Long camp if you are unlucky

I finally got this to drop for me today.

I have been camping both courtyards almost every day for the past 3 weeks.
Weekdays about 3-4 hours a day and 8-10 hours on weekends. I would estimate that I have killed the Sentry of Sathir 40-50 times.

95% of his drops are the helm. When he finally dropped the sword, he did not appear as holding a weapon.

Most of his pops were in the "right side" courtyard, but he did pop in both sides for me. A few times I even had two up at once. And funny enough, when he finally dropped the sword for me, there were two up and both dropped the sword.

Good luck to you if you decide to try to get this.

It's the difference between 100-200 people solidly keeping the zone dead the entire day round and people going there to camp things. Kunark has some amazingly rare drops and spawns, which I love, but they get rediculous at times...

I would just like to say that if you ever get your hands on this, keep it. Several times I have grouped with rangers that had this and we honestly did just fine without a shaman or enchanter. I'm not just talking about KC either, these are PoV groups on EW and WW of the upper area. My brother has this, and he and I (on my monk) can duo many many more places than we could before when he slows with this. At 200+ dex it procs a lot. The dmg/delay is slow enough when it procs you won't be in too much trouble either.

A weapon procs at a fixed level. The "Effect Level" of a weapon can be seen on Lucy's. In the case of Swarmcaller that level is 46.

See for yourself here:
http://lucy.fnord.net/item.html?id=5613

Assuming a linear progression for the spell from L29 to L60 (which is correct from what I know) it can be calculated as follows:
((50-34)/(60-29)*(46-29))+34 = 43% (rounded up)

Hmm, or is 46 when it starts to proc... Now I'm confused again. /sigh

Ok EarthCaller is 50%slow +dot correct? and im reading here this is 50% slow aswell. but if thats true why is it when im working my 2hs in my typical wens. night group with another epic ranger, ec overwrites the swarmers proc and the swarmers doesnt overwrite the ec's? hmmmmm hmmmmmm interesting i think the slow on swarmer is a bit less than 50, but hey what do i kno im a ranger that wants a blade of war im obv. high on crack.

on a shm point of view, you dont get full 50% Tagar insect effect til you hit level 60; so likely when u proc it you not level 60 yet.

because earthcaller has the DoT included... just like a darkness from an SK will overwrite our snare.. because it has a DoT.. even though our snare is a better snare, theirs has the DoT so is considered more powerfull.

ya i just got this sword yesterday after looking for it for months... had a great xp group going in pon and our shammy left.. for three hours i was the limelight of the group slowing for 50% and allowing us to go on... worked great.... my dex was around 200 and of course it procced fairly often only like one mob out of three would die without a slow...
Proc Rate?

I'm averaging about 3-5 procs per fight in PoI if i actually keep it equipped after the slow.. I usually switch out to my dual combo, swifty being a 40% haste and all.. But i have yet to not get a mob slowed in poi.. dex was about 212 last time, usually higher cause I grab a focus before heading out, and try to get at least an HoS off any shammy in zone if it dies.. If we got a shammy, I have no need for the slowstick anyways...

There was once a time when this was the best slow spell I had in my book. It wasnt as usefull in the 30's as slows are in the 50's. But there are only 2 items in the game with this proc and the ratio is nice even if its limited to rangers. Not sure if it has a minimum level but I got a Swarmcaller for 400pp for a guildie and he was very happy with it--lets solo rangers tank alot better. In groups Im going to slow mobs with better than this but its a nice weapon if there are no shaman or enchanters in your group. Will definately save the cleric some healing after it procs...

I can't believe the prices listed on the pricing data for this sword. No way should this weapon should sell for less then 2k. The unique feature of this weapon is it's ability to slow mobs up to 50 percent. Not many melees out there has the capability to slow mobs and this weapon gives us rangers that uniqueness. Just ask yourself how important it is to slowing a high- level hard-hitting mob? Imagine fighting in the planes without a shammy or chanty to help slow a mob. It's 50% slow matches that of our epic weapon: Earthcaller. That's what this sword can do for us rangers and people would actually sell this sword for under 1k? I keep one in my bag at all times and use it whenever my group needs a slower. The MT will love you for it and the chanty will too when he/she is getting the crap beaten down on them trying to slow a mob.
RE: OMG!?!?
# May 17 2003 at 7:33 PM Rating: Decent
I don't believe that the proc goes up on this weapon to 50 percent. If that was the case, then fbss and other haste items would also go up based on what you are saying. The box showing effect: Tagar's Insects is showing the spell information and not the minimum and maximum capabilities. While I don't know for sure how much slow is, I know it's not as good as the epic slow.

Boo ... and Hoo :p

" Waah ! Droppable-Class-Specific-Item-X was rolled on and I was the only character in the party who could use it! "

" NBG! NBG! NBG! "

Need-Before-Greed people are some of the biggest scammers in the game. And since the NBG EQ fraternity consists almost entirely of hopeless whiners, everyone who's not NBG hates these pathetic wretches with an insane, unholy passion.

And Karnors is one of the worst, if not THE worst, playground for NBG Con Men. While doing camps in the Basement, our group would get tells, TELLS, from rogues NOT IN THE GROUP demanding that they be allowed to loot the Mrylokar's Greeves if they happen to drop there! Loot FOR FREE a droppable, 20k+ platinum item! YOU'RE NOT EVEN IN THE BASEMENT GROUP, A$$! Take your NBG buttocks to Paineel and jump in the Hole, Prick.

Say a ranger gets a Swarmy, Lupine or piece of Tolans in KC. MAYBE he'll use it. Or maybe, MAYBE he'll say to himself: " Man ..i haven't kept up my two hand slash / piercing up " ...or... " this piece of Tolan's stinks compared to my CC armor " ... then the NBG ranger sells the item to finance his alt cleric. Yay, NBG :/

THEN you have the sh*t casters in Sebilis who'll roll on the high-end haste items and melee class weapons that drop there ... but let ONE spell drop that they can use and they're scream " NBG " until their lungs explode! IT DON'T MATTER that the dropped spell sells for over 40,000 platinum (yes, Orc Pawn Hunters, there are spells that cost that much), NBG caster who's JUST won the RBG will INSIST that it defaults to him ... and he'll have a **** fit for All Eternity if it doesn't.

NBG is a MONEY MAKING SCHEME, pure and simple. If the group you are with is nice enough to have this looting policy in place, good for them. If not, deal with it. Don't debate, don't whine ... and if you don't like it, leave and keep LFG.

NBG'ers need not fear that a piece of class-specific equipment is going to the wrong class. Because ... and EVERYone knows this ... that certain item eventually WILL go to a class that can use it.

So you mean to tell me that if i was the only ranger in group and a ranger only item drops. then everyone should roll on it. well thats BS and ill tell you why.
I was in a group for lupine dagger even though my friend was helping i was only ranger there. the amount of times this thing dropped because of the price tag of it group minus me and friend says Roll. we are like wtf. disband and put lfg. group leader asks why we disband and we tell him.
he goes well thats life, we can get a pretty penny for this weapon then defaulting to you.
i dont know how many times i lost items that i could use, cause as soon as one drops, group changes mind to roll instead of default.
so before you go cry baby think bout what you said. if there is a class where an item is usable by only that class in group it should default to him unless your as greedy as the rest of the bunch.
RE: Cry, Baby, Cry
# Nov 24 2002 at 11:18 AM Rating: Default
Actually, the people Khemosaabe listed above do not fall into the NBG category. They would fall into the GLW (Greedy Loot Whores)category. If you don't need an item but claim you do so you can get the item for resale value, then yes you are a scammer and should have your face stomped in.

IF you are in a pick up group, find out if it has a NBG policy before the good stuff drops. If it's not and you can't handle it, yes, disband and put your LFG tag back up. If not, deal with it and hope you get lucky with the die when your items drop.

I for one try not to join pick up groups because unfortunately there are lots of people out there who just have bad bad manners and are greedy A-holes. I prefer to group with guild members and friends whenever possible. We always look out for each other and try to improve each others gear as much as possible. If you don't have enough friends or a guild who does the same to group with regualarly, then you are probably one of the people I mentioned above and most likely need to have your face stomped in.

Oh, and anyone who sits around and tells people they must be allowed to loot items they had no part in obtaining just because it's for their class is a complete dumb A$$ and deserves nothing more than an /ignore <insert dumb_a$$_name_01 here>.

Sadly, we have all been victims of the NGB scam artists, and this chap above had just hit his breaking point. We have all been there once or twice, and we have all seen the frustration and pain.

Personally, I think it is very important to understand when you enter a group, how the group is going to allocate probable loot drops. Generally, when you go to a particular camp, you have a general expectation of what will drop, and wheather or not that item is a significant upgrade for a member of the group. As a level 51 ranger armed with my trusty SSoYeksha, camping in KC Tower, I had a general expectaion, as did my group, that the Lupine dagger drop would go to me because it was a major improvement. With that established, I was out on all other loot drops for the group. Simple. Clean. At the time ...

Now that I am a bit older I will sometimes hit camps in search of AA where all the group members are level 60 with x AA. It is a general expectation that all the drops in those camps are allocated by the Drinal /random 200 500 method, with the top roller chosing, on down the line.

Once you hit a certain level, nearly everyone knows or has heard of everyone else in the group. Scam artists are well known across the server, and your reputation, good or poor, will preceed you. Many guilds will purge the whinners and scam artists, so make it a policy to be fair in all of your dealings.

So when you enter into a group, ensure that the loot rules are agreed upon prior to pulling the first mob. It saves feelings and preserves reputations.

NBG may be nice sounding, but i agree it never works if the item is dropable. Btw khemosaabe your post could have said the same without being a total flame. I am guessing that you are just a troll poster anyway...

Oh and we have all fallen to the NBG scam and also lost something we truely would have used.
RE: Cry, Baby, Cry
# Oct 05 2002 at 2:04 PM Rating: Decent
/agrees with Gavindar

It seems to me, that you simply haven't understood the concept of NBG. Which is NBG is only in effect if the item would be an upgrade to a player in the group. So in your lovely example of the ranger having a better item, than the Tolan item dropping, he or she would simply not be allowed to roll.

Yes you can cheat with this, but I rather get cheated once and 10 other times make a player happy cause he or she gets and upgrade.

All I can say is when I was a young ranger of 51, this dropped and my group defaulted to me. I still have it at 56. When your chanter goes LD, who is going to slow that mob if the group doesn't have shammie? That's right. Your're friendly neighborhood Ranger. I suppose if a class specific spell drops Kyung wouldn't default it either becuase they'll probably just sell it. UNBELIEVABLE line of reasoning there bro.
RE: Bad Groups

Few things tick me off more than greedy peeps rolling for a class/race/diety specific item that they cannot POSSIBLY use. If there is anyone in the group who is that specific class that the item requires they and only they should get it. The only exception I can see to this is if they already have something vastly superior and will simply sell, in which case everyone should just roll for it. Case in point, my best friend(in RL and in EQ)is a 53 Champion who sadly is still wearing a Crafted BP. One day while in Velk's he rolled for Barbed Ringmail twice and both times lost to a pure caster, AND got kicked out of the group he was in for ********* Personally I think this is bit messed up, but thats just my 2cp.

Happy Hunting All :)
RE: Bad Groups
# May 21 2002 at 9:36 PM Rating: Default
Just because someone was too lazy to spend time improving their equipment before level 53 doesn't mean they should be handed items as a reward. Handing people items just because their class can use it is a bad idea, i believe most of the time it ends up getting sold by the class that got it only because they could use it also.

If the item is tradable it can be sold. All class can sell loot and use the cash to buy items they want. Everyone good wins then, everyone gets to roll equally on a item, the winner gets to sell it to buy that super item they have been wanting and the person that buys it gets the item without having to wait hours, days years camping it. The only loser is that lamer greedy person that is expecting free loot because it happens to say RNG and they are a RNG, regardless of the fact that they are going to be shouting, "/WTS ____ Item ___ price PST" a hour later.

Honestly no class 'needs', its all wants. we all want items, we don't need better items. if that warrior was in a group in velks with junk loot obviously he didn't "need" better, he coulda used/wanted better but certainly didn't need.

Oh and to the 53 warrior with garbage equipment he should be happy he even gets a group in velks with items like that, let alone gets to roll when he whines. His group probably woulda booted him anyway because he was a drain on the cleric's mana, being lame and whining about losing and acting extremely greedy was probably just icing on the cake.
#REDACTED, Posted: Aug 30 2002 at 4:35 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) i Thik kyulng kinda has a point! i mean at that lvl a war should have WAY better stuff no matter what! Unless he has done nothing but lvl up as fast as he can! and that aint learning your character very well. My main on the AB server is my 46 ranger. And lets say i am happy with his equipment for some 1 untwinked. (LSoEE and defiance for weapons, Sum tolan's SCHW and barbed ringmail to name few! also got nature's wrath for me 2hb hehe) ok i may have spent a lot of time trading. but i still got 5k to spend. Also my ranger has over 50 days playing time. And also know my class V well. So I dont think this war at 52 or whatever should really get in groups when he got equipment like that. WAR = TANK, TANK = TAKE HITS, Having crap armour = Low AC, Low AC = Takes MUCH more damage, Taking much more damage = Lotsa heals required, Lotsa healing = cleric oom! and a cleric at that lvl should at least have 200 wis! and even with c3 its a pain trying to get to FM. So if that war is on AB and i see him i'll just have to buy him sumthing
RE: Bad Groups

Kyung that is one of the most assbackwards statements I have seen on these boards in quite some time. You are saying that person XXXXX should not get a group in Velks because of the fact he has "garbage" equipment?? How was he supposed to upgrade??? Sit in EC for 2 months to buy and sell??? Sure he could have been a loot ***** while leveling his character but the average person who is untwinked does not have that much cash. His next viable upgrade is...a treeweave? A TW is about 1-2k depending on servers, and thats just for a single piece of equipment. I hope that an item that you want more than anything happens to drop and some class that has absolutely no use for it wins, then come tell me about not having need before greed.

And as far not getting a group because of equipment goes...ill take the guy in crafted who has leveled and worked hard for those levels over some *** twinked out who was powerleveled. Grow up and realize that items arent everything, neither is money.

I agree with usaftrey. Kyung, your reasoning and motivation is pure greed, plain and simple. I've been in groups with people such as yourself where a party member (only occasionally myself) was denied a substantial upgrade because other people were greedy. I was in a group right after Kunark came out where this happened to a wizard. We were in Dalnir's and one of the ceremonial daggers dropped. It was a substantial upgrade for the wizard but of no benefit to the other members of the group. I voiced my opinion and refused to roll on the object (nicely I might add) for which I recieved nothing but verbal abuse. Meanwhile, my guild was forming a group elsewhere and a ranger and a wizard fit the bill. I invited the wizard to come with me and in between fights (I'm not an ***, I don't ditch during a fight) we disbanded and ported out. In the next few hours that wizzy had lots of fun, got a few upgrades and ended up joining our guild. We all believe in need before greed and we're a lot stronger for it.

My opinion is that people have a right to play the way they want to play but I have the right to refuse to play with those sorts of people and I will walk out. Loot whores are not tolerated in my groups and I am, more often than not, leader of said groups. It benefits me more to ensure that those people I group/guild with are well equipped and in the process I earn loyalty and quite often friends.

We still roll on some things but not needed upgrades.
RE: Bad Groups
# Jul 25 2002 at 2:29 PM Rating: Decent
Lol you are calling other people greedy, when what you are saying is that you want things handed to you simply because you are the only class that can use it. Everyone in the party cooperated and worked hard at the group... clerics healed, melees fought, casters mezzed, blasted, rooted, etc etc. Why shouldn't they all be able to share equally in the loot that drops?? The ranger had just as much a chance to win the roll as anyone else, but they didn't, so stop whining and keep camping it, maybe you'll win the next one. I have been screwed so many times, not being allowed to roll on supposed melee items (I am a cleric, btw) that I am sick of this NBG crap. I would say without hesitation that some of the most frequently camped areas (talking pick-up groups) of the game drop 90% melee-oriented stuff, i.e. all areas of velks, most of sebilis, Howling stones.... 90% of the crap is melee. That means, a cleric like myself, following YOUR rules, has to follow behind the melees and watch as they all get upgraded, while I just spend lots of cash on dots. NBG has never worked in my favor, so I refuse to apply it to the poor, poor melees... who more often than not are secondary characters and twinks.
If you want things to work as NBG (need before greed), join a guild, thats the way mine works. If you don't like guilds, get a group of five friends that always are on at the same time, and agree to go camp whatever piece of equipment you expect them to just hand over to you. But if you are in a pick-up group, don't expect 5 strangers to just friggin give you upgrades. Their time, abilities, and characters are worth just as much as yours, and they are entitled to roll on items equally, regardless of who can best use. If they decide to play by NBG, thats great!!! But if you EXPECT them to, then you are the selfish one, my friend.

"join a guild, thats the way mine works" LOL!! So what your saying is that your leadership, and the majority of your Guildies thinks that NBG is a better policy? And you don't. Hmmmmmm So who is the greedy one here? Being a Druid, I could care either way. I quad, make money, and zoom off to the Bazaar to buy what I need. On the rare occasions that I group, I care more about Positive Group Dynamics- Both systems can and will work- As long as all members agree on ONE system.

Missed my point completely, but then you are a quadding druid, so not surprised....
NBG is great, and is the way to go.... in GUILDS. In pickup groups, absolutely NOT in my opinion... heck, you could be grouping with a melee in velks that has been camping frenzy for 3 days straight, and as soon as he is in a new group of players, he screams NBG so that the crystal bracer and SCHW defaults to him. Thats such BS, the only fair way to handle a situation where everyone is more or less a stranger to everyone else is to roll ALL loot, unless the group as a whole can agree on some other method. Sure, there have been plenty of times when I look at another player, and I have a good feeling they are not a twink or 2ndary character, and so I don't mind giving them items that really help them out. But its the uber twinks or pharming 60s wearing CoFs, wanting to use the NBG in order to get that RBG or handwraps defaulted to them that really chafes my dwarvish tucus.
the way I see it

I am personally not a fan of 2 hand weapons at all.

But-

40 percent slow cannot be laughed at.

~Whether soloing
~Whether grouped without a slower
~Or melee dueling

Thru six levels of fighting in Karnors Castle, I have seen the Swarmcaller drop once. And yer damn right, I got it. At the time I had only mastered 1hs and 1h pierce. Cuz I love 1h slash, and I happened across my Lupine dagger a while back.
Well, time to start from scratch for 2hs for me. I was bummed. But I found a GREAT way to have my 2hs skill skyrocket. All you need is a chanter in your group, to 1.Haste 2. Give you a INT/WIS buff, and 3. to 'boon' you (increases attack and dexterity).
Within one night I had surpassed 100 in skill, and the next night post 150 in skill. Good stuff.
I speculate within a week I will have maxed my 2hs this way, and have another great weapon, and proc, to bring to the battlefield.
My plan is to use this blade to slow target, if no caster can, and then resume with my blending (1hs/1hp). My two cents.

Does anyone know if particular races/classes have worse luck in rolling? I'd like to think i'm the worst roller in all Norath, but i'm sure that goes for everyone. Lost a roll on this last night (6/200) :) oh well, atleast it's fun to smush da baddies dat drop it.

I picked up one of these the otehr day and i have been very happy with it. THis makes me sorry that i didnd work on my 2hs skill when i was lower. When soloing should i use this until it procs and then switch to my 2 1hs (venomous axe of the velium brood, defiance) or just keep on using this until the creature is dead?

I would almost definitely use till proc, then switch off to 2 1h weapons after, as a ranger your dual wield skill is slightly higher pre-50 than other classes (with the exception of monks) so you gain a much higher benefit from using 2 1hs weapons, not to mention that using the call of sky spell, the more chances that spell has to proc, the more damage you do. Just my opinion.
i love this sword
