soon as you zone in (which happens often). Even though the drakes and wyverns are on ClawsofVeeshan faction, you will NOT take any faction hits from killing them unless you fight the named ones Yvolcarn and Azureake. If you haven't killed anything on ClawsofVeeshan faction yet, expect to kill about 300 frost giants/drakkel dire wolves/etc. to get to dubious. Should be less if you fight the Kromzek in Kael, from what I've heard...

Anyway...that's how you'd get the drake pelts. They do seem to be about a 1 in 5 drop. They are probably the second most difficult pelts to get for tailoring, the most difficult probably being haze panther hides due to haze panthers being a somewhat rare spawn (and having a similar drop rate).

=== The bonings ===
For small bricks of velium, the easiest way to get them is to sweep through the orc miners in the crystal caverns. A high level druid/monk combination works well. If you're lucky you might get other loot from the crystal caverns in the process. Keep in mind that other people want to hunt there for exp though...
I've heard that Velketor's Labyrinth near the entrance is good too, and will give 40's/50's exp too. I haven't tried it, but unless the drop rate is significantly higher there, the orc miners are better if all you're interested in is the velium.

Other places, according to EQ Traders' Corner(www.eqtraders.com): "various mobs in Tower of Frozen Shadow (5th floor, especially), sentries and such in Skyshrine, and various spider and golem-type creatures in other zones (Velketor's Labyrinth, underneath Icewell Keep, etc.)"

To make the bonings:
Combine 1 file, 1 small brick of velium and 1 coldain velium temper. The coldain velium temper is sold in the little rogue guild in Thurgadin. If you're KOS to the dwarves, you'll have to get someone else to buy them for you--this is the only known place to get it. Minimum cost is 26.25pp. The bonings are light and stackable, so you'll want to convert the bricks to bonings often. Trivial with smithing skill under 80, according to EQTraders.

=== The drake eggs ===
This has been by far the most difficult tailoring component for me to get. Other people have reported foraging one every half hour in Skyshrine. Two hours of foraging there with 200 skill has gotten me nothing.

They are also rare drops from named wyverns in Skyshrine. I cannot fight them because I'm trying to keep my ClawsofVeeshan faction up. My bard will hunt them eventually...

Drake eggs are edible, I've been told. Make sure you don't eat them! Bring plenty of other food.

Going rate on drake eggs seems to be 50pp, from what I've read. I have not been able to buy any yet. Even when I offer yew leaves for trade...

If you do get a drake egg, combine that and a flask of water in a brew barrel to get the drake egg oil.

=== Putting it all together ===
In a coldain tanning kit (available only in the Thurgadin bank for 10.5pp, has 8 giant slots and weighs 2) combine...
* 1 cobalt drake hide
* 2 velium bonings (unstacked)
* 1 drake egg oil
* 1 belt pattern (if you have the tailoring skill to attempt this, you know where to get it--again see EQTraders)

Then, if you're extremely lucky, you'll end up with your very own Cobalt Drake Belt. Until your skill is 200+ or so, expect about a 5% success rate at any skill level. I imagine these should sell for 10k+. I'm not selling mine once I've made one though. :)
