This is used for the quest called "Crest of the faery dragon" which is in turn used for the quest called "Friend of the tunarean court". Which results in a Ranger/Druid only ring, not a Paladin. I know because I clicked on these things called "links" which show additional information on the items listed. BTW, you left click on these "links" to see further information on items.
It's for a quest, silly ;). Already been confirmed, it's not really made to be worn, but if you do the quest you get a nice 10 cha 10 wis +buncha saves druid/ranger only ring.
Dark Elves can wear some druid items because there was a bug in the earlier EQ years, I believe, in which if you created a Dark Elf character, it allowed you to make it any class... yes any class, including Druids.
Hmmm im pretty sure what you were seeing is someone useing the old guise of the deciever, ya could use it from an inv slot like J boots so anyone could look like dark elf.

From my understanding this helm is to be turned in to Lord Gossimerwing to receive his crest as part of the Friends of the Tunarean Court series of quests. I don't think it's been officially posted yet, but under one of the threads someone gave the 5 known crest quest solutions...the only one that hasn't been solved yet is the Crest of the Unicorns, because it requires a trip to PoM to kill a high level Unicorn and the few that have done it don't know yet what to do with the loot.

First of all, if you aren't a ranger or druid of some elven descent, then don't both with this item, unless you want to give it to your twinked Ogre or Troll SK, or Barbarian Warrior. This item is for the Friend of the Tunarean Court quest. You DO give it to Lord Gossimerwing, in exchange for his crest. As far as the supposedly "unsolved" Crest of the Unicorns quest, you go to the PoM, kill him, and he drops a horn. There is a white stallion on the far side of the room from him, and you give him the horn, turning him into the lawful version of the black unicorn that you slayed. He gives you the Crest of the Unicorns. You know, if you people would research something before you post on it, you might have more information to offer. I found all this out on this site, as a matter of fact. Study hard, boys. =) Blessed be....
Really come on, show some intelligence here people.
WAR CLR PAL SHD BRD.... what are these? They are the plate wearing classes. This is obviously coded as a platemail item.
BAR TRL OGR... that are these? They are the large races. This item is obciously coded as large size only.
They are flags people. They are used to make a programmer's life easier. So he doesn't have to type in all the appropriate classes and races, he puts in two flags... plate and large.

If Verant uses flags to mark plate and large races on items they could also apply flags to filter which of the plate-using races could wear it. Ive seen it done before, apparently whomever made this item just got lazy.
