Well I agree with other posters, this is definitely rare... I need it for the make poison TS quest, and I have had one drop in four clears of the area!
Now I remember why I never really bothered with poisons in the old system LOL
I need the heartsting venom sacks to make Stiffening Ergot (a very good poison) for my 65 Rogue. I figured the fastest way to farm it would be to take my 65 Druid. Here's what I found from spending an hour and a half today (and two hours the previous day).
Q. Where is the best spot to hunt them? I have found the yard and hillside across from Kurn's Tower has the most. It's East of the tower. Outside of the pit. Some do spawn in the pit but too few to bother clearing out that area.
Q. What's the most efficient way of spawning them? I found that tracking down the heartsting scorpions and killing them all, then start gathering up everything else and AE'ing (Catastrophe) helped them respawn fastest. It seems like everything are PHs for each other in the field.
Q. How often do they spawn? Using the above method (with no sit down time), I spawned 52 Heartsting Scorpions in 90 minutes.
Q. How often does the Heartsting venom sacks drop? Out of 52 spawns, 10 venoms dropped. It averaged 1 in 5, which bites worse than the scorpion. :P
Q. How hard do they hit? A. Like 24 damage max if it's lucky enough to hit you.
Q. What level does it stop aggroing? A. It doesn't. It will aggro you even at level 65.
Q. Do the Large Heartsting Scorpions drop the venom? A. NO! In that same time that 52 regulars spawned, 17 Large ones spawned. 3 dropped "scorpion chitin" which is lore/no drop and never anything else. Hunting the previous day nothing else dropped off them either.
Q. How often does the meat/stingers drop? A. They don't as far as I'm concerned. Out of two days of hunting, neither the regular or large varieties dropped either of those items so they should be taken off of the loot list for them.
Q. Anything else drop? A. They drop a 3/24 pokie weapon that's lore/no drop. There are no charges on it at all like some of the older posts are saying so maybe it was nerfed.
Q. Any other clues on how to get more? A. You can check in the bazaar but I've never seen any for sale. Most races are KOS to the merchants in the field of bone so I recommend making an iksar and checking the merchants. Not a lot of newbies hunt there anymore but you may get lucky and find some.
Saulami is correct...After clearing out the Heartstings, Start killing everything else. I would pull 10-20 mobs with my 51 Druid and AE damage them till dead. Within minuites heartstings would pop. The loot rate still sucks though!
I'll admit that rare is a stretch, only in that the mobs are an easy kill, at 50+. However, I have slaughtered about 100 of these things and have 4 sacs. That is 4% drop rate. If they spawned faster, that'd help too. I know poisons ought to be a challange, but for Pete's sake.
Well, I sure hope word has gotten around that this is used in an excellent poison so that I can find it in the bazaar rather than have to go out and farm it for my alt. I've just recently got my little rogue up to level 30 and I've been keeping his make poison skill maxed as he levels. I can completely understand now why rogues grumble so much about how the poison system really needs alot of work and is simply a pain in the butt. Even with my level 63 Druid main farming stuff for him, it's a pain in the butt. I love the poisons once they're made and in use, especially the paralyzing ones like the one made from this item. Slows the mob and messes up its run speed also. Problem of course is the items that have to be farmed and the fact that so few people know poison ingredients or simply know that too many rogues never even bother with poison so they just don't bother putting this up in bazaar. It either rots or goes to an npc merchant. /sigh. So if anybody out there reads this, let me convince you to keep and sell these items in the bazaar. Think about this: when I farmed grave mold in unrest I took my level 63 druid, pulled the entire yard of the place and AoE'd them all down in one clean shot. I did that over and over. Even with that kind of destruction, it still took me two 8+ hour sessions to farm two stacks of the stuff. Basilisk Eye Stalks, which make the precursor to this poison, drop pretty commonly, but still take entirely too long to farm. According to posts here, these heartsting venom sacks are a rare drop. I'm not looking forward to having to farm them. Now, even though alot of rogues never bother with Make Poison, I can guarantee that somebody on your server is doing it. I know I would gladly pay 20-25 plat each for these heartsting sacks rather than have to farm it myself. So if you get one, keep it, put it on sale in the bazaar and get alot more cash than the npc merchant will give you. Somebody is out there looking, and you'll make them happy and they'll make you money.
this is used in poison making, and i wish people kept em so i could buy em, now at lvl 51 i have to go farming this off nuub mobs! lol, just fyi Quietly pixxalot
