Does anyone who's had the staff for a while know when it starts to proc? Saw a post down a bit that it doesn't proc at 40, but does anyone know when it actually *does* proc?

I just sold this for 11k on bristlebane. It is very nice. I have never had a big problem with agro from the proc. The one time I was having too much agro, I switched back to fist and goranga club and got the same agro because my group sucked.
Bottom line is that if you're gaining a ton of agro with this weapon, than your tank isn't much of a tank.
I sold the weapon because I want to start soloing more and wanted a stun weapon.

I use this Efreeti Ice Staff and it's proc is not a monk killer for me at all. But then I'm a 57 monk with epic, so I'm going to out taunt a low level tank class anyway. But in a group of peers, this weapon is no less safe to use than any others.

I feel the problem with the term 'monk killing' comes from when payers twink their monk with weapons well above their level. If you do that, then you will run the risk of out taunting the not so twinked warrior. But that's a problem you are going to have to deal with as a price for twinking your monk.

As a side note, in the Kael Arena I have found that named giants tend to dislike its proc, so hit me a few times before returning to the tank. But so far in other zones, it's taunt is easy to manage.

Warriors vs Monks
# Mar 05 2002 at 5:12 PM Rating: Excellent
This is a bit out of topic but I have seen so many posts on Warriors vs Monks that I felt I just had to chime in.

There really is no conflict or comparison. I am a monk and when I am in a raid the big warrior tank is my best friend. Often I pull and he peels. I let him gain agro and then smash the mobs. We are constantly in communications during pulls, while OTM, discusing mobs and how many we can handle. We both have very important roles to play and from my experience we have a lot of respect for each other.

In terms of weapons and gear, I am the first one to say, hey the warrior needs that hi AC/HP gear or we are all going to die. Give him the hi haste item so he can easily hold taunt. And you know what, the big warriors always seem to watch my back while i am away pulling and if something I can use drops they stick up for me to ensure i have a fair shot at it.

In terms of the quality of gear, it consistent with verants vision as having Wariors as Tanks and Monks as pullers and best toe to toe dammage dealers (Yes, rogues do more dammage from the rear, no flames needed, hehe).

Ok, its off my chest and I feel better now. Thanks for putting up with me.

Woot!

I know this was posted almost a full year ago, but I must commend you on a truly wonderful picture of how smart players and good grouping situations really work. It's really refreshing hearing about how well different classes complement each other rather than the constant drone of folks trying to get a quick ego boost with talk of "my class is better than your class."
My two cents is that you can be an uber leveled character with all their AA abilities learned and all the uberest of uber equipment, but if you expect other folks to truly enjoy your company and have respect for you, you better know how your class relates to the rest of your group most effectively.
Really good to hear from you Shuyung!

#REDACTED, Posted: Jan 28 2002 at 5:47 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) not worth it to get this except for the effect. peacbringer (even tho it's as ****) would out dmg this. 28,30 and 30,35 slight diff there. the bringer has only 2 less dmg and 5 less dly. the staff has only 2 more dmg and 5 more dly. so i'd go with peacebringer if yur weearing really light gear and have all the wieght to spare but other wise get this.

# Dec 19 2001 at 2:57 AM Rating: Decent
This is the coolest staff i've ever had. I change weapons at least once a month with my monk, just because there are so many cool ones for us to choose from. And from all the ones i've used, (ifs, peacebringer, SoS, Ringed mace of ykesha, jade mace, cane of harmony, runed morning star, wu/kd, nobles walking stick, moss covered twig + others) this one has been the most fun.
When i solo it procs three or more times a fight consistantly with 122 dex.
When i'm grouped I take off my dex gear putting me at 92 dex and it hardly procs at all, and aggro isnt a big deal.
I think the speed and weight on this stick are perfect, and with 10ac its like having an extra idol of the thorned. This weapon is well rounded.

i cuyrrently obtained this weapon in a trade i traded my baton of royal stature for it and i think i got a great deal since if i want to use a 1hb i can use my wu trance or just fists.. this weapon does proc at level 50, and gets resisted usually only by the cold based mobs, such as spiders in velketors, <---havent tried it on much else but the frogs in sebilis dont like it =p well anyways its a great weapon 10 ac !!!!! on a weapon is awesome . i wouldnt trade this for 2 stave of shieldings, this is just to nice.

#REDACTED, Posted: May 10 2002 at 6:52 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) Yes it procs a Debuff, yes that debuff pisses mobs off, yes if you suck it will get you killed, yes its a fun staff to play with. =p

Just for a bit of clarification it procs at 50 and does 60 dmg and then minus about 35-55 ac. It procs often for me so i only use it when soloing or on raids. The debuff part is a MAJOR tuanter. Usually when it procs once i have the mob on me. If it procs 3 times during a fight the warrior or tuanter usually doesnt get it off me. In my tinker bags i carry around AC and Resist gear and some other utilities. Just a little reminder, when equiped with this weapon make sure you have AC and hps up because the mob will get on you. It doesnt drop all the time off Dojo mustard and there are 2 forms. The monk and the warrior form that i have seen. He will drop the staff or the axe and then often 2 other items which can vary.

Hello, whats with all the non related crap, this is not a Monk message board !! Its a discussion area for the Efreeti Ice staff. Though after reading all the posts I have to admit being a bit entertained. First off I do have this staff on my level 40 Monk Twink. It does not proc yet and I am not sure when it will start. I have spoke to many people that say it is 60dd and -50ac though not sure on the ac debuff that sounds a bit too good. If you want a good well rounded weapon this is the best in the game for monks. Good ac good weight good damage not too fast and not too slow. But it has a deley under 40 so the damage cap is not as high as it would be with a slightly slower weapon. I hit for 105 max at level 40 with STR slightly over 100. But I have tried the 38/40 and I do not do as much damage with it when soloing. Because of its weight and no ac bonus on it I loose about 100ac or more using it and can not go toe to toe with a lot of blue mobs. With the Efreeti Ice staff I solo most blue stuff just fine. At level 40 i can solo all day in Overthere and get very good Xp. On a raid this item should proove to be very sweet as it will slighly debuff the mob for every ones benifit. At level 40 I can out damage any other mele class up to close to 50. Now so I don't feel left out of the heated discussion above, Monks are awsome and would never go back now, I have a 48warrior, 30ranger, 30sk and a bunch of caster classes. The monk rules on damage. In a group the monk will out damage the wizard as long as the wizaed is pacing hime self. If the waizard dumps all his mana then he would ofcourse out damage me on that fight but would loose out on the next 4 while he medded. Think about it i do over 200 damage per 3.5 sec with this weaponand my double attack and kick. thats alot of damage over a 2 min fight. Though i have to admit I was a bit surprised last night when i grouped with a 45 mage for the first time. The air pet was hitting for 44 about ever 1 sec with its double or quad hits I did not try to do the math but would say he was maybe doing as much damage as me plus the mage was nuking which is insane anyway. I would not want to try dueling a mage, as the pet and the nukes would probably be the end of me quickly so now you all can go pick on mages since they can out damage a twinked monk and the mage can me naked to do it.
#REDACTED, Posted: Aug 26 2001 at 11:42 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) Well sure it is an extremely good weapon, but hey guess its not better than Bo Staff of Throrsamg. My master has it, 40/35 effect: hundred blows - 110dd + stun (you can stun gods with it!)

monks are a very hard class to play. (i have a lvl 57 monk) i didnt have the best equipment at lvl 51 and was pulling in karnor's at RCY. i was breaking room and 2 scryers were up all i see is

Skeletal scryer begins to cast a spell
Skeletal scryer begins to cast a spell
with 2 drolvarg sentry's on me
next thing im dead
and someone said that warriors only get 300-400 hp difference? at lvl 51 i only had 1448hp and 910ac unbuffed and it is very hard to FD pull casters cuz u have to wait til they are done casting and if they are a wizard type in can be a ***** so all u warriors that are complaining that warriors are gettin screwed just start a monk and see what it is like to play them cuz u need to know how to FD pull good

If its yer first char, dont start a monk. Sure, they are unequalled pullers/dmg dealers. The latter being the fun part. But Feign Death pullin is a #(@ art. You have to have perfect timing. easier at lower levels, but thats when you can turn around to look first....
RE: monks...
# Apr 20 2002 at 11:21 PM Rating: Decent
Well, I've only died once from FD Pulling casters, and all the other 30 times have been because I turned the corner and said "Oh, hello Mr. Caster.. please don't ca . . ah crap."

My first char too.. you learn fast, as soon as that spell hits, FD cuz you don't want to give them time to start casting again. lol... other than that, I find that my monk is a whole lot easier than playing a warrior.
Sure, I have less HP's, gear is limited, I worry so much about my weight that I rarely ever loot (hence I have crappy equipment), and if I am the tank.. the group better be hoping that mend is up and there are no adds. lol. Other than that, I have a blast.

# May 25 2001 at 10:46 AM Rating: Default
Haha its a monk killer wep.

Proc is the same as on Frostbringer, a dd/debuff that all our warriors love as its a great taunt. Just what monks need... more taunt... hmmmmm.

not too huge of a taunt

While in hate lastnight, I faught some of the pulls and the proc wasn't TOO much of a taunt, the mobs tended to either hit me just a few times before returning to the other tanks, or totally ignore me, but in bigger encounters(vs gods and dragons and such) I'll probably put it away just to be safe ;)
in any event, the 10AC is nice for pulling(no, I don't have a rainbow shield, so don't suggest I use one:p)

something to keep in mind about the Frostbringer, is that it's 12/22.. speed is a good taunt... also the the warriors are using their taunt button on top of the proc on the weapon, which together, is a very nice taunt indeed, but the proc alone isn't the taunt to end all taunts

I have one of these on my monk, the proc does 60 damage, there is no dot to it, I attacked a pretty low level mob, as soon as it proced I turned off attack.. and the life bar didn't go down at all :p
also, looking at the spell data file, it says the proc does a 60 DD and neg 15 AC, the ac debuff lasts for 1 min(60 seconds)
it's ice based, and while fighting in kedge, it seemed to go off quite a bit.. the "Your frostbite spell was resisted" over and over in red kinda stuck out :p

I haven't faught much with it other than in kedge(where things are pretty much imune to cold anyways) so far no low level mobs outside of kedge have resisted it :)

Maybe some of you loser lvl 60 monks will drop them heavy *** tranquil staff and pick up one of these so you can actually be more effective overall. You might lose 100 damage a minute with this thing (feign), but hella worth it for the weight and ac, so you can load up on other good heavy monk stuff like idol of thorned or kromrif legs.

I give this staff a thumbs up... good job verant. =)

As far as the verant monk jealousy post I'd have to say, look how many warrior, sham, and druid items, were added with velious... then look at monk stuff... monk get the least amount of stuff, and are still forced to either endure the boring as hell quests or use all / all loot.

On mobs like dain, etc... monk still get owned compared to warriors who can get cobalt n stuff and actually survive a few rounds, so if this staff keeps a monk alive another round, I say "cheer"

We all know the trakanon staff is better, but this still rocks.
RE: New monk weap
# Mar 02 2001 at 4:14 AM Rating: Decent
What trakanon staff?

Don't forget warriors get defensive and there is no comparison as to who does the tanking and who does the damage.

Plus, from the time you start a monk you know that you won't be needing much equipment. That explains verant not giving monks much gear (armor). In fact us monks should be glad that we get what we do and aren't still wearing shivercrap. The one thing we should get are the best weapons in the game and this is an example.
