Putting the Environment to Work by Horvard Fleetwind
As hunters we have always used our environment. Feeding ourselves from the land, finding shelter and surviving the wilds on our wits is what we do. From my experience we also share knowledge with each other
| when we discover something of use. That's what I want to do, so I'm writing this down. I'm sorry if my writing skills aren't that good anymore, I don't usually have parchment to waste.
As you know, the natives in this new place we've taken to calling Discord are
|
| dangerous. They have some useful adaptations. I'm going to talk, or write I guess, about four of them.
Let's start with the Dragorn. Sneaky, strong, fast, these fellows are the kind you should probably avoid, at least in any large number. If you do find yourself forced to
| kill one, there is something you might want to try. They appear to be related to birds or dragons. This means that their bones are very light and strong. Them things sticking out of their backs were probably once wings. Now they are just ornaments. However, there are some very straight,
|
| strong bones in those wings. I've found that they make very good arrow shafts. Shafts made from these bones work very well with every arrowhead or fletching I've used.
There's this gross, fat little beast they call a Girplan. They look like giant wads of mud with
| sticks stuck into their backs. It turns out that those sticks are useless wings, a lot like the Dragorn have. The mud balls, though, can sorta fly. They don't use their wings to do it, it's some sort of magic. The thing is, they still have feathers on those wings. If you can pluck those
|
| feathers from their gooey corpses try using them as fletching. Some of their floating magic seems to stick to their feathers and they make very nice fletching.
I'm always looking for new ways to string a bow, you never know when you're going to break a string. I
| was taking one of them Murkgliders apart when I noticed that they are connected with some very thick, long sinews. If you dry them out a bit (not all the way) before stringing them on your bow you'll find that they tighten a bit and make a very nice string. I use these exclusively now.
|
| Last, I want to talk about them Bazu. Huge, nasty things. Stay the heck away from them. I've found a few shredded corpses that those Feran things have feasted on. The Feran will hunt them in packs, it's a sight to see. They stalk them like lions. If you can find a Bazu carcass,
| take a good look at the smaller bones. Find some that aren't gnawed and you might be able to fashion a nice bow for yourself.
Look, I gotta go. I hope this helps some of you that haven't been to Discord and tried this stuff out for yourself.
