This is trivial at 308. At Max skill I fail about one third of the time.

How difficult is it to get one?
# Jun 18 2001 at 8:52 PM Rating: Decent
Ok, my chanter has a strong desire to get one of these caps. So strong that I'd decided to start building up points in tailoring. Then I discovered that to do tailoring, I'd need to get those metal studs. So, I spent a couple days building up my blacksmithing skill to make studs without difficulty. Then I found out that I also need those Heady Kiolas. So I spent a couple days working my brewing skills. I've gotten my brewing and smithing skills up in the 140's, but my tailoring skill (the one I've been wanting to buidl in the first place) is still down in the 80's. Now I find out i've got to build up my pottery skills to make poison vials so I can make mana vials. Then I'd be able to get my skills up to around 150. I see nothing that lies between the 150's and the 250+ that this guy requires.
Now, I have to ask myself, is it all going to be worth it? If I can buy one of these for 10kpp, it would seem a much easier goal to raise the money. Then, how would I find someone who's selling one. Are there typically grand master tailors at the kelethin market with the supplies for making one of these? How can I get one?
The stat's on this look like it would be almost equivalent to 1/2 of a serpent staff, so this would be kind of like a mini epic quest... collect 10kpp and find someone selling it. If you're on Solusek Ro and can make one of these (or are selling one), I'd like to hear from you.

FYI Poison Vials are NPC bought in tunnels in Freeport. Opposite side of town as POK book. It is yet another hidden tunnel behind a wall. Good luck on your tailoring.. :-)

myself as a halfling the cultural armor is the best way to get from 150 and up. actually it starts at 108 and will take me to 250. i am sure there must be other things that will do it too. hope it helps

why build all the skills and waste your time when u can buy the brewing items and smithing items? build up the tailoring skill because its obviously the key :)

The time it takes to build up brewing and smithing are insignificant compared to the time needed to get your tailoring to the point where you can make these with any reliability (somewhere over 200).
Supposedly there's something in the works to bridge the 158-212 gap, probably geared towards int casters (and perhaps using those robe patterns that currently have no known use). Until then you can do what the rest of us have been doing: spending hundreds of hours and thousands of platinum skilling up on velious tailored items, the ones that are all nontrivial at skill 250.
If you don't care about othmir faction, try skilling up on othmir fur caps. Otherwise go for arctic wyvern items--cloaks or possibly caps if you need more money, otherwise masks.
Or you could do what a lot of people are doing and waiting for the 158-212 bridge...better yet, experimenting and trying to find the bridge items.

(Fleeting quivers could also be used to skill up, but due to the rarity of HQ lion skins I wouldn't recommend it.)

Oh, another thing to keep in mind...only one trade skill can go over 200, and there's currently no way to reset trade skills if you change your mind like you can with specializations. Not to try to discourage you, becoming a 250 tailor will be well worth it.
#Anonymous, Posted: May 02 2001 at 4:34 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) i just love how people drop these insaingly high prices on idems...i realise with the stats on this idem that it is not intended for a lvl 1 to own...but face it, by the time you reach lvl 60...what the heck do you need if for if all your going to do is farm idems to twink your new characters *sigh. it would be nice to make some very nice high end idems that say a lvl 30 could actually go out and make or quest without the aid of her entire guild of lvl 55+ friends.

Get to 60 before you say just what 60s do, and have equipment wise.
I'm a nice Jewler!!
# Apr 25 2001 at 2:01 AM Rating: Excellent
I know what I'm going for after Jewlery making ;)

And BTW, I don't charge anything for just hitting combine (I'm not a master, but still), and I'll even make lower jewlery for people for free sometimes.. but I should really stop, so that lower skill jelwers can make money (I never did. :/ )

Looking back at this post, I see that I was scored pretty low, for saying basically that I'm not greedy, and I'm not going to ask an outrageous ammount to click my mouse a couple times on my downtime.

Funny that generous people or those that are just trying to be friendly or kind are scorned by others.. makes you wonder why everyone is sooo haughty and greedy in a game. ?_?
Cost of Tailoring
# Apr 18 2001 at 3:03 AM Rating: Excellent
If you look at the cost of making 1 of these, I can mildly agree with you that they are less inexpensive than say, buying a similar item from a player. But this totally fails to take into consideration that after skill 131 in tailoring, we races without racial tailoring (human mage in my case) pay through the nose for every point (and all races do after thier racial goes trivial). If you go the "cheapest route" using say, Arctic Wyvern Hide, its about 55pp per attempt, that is if you hunted/fished all the items concerned. (Cheapest for a human mage at least, can't forage Drake Eggs and I 100% despise Yew Leaf hunts.)

Consider that I fail 95% of these items, and, unlike jewelry, I cannot just buy my way through skill (and promptly sell the items to a player for a profit, or a vendor for a minor loss), you see where this becomes disconcerting at the very least. Consider also, that it takes me about 40 velious tailored items to get a single skill point. Then add in the fact that *if* I succeed in creating an item, it normally goes to whomever provided the materials to me in hopes that I could make them this or that. I literally haven't made so much as a copper with my skill. Admittedly, there is no way on earth I could charge someone anything for me just hitting combine, after all, it's free practice, I wish I could say the same for all the 250ish Jewelers I know.. 500pp just to hit combine. oy.

Then we need to add in the final element of the Ice Silk. The dropped part. Consider the really big leeches in Firiona Vie and Swamp of No hope. Now, make them bigger. No, bigger than that. Then make them around level 60. Then stick them in a zone full of dragons, Velium Hounds, etc. Now let these worm things hit for about 300, and each needs a solid 2 group force, more if needed. Now add in the fact that your main reason for killing these creatures is to get 1 person a tradeskill item that they may or may not succeed on, that will most likely either be garbage or, at the least, sheerly mediocre for the level. Then promptly smack Yakitzma on the noggin for making these silks into the most annoying thing in EQ, now that LD doesn't kill my summoned goodies. (Summoned bags are now useful. Who knew =P)

#Anonymous, Posted: Apr 17 2001 at 3:11 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) im lv16 enchantress, and i get realy dissapointed, that only if u r twink or very high lv50+ u will be able to make some nice things. Verant where r some nice magic recipes that a normal player character can make? i would like to be make a low lv bracer with for example ac3 +1INT or CHAR or what ever, having to do a quest or something to get the ingredients, but to see, that only if i level and level and level i can make some nice things makes me sad. Where is the roleplaying?

im sorry, but i think you misunderstand the word roleplay. To roleplay is to take on the aspects and mannerisms that characterize a person and act as if you were that person.
I think you mean Moral.
As in 'The moral of the story is:'
But that really doesnt fit either.

bristlebane
# Apr 16 2001 at 7:51 PM Rating: Default
anyone on bristlebane making these?
Yes it costs a bundle
# Apr 16 2001 at 6:21 PM Rating: Decent
It takes
-Ice Burrower Silk Swatches(from lvl 60 Ice Burrowers... 2 silks = 1 swatch)
-a vial of purified mana (lined poison vial + 4 rubies) 530pp
-pattern
-platinum thread 260pp

--> At least 800pp per try! And it's trivial 250+ (at least for the cap)
how is this made?
# Apr 16 2001 at 4:58 PM Rating: Default
this is a great enchanter cap!
with this cap i could free up intelligence in other slots to add more cha and ac then i would get from other caps alone.

Actually, no. It doesn't cost a bundle to make. It's just that the Ice Silk is really rare. Rare only because it drops off level 60 critters in only one zone.
It takes 4 Ice Burrower Silks to make the 2 Swatches you need to make this cap. The cap isn't trivial to make at 250 either.
You also need 1 platinum thread (~250pp), and 1 Vial of Purified Mana (~440pp).
Getting the thread is easy, vendors sell it. Getting the purified mana is a pretty simple thing. Most enchanters are happy to use that spell as long as you have the reagents. Getting a skill upwards of 250 to make these items is probably the hardest part.

I'd say, that after you account for all of that, This cap is probably worth around 10K. Rare enough, but not it's not lore, and it's player made. I think 10kpp is about right.
