Is ths live??
# Jun 22 2015 at 3:16 PM Rating: Decent
I am playing on Lockjaw and I have managed to collect the staff of fire, frost and slime. I have spent hours and hours in Lake Rathe and no luck on Webclaw Murkwave. I have killed hundreds of aqua goblins and shamans in the water and I have yet to see ANY goblins under the flame tower area. In face no one knows who he is and no one has reported ever seeing him.

My question is what expansion did this hammer go live in? I am hoping it was with the original game.

ANY help would be appreciated.

Thank you!

Sorry for the late reply. This was original content so it should be live on Lockjaw. When I got the water crystal staff the NPC pathed across the island underneath the big aviak tower. You can look up the NPC here on Allakhazam's for good advice.

The hammer was an item in original beta. The quest (to my recall) was implemented later. Usually the slime crystal staff is the bottleneck. Playing on progression the other staffs will be wielded by some players (they were decent items in their own right) depending on which expac era you are in. Once you get to Luclin and bazaar, the fire, frost and water will likely be available (sometimes cheap).

I completed this quest on a regular live server in 2008, so unless the devs have it flagged for a specific era it should work fine on progression.

If it takes you weeks of PLing to get from 1-70, you're doing it wrong, even without AEs. The hammer is definitely handy, but 1-30 is a matter of minutes, 30-65 a matter of an hour or two, tops, and 65-80 a matter of a couple hours at best, the way I work it.

HARD
# Aug 31 2010 at 9:42 PM Rating: Decent
For people doing this quest when it is actually useful, it is in fact a very hard quest 40-50. The slow point like mentioned before is King xorbb lvl 35 wizard that is hard to spawn and the slime crystal staff is his very rare drop. This is my 2nd hammer I have gotten and so far data is such

Slime crystal staff (rare drop rare spawn; estimated time 20 hours to get)
Fire crystal staff ( rare drop; see invis mobs 20 min spawn times 4 hours to get)
Water crystal staff (common spawn, common drop; 25 wizard 12 min spawn time 1 hour to get)
Ice crystal staff ( rare spawn, common drop; crouded room no see invis though 20 min spawn time 4 hours to get)

Faction (depending on race and diety 0-4 hours)
Noble blood (common spawn, common drop; requires group to break camp 1 hour to get)

So you can get lucky or you can kill Xorbb 27 times like I did before slime crystal staff, but it seems to average out to about 30 or so hours to get.
Still obtainable

I completed the quest today and (finally) received my Blued Two-handed hammer. The slow point in the quest for me was obtaining the slime crystal staff.

RE: no RNG or PAL???

because it's given from the Visiting Priestess in Najena: a dark elf on Neriak faction.

Waaay back in the day, back when Everquest was, well, fun, they used to do things like this. Some evil dark elf character wouldn't give out equipment that was usable by good characters, and vice versa, because there used to be these things called "factions" where certain race/classes didn't like each other.

In contrast, now if my 65 troll beastlord who worships Innoruuk wants to get his top teir of LDON armor, I have to go to South Ro, talk to one of those wretched little frogs who overtook my hometown, and then help them defend MY town from a bunch of my fellow Innoruuk worshipping undead and whatnots. Where's my option to team with the Witnesses of Hate and kill those damnable little frogs who are in my home, lounging around in my house and sleeping in my bed?

Every expansion from Luclin on has furthered there efforts to eliminate any form of faction and just mixmash all race/class/religions into one huge peaceful episode of the muppets. But that's an entirely differant topic.

In answer to your question, no Rangers or Paladins because, even if you manage to illusion yourself up and mind control her enough to give you the hammer, her people don't sit in thier forges making weapons for the goodie-two-shoes classes.

If that were the case, INT-less heathen, then BLs and druids wouldn't be included in the class list. So I'm sorry you and your precious Innoruk weren't able to defend your precious little garbage dump from creatures 1/3 your size who have no thumbs, teeth, claws, or vertebrae, but maybe you should have chosen better whom you worship. (and by the way anyone who rated your post excellent is as lost as you are)

From what I remember of this weapon back in the day the only time it appeared was the first time Vox died. The developers didn't think she was killable yet so she didn't have a drop table (imagine that) so a GM gave out 7 powerful items for the loot and this was one of them.

I've been experimenting with this weapon:

This weapon starts to proc at lv30. The proc is a point-blank AE that hits all targets near you for 63dd, plus knockback and interrupting spellcasting.

I should point out that warriors cant use the hierophant crook, so there may be limited options for them. The effect would also come in handy in a faction group that's AE-ing weak monsters since it would tag everything. The taunt is unfortunately much lower than if you'd done 63 damage to each mob, and if the warrior is using the weapon in hopes of taunting everything onto them, it may take several procs.

This may go up to 70dd like other people mentioned, but I gave it to a 40 ranger and I believe it still did 63 for them.
Procs?
# Aug 26 2002 at 11:57 AM Rating: Default
Anyone know what level this starts proccing?

I'm planning on twinking my Ogre Warrior with this. He only uses axes, hammers, and clubs. Anything else is too suffistikated for him...

I've now completed all steps of this quest up to needing the vial of noble's blood from Mistymoore Castle. Wow does that sound easier than it really is. I've been there three times now and each time been repelled by the denizens ( after dying a few times, of course ;) ) But this last time we were able to kill the dark elf noble -- a couple of times. She never dropped the blood! I was killing her in the Gypsy Ambassador room... the noble's picture was different that what I've seen on some websites... do you know if I'm killing the wrong noble? Other than that .... itchy fingers to finish this quest =)

The quest is long and involved. The final results of which is breath-takingly out of whack with any conceivable attractive cost/benefit ratio. Its has old school stats (look up the Kunark mob drops, let alone the Velious stuff). It procs an 70pt AoE. Can you say "lets wake up all the mezzes"? Sigh... Its another keepsake and remembrance item like the Bloodforge hammer (my first quest wep). Doubt that I will even start the silly thing, the slime staff alone is worth far more and a lot more useful to casters than the result of the quest IMO.

Even if you consider it from a "situational weapon" PoV, a 70pt AoE proc is kinda pathetic if you bring it to a AoE fight (a Heiro Crook might work OTOH).
Wow this is an oldie..

I remember this one since the beta. The Hammer.. It was a time when there was no twinks, before all these crafted and other armors, before banded armor, it was a time when JBoots dropped in Najena and SSoY was the 'uber of all uber' items. Bone Bladed Claymore was considered a powerful weapon, not to mention the fact that best 2H weapon most of the people ever managed to get were Combine Weapons, sold on gypsies in North Karana and so on. Rubicite Armor was dropping in Lost Temple of Cazic Thule. Do you want to know what was the most common - and considered as a damn good - dual wielding weapon? Minotaur Axes. Yes, those same slow as hell, heavier then that axes. There were also some really powerful people (read: lvl 30+ heh) who went to Lower Guk and came out with such a thing as Executioner Axe. That was the most powerful weapon in the whole game.

And then this Hammer. I don't remember where did it drop at first, heck it's some odd 4 years back heh.. But this was The Hammer of hammers. Everyone's dream, even if you couldn't use it. Very few ever got the hammer, and in the release, the hammer dissapeared entirely. Was not dropping anymore. Now the Najena quest part was found out pretty soon afterwards, but the quest was broken still. Heh, I thought it was a forgotten item by now.. Anyway, while this is not such an 'uber' by nowaday means, where every second damn newbie is a twink, I will probably still do the quest, for the old time sakes. I missed it in these old days by "an inch" heh, gotta finish then this old quest of mine..

Ah yes, the good old days when poison didn't work, mesh armor was the best a monk could get, and a monk's bare fists delt out more damage over time than just about anything - and a rogue with a fang skull stilleto was nearly worshipped as a god.

Hehe, imagine what it's like now... I mean, some people don't even realize that less than a year ago, they couldn't buy things in STACKS...

If it wasn't for the twinking, this would still be among the most CLASSIC of all games...

I remember when things weren't stackable, but I also feel that I missed a lot by not getting into the game until after the release of Velious. I enjoy playing the game very much, but I think there's something I've missed in coming into such a twink filled environment. I knew things were changing when I'd worked long and hard to get a full set of cured silk, and they introduced Wu's... ;) Oh well. heh We'll see what happens in the future.

And I too joined a bit later, but the earlier you started eq, the more disguested you would be anyways. :) But yes, I do have some old school in me. I remember when Banded was pretty damn good... and people offered 3-5pp a bone chip stack. etc. I miss those good old days. Or someone would offer you a 1/4 ratio weapon in extreem kindness. And I am sorry, but stacks are a GOOD thing. :) I mean I started a troll shaman, and there is 'a rodent' that spawns in the room, I killed him from 1-4 without even going outside....and left with some 25 pp. That would be seriously sick cash back in the day for killing a mouse. I cant even begin to talk about how much corruption ther eis :)

I remember the EC tunnel as a good place for buffs, wares, and finding groupmates. I remember hunting the orc and dervish camps from 8-12 and 12-15. I remember NFP being the bazaar capital of the server, there would always be high level iksar monks killing the guards outside the bank for exp too. I remember when FS was goooood money. I remember the bone chips for 5pp a stack too, I'd sell them for cash. Same with the 30pp those HQ bear pelts brought in and the 1pp per LQ, 3pp per MQ, and 5pp per HQ pelts. I remember taking my 16 cleric from Freeport to Qeynos on "Holiday." I remember running my barb war from Halas to Freeport in 2 hours. I remember running to Thurgadin with my cleric... at level 16... without dying or even knowing it existed. I found it through pure luck. I remember buying a Moonstone Ring for 300pp back when 30 mana was great. I remember when hitting for 16 was a lot.

God, the memories! I miss those days. The short life of Discord was a great time indeed, SoE needs to do an event like that again.

P.S. For those of you who don't remember, not too long ago from about Nov 2002-Feb 2003 they made a PVP server where when you died you went back to level 1. The whole purpose was to kill people for points and whoever had the most points at the end got something named after them. I believe it was items in a "new" expansion. Isn't that how Stromm got named though, also?

Before Kunark came out there was like one or two 2hb that even came close to this, considering the quest is older than that, I don't think this is trash, it is just no longer on par with all the expansions gear.

Sucking for the effort isn't even a consideration on this quest. Those of us what played back in beta have been screaming for this to be fixed for so long it's a matter of principle to get one no matter how hard it is to get now that it's fixed.

From an EQ Newsletter:

Lost Quests - The Blued Steel Hammer

The "Blued Steel Hammer" is a weapon of legendary repute, but whose existence has been relegated to myth. Most people believe it is no longer in the game.

Those people are wrong!

The "Blued Steel Hammer" was the reward for a very old and notorious quest that could not be completed for a while. Most players have forgotten about the hammer…

However, the Blued Steel Hammer is out there. It is one of several items that no one has yet discovered. Or "rediscovered," in this case.
"I implemented the Blued Steel Hammer quest a long time ago, before last E3, but no one has discovered it yet," says Jeremy Ellis, designer on EverQuest. "'Old school' players should recognize the name of the item and the quest it starts with, known as the 'Priestess of Najena' quest."

So, start questing!
