Flayed Skin
# Jun 04 2002 at 4:17 PM Rating: Excellent
Actually flaying is the peeling of skin off of a living body definitely in keeping with the good guy image that necromancers have. :)

great for SKs
# Feb 14 2002 at 6:23 AM Rating: Default
as an iksar SK, its hard to get good armor after rygor that isnt plane armor or quest armor. so when i was awarded this on a DN raid to replace my Rygor, i was quite happy.

with the Str and Int, its very nice for any SK. the AC is nearly that of Barbed Ringmail or Greenmist (for us Iksar SKs). my guild was very generous to give this to me :)

We hunted at ramp and I was lucky it has 28 ac and was damn better than my Guardian Breastplate and the look is also cool. Ok, I am a Paladin and dark is strange but i dont Care Btw we got it from a Chet. Dominator and word of warning beware of the trap.

I would assume this is a random drop from any of the higher level rats. We picked up one on the ramp down to the rats. Looks like dark rust or black on a Iskar Monk. Very nice tunic... Looking forward to my next wgt increase so I can change out some of my armor, but this works well in place of my fungi.

Also, BTW, the ramp down is a great camp spot for 1 high level (55+) well balanced group or 2 mid level (50+) groups to pull to. IMHO
#Anonymous, Posted: Jun 18 2001 at 6:57 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) As a caster i wouldn't even think of wearing this can we say 140 MAX defense skill and level 60+ mobs=caster with 1000AC still gets his **** beat down. All these talks of casters and AC HAHAH if you are level 60 or close to it you have to have a pretty crappy tank to be getting hit so damn much that you think ac will save you, the necro that posted must be losing his mind considering all quest necro robes own this thing with 100+hps in hp and stamina on them as well as int/mana so you can do your damn job and feed the clerics!
the best

This armor is THE BEST for uber necros. As posted above, with the stuff out today, it is incredibly easy to max out int. AC matters alot to necros because all their spells are major taunts.

I, as a necro, refused to roll on this. I agree that our spells are too high on the taunt, but an extra 16ac vs level 50+ mobs doesnt make up for this: +12 AC +15 Sta +9 Int +5 vsMg +5 vsFire +5 vsCold -15 vsPos +5 vsDis +70 HP +50 Mana (POG robe stats)

I left this item for anyone else that wants it (an iksar tank got it). It would just go into my resist bag if i won it.
what it looks like

legs and gloves look black on iksar monk. i want to say black plate look, but plate and chain really are hard to tell apart on iksar anyway. oh well, gotta get chest and arms so he can be darth monk =p

I really wish that you children would use these sites to post valuable info instead of using them for a verbal onslaught of rediculous insults, ignorance, stupidity and childishness. I know nothing of this item but was checking it out for my monk. I did not even finish the coments because the intelegence lvl of the comments offends me. I am not saying that you have to post the exact location, lvl and toughness of the mob to allow absolutely no doubt of weather or not I can go get it but the insults are too much. Please grow up a little and decist with the rude and childish comments and insults. Thank you. GROW UP and do us all a favor. Parents please keep your children from posting.

OH PLEASE dont say this looks like cloth when wore!
RE: Look
# Apr 23 2001 at 9:08 PM Rating: Default
Picked one up a couple of days ago. My main is a 49 bard and he was called in for sense and disarm traps (and the humor I generate :) and was lucky enough that the warrior who was going to get this deferred to me.

This replaced a dusty bp I had (was wearing it only to get away from the blue lambent look) so is a nice increase in stats, with essentially a 35 hp cut. No biggie with cleric buffs.

The look on Iksar and Wood Elf is a deep, almost black look (think rogue) and has the little tree motif on the back common to most velious leather tunics. Looks real flash :)

Now, if only if only I can get rid of the lambent legs...

Okay guys, we're talking about an item u can start getting at level 53, there are a billion chest items at these levels, and believe it or not, there are probably some YOUR class can wear too! Heck, I bet if you looked hard enough, you might even be able to find one that's better than this one! First, I want u to think about why you would even bother wasting your time complaining about this and then I want you to ask yourself why I would bother wasting my time responding to this. Sigh, it must be because we are both losers. =) Rualla Merrikan Jesters League of Antonica 7th Hammer

# Feb 25 2001 at 3:34 AM Rating: Decent
The mobs you get these off hunt the Paebalas and are necromancers, it would make sense that they could wear the armor themselves. BTW, I learned this from hunting there and also talking with one of the game designers about it. So chill and relax.
#Anonymous, Posted: Feb 26 2001 at 9:20 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) Sorry, Bozo, but giving a Necro a 28 AC chest piece is INSANE. No caster class is supposed to wear leather armor. HOw can it ever be right to give Necros only a chest piece that is almost TWICE the Ac of teh best caster robe in the game? DUH. Get a clue Bozo boy!
RE: EXPLANATION
# Oct 01 2001 at 10:33 AM Rating: Default
to the guy callin the original poster "bozo", go back, get some info, and educate yourself before makin a complete and UTTER fool of yourself.

the best caster robe in the game is SIXTY (60) AC. has been obtained by FOH in PoM. 2X60=120 NOT 28!

Hey bub. How long have you been playing? This is the exact same line of armor as flayed skin armor for SK's and Necros (hum/erd). I guess you dont consider the other flayed skins because of the limited usage or the low stats for the level? This armor is just a nice upgrade to that. Get a clue and quit your whining.

RE: EXPLANATION
# Mar 05 2001 at 10:12 AM Rating: Decent
The icon looks like cloth to me, not leather. Besides this is chest slot so you're losing the use of a robe for the sake of better AC, 10str and only gaining 5int. If you want to go with the AC as a necro then fine, you're losing out on the stats you can get from robes and the whole robe look.

Bards and SK's are the only classes that will really get the most use out of it, since every stat on it is useful to them.
RE: EXPLANATION
# Oct 01 2001 at 10:39 AM Rating: Default
since this is no drop, i see very little benefit to SK. most SKs who encounter these guys have better, or access to better.

how would i know this? i play one. umbral is available at 46 and is 30ac 13str 9sta 9dex and i admit i was lucky to get it the same weekend i turned 46, but 2 dropped that day and luckily only two of us needed it.
RE: EXPLANATION
# Oct 01 2001 at 10:36 AM Rating: Default
bard gets no benefit from INT. what man they do get comes from WIS and thus their trae skills are developed from WIS along with any other "mind" related skills.
RE: EXPLANATION
# Mar 08 2001 at 10:24 AM Rating: Default
Well, I know a monk that loves his! Even with the added weight of the tunic, his carry weight is still only 14....this makes his AC ungodly for a monk. The str buff is nice too =)
#REDACTED, Posted: Mar 31 2001 at 4:20 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) Since when has AC helped Necros anyway?
RE: EXPLANATION
# Apr 06 2001 at 2:16 PM Rating: Default
that is just plain silly. first of all, by the time you have the means to acquire this, you will have easily maxed your int if you want. and secondly, while certainly tanks get more use out of their ac, casters do get hit.
RE: EXPLANATION
# Apr 09 2001 at 5:24 PM Rating: Default
very good point. when last i was in seb, i had just my archshield up, was geting hit on occasion for 160s. i later put up the spirit armor and the damage dropped to low hundreds from the same mobs.

Why am i tanking? when i cast Bond of death i can afford to take a couple hits to help the party. But the main reason this necro get hit is when the chanter goes down or cant keep up i cast Screaming terror. major argo - just like chanter stuff.

I am only level 52 but i have enough int equipment that my int is over 200 without a chest piece and i wear a RMB for the str and AC. 200 int is easy to get.

Well, not true. Enchanters need AC as well. After a mob breaks mez, who is the first person he goes after? Well, the cleric actually, but the enchanter after the cleric is whipe out :P

"Well, not true. Enchanters need AC as well. After a mob breaks mez, who is the first person he goes after? Well, the cleric actually, but the enchanter after the cleric is whipe out :P"

As SK i use my stats drains to taunt messed creatures (not HP tap) and by time i break mes, they hatin on me. remember that next time u deny an SK a spot in your group because he a hybrid.

also if u not smart nuff to keep messin mobs to KEEP them at bay, mebbe u should consider nother class or work on your RL INT.

thx for the incentive to solo, hehe. im doin quite well with it now.

Tell me something a necro cant use that even compares to this as a chest slot? 28 ac is insane, and yes my 60th lvl enchanter would wear it in a heart beat if i could. So tell me what cant necros use that compares tho this?
RE: Such as?
# Oct 01 2001 at 10:27 AM Rating: Default
since the lvl 60 chanter isnt aware of the above stated facts it makes me question the credibility of her existance
RE: Such as?
# Oct 01 2001 at 10:26 AM Rating: Default
also remember that necros are a solo class and for them to group, it is hard for them to convince the ppl to let them do much other than be a mana battery at the lvl req'd to get this.

since they have to solo to have any real fun, it only makes sense that they get decent AC, but dont fret none. just a bit further into velious is even higher AC items for all casters

GAH! quit yer bishin, is sooo obvious that yer a fem.

flayed skin means it came off something dead. if it wasnt dead when they made the tunic from it's skin, then it more than likely is now.

Dead .... necro .... any of this starting to sink in?

Well, if you haven't exactly noticed, Necromancers are allowed to wear just about any type of 'Flayed' armor. This one is keeping the trend going. It isn't any favoritism, don't worry.
RE: necromancer?!
# Feb 24 2001 at 10:13 PM Rating: Default
Yes it fits within the standard set by previous items and anyway unless the necro had some damn good other int items he would be wearing a robe with more int than this thing to be up at the 200 int mark but if he was over i could see him wearing this cause lugging about them weapons for ya pet seems to cause encumberance to sneak up on ya pretty quick
duh
# Feb 27 2001 at 2:48 PM Rating: Default
>>>>unless the necro had some damn good other int items he would be wearing a robe with more int than this thing

The dungeon where this is dropped is level 50+.
You have to go through 2 of the most treacherous zones in Velious to get there. Any necro with the means to get this item will have no trouble attaining 200 int.

>>>>i could see him wearing this cause lugging about them weapons for ya pet seems to cause encumberance to sneak up on ya pretty quick

Any necro that could attain this item would be 15-20 levels beyond carrying 'pet weapons'
#Anonymous, Posted: Feb 25 2001 at 4:54 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) "unless the necro had some damn good other int items".......heyya newbie, d'you realize how EASY it is to get to 200 int, aand furthermore, pet weapons are worthless, pets get dual wield innate at higher levels, only pet weapon that really makes a difference is a gnoll hide lariat, and even then its iffy post 50....
RE: necromancer?!
# Feb 26 2001 at 2:15 PM Rating: Decent
You forget that one of the post 50 pets is a rogue and requires a piercing weapon to activate its back stab. and although I don't know that I agree with Necros being the only class that can wear this type of High ac armor, it is in the game and does follow a trend with all flayed armor (lucky Necros).

To the person who said there is alot of int caster items that Necro can't wear, sorry but I can't think of any (that the necro doesn't have a comparable item) ie planar armor, quest armor.

No, it doesnt need a piercing weapon to backstab. stick to mage. you need to do your research before posting
