Quickest way to raise baking
# Feb 13 2003 at 1:57 AM Rating: Decent
Just go with fishrolls. They trivial at like 135. You can buy stacks of them both in PoK, not sure of loc of exact merchants. Then just sit and combine. Shouldnt cost you more then arround 50pp to raise baking as high as you need it for this.

You can buy batwings from the Dark Elf merchant in the booth of the west tradeskill building (has the fishing pond in the courtyard). Then go to the Barbarian fisherman and buy fresh fish. I sold my fishrolls back to the merchant next to the ovens and I think over all, I only spent 10 to 15 pp.
Baking Supplies
# Dec 26 2002 at 8:27 AM Rating: Decent
In Jaggedpine (hut with banker) there are 3 vendors with supplies to get you to 135 baking without having to move. Just watch out for the Gnoll's taking over the town.
How to get the 3rd shawl in less than 24 hours
# Oct 22 2002 at 4:21 PM Rating: Good
At level 39 on my enchanter i got my pottery and baking to 135 before starting. Get into a frost giant group in GD if you are worried about faction(if you cant get in one just hit the giants while a group kills them). I would also suggest going to lavastorm and kill basilisks for their eggs as combining them to make dough gives you 15 if you dont already have dough. The first part was easy, just go to bazaar and buy tundra kodiak meat for around 75pp then make the sandwhich. For the Snowbunny Stew go to EW and shout or auction for it, most likely someone will send you a tell(you also need a pot for this which is why i got my pottery to 135). Again, go to EW and get in an ulthork group or shout/auction for meat, make the pie tin and then the clump of dough with the basilisk eggs I mentioned earlier. This is the last and hardest part, the Snow Griffon Souffle. Go back to EW and if you cant solo or track the griffons i suggest getting a partner(i got a 51 bard to help me) after constant tracking/killing we got 4 eggs to drop in approx. 3 hours. Combine the ingrediants to make the souffle and quickly turn it in before you have a chance to eat it.(in case your wondering i had kindly/warmly faction for doing quest 1 2 and 3) DONT FORGET TO TURN IN THE NAPKINS ALSO! =)
Faction
# May 09 2002 at 5:06 PM Rating: Default
Do you need a specific Coldain faction to complete this quest. I have Amiable faction and did all of this quest, including giving Grand Historian Thoridain the souffle and napkin. To my horror, he then said to me, I do not deal with your kind, eating both items........ Gotta say, I was gutted.
Do I have a petition here or not?
RE: Faction
# Jun 18 2002 at 4:04 PM Rating: Default
I was able to do the 1st two Shawl quests with "Ally" faction. I currently believe you need max faction with them to do some parts of the others (ie. "can not get any better")

The best way to tell if you can do a quest is to talk to the NPC...if he will give you the quest info and he is the one you are turning things in to, you should be able to do the quest.

everything that u need and drops is all in EW, not far off from IC bridge, i found so many griffs north and south of the bridge it made me cry for the ppl who had a tough time ... so now that u know its easier, go out there and get it done, took me about 3 hours to get all the pieces i needed for the 3rd shawl woot
RE: easily done

I've spent some time in EW as a RNG fear kiting there, and i've found out Grifs can easily be found at at least 4 places in EW. there must be other places i don't know of, but in my experience you'll easily find some in the following areas:

1. By Korrigain & Icefang's hut you'll find a tree where mammoths/giants will wander and stop by for some time before they turn back and go away if you don't pull them, occasionnaly a grif/ elder grif will spawn there.

2. near ramp to Kael you'll often find up to 2 grifs up at the same time. just beware of roaming manticores that also spawn/ pass there

3. near the entrance to Sleeper Tomb, there're in fact got 2 spawning spots:
face southward, on your left up on a nearby cliff is a tree where some grifs will spawn. Fear kite some mob around slepper's tomb and their pathing will lead you to that tree. The second place is a bit farer, also by a tree when you go toward Korrigain's hut.

4. between Garadain Glacierbane's hut and Rygor
fort

I've hunted grifs for 3rd shawl, failed the first combine for the souffle despite 143 Baking/ 113 DEX, and had to go to EW and find 4 eggs again... which i luckily managed to do quite fast (took me may be 5-6 grifs) and finally got my shawl & seal.

Later all,

what do you mean "I've hunted grifs for 3rd shawl, failed the first combine for the souffle despite 143 Baking/ 113 DEX"? What does your DEX have to do with it? Either your WIS or INT, whichever is higher, is what determines successes and skill ups. I am glad I have 221 INT, I think it is going to be easier than usual doing this and the later quests, at least with the combining parts. I am already a master smith, baker, jewelcrafter, and brewer, and I am going to work on my pottery more and start tailoring up soon. Fun fun quests...

I wish I could say I had the same luck.. im a 48 cleric and my wisdom is around .. 278 atm.. even though its capped at 255... I failed the first combine 3 times.. then then souffe twice.. needless to say I was rather miffed.
RE: easily done
# Mar 12 2004 at 8:21 AM Rating: Decent
Success in baking has nothing to do with wisdom. Success is based purely on skill and any skill modifiers (such as a geerlok). Wisdom affects whether you get a skill up from the combine, not whether you get a successful product.

Lvl your cooking fast
# Dec 15 2001 at 1:07 PM Rating: Decent
If you need to increase your cooking before you do this quest I would suggest getting stacks of fresh fish and bat wings and cook cook cook.
The best place for this is freeport, go up to the Arcane Library where all the pure castors spells are and take the little teleporter to the house then go up the stairs.

The first lady sell bat wings and has an unlimited supply, trust me i bought 40 stacks at once and she still had more. I think the libarary is in west freeport then go to south freeport and at the docks is the fish man inside the port athority place, if i remember right, and buy your fish,

Now you have 2 choices use the oven which is in the travelers inn just west of the fish store or buy your own stove which is also sold at the same place.

I got from 0 yes i said 0 to 135 in about 4 or 5 hours of borring cooking, do not remember how many stacks it took but I did have 200 int when i started cooking it cost me about 40pp with the 200int and 110 cha to get from 0 to 135.

Thus after you do that you should have no problems with this quest, i hope will let you know going to start mine real soon
Making Griffs Spawn
# Dec 03 2001 at 12:09 PM Rating: Excellent
OK..Here is my story.
I didn't find any Griffs for about an hour.. nobody else was killing any of the yard trash. Then I thought.. OK.. Kill Mammoths let's find out if people are right... WRONG... Another half hour of nada and I killed a bunch of them.
Then I thought.. I hate rabbits..so I started killing the little bunnies. POP...POP...POP....They started popping.

Summary... KILL DA RABBBIT... KILL DA RABBBITTT.
Eggs dropping more now
# Nov 13 2001 at 3:42 PM Rating: Decent
Just to let everyone know, the eggs seem to be dropping MUCH more frequently now. Ranger friend and I ran around to get them for me, took me 6 or 7 griffs to get 4 eggs. That's much better than what I'd heard the drop rate was in the past. So get out there and slay some birds..
Snow Griffin Eggs
# Oct 29 2001 at 4:50 PM Rating: Decent
Took two weeks, off and on, to get the 4 snow griffin eggs. Worked baking up to high 130's, then tried to make the souffle. Failed. It will be a while before I go back to this quest given the difficulty of finding the snow griffins, the rarity of their dropping the egg, and the imposition on my ranger and druid friend to find the birds. Working on the skills is a lot of fun and rewarding, but those snow griffins! Must be a shortage of female ones.
It's part of the game
# May 04 2001 at 2:21 PM Rating: Decent
The game is called "EverQuest". This is a quest. It's a great quest that makes you work on your skills (great idea, btw). What makes this so cool, is the break from the mind numbing killing for the "phat l3wts".

Hey guys, I have finished this quest and watned to share with you something which i learned. IN order to finish this quest you need to be around 130-140 skill in baking for all the baked items to be trivial, so here's how I did it. I want to Freeport, the vendor at the docks (the building you have to pass torough in order to get off the docks=)) he sells fish, but like 500 of those*(teehee), then Katha something (In East COmmons, last inn before the West commons zone; she's a erudite standing in a hut) sells batwings(i have bought 1000's here, they are her regular vendor item) so buy ALOT of bat wings, then just take one part batwing, and one part fish and keep going until you run out fo ingredients. not only were the ingredients vendor sold with minimal running between vendors, but for about 25p and 1 hour of my time I got my Baking skill to 135. hope someone finds this of use ~Solcatcher Solsnatcher

# Sep 18 2001 at 1:56 PM Rating: Decent
You are absolutely correct! I did the same thing to get to 135, except that I bounced between "Parther" in EC and the fish salesman in EFreeport making Fish Head Soup and Fish fillets just so I wouldn't have so many fails. Anyways, it is a great way to get the skill up and is cheap and fast. ANd after all isn't it just a little out of character for a Barbarian Shaman to be baking cookies?!?!?!

RE: Cooking!~
# Apr 30 2001 at 4:45 AM Rating: Excellent
That's a good point.
You can make it even faster, as there's a merchant selling batwings in the academy of magical studies in West Freeport.
( http://eqatlas.com/wfreeportmap.html ; quoted "5").
RE: Cooking!~
# Oct 03 2001 at 2:16 AM Rating: Decent
I did it by buying firstly sauces at the first Inn in EC then running to NRo tot he small fish huts there to buy the fish.. take a portable spit with you. Then when trivial get fish in NRo and batwings from the third Inn in EC (near WC zone) and combine. These two recipes will get you to 135 baking fast and are close together. No having to bother with running around Freeport :)
RE: Cooking!~
# Dec 02 2002 at 4:07 PM Rating: Good
> These two recipes will get you to 135 baking

As you can read it on eqtraders.com, there's an even simpler way to become a master Baker:

First get yourself a fileting knife (made mine with only couple of tries and 38 Smithing skill).

Then go to Mordrin's shop in Thurgadin where you'll buy stacks of Bear Meat.
Put 1 bear meat loaf + fileting knife in the oven and combine.

After 1-4 hours depending on your WIS/INT, you can get to 143 Baking with a single recipe and in a single location.

Take care

it seemed the lizardscale mantle is just as good with 3wis and 3int and with 2ac better too. What is the point in getting this mantle if the above the result of the 9 or 10 part quest. anyone?
RE: stats on the shawl
# Jun 10 2001 at 6:22 PM Rating: Good
Lizardscale mantle maybe better for you but i'm a mage and I can't use it.

And by finishing this quest, you also get the uber Seal of Thoridain, so you actually gain 6 int for finishing this quest (less what you already had in range and shoulder spots of course). Seal of Thoridain is a little better than the Dustscryers Crystal Ball I had.

It's part of a series of quests...try doing the fourth quest afterwards (relatively simple) and this gets upgraded to an AC 4 wis+4 int+4 sv cold+4 shoulder piece. Supposedly the few people that make it through the whole series of quests, once they're all in, "won't feel shortchanged in the least".

Besides, the quest that results in this shawl also has a side bonus of a Seal of Thoridain, an AC 3 wis+3 int+3 sv magic+3 sv cold+3 mana+30 range slot item. That alone makes the quest worthwhile.
RE: stats on the shawl
# Sep 09 2001 at 9:31 AM Rating: Decent
from what i understand, the 7th shawl (the last reward shawl for the last quest) gives a mana regen. teh shawl's stats also kick ***. the woven coldain prayer shawl is number 3 in the quest and it is not meant to be worn, cause by the time you are doing that quest there's a good chance you have something better on.
RE: stats on the shawl
# May 01 2001 at 11:31 AM Rating: Default
According to picture this is worn on the should, Lizard Scale mantle is worn on the back. Is this picture correct? Is it a back or shoulder item.
#Anonymous, Posted: May 03 2001 at 4:37 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) The Lizard Scale Mantle aint worn on the back.. I've had one forever and it's a sholder item, try to know what you're talking about first, before posting and confusing those who don't know. Also the main point of this compared to the Lizard Scale Mantle for those of you on "CareBare" servers, is that this item is " NoDrop".. :P

Lizard scale mantle cant be worn by casters..
pure casters anyway
# May 15 2001 at 2:24 AM Rating: Default
Well not by pure casters, anyway. Still druids, clerics and shamen might want this nevertheless, as one also gets a small Resist bonus from it ( Even if druids have the incredibly 'uber' Ivy braided Cords for their shoulders slots - WIS +5 and AC 4 item of a level 25th mob..) and qualifies for the next part of the quest. Pretty nice !

#REDACTED, Posted: Mar 01 2001 at 1:03 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) I wouldn't trade my loam amice for this. Loam amice is way better 4ac, 8agi, the same 3int, 2 to all saves and 10mana???? Get off the drugs Kazooie.
RE: Loam amice
# Apr 27 2001 at 9:28 PM Rating: Decent
The Load Amice is a bit more expensive to acquire though. That's why this quest is so great. You don't need anything you find off a rare spawn, there really arn't any rare drops. Its just cheep simple things.
RE: Loam amice
# Jan 18 2002 at 12:38 PM Rating: Decent
So you think Snow Griffins are common spawn and their eggs common drop? And even if, they are so hard camped, it takes ages to get those 4 freaking eggs. I was really shaking when I hit combine for the souffle. But that was only on 3rd shawl, now i have 7th. Hope 8th will be released soon.

Hard quest, but I love it as much as I hate it =)

This is a great shoulder piece for int as well as wis casters. It makes hte loam amice price drop wayyy down, especially with what new additions to the quest that may happen. Oh, and yes he did have to advertise his name and level because he was the first to do it, and deserves recognition. so there. grats Dyllwin!
