# Feb 12 2003 at 7:25 PM Rating: Decent
Finally raised my faction and did turn in on 2/10/03. Turned in the hilt, sword, testimony, and letter to Brother Hayle.

HE THEN RETURNED EVERTHING TO ME SANS THE NOTE AND GAVE ME THE NOTE FOR SOULFIRE!!!!!

Turned around, gave him note, and he gave me Soulfire in return.

SO, I know have Soulfire, and still have 3 of the 4 pieces needed to do quest again when the CH charges are gone!!

This blade is sweet, simply for the CH. Basically like having 5 more LoH available to me!!!
#REDACTED, Posted: Feb 08 2003 at 9:11 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) I would like to know why VI would put charges on an epic weapon. This would be cool if the thing had no charges at all .

Endless INSTANT casting of CH? Wouldn't that make pallys just a bit overpowering? It would kinda put clerics out of a job.

I've got all the pieces, but not the faction to turn them in. One of these days, I may do one of the recommended "quests" to build the required faction, till then, I guess I'll just suffer with my Ardent Protector.... ;)

If you have all the pieces, you need Qeynos faction of warmly to do the turn in.

Faction to do the quest can be obtained in under 2 hours by giving two gold pieces to a cleric npc in Qeynos. Lashun Novashine I believe, if I remember correctly. Hail him, then give him two gold pieces at a time. Just keep doing the hail and gold, until he cons warmly. It all depends what your faction is at the time on how long it will take. It's boring, but very affective. As a side trip, you could kill Putrid Skeletons at the South Karana undead camp, just be careful if the Aegis of Ro quest npc's spawn.

Sincerely,
The Vinman

Did my turn in on monday! (2/10/03) Ended up spending about 1.5-2 hours whacking raiders. Got 30 sashes. Put me to Amiable with Priests of Life and the Pallies there in Qeynos.

On a side note, don't know if this is a bug or what, BUT:

When I did the turn in, brother Hayle RETURNED to me the hilt, sword, and testimony!!! AND gave me the note!!! SO, I gave him the note and in return got Soulfire!!! And I still have 3 of the 4 pieces to do the quest again!!

Nope, to "recharge" Soulfire you need to re-do the entire quest. That's not really that hard by the time one's your level, though.

Ok guys Soulfire it is not aquestion of weither the swords is as as any other it is a part of the Paladin epic a quest which is a part of the game if you want to do it then do the it. But Soulfire is not a good weapon do to the fact that there are better ones out there but should you be deligent in this quest your epic weapon will be the best you find until have gained high levels and go to the other planes where other better weapons are.I weild a ardent protector which is an awesome blade but i still seek to gain my epic weps( warrior epics) which do alnost as much dmg as this ardent protector in a 1hs or 2hs form not including their procs for 100 and 150 dd. So just make your minds on the quest for Fiery Avenger. It will pay off in the end.

I have a level 35 Paladin using the Throneblade of Ykesha. At my level it is 33/51 with a 10 or 11 point damage bonus. It also has +6 STR. Why would I UPGRADE to this weapon? Am I overlooking something. This is my first character and there are a lot of things I dont know yet.

RE: Why Soulfire?

Because you need Soulfire to do your epic sword, the fiery defender, that's why.

But yeah, that is the only reason to do it pretty much.

Got the Soulfire yesterday! Stats kinda suck but it worth the awsome look. Anyway camped my pally in Freeport near Lucan...Logged on a friends 60 Necro..and he soloed him in the room right next to where he was at..he went down fast. With help of Emmisary of Cazic-Thule that is..anyway both lucans went down fast and my friends necro walked away with 40% health..logged on my pally..looted testimony..got the brillant sword or whatever..ran over to Splitpaw and turned in all the stuff...At first it didnt seem that it worked because he said i will not hand over the soulfire untill you prove yourself or something..but then i check my inventory and had a note there that Bro Halye gave to me..so i turned it in back to him and he gave me the soulfire..Then I enjoyed my soulfire in the prison cell..but lucky a roamer came by and i attacked it and he was kind enough to open the gate for me..Anyway the complete heal is nice..Its like LoH. If anyone knows how to recharge this wep I would like to know thanks.

how to heal
# May 25 2002 at 12:42 PM Rating: Default
to use the complete heal charges, just select the target you want to heal and right click on the sword. :)
And for my take on this quest, it kicks azz. I got SoulFire at lvl 32 (yes i had a crapload 'o help)
We took Lucan down with about 10 people i think ... it was easy cuz we had a high lvl chanter to mezz Jentry so he couldnt heal Lucan. He went down pretty quickly.
Xicotl is underconned as hell (i thought he was a dark elf, and saw him as a TROLL and it surprized the hell out of me lol) But he spawns in a convienent place where there is not a lot of adds ... you only have to clear the room out once. But its always a good idea to have you rezz spell memmed and another rezzer with you in case YOU die (not the xp loss so much, but corpse runs in Castle Mistmoore are a pain in the azz)
And when you give the items to Brother Hayle, make sure you have a friend who will open the door for you when you are done.

I have seen lvl 54+ SKs take him out with only a healer/dotter (Druid/Shammy) to assist them. I wonder if it would be unpaladin-like to enlist
the aid of a few dark knights to take him down.
it's good practice for their epic *LOL* (which apparently involves slaughtering Qeynos Paladins)

RE: IS IT RECHARGABLE?
# Jan 20 2002 at 1:53 AM Rating: Excellent
I just thought I might add... I have heard many rumors that GM's can refill the charges on this. I HAVE NOT DONE IT MYSELF, SO DON'T BLAME ME IF THEY CAN'T/WON'T. One thing though... if they would, you would have been like a champ in the best of the best tournaments. Just thought I would tell ya.

Xiaro

p.s. Also... most people go about lucan the wrong way. You have a newby stand by the zone... and hail sir lucan untill the other guards walk away. The person that pulled him zones out then zones back in. If your group is KOS already... have them wait outside or somewhere out of range.

One little thought. Kill his brother first. It gets really annoying to almost kill someone with a lot of HP's and then their dumb #@$ brother heals them completely.

RE: IS IT RECHARGABLE?
# Mar 27 2002 at 10:58 AM Rating: Decent
I have to agree; as with most fights, either kill the healer or keep him stun/mezzed and out of healing range until you are done with Lucan.
RE: IS IT RECHARGABLE?
# Jan 19 2002 at 7:28 PM Rating: Excellent
As far as I've ever been able to find, it is NOT rechargable. I know there's at least one or two people on Innoruuk that have done the entire SF quest more than once just for the charges of healing. Once they're gone, they're gone.

Regarding how many people ~ it totally depends. I watched a guild group of about 15 people die horribly one day because when they pulled Sir Lucan, they got every single militia guard as well. I *think* that group was in their 40s but not totally sure. When I did my SF, I had a level 60 monk and a level 60 ranger help me and it was fine. Did need to use LH on the monk but otherwise everything went fine. Both of those level 60s were in the uber-guild on the server at the time and had literally the best gear available in the game... and they knew how to pull and get only Lucan and his pet cleric.

Good luck!
RE: IS IT RECHARGABLE?
# Mar 15 2002 at 4:40 PM Rating: Decent
Danaelle is correct, it is not rechargeable.

Pulling sir Lucan and his pet is not too insanely difficult. What you do is have someone with SOW (or a bard) pull lucan and run like heck to the zone. Then have someone (anyone) hail lucan until all of his friends go away. Apparently at least one guard is so fond of Lucazn he will not leave his side. [I've not witnessed this]

Once they are all gone, gang up on his and beat him senseless. Anyone who does not wish to lose faction should gate/evac/zone before Lucan dies.
He will respawn in an undead form (significantly weaker than his "human" form) a handful of Paladins and Clerics should have no trouble taking him down at which point you should be able to loot your sword and get out before a wandering guard discovers the bloody corpse.

I honestly like the stats on my Arbitor's greatsword better (30/43 +15wis +25mana) but this quest is a prequisite for higher level Paladin Swords. (or so I am led to beleive)

Sir Lucan shall die by my blade soon, I am anxious to get on with more cool flamming swords :)

Just wanted to be sure of all items to hand to brother hayle in paw.Is it just the three items to hand over hilt and 2 notes to say in short ?
RE: end of soulfire
# Mar 22 2002 at 8:51 PM Rating: Decent
You need 4 items to hand into BH in Paw. You need the note from HK 102 that you get from the banker. You also need the Testimony from the Coin quest that can be completed solo by level 10. You then need two drops, the hilt of Soulfire out of MM from the Troll SK and the testimony off of Lucan's undead corpse. You take Lucan's note to the Knight's of Truth in NFp and talk to the guild leader (he on the second floor outside). Once you ensure you are talking to the right person, you give him Lucan's note and he gives you the Brilliant Sword of Faith. You then take the sword, hilt, your testimony and the note from the banker in HK that you got from HK 102 to Paw. You give the note from HK to BH alone and he will give you another note back. You then hand him his note, your testimony, the hilt, and the Sword... Voila, Soulfire ;-)

Hello,

Just wanted to let you all know that this post is incorrect. I obtained Soulfire today (10/7/01) and it was Multied, not handed in all at once and the quest still worked fine. All I can think that went wrong with previous poster was:

A) was still invis at the time of handing in items (I'm not sure whether or not this has anything to do with NPC's accepting items, just a thought)

B) faction was not high enough with Temple of Life/Knights of Truth

C) this person handed in the letter from Ariska to Brother Hayle only once and not 2 times

No matter what happened, I'm just posting here to clarify that the Soulfire can still be MQ'd and if you intend to MQ this with a friend (or just an alt like I did), don't worry it will still work.
Can the charges be refilled?
# Sep 08 2001 at 6:35 PM Rating: Decent
I just got my soulfire a few days ago and it said 5 complete healing charges that are triggered. First of all: How is it triggered?
Secondly: Am I able to recharge the charges of healing on this sword?

Lastly I am only lvl 34 right now...how soon can I start doing things for my next epic weapon?
RE: Can the charges be refilled?
# Sep 28 2001 at 9:22 PM Rating: Decent
Hey little buddy, I too am a Dwarf Pally, on Quellious. I havn't played much latley, but here is my understanding of our Epic Stuff...
Okay, soulfire: check. Next step in the Paladin epic is Fiery Avenger, which requires a Ghoulbane, Mirigul's head, and his robe, unless they changed that, which I don't think they did.
Getting Mirigul to even spawn is hell enough, and sometimes suades Paladins from doing the epic at all. It takes real devotion. Get both the frozen book from Vox and the Burned book from Naggy (If I died and went to hell, it would be all the dragon raids I'd have to go on to get those.) After doing this, you need to talk to a neutral-faction chick in Qeynos (used to be a merchant DEEP in Neriak, under Darkelf merchant faction. Not cool for Paladins, glad they made the change.) you give her the books and 1000p, she gives the book of scale, you give THAT to the Oracle of OOT, he gives you a soul (Phylacraty, or something like that), which you need to give to the Lich of Mirigul, an undead caster who rarley spawns in the place of the injured polar bear in Everfrost, I think. This means mezzing him, so he's indiff or amiably or something. Give him the soul, and this will get the real Mirigul to spawn, the founder of Necromancy among the Erudites, not an easy cookie. I'd prolly use a group and a half at least of 49+. Then again, I"ve never done the quest, so I couldnt say for sure. Once he's dead, you've got the cloak and head. Get faction to warmly with Deepwater knights of Erudin, and pay Inte Akera a visit in the PoA (requires lvl 46, I'd wait till' 47 just in case you die...alot) Turn the SF in, you get a note. turn the GB in, get another note. Turn notes in, with cloak and head, get Fiery Avenger. Of course, the real deal is alot more complex and interesting than the way I explained.
then Fiery Defender, alot more stuff in Freeport, Erudin, Felwithe, kaladim, Plane of Hate, Plane of Fear, Nek woods, the Hole, man it's tough.

Anyways, to answer your other questions, I don't think the Soulfire is rechargable, and to trigger the effect, target either yourself or a group mate and right click the soulfire to get a Mana-free, really quick, full heal. I've had to use 2 charges so far, I think.

I hope this helps a little, sorry if I said too much. I'm only lvl 45, and still need to do all that scale stuff. I dunno if I'm ever going to, but if I get FA, I don't think I'm going to do the whole Epic, prolly just gonna stop there.
