I have been reading pasts post on these creatureds and found some of them to be inaccurate now. The Rancorous Ghasts appear betw 6PM and 6AM and can be anywhere in zone but mostly stay North of Obelisk. I had in 1 EQ night found up to 5 Ghasts in one night with a Druid helping track.

This is not an instant effect...it is a right clicky spell. Clues to this are it says it is Triggered. If it was an instant effect it would say Combat or Worn. ;-)

2nd quest - 1 evening
# Feb 16 2003 at 3:20 PM Rating: Excellent
Here is what worked for me. Did this second quest in one evening. The firsr quest took a few days to kill enough Ghasts to get the 4 hearts but thats the way it is.

For the second quest... I had just handed in the 4 hearts and headed to Lfay. I took some advise from some of these posts.
- I put on the neck piece from the first quest
- about 4-6pm EQ time i went to the haunted shrine. Taking advice from these posts I killed any mob at the shrine that was NOT a skelly. Keep this up as the pop.
- When all four mob's were skellies I only killed the one on the bottom step. I did this until 12 midnight EQ time, (only twice).
- The bottom skelly was dead at 12. About 1-2am EQ time... POP, there is the necro. Killed him np (I'm 54 Druid).
- Then ran East tracking the courier till i found him. Got him before he reached the Tier'Dal camp.

- Equestrielle was not up so that should put the rumor rest that she must be up.

Hope this helps.

K I am working on the initaite quest. Obviously I already have the bones, that's the easy part. I'm looking for the putrescent hearts or whatever they're called. I found 3 of them so far, 2 I paid 50pp each for because my friends druid was only 18 and didn't have track. We found the other once my friends druid got track at 20. so we were sitting by the obelisk because we were told that the ghasts spawn by places where undead spawn (pretty obvious I know). We sat there about 2 hours just killing the skeles and mummies waiting for the ghasts to spawn and guess what...necro and goblin boss spawn... heheh. I killed the boss/necro with no problem (46 shammy, really really easy, although boss was dark blue to me, which raises questions to the level for this quest...but..) boss was pretty easy, rooted and Dotted. As soon as the necro died, like all the other posts, I gated back to the zone line for Gay, right after the path turns right, and we saw the runner. Runner was cake (still talking about my 46 shammy, my 18 druid didn't even see it, we were grouped so he got to loot). So I guess we got pretty lucky, it seems that others have to wait days, but just so you know out there, we got our disciple items in about 2 hours of waiting. Now if we could only find another ghast with a heart on it heheheh...
Multi questing

Multi questing means simply this: When you are questing an item that has multiple pieces to turn in, such as the ghast hearts in this instance. You may turn in 2 of them and someone else may turn in the other 2. WARNING: You must be the last person to turn in any item in a multi-quest or your friend will recieve the item -or- be denied by the task master and lose half of your pieces.

The GM's will tell you this: If you foul up a quest, pay attention to what the taskmaster tells you, you are missing. You must quickly get those items and turn them in to complete the quest. DO NOT LOG OFF, or you will lose everything, and the NPC resets himself as if you'd never turned anything in at all.

Well at level 59 I decided to go back and finish up this quest, as I LDoN in MM all the time and sometime when I passed the Necro just happened to be up. Anyhow, I had long ago thrown away my Initiate Symbol of Tunare, and turned in the stuff without realizing this. I hunted Ghasts until I couldn't stay on any longer, then came back the next day, got my 4th heart and turned it in. Followed that up by just turning in the symbol. Quest worked fine.

So You can log off and finish your quest later. At least this one.
RE: Multi questing
# Aug 28 2003 at 9:31 PM Rating: Decent
This is not 100% correct. The NPC does not reset himself after logging off. I tried to MQ a quest for Tunarian Gloves and the MQ went sour because the ranger with Vindi's head was not 55. We could do nothing about it and gave up with me very mad. The next day a friend of mine saw a Vindi raid happening, logged on my druid and looted the head. I was able to then turn in the vindi head a full 24 hours after the other 3 were turned in. (Lucky for me this is not a common quest)

I'm not sure where the DE courier spawns, but I know he heads to the DE camp on the southern wall from the northeast. Have someone with track help you find him.

I've done this quest three times, and the way I did it each time (as a druid) was that, as soon as I kill the necro, head east while checking track repeatedly (though don't head too far east. He is going to the DE camp, after all). It shouldn't be long before you see the courier.

I found him each time in the area around orc camps(numbers 6 and 11 on the EQ Atlas map).
Makeing necro spawn
# May 19 2002 at 9:22 AM Rating: Decent
Just got done killing the little bugger.
this is what i did, i think for the necro to spawn u need to clear out the hole camp.
At when the Game time turns 12PM wait 2 mins clear out all 4 spawns, when the other 3 (not the ph) kill them 2-3 hrs later so when the PH pops there will be nothing elce except himself....he should spawn at about 7, if he didnt spawn do the same thing. kill him then make sure u kill other undead befor he pops again.
sent a reply if u have any good luck..
and one more thing...when i killed him he poped again right after the Dark elf guy
i shouted in zone for like 3 hrs trying to geta druid or cleric to kill him so they dont have to go thorugh what i went to.

Is Yeolarn supposed to give you back the two heads and crate? He gave them back to me and I have no idea what I'm supposed to do with them. Upgrade to warden, then do the first quest again or something? Then I can complete the second one pretty fast.
RE: Item returns
# May 16 2002 at 7:49 AM Rating: Decent
Did you give the 1st item to him along with the 2 heads and crate as well? You sure you gave it to the right NPC?
RE: Item returns
# May 16 2002 at 11:08 AM Rating: Decent
Yes I gave him the initiate symbol, the crate, and the two heads. He gave me the disciple symbol which ended up in my inventory, and the heads and crate were all on my mouse floating in the air. He said he has no use for them and yes I gave it to the right guy in the cleric guild in Felwithe called Yeolarn. Oh, I think this is because of the return item thing that was installed not too long ago. NPCs return things that they have no need for. That reminds me, I gave the banker in Qeynos ... I think... some fruit or something (no value) and he returned it and gave some copper to me. That is weird. I don't think it was cuz he thought I was so poor that he'd spare me a few copper... Or is it possible I picked up the item while some copper was on my mouse?

Maybe someone else had given him the heads and the crate but not the symbol. So when you handed in the symbol, he had no need for the other items and gave them back.

That's all I can think of.

I finished this part of the quest quickly. I am still looking for my forth ghast heart, but the necro and courier seemed to be a quick part of the quest while multi-questing for the ghast hearts and killing thistle Underbrush when he pop'd. I had little problem with Equestielle, but that was all luck as she just wasn't up the day it took me to finish the necro and courier. Anyway this is what I did:

1. Bound to Gfay zone just alittle down path.

2. Killed spawn at 1pm game time as earlier suggested.

3. Waited and got lucky on second spawn. Necro pop'd and I just started blasting...went down quick for a 32 Druid.

4. Looted quickly and gated to Gfay zone. I turned toward zone and saw the courier just standing there (must have just spawned).

5. Blasted the courier...I tried to ensnare first, but he resisted so I just nuked. Had to run him down, but he was almost dead so was easy.

It hasn't really taken long to get the 3 ghast hearts that I have now because I run into zone periodically...if ghasts are up I kill'em. Otherwise it would be frustrating.

Hope this helps as much as all the previuos posts helped me.

jaimeg, nice info.. thanks.. it helped on my camp
I multiquested the Ghast hearts and the Necro/Courier at the same time and I will try to give as much info as I possible can on how I did it.
I was a level 25 druid with wolfform ALWAYS on 24/7. I Binded myself at the entrance to Gfay and headed out toward the undead camp Obelisk. When you get there, pay attention to the two Skele/Mummy MOB's that spawn on the steps. The top one I was told was part of the camp yet I did not bother to time the kills I made. The camp spawn point you should pay attention too is the BOTTOM step camp as thats the one that is the place holder for the Necro. I heard rumors/stories that you need to kill the MOB at noon or 1pm... I waited until 2pm attack and rekilled the spawn at 7-8pm. The necro spawned for me at 2am on the dot and he imediately attack me as he entered into the world. After 3 Careless lightings.... he went down. I looted instantly and bolted over to the Dark Elf camp. *Tip: use Track and follow after the Teir'Da or the Dragoon Leader so you don't get lost*. Once I was in the area.. I headed WEST of the DE Camp I waited a few moments {45-60 seonds) til the courier was on track. He was coming along the Zone wall heading EAST and waswas running VERY fast. Not quite Sow speed but close enough. *I verified from another guild member that also did this quest that the courier headed SOUTH from the Gfay zone line and then headed EAST along the same path*
Thankfully Verant made the Necro and the Courier with an UBER high agro area so he found me and attacked before I even got the chance to through off the first spell. the Courier attacked for 13-30HP per hit and casted a spell for 5-14hp. A real weekling but with quite a bit of hitpoints *4-5 lightings I recall* for his light blue level.
I looted and gave a few shout outs to the rest of the 2 people in the zone. "WoooooT!"

-Tips and Hints for MULTI-QUESTING for the Necklace's.
----------------------------
-Always have Wolfform up if your a druid. Brownie scouts will attack you on site if your not in wolfform. They are indifferent to you while your the mutt.
-Ghasts Appear between 10pm and 6am (verified this myself as I camped this zone)
-Ghasts only spawn 2-3 times per night. If you happend to kill 3 in one night.. leave or find something else useful to kill as no more will appear til the next night
-Turning in Bonechips to the Cleric guild WILL trigger the ghasts to spawn that evening. I have verified this to be true for 5 EQ nights in a row.
-Ghasts drop the heart 1 in 3to5 times.
-Ghasts most often appear on the WESTERN half of the zone. I have never seen the Ghasts appear east of the Obelisk but I could be wrong.
-Mummy's and Skele's ARE the place holders. Start killing them around 7pm to empty the the PH.
-Ghasts will NOT appear in the daytime but I did see one on track at 7am only to lose it just as 8am rolled around. That person who said it appeared at 2-4pm is on Crack. IF it did appear, then it was a fluke.
-Watch out for Equestria the Corrupted. That horse is NASTY and is triggered when someone kills a Tainted/Corrupted Brownie.
-Make a few plat by helping out a fellow high level druid with his/her epic. If you track a "PAINED UNICORN" {don't worry, he's amible to you}, send that druid a tell so they don't have to wait around in the zone for hours/days/weeks at a time. A druid gave me around 50 plat to give them a tell when pained showed up.. he was most pleased as he got that tell. As a further reward, he killed Thistle for me and gave me the Braided ivy cords that it dropped. =) I was a happy druid.

Hope this mini walkthrough and tip section helps in your quest for this awesome no mana root spell.

Found one yesterday walking from the Steamfont zone towards the obelisk. Don't know if spawned there, or if it had walked to Steamfont and had turned around.

I killed one at 11 AM (EQ time) - can't say when it spawned, so probably was left over from the night before.

Avoiding that horse
# Mar 15 2002 at 8:55 AM Rating: Decent
I just finished this and here's how I managed (thank's to many of the people who wrote here, btw). I bound myself on the path coming out of GFay, at the second little bend. Ran out to the obelisk, harmonied the skellie on the second step and pulled the one on the lower step, killing it at exactly 2pm Norrath time. Now, I parked myself VERY close to the steps, just to the north side and kept Equestrielle on track...ALWAYS "straight ahead". He will circle you and, if you use a far view, you'll even see him run past on the west side a couple times. Only when I turned my back to him did he attack me (and I managed to gate out. He fears you but as soon as it wears off, he runs, but only if you aren't running...or so I've noticed 3 or 4xs now.)

When the spawn pops (5 norrath hours later), if it is the necro, you're close enough he agros immediately without casting a pet. Kill him, gate IMMEDIATELY (don't loot), and the courier (for me anyway) was just up the path. No tracking necessary. I hit him with a quick and long distant spell, meleed and blasted a few, and it was done. Loot and run back to loot necro. (Avoiding that horse! Hehe)

A word of advice, this is a good time to learn to bake. BORING wait. Bring batwings, fresh fish and a spit, but always be ready to gate if that horse comes at you.

Need help with this quest

I have been trying to complete this quest for some time now and am in need of some eldery advice. Every single time I try camping to make the necro spawn I have a run in with Equestrielle the Corrupted. Does anyone know how often the necro pops once you kill his PH, is it a timed spawn or just a random spaw?

If there are any uber players out there that would like to aid me in my quest on this that play on the Rathe, send a tell to Bartleby.

Thanks

I had a nasty encounter with the courier, a little bit of lag and he passed me and ran straight into the DE camp, I ran after him a little too far and then to the GF zone with a hoard of DE's after me. When I went back into the zone no courrier on track so another several hr camp.

On a plus side I did get my Braided Ivy Cords from thistle while I was in there. If your lvl 29+ have a crack at thistle while your waiting, just make sure there are no brownies around or theyll help him out wolf form or not. I would wait till 29 even though hes lvl 24/25ish youll need combust or he can heal himself at about the same speed you blast him with lightning and guess wholl go oom first.

ok, this is a pretty decent item for PVP perposes, DR/PR are always welcome as druids dont really have many items that add to those resists ... AND its no drop! which means i get some more un-lootable wisdom! for a lvl 15 quest, this item is pretty decent...

Ok its nice to have these resists but when it comes to pvp we dont realy need DR nor PR. We have cures for both remember. A nechro dots you just wash it off. see him do that with your dots and he will dispell half his buffs too. Dispell is now random.

I buff up PR when fighting drachnids or other known poisening critters. When it does land I just back up and cast cure poison and minimal damage. nothing regen wount take care of.

resists are still better for PVP...sure you may be able to cure the DoT, but thats another spell slot taken up...and its more mana spent...not to mention time wasted, when you could be casting a nuke or a DoT of your own rather than casting a cure...any way you look at it, resisting is still better than taking the hit.
