Your Face is Raw Fine Hide
# Aug 24 2008 at 7:42 PM Rating: Decent
I got a few 'Raw Fine Hides' from parking myself between the two Treants in South Karana (NE corner of the zone LOC:+1500, -3700). I got three fine hides and four supple hides in about an hour. Other places are certainly faster, but this is certainly the most brainless. The treants will automatically attack anyone of any level if you have bad faction with them (which would be any evil race), and they have a fairly short spawn time (3 minutes). You can watch a movie, do your taxes, eat panini sandwiches, etc. to your hearts content and just let the hides just roll in.

I would suggest that only evil races try this, since there are some faction hits:

-Jaggedpine Treefolk
-Protectors of Pine
-QRG Protected Animals
-Guards of Qeynos

+Unkempt Druids

Just confirming on this. They do in fact drop off sarnaks in the fort. Still not common by any means, but I have had more luck here then anywhere else so far. Cleared the fort twice and got 3...... After killing for awhile I realized I wasn't paying any attention to what was dropping the Raw fine hides. So the last 3 I needed I paid attention. All 3 came off of Sarnak Adherants, so perhaps these are the only ones that drop them.

Also, be aware that if you are farming specifically for these, pay attention to what you are looting, they also drop Raw Supple Hides.

I smote the Sarnak tunnels with my 73 druid a couple of times and came up with 3 raw fine hides (for use in making the 24 necro pet spell) all off of Sarnak Adherents. Took maybe 20 minutes.

Dropped off a cinder goblin wizard yesterday, dark blue to my 21 chanter - in a nice camp of gobbies near the entrance to Naggy's Lair. Two untwinked chars (21 chanter, 23 mage) broke it easily.

The theory I have seen put forth elsewhere on the forums about the hides dropping off caster types near your level, in camps or dungeons, seems to be proving correct. So far I've gotten the lower level spell hide drops off dark blue caster mobs in camps.

It definitely is. However, "near your level" being "the mob's level". Look at the hide or parchment/scroll, there is a level indicated on them. A given caster mob that falls in the range, will commonly drop that hide, uncommonly the lower and rare the higher. Also, goblins drop more research, gnolls and orcs more smithing components.

By far your best bet of obtaining these at the levels you need them is LDoNs, since they have a bunch of casters, are around your level and in a dungeon. Everfrost - if you get the goblin variety - is the best bet, however not every Everfrost version has goblins.

Best resource outside LDoNs for these, seems to be globlin evokers in Permafrost. I will update their drop lists.

Out of everything listed in BFM the only Mucctails I got to drop them were the rocc breakers. The miners/guard dogs never dropped any out 2 full wipes of the camp. I killed every dire rat and greenscale viper I could find and didnt get one to drop from them.

I have found as Kaenen suggested to be fact. About 8 out of 10 times I killed the gnolls that dropped this hide, they were in fact casters. Unfortunately outside of the Miners, it takes a while to sit there and wait for a mob to see if they cast.

They ususally cast buffs on themselves right after they spawn. However, since you cannot determine when the caster will spawn, you would do just as well to: "wipe them out....all of them..." in the hopes of getting more than one caster to spawn.

They also occassionally and rarely drop off of the other non caster types. Just my observations after farming them for hours on end. They do not drop nearly enough though in any case. They have made this new research stuff harder and costlier than the previous system I think. The old page system dropped so much it ended up being Vendor garbage in a lot of cases. Much easier to obtain components in my opinion.

While the general rule of thumb is Caster mobs of appropriate level to the spell created, Ngreth has mentioned that the lower level hides do have a chance of dropping off any mob of the appropriate level.

I do believe these may be included in that group, but I don't think hides for higher level spells drop off regular mobs.
Drop Table wrong
# Jan 27 2008 at 2:57 PM Rating: Decent
It should be noted on all these hides that they drop of appropriate level caster mobs, and not necessarily off any of the mobs listed.

This makes level 19 and 20 spells, so level 20ish caster mobs would be the ones you would want to hunt to get this to drop.

Petitioned SoE about the fact that this item is a required piece in subcombines for many lower level spells ( Example.. tepid deeds lvl 24 enc spell ). Also pointed it out to their attention that TSS is not availble on the progression server yet.. and wont be for a long time apparently ... How the heck am I supposed to research my lvl 24 chanter spell for my chanter.. when the zone that drops this material isn't available on the server. Got the standard BS reply from SoE ... basicly sayin "wit till the expansion opens" ...

Can these idiots at SoE care any less for our troubles and grief when THEY cause it ?

Anyway .. enuf of my ranting at Soe ( dirty sob's ) .. someone mentioned that it also drops from other zones.. broodlands and similar lvl 35 zones.. ( kinda retarded a lvl 24 spell componant drops in a zone 10 levels higher ). Can anyone confirm ANY other zone that this drops in .. cause i don't feel like waiting a year till the TSS expansion is unlocked on the combine server in order to get my enchanter's crucial slow spell.
Drops Dropped????

I've been killing these mobs for 3 days now and not a single drop. Did they nerf the drop with the new expansion? They dropped before the expansion but sine the expansion I have not seen even one. Just seeing all this other stuff sioled, mangled, tacky etc and non sellable. They have recipies to make these new items into patterns but no recipies how to create something from the patterns. Hopefully this patch today will fix this.
