Yeah but if you mean this...

they're NOT stackable. Which makes it a problem if you need a 100 for a nice long grind session. The javelin, even though its materials cost is over 5pp, since it's stackable to 100, is your best option for a non-archery long-range pulling item.

very good rang..not too bad dmg dly for a throwing weapon..just the WT is a lil high and they dont stack

The range on this spear is incredible for a monk, and for certain pulls, I would gladly have a couple of these to save myself a beating (or death). 5pp or 1/4 of a blue bubble lost? (after a 56 rez) Easy choice.

But you don't have to be human to make whittled fishbone darts. And even regular fishbone darts are almost as good on range.

And lets not forget the little nasty rogue =). Oops I did a Death Blow with an 8 damage weapon. I don't feel like calculating the damage, but my level 21 rogue does a 32 damage death blow with a skill of 20 in throwing and a summoned throwing dagger. I could only imagine this as a long range backstab =).
