VI recently gave out un-nerfed versions of this staff to the people who had previously received nerfed versions, so I have an original now... and it has no effect on it. No C2. Sorry folks.
we were also at fan fare, i agree with all he said there were also people combining items from multipule teams theres no way to win these without cheating, they did random 4 more between 1400 people was cool had a 9 year old win one from our server
Well, I was at the Minneapolis Fan Faire and was participating in the real life quest. The prizes where staffs/swords of the gathering. It was not stated in the rules, but the use of cell phones and walkie talkies (ect) got you disqualified (there was a guy taking down names). We diddn't cheat. We did better than everyone we talked to. We where a few mins fom finishing but we had to turn it in due to the time limit. One other team we talked to did as well as us but they used walkie talkies. We thaught we had it in the bag. Wrong. That group diddn't win, but another that had been using walkie talkies did win. Some just slip through the cracks. Lucky bastards. If you guys read this, I hope you're pleased with your weapons. Cheaters never win? Cheaters sometimes win, apparently.
I play a chanter as an alternate and would LOVE to have this item. When I saw it here I thought hmmm... maybe I can get one somehow, but it's an item only given out by GMs. No biggie. There are other things out there.
And for those of you complaining... get over it!
I play a rogue and there are MUCH better items out there for wis and int casters than there are for rogues. (Except for maybe druids, they kinda got screwed if ya ask me.. my condolences)
Guys, it's a GAME. Have fun with it. Don't get involved in immature games like "My dad can beat up your dad" or "My fire truck is more red than yours". BAH!
Alystin Ravenblade Rogue of the 34th (almost 35th) season Fate's Sentinels Zebuxoruk
You spend WAY too much time worrying aboot the things that you cant get....go play the game you became addicted to so many moons ago...ITS A GAME....go run along and play it! It is a nice weapon...be nice to have one i agree....but i dont...i guess i'll live!
man, who really cares. i'm a lvl 17 wearing about 2kpp worth o gear. I've never been twinked, i earned it all. I am a master brewer, baker, potter, blacksmith, and yes, at only lvl 17, master tailor. Took me five months in EK to master tailoring, but i wanted it, and i got it. Just log in and play the game. It's called everquest, not lewtquest or levelquest. I could start a lvl 1 anything right now and have a ton of fun killing decaying skellies with no armor on at all. no gear no money no nuthin. A staff of what? just log in and play ROFL :)
First off i thought that this was just a 5int staff, and I was about to **** and moan on how the melees get a 14dmg 22dly 7str/sta sword...and we get this... But then i found out it has clarity2 effect, so now i think the melees got screwed over, but oh well ^_^
P.S. Anyone know if you had to be a certain lvl to be able to use the effect?
The latest patch removed the "Effect: " line from this item for all NON-UBER versions of this staff.
And for all those that are complaining about not having a shot to gain this tiem, one question: If you HAD gone to the Fan Faire, and HAD won one of these, would you have refused it because people not at the event had no chance to gain one?
One day I was running around in Qeynos and saw a newbie character carrying the staff of the gathering, though at the time I did not know what it was. I was totaly awe-struck and asked to inspect the player but all he had was a torch. Appairently the graphic for the torch got mixed up with the graphic for the staff. I took some screenshots of the staff and posted them on my guilds web-sight and from that screen shot a guildmate recongnized what it was.
I was sadded and, yes, a little angered when I found out that I would never have a shot at this item. Like the mother, who supports 2 children, I don't have an opportunity to go to these convetions. The staff is beautiful and is just the type of item that I would have loved to seen my High Elf Cleric weild. It looks almost like a holy symbol...
What Verrant should have done is given the players there choice of any weapon or item in the allready in the game. Not give out some incredible unique item that they know everyone would want. My 10 dollors is as good as yours, and I should have an in-game shot at this item. If the situation was reversed you know as sure as you can write me off as some "whinner" that you would feel the same way.
Finally tracked down the info on the "proc". Apparently there are TWO versions of this staff. The "common drop" has no proc, and will have no proc. The "rare drop" DOES have a proc, which is the Clarity II (self only) listed in another thread. IF you look at the list of the winners there are 4 "uber-weapon" winners listed at the bottom. They are the ones that received the proc version of the sword/staff. Everybody else (incl me) got the lesser, non-procing weapon.
I was at this Fan Faire. What they mean when they say this person gave it to a low level druid of theirs is that the winners of the prizes were able to decide which of their characters actually received the item. They had to petition their server GM to award the prize. The GM only cared that it was the proper station name, not what character it was.
Everything is correct, except that they sat us down after the dinner in a side room that they had set up with 2 side-by-side computers, and had each one of us log in while a GM sat next to us on the other puter. We got our prizes that evening. But yes, it was the PLAYER who won, not the character, so I could have put a Staff on my level 8 mage if I had wanted to (sword went to my 46 warrior, of course :) )

This is a bribe from Verant to attend their little conventions and give them more money and it is not fair to those who don't go to their conventions, but still pay the same $10.00 a month.
lol you sad sad lil person people didnt go to win the prizes ther were only about 25 of the wepons hadded out out of 1200 people people went to have a good time and see some of the faces behind the toons

#Anonymous,
Posted:Feb 19 2001 at 3:09 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) i agree with the person that said " i hope it rots".....be sensiable people....he has a point. verant has placed a bias here. First they drain youof thier money, then they help you very little with in game things, then they expect you to go to some fanfare...and spend a few more bucks, then they raffle off some lore item to a few select that decided to waste more money to go thier in the first place. this is simple socialist capitilism at it's finest. Common knowledge is to allow everyone a fair shot at this. Make it set for a appt lvl, then build a quest around it and make it in game......to do something like this is totally uncalled for. I work 2 jobs and feed my kids and pay my bills. i dont have time to go to some fan fest. it should have been made a rare drop/quest item, give everyone a chance at it
Such a wonderful weapon...one that, compared to the number of EQ players, can be considered greater than UltraRare. I find it interesting that only such an item would be given out under absolute special events such as a FanFaire. I can understand the points being made by both sides of this argument. Would I turn it down if I was at the FanFaire..of course not. Who would. Do I think it's fair that ONLY ppl at the FanFaire got it...no. Was I at the FanFaire? Yeah Right! I work on minimum wage, don't drive, didn't have friends that went, couldn't afford to go...period - nor do I plan on selling my soul to get there. What is more important to me...EQ or RL? Hmmmm. RL, naturally. What Verant should have done is, at the very least, give out the proc version of this to those at the FanFaire and the non-proc as an EVENT item IN-GAME for those that couldn't attend the FanFaire for whatever reason. That would've been the LEAST they could've done. Am I griping? No since I only have 1 character that could use the weapon but there are other weapons that fit my purposes more than this one. Sure it would've been nice but not critical. What I'm talking about here is the sheer lack of thought about doing something like this on the part of Verant - especially on the consideration that it is much like a slap in the face to those that wouldn't or couldn't go to the FanFaire. Does this make me want to go to the next one? Nope. In fact, it is due to this that I'll be sure NOT to attend a FanFaire. I'll let you figure out my logic behind THAT decision. Trust me, once YOU get it, then maybe, just maybe, Verant may clue in. ;)
There are plenty of "rare drops" and "quest items" out there for anyone to tackle. This was a singular special event where a handful of people got these items. Someone having this weapon isn't going to spoil the game for you.
Is this item unbalanced? Maybe a little. But it wasn't mass produced, so whether or not it's balanced is negligible.
Haha.. words from a envious looser.. Those that attended paid more than 10 bucks just to go.. add the money they spent on having fun, and it starts getting expensive. And what stopped YOU from going?
Effect is pretty nice My friend got one but, i figure theres a reason why allakazham didnt put up , so i wont say unless asked BTW the proc made me ench friend mad
Can someone confirm the information that this staff have clarity2 effect? Geez Verant is really good about creating imbalanced, talk me about mourning BP too... Now almost every class can have clarity... Why not creating a staff with unlimitted SOW as it goes now LOL. I guess that's what they meant by role playing differents classes. =(
I really wish its no longer dropped like says on the beggining.
Since these were given ONLY to people on the Drinal server, and ONLY a few people at that, I doubt it will have any effect on 99.9% of the people reading this post. No imbalance issues.
I really don't see the problem with it. So it casts Clarity II, it would give the ench of the group a break, and the weild would have fun showing off his new toy. And as for SoW, there are SoW potions with 10 charges now, always been JBoots, and there are various other ways to get a SoW yourself without someone else casting on you.
Now if the staff became common, that could be a problem, but as it is right now, no need to worry
<ahem> this item was given out at the fan faire in baltimore. no idea how many were given out, but not enough to imbalance the game.. sheesh
and allakhazam's doesn't give a shiz about the effect of the item, they would post it if it was instant death to any target with no casting time right clickable...
the proc is right-clickable unlimited charges of clarity 2....but with only a couple on each server i don't understand why people should be upset...who cares that one of the winners gave this to their level 17 druid...not me, and i play an enchanter as my main...nice item if you ask me =)
Very nice weapon for mage. Wish all the good items were actually obtainable for people who don't devote their entire lives to a game. Not to mention it would be nice to have some more GM's giving out uber stuff like this in BRELL. I'm not mad, jealous yes.
I received one of the Swords of the Gathering, and the proc is broken on it. I was assuming it was the same for the staff, since both list no effect with it. The sword will be fixed with the next patch, so if the staff is similiarly bugged, it will also be fixed then.
This Weapon Never dropped and never will. It is a prize given out to us that won the real life quest at the Fan Faire. The only way to obtain on is to go to the next Fan Faire in San Diego and win the competition
