Spawn times
# Mar 17 2003 at 5:22 AM Rating: Decent
Well, i had the joy of being 4th in line for SF camp. and here are the exact spawn times from time of death to respawn:
28:44, 29:15, 32:22, + 36:15

Maybe from Server reset it's possible 19 hours, but from my experience and most everyone else on 7th hammer he's a 26-38 hours spawn. no one has seen him pop at 19 hours, and we maintain a pretty solid list, and it's respected by most. Most being operative. After Server reset whoever was on camp gets to keep it. Again, the 19 hour spawn time seems to be bogus. If anyone since LoY release has seen him pop at 19 hours, post here. Thanks
Rabid Cougar?
# Mar 03 2003 at 11:07 AM Rating: Decent
When handing my map pieces into the Lost Pirate, a rabid cougar spawned and started attacking the Lost Pirate. I had never read anything about this so I was not expecting to see him. He attacked the Lost Pirate and killed him almost instantly. Even though he killed the pirate I still had my combined maps and was able to turn in the last piece for the eyepatch.

Lvl 34 Driud - fighting cougars one morning (6:30 am Central time)Stormfeather popped and I was the only one in the zone. Pulled him to the rocks and kited him.

Lvl 35 - Was lucky enough to be in the zone when Lodizal was killed and the people did not need the map piece.

Lvl 36 - Guild mate helped me with the Tizmaks and the turn in

Lvl 36 - Ported to Iceclad after the last turn in. Pulled up track and Dire wolf was right behind the portal. Thank god for C3 or I would have never killed this one.

Lvl 36 - Turned in map pieces and got killed by Rabid cougar - After retrieving my corpse and seeing that I had the correct piece I was not concerned about the death. Turned in last piece and recieved the eyepatch.

Ok... finaly got this I love this item! But... was the WORST camp of my life. Camped him for 72 hours straight while on Christmas break from college. NO SPAWN. They reset the server several times. Finaly after three days I slept for one hour, while I was asleep the ******* spawnd and beat me to death while afk. So I gave up. I logged on two days later just for the hell of it and BAM he was on me. I beat that chicken like a red-headed step child. Was great!
The rest of the quest was easy.

Bottomline is: 19 hours or 30-33 hours. Those are the choices.

So, lets say 19 hours goes by. At the end of the 19 hours it could skip or it could spawn. If it skips I've never witnessed it taking 30-33 from the skip time. It usually always spawns after another 19.

BUT, at the end of 19 hours it could be actually on the 30-33 hour cycle, and spawn after 11 more hours. Essentially, if you've sat there for 19 hours and it hasn't popped, it will either pop at the 30-33rd hour or the 38th hour.

I've watched this for 2 weeks, 6 consecutive kills. I've sat there with an alt feigned taking logs and checking in on when the spawns were supposed to occur.

The cougar roamer spawn point, also, has nothing to do with SFs spawn timer, though SF basically spawns there. The roamers pop every 8ish minutes and when SF is supposed to spawn a roamer doesn't pop. SF does not poof, and I don't believe any roamer cougars pop when SF is up.

Anyway, a lot of this other info in the thread is useless. "It took me X hours" is useless, unless you know for sure, and share, that it was the first spawn after patch and/or that you know the previous spawn time. In the two weeks, I've only seen 2 people actually sit and camp it right at the spawn point for more than 10 hours. Most people log in, look around and leave after 10 mins.

By following it for 2 weeks the pattern is obvious, there aren't that many variables.

Also, I'd like to add, that this spawn should be respected as a camp and never considered FFA. IF someone is sitting there, GO AWAY. Not everyone has the same burst DPS, instaclick nukes like the burns and harm touches put other classes out of the reach of it. Respect that someone was there before you.

Frotty you are spot on here I think.

I have not been camping him that long, but I know for me he skipped the 19 hour spawn and then popped after 30 hours 22 minutes.

Just before we took him down someone who was also camping him said "I'm off to play an alt, he's not due for 6-7 hours."

So basically, 19 hours or 32 hours (+/- 2 hours) is correct.

Good luck all you Stormfeather campers :)

Well,

I've now not played in any group for 4 days. I killed Lodizal on Drinal Server (finally dangit) on monday morning 2/10 at 425am, looted map 4. Good now 3 down 1 to go, Stupid cleric in my group, sorry hun, I love ya but im pissed atm, asked me " can you show me loc of stormfeather pop?" Me being the kind generous Ranger that I am (not anymore) I say " sure follow me ".

Explaining on the way to her that hes a difficult 19hr spawn w possibility to skip a spawn, lead her to camp spot, no more then 15min after lodizal kill, I camped him << over 10hrs, guess whos up flapping his damn wings all over????

/hail Stormfeather she says and atking him, I kill it and she WHOOOOSH ninja loots both map and tallon and I'm shocked pissed and bewildered all in 1min time. Then she asked me if I want the tallon.....? Want the tallon?? I'm 57, FU im thinking as I disband and Log out. 3 of us killed lodizal 60 shaman, me and he invited a 61 cleric that didnt need to be there, he got shield and club, and gave her ring, I got jack, and she ninja loots my last piece and I want the tallon???? GRRR, well 45+ hrs invested later and one KS and one skip later im still here.

YOU SUCK VERANT, I am married have 2 screaming kids, and I am expected to sit here 38hrs for a damn bird. And be polite when I get ks'd FU u suck. Die in flames VI, Sony and the whole lot of u. If I dont get this mask finished in next 2 days, guess what......Gonna be an entire 57 ranger 51 druid 4+ 30+ alts all twinked about 800k-1million PP items deleted or dropped and killed all over your frewking game surface. BAD JOKE programmers 38hrs pop, WTF is that crap..

DAmn bird, I'm gonna pop sooo many damn arrows in him he'll bleed for days after the kill!!!!!!

Frustrated beyond belief 57th should be 60 by now Ranger of Drinal /scowl and attack

Got it today, Feb. 02 2003. I had been stuck on the Stormfeather part. I had been factioning in Kael and on my way back to civilization i decided to zone into Iceclad just on the off chance he was up. I ran from EW zone to the camp and no luck. Since there was no one in the zone and i couldn't track, I logged my 56 druid on for a quick check of the Lodizal and stormfeather spawns just in case they wandered. I was running from the druid ring and as I passed the pirate camp i noticed Stormfeather on track. I closed track. OMG WTF did that say Stormfeather? I did a doubletake and quickly pulled up track again. there he was, popped in the camp. This is when i got nervous: I was on the wrong character, and there were now 4 peeps in the zone. I quickly logged my warrior, and to my delight, the first text i saw was "Stormfeather kicks YOU for 17 points of damage." I made short work of him and looted my last piece. The only hard part after that was the turn in. It is physically impossible for an ogre to fit in an igloo. Anyway, the only advice i can suggest is this: don't put yourself through a long wait (usually a dissappointment too) by camping him for hours on end. The GM put it best when he said "It's not a camp, it's a spawn you happen upon." I just happened upon him, just by chance, and it wasn't the least bit aggrevating. Just log on early in the morning (I did it at 8 AM EST) when no ones on, check the spawn for maybe 20 minutes, then go hunt or whatever. You will save yourself a lot of aggrevation and time, and hey, you might get lucky like me. Good luck to all who attempt this quest. Its a great item, but not worth putting yourself through hell.

Finally, finally
# Feb 01 2003 at 10:21 PM Rating: Decent

Well, I finally got mine at level 51. I love it. Ok, that's enough of that, here's my rundown:

Bloodmaw map piece - too easy to even discuss.
Dire wolf stalker - almost the same; grab a druid, have them snare/fear the dire wolves, and track the stalker.
Lodizal map piece - got lucky...a guildie on a pickup raid won the roll for the map piece and held onto the corpse while I ran in from Thurgadin.
Stormfeather - ok, this camp is insane. After talking to a GM, I had a few answers:

a) Stormfeather is on an approximately 19hr timer, confirmed.
b) Stormfeather is purposely coded to skip his spawns. They never meant for the mob to be camped, but rather for you to "happen to wander by" and find him. Form your own opinions.
c) When he does spawn, he sticks close to his 19hr mark. The zones were all repopped Friday at 5am CDT. So, at approximately midnight Saturday AM, he should have popped. He skipped. Now, if he skipped at midnight, he should pop at 7pm Saturday. He did, almost on the nose!

That's what I got for you, that is the hell that I went through (the final camp I did for Stormfeather was 38hrs). Guild loves me though, especially after 13 cougar claw earrings!

The Worth of This Item
# Jan 28 2003 at 4:20 PM Rating: Good
Some people that have posted here are obviously frustrated about the time that is required camping the Stormfeather spawn. Listen to me now. This patch is still one of the best masks in the game for melees bar none, especially with the resists. I play on a PVP server and while I was KS'd on my first Stormfeather spawn, the fact remained that I wanted the patch and was resolved to get it. I timed the spawn from the time I was KS'd and killed and ran a chart with the times he would likely spawn. I woke up in the mornings normally, took son to school, did the work bit, played with son after school , and cooked dinner every nite all the while loggin on around that stuff knowing that since I was keepin track of the times I had a window and he would spawn again sooner or later. On a PVP server it's the hardest because at anytime you could be killed and camp can be taken. This added to the reasoning for gettin this item even more. I got the map piece off Stormfeather approx. a week and a half into startin the camp. My chart of times he shoulda, coulda and woulda spawned but he didn't sitting beside my puter. I have had this patch now for about a year I think and wouldn't trade it for anything in Norrath. If Stormy spawned on a regular basis everyone and their brother would be running around with the eyepatch and then it wouldn't have such a prestige to it. Grats to the peeps that got theirs and if you want one, don't act as if it's destroying your life tryin to get it. Suck it up and play smart. It's very doable.

You know, Stormfeather wouldn't be so bad if they put him on a regular timer. That way, at least all the hordes of melees could establish a queue like the clerics do for their epic turn-in. There are many more melees (combined rogues, monks, warriors, paladins, rangers, shadowknights, bards, and beastlords) than there are clerics, and I can't see that this item is so much more valuable than a cleric clicker that it has to be so hard. I would like to see Sony revamp this spawn so that the incredible backlog and KSing and nastiness can be reduced.

They've turned EQ players into mindless drones! To think that people might actually sit around and wait for this guy to spawn is just out of the question. The whole camp concept should be thrown out the window, it's just another marketing ploy (really, it is). If everyone has to wait forever just to get one single item, then they will have to spend more months, spend more money, always looking for the next biggest, next best thing. I just find it completely illogical that anyone would ever put such effort into a single item like this, and I play a lot of games, myself (I only half-way quit EQ). Besides, there's 10 billion other better things out there that you could be working toward much more successfully. Why all this for a 20% haste click? Wouldn't leveling up be more worth it? And after that, AA?... Just my two cents (and don't touch my two cents either, they're on fire right now from all the flames).

Wow, "Well worth a 19 hour wait" i am simply amazed that any item in EQ would be considered well worth 19 hours of your life. i am more than enthusiastic about video games(especially EQ) but all a 19 hour wait is to me is a severe disappointment when I realize that between work, college and other RL responsibilities I have no time to spend on this and many other "Uber" quests and items. So I guess i will just suffer being average or maybe spend $1,000 on E-bay and buy plat to get the items I want.

Ebayers eat it and die! There is nothing I hate more than some rich kid spending daddys money on ebay so he can strut around on some server talking about how uber h eis. Not saying you do this but it jus tmade me thin of how badly I hate ppl who buy chars and money. From that point on when you buy plat anything you achieve after that isn't the same cause who's to say you would have lvled to the point to do anything if you hadn/t bought plat or the char itself. Bah! Ebay this!

If you aren't going to actually lvl the char yourself or earn the plat then why do it at all? It's like old school when your buddy would brag about how he beat Altered Beast of the Sega but later you find out the little prick used the cheat code. There isn't any fun in cheating lol. Remember Turok for 64? It rocke duntil you got the all weapons/infinite ammo cheat lol. Then the game blew.

Easy come, easy go I guess. And good riddance!

I can guarantee 100% that Captain Nalot's Quickening is Spell Haste.

It will be over written by Enchanters and Shaman haste spells.

The stalker spawns near the port in to IC...as soon as you land via port in, just start killing wolves till you get the stalker...
the quest does not require you to be 50+
A mid lvl 30's char could do it easily...Lodi is killed so often and his map never used that you could easily just loot it, SF is a mid 30's spawn, an the stalker and tizmaks are easy...mid 30's quest at the most

The quest description on this site says that the dire wolf stalker is spawned after killing the direwolves near the shadow temple, is the shadow temple the tower of frozen shadows? I went there with a tracker friend to help out but there were no wolves near Tofs but there was a bunch near a large block with a skull on the top that is found behind the dragon circle, i thought maybe this was it but after killing wolves for awhile there the wolf stalker did not spawn. If anyone has the loc of where he spawns I would greatly appreciate it.

level 5

Someone KS'd a camper after me and allowed a level 5 monk to loot. a few days later I saw the monk (now lvl 25) and asked him about it he stated that it worked as soon as he got it at level 5.

Correct Spawn time
# Oct 16 2002 at 11:12 AM Rating: Decent
I should have posted this back in June when I figured it out but guilds were farming Lodizal to sell the drops. I thought that sucked so I wasn't going to help them out.
From my own experience I can tell you for a CERTAINTY that Lodizal's spawn time is now 11-14 hours. I have seen him spawn at exactly 11 hours and exactly at 14 hours (when I got my last map piece). I have also seen him spawn in between 11&14 hours. A fairly recent patch (6/5/02, I think) changed the spawn times on a lot of creatures. Lodizal (and Stormfeather, see below) were 2 of them.

The above information is absolutly certain. The following I'm just pretty sure of: Lodizal and Stormfeather are somehow linked. Either one or the other will pop, or maybe both, or neither (A binary roll of the dice). And the neither option may not apply because in the short time that I figured this out and I got him either Lod or SF popped at the correct time. Spawn times are the same for both. I camped Stormfeather before the 'spawn time change' patch and went through the old '18-19 hour skips-a-lot' spawns.

Check the posts since 6/5/02 and my information fits right in.

Good Hunting :)

At about 8PM EST Saturday October 5th the Camp for Stormfeather was on. He popped 23 hours later at 7PM EST Sunday October 6th and was dead with in about 30 seconds. 1 down 3 to go.

Lodi was found near the Dragon Ring in Ice Clad about 15 min later and a force was already moveing in to take him down.. asked about the map piece and they were more than glad to let it go for a little extra assitance with the huge brute.
2 down 2 to go.

The Dire Wolf Stalker popped about 10 min later after a few wolves were slaughtered. He too was slaughted by a 55 and 50 Monk. 3 down 1 to go.

Off to the Tizmaks. Well Ring War had just started so after joining in the fun for a couple of hours the Great Divide was once again safe and the Tizmaks started to spawn again. 4 Yakman Meats later it was off to Bloodmaw. Got a druid that I found soloing Tizmaks to help by charming Bloodmaw and the four meats where turned in no problem. The gnome coughed up the last map piece and it was back to Ice Clad for the reward.

Ok so it took a 23 hour camp before Stormfeather popped, but all in all I would say that completeing the whole quest in 6 hours from the time Stormfeather popped is pretty amazing.

This quest is a HUGE timesink and all because of one stupid little bird ! Stormfeather needs to be changed, no two ways about it. I would suggest making the patch rec level of 51, changing the bird into a 60 group mob and putting him on a decent cycle. Too many people want this and it's all that birds fault !

Hell yes! Stormfeather down. 48hours after his last sighting. 31hours was my time sitting waiting. After a bit of staring and zoning out, I had to force myself to get up and start cleaning up the things around the house while I waited. I remember someone posting on hearing his wings when they logged on. I took the precaution of turning my speakers up a bit. Even though I was in the next room I could hear him flapping away. Without a doubt knowing it was him, I ran back into the room with my comp and sit down just in time to see SF calmly stroll by. Not sure how many times I had to hit attack before I started to hit him. He drops no pp loot. Hits for about 70max that I recall. He spawns at the 3 gnomes and roams at a North-West direction up the hill. There is No PH, no hidden trick to make him spawn, and from my calculations the 19hour spawn and skips spawns does not hold true to my camping experience. SF was killed at 6pm Sunday Sept. 29th I killed SF 6pm Oct. 1st and as you can see as I posted above, thats 48hours. By any means may luck be your guide in this quest. Congrats to all that succeed.
