All notes ture. But with two new expections. POP allows ogre to Skill up on Fine plate much easer and Blood Drops have become much rarer. the actuall Cost of matericals (not caculation the the money or time spent developing the skill) is ruffly 40pp for the templer, 60pp for the metal, variy price on the Gem(depending on Shaman aviliability) or around 150pp to make not including combinde failures.
Worth it?

How much is this thing to make? I mean, weight is decent, AC of a breastplate, and STR is a nice bonus. The biggest plus is shamans can wear it.

not really for this piece, but for a collar or a mask then yes...a high ac mask with +str, wow or even a cloak or pauldron/mantle. I just wish there was one ogre smith capable of creating an imbuned visor for me.

As with most trade items of this type it hits the tradeskills catch 22; if you were making/getting it for a twink there are far better things around while making it for yourself would definately not be worthwhile due to all the trouble of getting ingredients and such and skilling up.

The ogre smithing does at least take one of the easier tempers as it only requires human, dwarf and elf blood. Elf and dwarf were pretty prevelent only in crushbone from slaves.. but was later nerfed (or so I heard) while not increasing the drop rate of higher level more appropriate npcs. On my other "blood hunters" for smithing I seem to often encounter dwarf, elf and even human bloods on vendors though.

But further smithing problems plague the ogre since unlike the dark elf the ogre can't RAPIDLY work faction up in freeport to smith (it was easy for my dark elf cleric of innoruuk to do so with the jenny and rebby quests.. binding on one end and getting amiable with vendors in over an hour after becoming non kos with north freep pallys by kiling pawns and centurians) so the ogre is stuck doing smithing in ogguk or neriak. He should not even THINK about doing fine plate smithing to skill up on the ogre smithing really unless he is a shaman and can gate back and forth from the fine steel supply evil vendors and forges in ogguk (If my character was not a druid I would have never made fine steel plate at all, it was just easy due to having a bind at a forge then teleporting self to steamfont where the vendor was)

Your time would be better spent either way just making money to buy things like The rygorr bp, ac 18 20 mana 10 str for maybe 1200 plat or even better the giant vest which comes from one of the alcove giants outside of kael in EW and goes for as low as 500 plat, ac 18 10 str, 20 hp (same graphic as rygorr and basically a better choice since cheaper and 20 hp) I even saw one that a player had sold to a vendor and it was only 350 plat on a vendor.

The only real use of items like this would be on a brand new server if an ogre really worked his behind off to make and sell some before much better items were obtainable or in wide use.

Even that becomes questionable with the current liklihood that when a new server pops up an entire guild or body of people from an older server take turns getting a druid or something to level 50 in 2 weeks where upon that character then levels the rest of the guild. That is more likely to happen due to the design flaws of EQ where the casual player is held back like crazy by things meant to hold back even the optimizers but someone who REALLY optimizes with a lot of friends can accelerate play rapidly making such detriments moot except to cause casual players angst.

What happens with this and any cultural armor making is that your time and money getting to the point of making it, collecting materials and then making the items FAR FAR FAR FAR outweigh the time and money you'd spend just getting better regular game items. This item is a good example, I mean what could you really sell such a thing for.. 200 plat, 300? Trying to sell it for much more than that would be competing with better items.
