curse on the dagger

I just obtained one of this dagger. i truly like the stats but find the curse to be annoying. I have attempted to get the curse removed but am unable to find the quest to do it. Please inform me how to get this curse removed.

Ok, I'll refrain from flaming I guess since this is valid in Diku/Merc type muds but this is just retarder nonsense in EQ. :p

wish it where that easy. it is a proc not a curse in that manner. there may be a quest to remove the proc but i doubt it.

I don't use this weapon myself, but my tip would be to keep facing north while you attack a mob with it, to reduce the annoyance.
Here's a thought people...
# Apr 14 2002 at 12:45 AM Rating: Decent
If the proc is REALLY crippling you, target the main tank during battle and hit autofollow when you're behind a single mob... you'll always face the mob that way, proc or no proc.
Has it's uses

I looted this little weapon months ago (before I knew what it did) and then came here to find out about it. Being that I already had a Trak Tooth, this simply sat in my bag as a "I was there and looted this" type status symbol. Well our guild recently did another ToFS raid and we ended up fighting Tserrina Syl'Tor on the 7th floor. Suddenly I had every piece of sv magic item I could find on me. We positioned everyoe on the North side of her and let me stick to the South so I could backstab without fear or suddenly spinning away. There was a special benefit to fighting her in the far back cubby hole there. I was only blinded once, but there was a trap in the back (which also faced North) so I simply had to tap my sense traps hotkey to ensure I was still facing the correct way. We killed her around 4 times before I logged that night. I resisted (or was out of range of) every spell except the one blind spell. I also ended up with the Whip that procs Muscle Lock I. So now I have another weapon that sits in my bag. (Personally I find the Serrated Bone Dirk to be a better slowing weapon considering you wont need to swap it to backstab. And I can make a stronger version of Muscle Lock anyway.) So right now this Dirk falls into the resist gear section. But that is still better than being totally useless.
Good lil weap

Thing about this weapon is that its not only for a rogue. There are so many rogues getting pissed off about this weapon, but as a ranger, it is a fine 2nd for the GBS. You get 10 dex, 4str and more - plus a decent ratio. My lvl 35 ranger would love to use something like this. That dex is longed for especially when kiting with my crazy crazy bow. Anything that makes me crit more often with my bow is good in my book, and adding 10 to dex is great. No, it definitely is not the best weapon, and yes - I Did compare to the GBS which is a much better weapon (only comparison was because of the dex - but hey, if you have the money to spend on a GBS then fine - go for it - and if you are at the lvl to go for the GBS you shouldnt be going for this anyway, right?). But the ratio is not very bad, and I am sure a ranger of my lvl who appreciates speed and dex buffs would be completely happy wielding something like this. Hell, we use DH yaks that proc every once and awhile, and their ratio is just a smidge worse than this thing. I think its a great little weapon - maybe not the top piercer for a rogue, but then again its not rogue only.

Just my 2 cents.

Observations
# Jul 04 2001 at 1:14 AM Rating: Default
Just my observations on using this weapon as a 51 warrior (sorry, I'm not uber).

It does make you point true North. Ok, but an intelligent poster said that if you stand South of the mob you should be fine. While this isn't ideal for rogues in particular(hey, the mob could be facing South!), I'm quite enjoying this dagger as it DOES cause quite a bit of pain for the intended mob.

I have been stabbing with this dagger for an average of 28 a pop (off a 8/23!), and I have crit for 50+s. While this may not be a big deal for most of you, I would relate that this weapon causes more damage than my Cane of Tranquil does (11/22). Even my Kunzar (8/22) cannot outdamage this hidden beauty. And yes I have accounted for the Dex/Str differences.

I'm not sure about questing the dagger to reverse the curse, but for the current moment I'm quite happy using it as a main. I mean, if you have info for the dagger's quest, then by all means post it, so then another fine weapon doesn't get its reputation trashed.

* Just an update - Cane of the Tranquil is 11/25, sorry.

Also, I've been noticing lately that the dagger is beginning to make the mob turn around to face true North. It hasn't done this frequently, but every now and then the mob turns to face North for about half a second. I'm sure a rogue would appreciate that. *
Curesed

When you loot the dagger it is curesed you have to do a quest to make it uncuresed once uncuresed it will spin the target to face north
RE: Curesed

Thanks Verant
# May 12 2001 at 5:39 PM Rating: Default
I have one of these I got on a guild raid at the tower. I just wanted to post this to thank Verant again for another rogue frustration. I was very glad to have this to duel weild with my SBD untill the proc worked. Why ruin a good weapon when it is so hard to get a decent rogue piercer as it is? BTW to you above, the proc spins YOU around not the MOB, also it is not random, you always face north hence magnetic,,, imagine that huh? well anyways that is my post. If anyone can give me advise on a good weapon that isn't cursed/delay199/no longer dropped I'd be very thankfull,

Ok, all the info above is wrong, the weapon interrupts just bout 90% of the casting of the target. It is very usefull for any of the classes that are allowed to use it.

#Anonymous, Posted: May 24 2001 at 10:54 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) Umm, for a 52nd level, you sure don't know much. As someone who has one of these, I know exactly how it works, and it causes the WIELDER to face true north. If it's disrupting anything, it's because of the speed of the weapon. Please refrain from speaking about something you know nothing about.
It gets worse
# Apr 24 2001 at 12:56 PM Rating: Decent
I just got one of these daggers last night off Cara Omica. Not only is it cursed, but it's primary only. At the level you have to be to get this, you should already have a higher damage weapon making this one totally worthless. Speaking for myself, I can't picture giving up backstabbing for over 250 just to get a few strength and dexterity points. If this really was allowed in the secondary slot, it wouldn't be so bad. One could learn to tolerate the stupid proc. :)
Duel
# Apr 18 2001 at 1:18 AM Rating: Decent
This would be a blast to duel weild with a dirk of the traitor. You would spend the whole fight spinning in circles.
Dmg/Dly
# Apr 14 2001 at 5:39 AM Rating: Default
Sure, it's cr@ppy, but then it also has decent dmg dly. Just stay south of the mob ur attacking and you shouldn't worry bout having to constantly figure out which way the mob is
way cool

Dirk is magnetic for a reason...
# Feb 02 2001 at 11:18 AM Rating: Good
silly people, the dirk is nagnetic for a reason, the proc on it, Distraction is only distracting if you don't understand what it is.
have somebody identify it for you, you'll get this:
Item Lore: The Dirk points north.
Distraction IS true north spell. just stand south side of mobs and yer fine, proc no longer becomes a problem.

Warning
# Feb 01 2001 at 10:55 PM Rating: Default
This item is completely worthless. The effect is against the weilder plus it is no drop. With the added dex it procs even more during a fight so unless you just enjoy constantly having to search you target down while fighting pass this bad boy up. In my opinion it is a waste of toime to put a weapon like this in the game its not range, its no drop and a complete pain in the rump when using it.
RE: Warning
# Mar 21 2001 at 2:27 PM Rating: Default
I think you've missed the whole point of this weapon. I imagine they had Rogues in mind with this but thought to add to a couple other classes anyways to equip (but rogues are the ones that can use it well). If your a rogue & lets say group with a Rng, Dru, Nec, SK - this item is great. Reason is the other members snare. The critter starts to run & leaves their back totally exposed to the rogue to have a free for all stab'n good time. Rogues even get some darkness items too. With this weapon they could conceivably solo blues. So the proc isn't a complete waste of time. Its how you use it that counts :-)
RE: Warning
# Feb 14 2001 at 4:53 PM Rating: Default
like the glowing black sword. and sooo many other items, they make something decent and then give it some idiotic effect that ruins it.
RE: Warning
# Mar 12 2004 at 6:33 PM Rating: Decent
Glowing black sword on PVP for a pure unbuffed melee is nice to have. Especially as a non casting Warrior or Rogue. It removes bad effects also. just so you know. This weapon maybe is ment to be thus. Decent, decent delay, with a pain in the but curse. The more people post and complain, the more someone in Verant gets a chuckle I am sure.

it almost sounds like the spell whirl till you hurl. I am not sure but I believe all the spell does to the mob is spin them so they can not attack. Tho i could be very wrong. Just a suggestion. And sorry bout spelling and typind errors in a hurry to get to work
RE: meagosh
# Sep 05 2001 at 3:37 AM Rating: Default
whirl till you hurl is a pb stun... the mob just halts, and there never is any "spinning so they cant attack"... maybe for roleplaying sake thats what the spell is supposed to do, but when my enchanter casts it, thats not what actually happens.
Cursed Item
# Jan 12 2001 at 4:41 PM Rating: Default
I don't have one of these nor have i seen one, however I just wanted to mention that prior to the release of SoV verant made a post to the forums stating that we should expect to see some realy nice items with curses on them. Form what I read above this seems to fit the bill perfectly. An annoying proc but not a killer really. Nicely thought out item in my opinion as for the level a 10 dex add is VERY nice.
Concerned
# Feb 01 2001 at 10:50 PM Rating: Default
Wait one second. This weapon is deffinately a major distraction, and with the plus 10 dex makes the dagger proc even more.If you enjoy having to constantly be turning around during a fight to find your target then this is the blade for you.It drives me insane and in my oppinion completely worthless.
Ranged slot

I got one last night, it ONLY goes in the primary slot and the proc randomly turns you around (slightly annoying) I would classify this proc as a curse.

I don't have one of these, but I have played a necro and messed around with shadow step. It sounds like this might be a mini-port. Sometimes if there isn't room to move in the randomly chosen direction, you spin.
hmm....
# Dec 19 2000 at 9:13 AM Rating: Default
if this is a magnetic dirk of distraction...could it be that it spins you to face north? like a compass magnet? just an idea, somebody with one could check on it
RE: hmm....
# Dec 20 2000 at 3:18 AM Rating: Decent
wtf kinda ability is that? there is a spell called true north, and distraction doesnt sound like it, although if it procced on you, then maybe. and there is one weapon that does something crappy too you, dirk of the traitor.
