It seems like there is a real lack of information and posts concerning what is going on in skyshrine , I'm looking through all of these items that the mobs used to drop back in early 2001 and 2002 , but I'm playing now on the TLP server Coirnav and have not seen any of these items that the named Wyverns used to drop. Almost all of the most recent posts on ZAM here don't seem to be anymore recent then around the 2002 era. I know that the mobs named that drop this item are not in the zone anymore, however ZAM doesn't list them as in the mob graveyard. I thought it was because maybe the sleeper had not been wakened , but he was just wakened on the server about 5 days ago and yet the Named mobs are still not there. None of the special rare drop items that these guys used to drop, drop any more. It would be nice to see some type of zone revamp info , or a post that was within the last 15 years on here.

I did a little research on Skyshrine. I looked through patches when Velious released, all the way through 2004. None of those patches talk about revamping this zone. I know there was a revamp for the zone, I just don't have any information about it. If anyone finds any information about it, please let me know.

What we need is someone on Coirnav to provide us a current listing of NPC's in Skyshrine so we can figure out which NPC's/quests and etc need to be moved.

Hello All!

Can anyone post any further detail on the mobs that drop this item? (name, loc, level, etc.)I, and my entire guild, are on good terms with CoV, and I will need to damage that faction to quest this item. I need to kill with a lot of discretion once inside, and rather than read page after page of drivel arguing the merits of the proc on this weapon, I thought it a good idea to simply ask for any guidance you might be able to give. Thanks in advance!

Dropped off named cube
# Dec 01 2001 at 3:32 PM Rating: Decent
This staff dropped for our group last night. It came off a named cube (one of the lower level cubes that sit together behind Oct Velic... Ortho Velic or Polhidral Velic I believe are their names). As with most weapons that drop off cubes, you can see this thing sitting inside while you fight it. Granted it could be one of a few different staves but a tip-off that you are going to get this weapon to drop is if the cube you are fighting mysteriously has a fire dmg shield. Nice weapon, but as it says above it IS No Drop.

Forgot to mention, resummoning a pet and buffing him and have him ready to fight takes at lest 40% of my mana. That is very expensive and could cost me losing my spawn if I'm soloing a spot that has more than one spawn and I have it timed. So taking a few hits I think is definately worth more than the mana it would cost to resummon.

To all the non-pet owning people who wondered why the DS is useful. As a mage I too occasionally enter the fray. The occasion is if my pet is low on health and I dont want him to die. I will go in and take a few hits to ensure my pet doesn't die, and then have the mob agro on me after its dead and kill me cause I can't get a spell off. So fighting occasionally is important.

And I know the next question is why not nuke it and kill the mob or jsut summon another pet right? Well for myself, I have a set amount of mana I know I can use for that mob and still have enough for the next spawn. So if I'm approaching the alotted mana for the mob I'll save it to finish it off or for the next spawn.

That is also where a DS comis in handy cause I know I'm gonna get spanked and at least I'll be able to do SOME damage back.

So what haave we learned today? Mana Conservation Good.

i picked this up a couple of weeks ago in a wyvern grind in skyshrine. i've only seen it once, and i happened to be the only pure-caster in my small wyvern group. the stats are very nice...insane int, great saves, and a sprinkle of mana make the item gold. the damage shield is a novelty. hats off to whomever can actually justify the need / usefulness of the proc. the only time i ever actually attack anymore is during push formations on gating-mob raids. proc'ing a damage shield during that insanity is kinda cute. oh...and it makes farming bone chips more effecient or something. =P

This drops off of a Loach (roughly lvl 55ish Wyvern) deep in SS past the maze area. We went down with 2 full groups that were well ballanced and had no problem handling these mobs. I won this and also a seer lore book. +13 int in each hand is nice.

Have enchanter's place this in their primary and their Epic in their secondary, and you can mostly switch out all your rings / ears / other parts for better AC/HP gear.

How can u randomly proc a DS?
RE: Proc
# Mar 17 2001 at 6:28 PM Rating: Decent
You silly people, don't you see how this is Verant trying to make up for tanks way outdamaging casters at high lvls.... They give us a good weapon so we can go in and smack the mob also...mark my words there will be some equipment with nice AC coming. This way we can ALL be tanks and classes will be "Balanced".

P.S YES this IS a joke

Proccing a damage shield is no different than proccing a self-buff (like the Screaming Mace does) -- while in combat using this staff, there is a chance based off of your dex that it will proc, casting a damage shield on you. The two-handed practice sword, in play since Kunark, has a similar effect.

That said, this effect doesn't seem so useful, given that the staff is wieldable only by casters -- if a caster is both (a) in battle and swinging this staff instead of casting/medding and (b) the target of the mob's aggression instead of the group tanks, then something is going seriously wrong.

That said, the stats/mana/saves are pretty nice. :) I'm just not sure the proc is anything but a point of curiosity.

That said.....I think we've all been in the " Oh s**t, all the tanks are dead....let me please get a few melee hits in on this mob so he'll die before he gets too far into my puny-caster red life-o-meter....oh wait.....that means i'll get all the xp! =p" situation. In that case, the damage shield would be a welcome help.

Useful for combat-necros
# Mar 15 2001 at 5:28 PM Rating: Default
This is useful for many necros who do a little bit of melee when they solo.

Necros will often melee a bit, alongside their pet, when going solo against a lone mob. This proc will help a bit.

I agree that the proc is useless in a group....because in the group situation, you dont want the mobs aggroing on the casters. And this proc will only taunt the mobs away from the tanks.

#REDACTED, Posted: Aug 28 2001 at 2:18 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) To all the idiots who posted that they melee when soloing wurms and trash in BW and whatever.
RE: Useful for combat-necros
# Mar 15 2001 at 10:33 PM Rating: Default
The only necros that would melee a bit when fighting are low levels. I am sure this proc is for around level 50, so would still be useless. A necro even over level 30 would die fast from most mobs that hit for over 50 damage per hit (and that is most mobs for the level).

Combat necro...sure, join you pet on the Sarnaks or Wurms in Burning Woods. HeHeHe, a wurm hits you for 125, a wurm hits you for 124, you are stunned, etc, etc, etc.

Loading, please wait.

jus to mention about this kinda stuff. I do attack wurms when i feel like it and sarnaks. Oh and dont forget if im gonna solo the stupid wurms and sarnaks arent going to be hitting me either. Also in groups your **** poor dmg isnt enough to taunt in groups.

I have a enchanter and I have her in there bashing those mobs right and left. Comes in handy also when you want to conserve mana and the mob is running from you and you just want to finish him off. Plus how else will we ever get our skill up so when we really do need it we have it. I know there has been times when the group is entirely busy fighting for their lives and I run out of mana and am medding and along comes some blue that decides to try to make mincemeat out of me but since I have worked on my skill I am able to take it out without putting the groups lives in further danger by taking a tank from where he is needed the most and I conserve what mana I have gained by medding so I can jump back in the fight and we can win the day. And as a enchanter I really could use the damage sheild. When I charm a mob and make it kill its buddies it build up lots and lots of hate. When the charm breaks before the tanks can taunt it a few times it comes for me and only me no matter how many taunts and damage the tanks get in after it breaks. Any extra sheilding at that point is great!

as a 44 mage i fight alot with an enchanter friend . trust me when i blast your x-pet he forgets you even exist, which of coarse leaves a very nice game of ping pong.

Using the damage shield would only make your problem worse as the mob reads it as you attacking when ever it takes damage from hitting you.

as for the proc well its anouther attempt by varant to laugh at casters pathetic states while including something totally worthless as a "proc"

I saw a velious piece of mage wear (legs i think ) that procted summon bandades . Something i have had since lvl 1 and uses so little mana per stack to cast that you dont see it move at all.

I say give me better resists (point wise ) and forget the dumb stuff. other than that its a nice staff with good int. but try as i might i dont think i ever hit a mob for more than 13 hp a shot

Feel free to flame me but i think if iwant to solo at 60 then at least a 60 mob should exist and not one thats called 60 but takes 24 lvl 60 players to even see much less kill.
Some people dont have the gametime to play that is required to form a plane raid , with buffs and resses and spawn times that are measured in days weeks and months

Anyone know what level this procs at? This would be an uber item for my level 9 enchanter PK. If you get your ac up and get hps rings... you can out melee the tanks and nuke em while they run. Especially if you weapon procs a good DS. And yes I see that it is no drop and drops in a 50ish zone, thats what friends are for.

This would be a nice staff for any INT caster the INT is very nice and the saves are always welcomed. For non mage's the proc is pretty nice if the mob hits you when it procs.
