ok, I read about half the posts here, got tired of reading the same stuff over and over again. Being one of those "uber" clerics, I can tell you that this weapon proc is NOT useless, it is situational. There are times healing that if I sit down, yes, I will get agro. However, if I instead beat on the mob for a few seconds while the tank builds up more agro, then sit, I am fine. This weapon + yaulp 5/6 (which give 75 and 90 Dex respectively *edit* yaulp 5/6 also give 25 to 30 % haste, more chances to proc) will let me gain some mana while doing so.

Yes, it is a limited use weapon.
Yes, there are/will be very few clerics that have them
Yes, I would like to be one, because every little bit of an edge can help out

Haste has nothing to do with procs per minute. It has been proven time and time again that it is a set interval averaging 2 per minute in the main hand and 1 per minute in the offhand. There are some exceptions to this rule like the cleric summoned hammer and Bloodfenzy to name a few. You can get more information on proc rates in this thread.

Haste does not add more chances to proc, this is correct but if you read the description for the higher level Yaulp spells, the spell itself add more chances to proc.

You're correct in the fact that it will not effect the proc rate directly, however with more swings per minute, you indirectly increase the chance of proccing by adding more swings.

Granted this won't proc more than twice per minute (on average) in the main-hand, but more swings means more chances to reach that average.

First of all I'm a 63 Dwarf Cleric with fair gear....

We Killed Lord Y last night and it droped...

I was raid buffed at 4500hps with fair gear. the decrease of 67hps isn't anything at this point when mobs in PoP are hitting for 500 a swing.. If you are at 70hps you should accept you are on Low HP agro and you will be dead soon... RIP

Sorry to "flame" or whatever, but the stats you gave arent even half as good as the stats on this weapon. 20ac on a weapon is godly.
Too bad :(
# Sep 16 2002 at 9:37 AM Rating: Default
Too bad the proc is random. Could you imagine having this item and castin yaulp 5. Talk about mana regen! If this item was a trigger click that would be really GREAT, however, I'd still not have it equiped, but use it to regen mana...Too bad its a random effect which could mean disaster :(

Aggro management?
# Oct 28 2001 at 9:00 PM Rating: Good
Hmm. Just to think about this weapon another way, Remember that when you are sitting down (including meditating), you are considered level 1 by mobs for purposes of aggro. This means larger aggro range, and less taunt needed to aggro on to you, i have seen many situations where the tanks are beating up a mob, and one of the casters backs off and meds, only to have said mob immediately rush over and start attacking him. As for the Effect, remember you don't have to hit to Proc, only swing, and missing repeatedly (like any caster in melee combat would do at this level), doesn't generate that much aggro. So if the proc rate of this weapon were even around 1 in 20 swings... It might provide a semi-viable alternative to medding in combat. Just a thought...
Random
# Oct 14 2001 at 8:24 PM Rating: Default
Thought it might be somewhat good, then I read "Random", mob turns on you for a little while cause you did a complete heal instead of cel. Beaten down to 70hp before tank taunts it off, then this goes off, cyu. Plus it goes off when you don't need it, pretty much sucks. Better if it were triggered.
RE: Random
# Jan 10 2002 at 7:50 PM Rating: Default
Uhhh why would a cleric be meleeing 1st of all. 2nd of all, when you have 70hp left, you sure as hell better have autoattack off, so that shouldn't even be an issue
RE: Random
# Oct 22 2003 at 5:50 PM Rating: Decent
Heh, Come to Morrell Thule some time and i'll show you how clerics can melee.
Check out the lvl 56, 58, 60 etc spells called Hammer of (Divinity, and so on)
something like 14 dmg, 18 dly, and it procs 100ish DD about every 2-4 swings. With Yaulp 5-6, Clerics can do some Considerable Damage.
In fact, i can EASILY solo my way around Seb and a few other mid to high lvl zones by tanking as a cleric and using quick stuns. Wait till you say "OMG! Why are you meleeing?!" To a cleric with that White, Square looking hammer in their hand, then look at the battle spam and see proc, after proc, after proc, probably faster than you're swinging in the first place.
I've even seen very high end clerics Tanking in teir one PoP zones for Experience groups such as PoD CY areas.

hehe who cares what it would sell for, you'd never find anyone selling probably and its nodrop

and if you even high enough to be invited to go raid the guy this drops off of you cant be twinked cause everything the best twink would have MIGHT be what someone this lvl would have(e.g. person might have planer) and at this lvl if you melee you get killed in about 1(maybe 2 cant say i've tried with a uber cleric) rounds of melee, if dragon didnt go after you you'd almost never hit it anyways also hehe

it's junky compared to the epic, considering the random trigger. this would be the time when i say "why they gotta go rip clerics off like that?" but if you look at overall cleric drops compared to other class' drops, i would say clerics got the good life already.
i reached 200 wis before any shaman/dru i knew that was my level, etc. the only thing that counterbalances the fact of crazy cleric drops is the fact that my gem bag is empty, oh nogotta get a port to kala and buy some peridots/jaspers.

Grow a brain. No one else can use this item because of its damage ratio. Do you think Clerics could really take a Fiery Defender or something of that nature (even if they could use it) and actually be uber melee with it? No. Clerics could take any damage ratio you want and still not be uber. Give this items to a paladin and they will tear up with it. Thats exactly why its cleric only. Also, clerics have no real form of mana regeneration. All other classes do (including mages, its called a mod rod. Sure, may not seem uber to you at first but if ya summon it when ya first log on later on it'll make a big difference).

With that being said you could give us clerics some awsome damage stats and we still wouldnt melee or be effective melee. Sure, we'd be better with melee but never EVER could we match an actual melee class or class made to use a weapon. It just wont happen.

This item is perfectly balanced.. and asfor farming and whatnot, go farm a 60ish mob.. yeah, i'd like to see it.

In any case the weapon also PROCS. Its not a right clickable effect. It is NOT a manastone. A cleric has to stand up and melee to get the effect to proc. Theres a good chance the item wont proc and they'd have wasted mana which they coulda got meditating. It aint gunna make a very big difference. The only time I see people using this is when they are OUT of mana and making a desperate head rush for extra damage/an extra heal. Kinda a last ditch effort.

In any case, the items nice for Clerics but the damage stats are balanced for a cleric. Get over it.

WHY ? ? ?

Why do you cometo eq related webstes ....
Why do you play EQ....
I just dont understand WHY......

you obviously hate this game and it creators/maintainers, you have no respect for people that have spent 1000's of man hours working, consulting and play testing all aspects of this game, you sit and gripe about all the NERFS and even go as far as insult people you have not even met or spoken with (ie you dont know any of them)

In a very "6 year old" fasion you compare them to a 7 year old (I btw have a greater then small knowledge of EQ and I am very happy i dont have to make these decisions)

and as far as the other two classes complaining about cleric stuff being to powerful i have to note that the only post i have seen for quite some time are from or about CLERICS and they are all complaining about something (mostly the toneing done of some items that never should have been what they were in the first place ie: the breast plate of no cast cost infinate CH at will wtf i as an enchanter think that is just fine for the clerics but i want an item that will let me cast C2 at any level on anyone for no mana whenever i want too ok ....and since druids are always casting sow on others they need an item that will allow them to cast and recast sow at will on anyone for no mana cost ok ..... can we come with with other ideas of silly items ??

and to get back to your gripe about the whining necros ....i am a chanter at 41 and my group consists of me a cleric(45) and a necro(36) and i am always the last one fm...i tell you it is kinda ebarassing to be the "crack hook up" and always be out of mana .....

but this is not about me ...this is about you ..and that is the biggest problem ...it seems that you dont understand .,..we all pay to play and we all have chartures and we all at the will of verant in this

I know the people at varent are not perfect, i know that they just like me make mistakes (i got a problem with the enchanter research) and i know that they sometimes jump the gun on things as well as take there sweet time with other things and most of all i know that they are people who get up and go to their job (think for a minute do you have one? should you? do you get all excited about going there?) and work (yes work) so that they might be able to eat and you know support themselvs and maybe thir families. Now lucky for us this job of theirs involves the maintence and betterment of the game EverQuest (not always better but they try) a task by the way that the shear magitude of alone would leave thee average player stunned, spinning and loading please wait.....I work in the network industry and in customer service as well (i route calls for resevations) i work with and around several servers and an AS400 (1gig RAM and 1.8 terabyte HD) lost ya already on the terabytes i bet ....so give over on verant and face these FACTS

1)YOU DO NOT KNOW THEIR JOB ANY BETTER THEN THEY DO IN FACT THEY DO INDEED KNOW IT BETTER THEN YOU

2)IN REALITY IT IS NOT THE NECROS OR THE CLERICS OR THE MAGES THAT WHINE IT IS THE PEOPLE WHO WHINE THAT CHOSE TO PLAY THOSE CLASSES AND ARE WHINNING NOW AND ALWAYS WILL NO MATTER WHAT THEY PLAY

3)SOMETIMES SOMETHING TOO GOOD TO BE TRUE WILL COME ALONG AND BECAUSE IT IS TOO GOOD IT WILL BE FIXED TO BETTER THE GAMEING EXPERIENCE

4)AS SAD IT IS MOST OF THE BIGGEST COMPLAINT COME FROM PEOPLE WHO CANT READ AND JUST WANT TO COMPLAIN

5)THERE ARE A LOT OF PEOPLE THAT WILL COMPLAIN ABOUT STUPID STUFF AND EVEN A BUNCH THAT WILL COMPLAIN ABOUT POSSIBLE FUTURE THINGS THAT ONLY THEY KNOW OF

Well i doubt this post will make it but hey it is my 2cp worth like it or lump it

This isn't unlimited mana, its a proc on the weapon and therefore the cleric will have to be meleeing to get Cannabalize II to work. "Type:Random" = proc which of course is unpredictable and meleeing is required.

Um, it's a proc, not a right clickable effect. So unless the cleric melees,it's not going to go off. It's more efficient to sit and med than to actually attempt melee, and pray it procs enough times to make a difference.

*gasp* and mages =) S'ok, Canna2 will
never ever be used on this weapon. The only
way I could see this proc being useful would be to /d a caster when you need it, oh, and then you and the caster will be standing instead of medding. Oh, and you better get a dex buff (cosing 150+ mana) from your shaman first. Blah, this is truly a worthless proc. Neat (which I comment VI on), but wholly worthless.

Um...the cleric epic is the most useful epic there is. You can recover from an almost compleat whipeout to full raiding capacity faster than ever before. As for cleric equipment, don't you guys useually have 900+ AC? Sheesh, that's way better than an enchanter, who gets beaten on ten times as much, can ever hope for.

This item is godly, and will redifine how you play your cleric. So is the epic. I'm sure the cleric who gets this will have their epic as well.

Ok, paladinX>

Do me a favor, research your information before you post anything. This weapon ratio is 1.529. Go click on the 1H Slash weapon category in WEapons. This is what you will see. The top 8 1H slash weapons are ALL useable by paladins. The WORST one of them, Sword of Blessings; is a 19/27; thats a ratio 1.421, which lat time I checked was BETTER than a 1.529.

In case you're interested; The best weapons we can use have MUCH better ratio than this
Darkmetal Falchion: 23/29, +7 wis/int: 1.26 ratio
Dragonclaw shard: 24/30: 1.25 ratio
Massive Dragon shard; 24/30 with procs; 1.25

These blades are SO awesome; I don't even know where you got the concept that we didn't have any weapons with ratio better than this.

Everyone is whining about how much damage this does, well, as a cleric I want this weapon for the AC and the resists, the wis and mana, not the damage. I'll never use the damage on it unless I am killing greens on some raid to help lower level guildies.

It's not like there is going to be an issue of clerics all the sudden out-meleeing any of the tanks, or even bards.
Uhmm, WTF?!
# Jan 19 2001 at 9:00 PM Rating: Default
OK, WTF do clerics now have at LEAST 2 weapons with better, in this case MUCH better, damage delay ratios than any a bard has? A cleric should almost NEVER melee, whereas a bard is in melee a significant amount of the time. Uhmm.... =P
RE: Uhmm, WTF?!
# Jan 19 2001 at 9:15 PM Rating: Default
In big raids, don't you just sing mana song and resists? I don't think I've ever seen a bard melee on VZ, even in pvp, but about 2x. Plus, clerics don't exactly melee much, well, unless they want to get the group; although about 2 other weapons can change how a cleric plays by going into melee (theurgist and dawnfire).

Could someone explain to me why is it that so many cleric weapons are getting Shaman only spells as effects?

Besides guys, it's not just about what a class is 'best' at. This is a role-playing game and one should be able to play thier character as they wish. And accept the consequences too.

Cleric or Chanter wants to mix it up in a melee, well let them. They get hit hard enough they might rethink that, but it is THIER character after all......

Shamans are as weak at tanking as Clerics (save Clerics can take damage better), yet you always see them standing and trying to hit when OOM. IMHO, POS Shamans should sit down so they can buff when needed. That's what you are there for.

As far being hard to get. Well I would say this is easier to get than epic. All you have to do is kill one dragon to get this if it drops might have to kill it a couple times at most. But the epic quest takes weeks to camp mobs and then you have to kill several high level mobs.

To the Shaman that was worried about us having Can II. First off.. yes I understand that the quest for Can II was hard. But would you say that defeating Lord Yelinik wasn't hard? And did you see what lvl is most likley needed to obtain that nifty little weapon? 60!

I don't think that Shamans should worry about us Clerics having Can II especially if this is indeed a Proc. I'm almost lvl 47th and I hardly melee at all. Heck I just got to 101 skill at 1hb a few days ago. And if Random was just put there cuz they didnt' know if it was triggerd or not then yes that makes it a lot better, but again... your most likely lvl 60th to have this or there abouts. and I'm sure VI put a lvl limit on the effect.

This isn't a flame by any means.. just saying I don't think Shamans should worry bout this item too much.

# Mar 11 2001 at 6:08 PM Rating: Default
If this is a proc it is useless to a cleric. Simple as that.

For those that don't know: Cannibalize 2 uses 75 hp to grant 37 mana. At level 41, my shaman gets 18 mana for every tick I med. Do the math. If the cleric has to fight to make this thing proc and miss 2 med ticks (which can be as little as just over 6 seconds) the cleric is not better off than meditating. He/she is even down 75 hps.

Cannibalization is only useful if it can be done when the shaman needs it. Ie. inbetween the med ticks.

If it is a proc, all it is for is to offset the lost mana if the cleric decides it is a good idea to fight. Even then, they can't let it proc forever, it is killing them.

At 60th, you basically stop hunting for exp and start going on epic raids against Trakannon, Innoruuk, Cazic-Thule, etc... And the resists help a bunch against their spells and AE effects (but they do diddly when Innoruuk says "YOU!"

I use mine when I'm doing low key stuff like PoG... the ac is nice, I can reach 1100+ as a cleric without any major difficulties while wielding this. Its not really good at events, since I think all three we've gotten have gone to clerics that have the FAs (shrug, almost all our clerics have the FAs so can't be really helped).

Too bad the stupid cannibalize is a proc, otherwise I'd love it. Now its just something to make me enjoy my ac and have something that most of the other clerics don't have (everyone in the high end scene can get the FA, thats childsplay)
Keep this in mind...

If a weapon has a proc effect, or if you have a spell active on you that gives a proc effect (i.e.: Vampiric Embrace, Call of Sky), you don't have to actually *hit* your target for the proc to go off. So as far as the proc goes, you could have a skill of 0 with 1hb, and as long as you're swinging it (at a delay of 26, too, which is reasonably fast), it can proc the effect. That means that during downtime, clerics could probably have the primary tank duel them, just so they could swing away and get the effect. However, you would probably have to get this thing to proc a LOT to make it as worthwhile as sitting on your butt meditating. This proc effect is about as weird as having a dagger proc Summon: Bandages during combat: the proc isn't a combat effect, so having it activate *only* during melee is pretty awkward.
Don't duel the main tank!

Warning: Do NOT duel the main tank! You will not be able to heal, or cast any helpful spells on him/her!

Hopefully, 'Random' was just left as the default because Allakhazam did not know if it was triggered or not. At the level required to get it, melee is not an option for clerics, so they will have to be happy with the beyond awesome stats :) (assuming it actually is random)
