New use for Wind

The value of wind has increased a bit with the LoY/PoP/LDoN expansions.

Wind bonus affects how many disease/curse counters are removed by the 44/52 LoY Aria songs.

Having said that, its important to at least equip a basic wind, 1.8 mod minimum, vs the 1.0 singing mod. The difference between 1.8 and the 2.1 on this flute is less dramatic.

In LDoN, where traps can affect the whole party, it can be helpful for the bard to help memove the disease/curse. Plus, these songs probably have the coolest graphics (pacman anyone?) we get from a song....a lot of fun at parties.

The scale should be set so that all store bought instruments have a bonus of zero. Not using the proper instrument is usually considered a penalty. With that in mind, you can reconfigure your data so that Ervaj's Flute of Flight provides +5 to the standard 25, or a 20% bonus ((test stat - store instrument stat)/store instrument stat). Lyssa's Darkwood Piccolo gives +8 or a 32% bonus. ((33-25)/25) = 8/25 or .32

This is the best method for creating some standardization for instrument bonuses using a percentage.

actually the best way to standardize it is to go with the mod based off of singing vs what you're looking at.

not all storebought instruments have teh same mod compared to singing (lute is 2.0 drum is 1.8 for example).

doin g it this way makes looking at things like the mod cap alot simpler.

Usually instruments go in secondary...that must be what's so different about this flute...

Not that it matters; I hardly ever use flutes anyway, since their effect is usually all-or-nothing, and when it's not I don't get a great enough increase to justify dropping my weapon (or my drum, as the case may be ;) )

Instruments that go in the primary hand allow the bard to arm a weapon in the offhand. It also greatly speeds an instrument switch for those times that we become the emergency crowd controller. I currently use a flawless ivory horn for these times and a minotaur horn for when I need the percentage bonus. If I had this flute, I'd dump both those items because it offers the best of both worlds.

According to Eqdiva.com... this instrument has 75% increase to song effectiveness... that... in my book... makes this a good item.

Nice thing about bards... you fit anywhere. if you are not just ESSENTIAL dealing melee damage.. then why not use songs/instruments to be more effective.

actually

There is an MR debuff on 53 mez. that's why tash breaks it. anyway using a better flute increases the MR lost, making it easier to re-mez. This could be quite useful for CC.
Ervaj should be brass

I'm pretty sure that all of the Ervaj songs in the game are brass, aren't they? (lvl 49, lvl 60)... Odd that his/her instrument would be wind...

Good point. =)
How do they calculate the percent? (NT)

Here's how.

Since I'm the one that submitted it..

Testing Methodology:
Sang Song of Twilight against myself (level 55) and recorded the MR reduction.

Equipped / MR Reduction / Instrument Multiplier:
Sung / 14 / 1.0
Storebought Flute / 25 / 1.8
Minotaur Horn / 28 / 2.0
Unicorn Horn / 30 / 2.2
Ervaj's Flute of Flight / 30 / 2.2
Lyssa's Darkwood Piccolo / 33 / 2.4

Note that the instrument multiplier is always rounded down to the nearest integer, so that if you had the Piccolo equiped, 14*2.4 = 33.6, which is then rounded down to 33.

Also note that I don't know how Allakhazam got 60.0 from those numbers; he would be better served by listing the instrument multiplier.

Some other instruments and their multipliers:
Storebought Mandolin - 2.0
Storebought Lute - 2.0
Lute of the Howler - 2.1
Kelin's Seven String Lute - 2.3
Storebought Hand Drum - 1.8
Mistmoore Battle Drum - 2.1
Nostrolo Tambourine - 2.2
Storebought Horn - 2.0

Well i like the dedication of the numbers (really helps me!) i have to point out that since you used the song on yourself it has a slight decrease in power... just like in duel. I think its 66% as powerful... so your stats would be modified slightly. Still, self songs are a great way to figure out which instrument is best, like using a dot with drums on myself, or healing with strings.

It lowers MR, so they could probably use that to calculate it. Does anyone know any other winds that allow it? I believe the MR reducing ones is one of the few that you can calculate an effect out of.
