This is also a hybrid's dream--don't knock the melees just because they don't need the intelligence. Only classes who wouldn't use this are rogues, rangers, and monks (and warriors)
I'd say the classes that would USE this as standard equip are: All casters All preists Shadowknight Paladin
Of those classes I'd say enchanter needs it the most followed closely by paladin and SK.
Enchanters take tons of hits. If they die the whole party or RAID dies. Thier shield options are a bit more limited then the other classes who can easily obtain a ac25+ shield with similar or better stats.
You never see a rogue, monk, warrior, ranger or bard using a shield. They would want it...but unless they use it as standard equipment...your not getting the best bang for the buck.
Mage, Necro, Wiz, Druid, Shaman, Cleric...they aren't supossed to tank and if they did it's usually thier fault, or because the enchanter died.
As a cleric, I've got to say, I end up tanking (as in standing there taking punishment) quite often. This happens when the puller gets back to camp in bad shape and needs an immediate heal cuz. So I usually send out a sup heal towards the puller, a celestial healing to the chanter, and finaly a celestial healing to the puller agin. If the mobs are still on me, I stand there until they get mezzed or I have less than 2 bubbs health. At 2 bubbs health, I send another celestial healing to the chanter and go divine barrier.
The beginning part of this scenario happens at least once a night and I have to click DB at least once a month.
i have to agree - enchanters are always high on the aggro list and have ***** all HP and AC normally. I'd expect the enchanter would get first dibs on this sucker. Good point raised above - if druids/shamans and the like are tanking then they should seriously look at how they play....
I'll give you that an enchanter needs any AC they can get, but why the rip on shaman??? We're up there on the aggro list darn near as bad as the enchanter. And a GOOD shaman times their debuff and slow to land right after good ole Tash. My shaman's AC is considerably higher than most enchanters. Other than a full on dragon encounter where aggro=death for any caster class(who cares what your ac is), a good shaman pulls aggro off the chanter (thinking of adds here...MA has aggro on the one being attacked.. if not someone is not playing their class right). I have the hp and ac to absorb a few blows from the (hopefully) slowed add while the chanter lands a mez. Worst case scenario is that I eat a death, but the chanter (and thus the raid) stays alive.
Any way you look at it though, most of the non dual weilding classes can make good benefit out of this item.
Now that I've reached a level where my int and cha are maxxed I'm more interested in surviving a few shots off level 55+ mobs. Enchanters get bashed on more than any other caster.
I would love this shield too! Don't really get killed because of hits yet *that* much at 43rd level yet but i do feel it when someone casts dot's on the mobs and i cant mez it or root it very well. Could save you a couple of times perhaps if you cut it really close...
Sounds neat, but what drops it? I'm a little big leary of the pluses, AND 35ac. only rare.. I think a little more than that, and the mob must be quite tough, to drop something like this.
Looks better than most of the caster eq out there. Just add in continous clarity II, and..
Spawns behind King Tormax, through the quest hall, right at the back left corner. He seems to spawn every 30 hours
The key is to get Fjokar Frozenshard to help you kill him. . He is lvl 55, hits for 600, backstabs for 282 and flurries. Which means with flurry and double backstab, he has the chance to land upto 4 backstabs at a time
This item is not only good for casters, but also melee classes. Specifically non dual wielders such as Paladin...Shadowknight...etc. The 35 AC and 75 HP are really excellent (especially for us AC starved Rangers). Not to mention that it is thankfully not NO DROP...but it's an obvious guess that the price on this will be through the roof and the spawn always camped. (Not like that's unusual or anything). Overall though, very nice IMO.
