in zones with very bad pathing, (such as bloodfields,)using this thing can cause mobs to warp into places they would normally not be in.

this can result in 2 things.. 1: mob stays where it warped to or 2: it will bring a train to you.
i love it,but i am careful with where i use it.
Soloing wizard

This has to be one of the best items in game for wizards. If your running lom and spell harvest is up just click mob takes off the other way cast and wait for stun to wear off if you don't have the Stun AA's. I have counted outloud each time i have clicked this and when it lands I have counted around 10 seconds on each mob from lvl 1-65.

For all you soloing wizards out there mana robe, staff of temper flux, epic, snare dagger, root ring, tash orb and this item. I don't see any reason why you would die

With 30 second rule though and your epic 1.0 get summon run away blind nuke like crazy and get epic clicked. These items in my opinion are the most important in game to wizards that solo.

This is just my 2 cents worth playing around with ideas on how to be self dependant.

I've used this (as a 70 Monk) to split red con mobs in the Hive, eg Lost Gnomes (Hard) that are not Lullable...

Blinded mobs won't immediately path home, nor will they go right for you unless you are very close to them. Essentially, if there's a 2+ spawn, if you blind one it will run in a (semi) random direction while the other(s) go straight for you. If you flop (FD) while the mob is still blinded, it will path back differently from its' non-blinded companions -- quite often, it will stand around for a while before deciding to go home at all -- which is often enough time to let the others reset, and tag the formerly blinded mob to take it to the group as a single.

This is also the quickest and easiest way I know of for a monk to split the 3-spawn rooms in MPG.

Great item on rallos zek. Blind players then just go to chopping them down. Especially at low levels. A must have hehe.
magicians?
# Jun 09 2004 at 1:18 AM Rating: Decent
I saw this and was wondering how useful it would be for a magician, but I don't want to spend all of that money for something I wouldn't end up using. I'm thinking I could just blind a mob, and then let him run while my pet beats him to death. If I am using the earth pet, which roots, will the mob keep trying to run, or will it stop and start to fight my pet because it can't go anywhere?

Was blinding Valorian Guardians (level 62) in HoH basement (NW) last night just fine. Kinda ticked off my ranger and druid buddies when the guards started running all over the room and agroing the others. I just stuck a malosinia on all of them and kept them all blinded while they milled about the room. Wasn't efficient but was really fun. They told me to never do it again or they'd train me. ^_^

Echo on Sammi above. It amazes me that people think they know everything, but will never try something new. Guess what? Even if it doesn't work, you LEARN SOMETHING! Radical concept to some, I know. I am a level 66 druid, and i learn from lower level players all the time! I know, I must be really stupid, right? Think what you will, I LOVE LDoN's because you often get wierd combinations. Almost all will work fine if the team ADJUSTS... If they don't, it doesn't matter if you got a plate tank, cleric, and enchanter all working their tails off.... you still can fail even a normal LDoN. I hear it all the time.

God i hate people that get all upset if you try out something new.

The same people will tell you a BOT group NEEDS a cleric, slower and tank, or you'll horribly fail ;)

i just love unusual groups and unusual methods of killing :) would have loved to see that sight! (actually now looking for this orb to try out myself, hehe)

# Feb 29 2004 at 9:31 AM Rating: Decent
Ive used one when my BER got to level 8 (axe snare), and i must say its nice. I just axe snare mob then blind him, then throw axes till hes dead. My throwing skill went up pretty fast too i might add. Clickie from invertory at level 1. If the max level is 55 on mobs then it should last any monk/Ber for awhile.
Max Level
# Jul 04 2003 at 12:54 AM Rating: Default
What is the maximum level of a mob affected by Blinding Luminance?
I assume its somewhere in the 50s.
Could a level 65 wizard solo Cazel(lv51) in Oasis with it for example.
ie snare, right click bio, nuke, right click bio, nuke etc

RE: Max Level
# Aug 10 2004 at 8:11 PM Rating: Decent
I sometimes use the actual spell on 68+ in PoFire. So the spell doesnt seem to have a level limit. Cant speak for the item that clicks the effect.
RE: Max Level
# Aug 07 2003 at 10:54 AM Rating: Decent
It probably won't help a lot against a summoning mob, but you could try it.
RE: Max Level
# Jul 30 2003 at 12:36 AM Rating: Decent
I'm a 61 necro, and I do use this orb on mobs that aren't fearable. I use it at the bonewall in PoD and such, so I assume that it works just fine on lvl 55 mobs. Not sure how much higher than that would be affected by it. BTW: it works just fine with pets as long as you stay #1 on the hate list, and even so it won't start hitting the pet until the effect wears off.
#REDACTED, Posted: Jun 07 2003 at 3:05 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) Can someone specify the lowest level at which this item is clickable? I am a twink pker who abandoned levelled past 20 or so and would like to know if I can use this as my Necromancer at low levels. I just love blinding people. It is more satisfying than killing them quite often. My tank uses a Wrapped Entropy Serpent Spine, and it just gladdens my little heart when I see my victim stumble about randomly, unable to do much.

Blind effect
# Jan 04 2003 at 9:31 AM Rating: Default
From using a Wrapped Entropy Serpent Spine with my rogue and Blind with my beastlord i have figured out that blinded mobs will only run if the person who is highest on the hate list is out of melee range. Blinded mobs also don't hit anyone else but the person highest on the hate list. This could probably be used well in a group because once the mob is snared and blinded none will have to worry about gaining too much agro becuase once the main tank has agro anyone else who gains agro will just cause the mob to walk away. This could also be used by mages to pet kite much like a beastlord would...Beastlord tells bet to stop taunting, dots to gain agro and blinds...mob will run with pet beating on it.

with this effect and the fact that it can be cast from inventory, it wont just go to int casters. i was on a raid to kill him the other day, and two orbs droped. one went to me(ranger) and the other went to a monk. i am not to sure how the monk can use it. but i do see it as great for bow kiting. i havnt gotten a chance to try this out but from what i have seen and herd it should work well.

200 range and fast cast time. Used for pulling.
RE: effect
# Jul 18 2002 at 3:11 PM Rating: Default
Why would you use this for pulling a mob? It would agro them and they would wander off, it blinds them hehehe. :)
RE: effect
# Jul 19 2002 at 10:36 AM Rating: Excellent
---You use it for splitting a group. Let's say you have 2 big meanies. A standard pull method might always net you both of them, no matter how much you feign and move. If, however, you use the orb on one, it wanders aimlessly, and the other one runs straight to you. Now you pull the one you DIDN'T use the orb on to your raid and once your raid has it, you feign so the other one doesn't eventually find you and your raid. To be honest, this orb is probably better used in the hands of a monk who pulls than any other class. Remember, a Monk who pulls helps the ENTIRE RAID-- not just themselves. =)
RE: effect
# Sep 12 2002 at 7:14 PM Rating: Decent
Monks dont usually get this until they reach the end game. And the type of mobs you pull at raids then will reist the effect. But the range is hell of a lot better than shurikens and you can often single pull with it. Great for pulling ToV for example or when you pull Vindi, Statue and so on.
RE: effect
# Jan 30 2006 at 4:09 AM Rating: Decent
As stated elsewhere, this is resisted a lot less than you might think, and on mobs much higher in level than the above poster states -- it can be a way of splitting mobs over level 70 where even the highest level Monk Lull is ineffective.

# Jan 17 2002 at 11:56 AM Rating: Decent
I was wondering if, for instance a Rogue was using this solo, could he blind his target, then run around and BS them while this was in effect? Would be good to raise a Rogue's BS if they could. Anyone try this? I may try later this week.
RE: If you are meleeing...
# Jan 24 2002 at 1:01 PM Rating: Decent
Blind causes a mob to run around randomly when you back off from them, often following the path they would if they were feared. HOWEVER as soon as you step back into range they turn back on you and wail on you.

So no, you wouldn't be able to train backstab with this.
RE: If you are meleeing...
# Mar 22 2002 at 3:50 AM Rating: Default
if you blind them while out of melee range (i.e. hit'em with a bow and blind while they're running) they'll run as if feared, within melee range it's a minor atk debuff. Not sure if blinding and backing up would work though.

I have a lvl 51 shaman, and only recently actually realized I had this spell called blinding luminance, and thinking what does this spell do.., so I tried it in KC. Haha Bad idea, it ran off so with people meleeing it. So I had to cast immobilze quite hastely. But then when soloing I noticed sometimes it doesn't actually do anything. I was thinking seeing this item can go in inventory slot and you can use, whether my ranger would be able to use it to fearkite. Erm can anyone give me feedback?
RE: I am curious
# Jan 14 2002 at 5:20 PM Rating: Decent
Blinding Luminance is an upgrade from the Flash of Light line of spells. Shaman get it, and so do Paladins. It's kind of a poor man's fear. Basically it sends the mob running off along it's fear path unless you are in melee range. If you are in range of the monster it will just sit there and attack until you back off (I also think caster mobs will just sit there and cast on you). If you want to see what happens when you are blinded go fight the Reavers in CoM they proc: Blindness and it's really quite annoying. I mostly use BL for breaking outdoor spawns, and dueling. It's a real pain in the butt to be blinded in PVP.

RE: I am curious
# Feb 15 2002 at 9:54 PM Rating: Decent
Not going to swear by this but Im pretty sure its different then fear path. I play a shaman who has used this spell alot more than others as everyone thinks its useless. They may have changed what pathing they use but it used to be different back in the day when I used it. Now wont give up slot for this spell.

It also lowers a mobs chance of hitting you for max damage. I used it alot when I was 14-29 when I solo'd in dangerous spots or with mobs that the fight was often close. If it got too bad you can always just back up out of melee range and it will run away. All in all very useful spell when used in the correct situations.

From what I recall blind can be used to "fear" a mob provided you don't melee (although that seems to go against what you posted above in your experience). I know of necros who have used this item to "fear" unfearable wurms in skyfire but they had to do it with no pet, the minute something melees the wurm will stop and fight blind
works in inventory slot?

Someone was auctioning one of these and stated that it gives bonuses even when in a main inventory slot. Can anyone confirm this? If so I would get just for the resists and str. Blind is a nice bonus though 8)

Thanks

has anyone even put this on a low level to see if they can use it? many effects like this have a minimum level, and it seems to be similar to the level you'd need to be able to use the effect (like solist's icy wand / elder spiritist vambs, etc) so, it this is around a 30-40 lvl spell I'd expect you can't use the effect until you're at least that high
