If you have 400 pp or so to spend on a ring, and you are fairly certain that you arent about to get it stolen from you, I recommend buying one of these 14MR rings. It doesn't take as much as you think to resist every root, snare, cling, etc that comes your way, I assure you. With 90 MR you can resist any magic based hostile spell, unless its direct damage, but you will greatly simplify the damage inflicted on you. Essential on Rallos Zek.

what is the maximum effective magic resistance???

maximum mr you can have is 500
1 enchanted velium bar + Jacinth.
The only problem with this is Jacinths drop in the planes and off of 51 + mobs. Good zones for high level gems :
Chardok,Sebillis, all planes
sure there are other zones but these zones have mobs regularly 51 +.

Jacinth drop from mobs under 51... I think it is 49+
