ousting casters on roll
# Oct 14 2001 at 11:57 AM Rating: Default
I hear of people saying "need before greed" and yet they still only include classes that melee. What about the casters that need the stat bonus and AC? I am a mage and right now, I have a raw silk sash as my waist item. I am a high enough lvl to do Kael, I have just never really bothered trying to camp for loot and such. I am now at a point where I need to upgrade my items just so I can survive. Yea, I won't really use the haste on this item, but I sure as hell can use the other stats. What I think Verant should do is make it so that haste will effect our spell casting. If we are hasted by 20% then we should be able to cast spells 20% faster than normal. That makes sense to me and would make it so that EVERYONE can use a haste item and eleminate the ******** of melees and casters. But I'll tell you this, if I go on a Kael raid and this drops, I sure as hell hope that I at least get a chance to roll on it because I actually NEED this. I would wear it immediately and for quite some time.

heh u arebing ludicrous if u think that a melee shoudl miss out on hast because YOU decided not to camp or obtain better than raw silk before going to KD to hunt. should we start an EQ welfare program to help all those too lazy or unfortunate to get the gear they need as they advance??

NBG? *shrug* GBN
# Oct 10 2001 at 8:17 AM Rating: Decent
Saw this drop off a Luittenant (sp?) near Tormax ramp...

LOL kinda sad...

Some dude won the belt and he was a wizard, i offered him an Idol of the thorned, CC arms, spider fur cloak and 200pp and he accepted in a flash... Have to say, this NBG thing doesnt quite work... Idol? 3 hour camp... CC arms... heh i got sleeves of the ancients in the bank, will do till i get more CC arms...

Anyways moral to the story is, this item is NBG!! but since it was an easy trade, have to say i feel lucky no other tanks on the raid won it =)

Very contentious belt :). I said it before and I'll say it again if you NEED this belt. Will wear it immediately and not go sell it tomorrow. You should get a shot at it.
Arena
# Sep 08 2001 at 6:30 AM Rating: Decent
My guild did an arena raid on kael last night and one of these dropped. I happened to be the lucky winner and as a 41 cleric am very happy with the belt =)
#REDACTED, Posted: Sep 03 2001 at 2:45 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) Yeah, need vs greed kinda means everyone statwise, it's got STR, INT and WIS, so I'd say in terms of "need" it shoudl just be determined by who needs the haste the most, starting with people that have the least haste already.
Haste % confirmed?
# Aug 26 2001 at 6:57 PM Rating: Decent
Just won one of these and I was wondering what is the final word on the actual haste. I mostly heard 21% but some people mentioned up to 35% (which is probly wrong, this is no CoF)

Anybody got a final figure?

listen i would gladly wear this...and i am a caster...i'm a shaman. and we can do desent (read as not pathetic) damage melee. shaman's also solo alot and this would be a great help. how many haste items have wis on them and good ac.
now b4 you start saying that i'm to low lvl to understand anything, i am lvl 33..so your right i am no where near kael lvl. but a good friend of mine is 52 and he still solo's,still melee's when in groups (not all groups but alot) and he still gets everything dot'd slow'd and everything else. why shouldn't we have a shot at this.SK's and pally's have class-haste belts.
so what you are sayin is that a pally/rang/SK should roll then get something better all of 2weeks later then they can sell it for 35k.

sk's,warrior's,monks, pallys and all the rest have SEVERAL other options for good haste items...what do shaman's get?

so if a shaman wants to role on this ,why shouldn't they be able to?(can't speak for other caster classes as i am a shaman, i would say most int classes wouldn't need it cos they can't use the haste part of the belt.)

Sure, sk's and pallies have class specific belts, that's true. I know of a quest version in PoA and of a drop in ToV. What you need to understand is that ToV is a far cry from Kael. You can round up all the people at the zone and do arena, you need to have maybe 30 players 57 plus to do a dragon in ToV. What you said is like saying that if there's a really good chanter only item in Sleepers, chanters are thereby excluded from rolls on all int casters items in evry othere zone, down to Omen and such.
RE: Selfish lamers
# Sep 18 2001 at 12:04 AM Rating: Good
At the level you get could this you will not be meleeing.
& I am sure a minor consideration for your guild will be how much it helps you solo (helps the guild alot I am sure =P).
Go to Howling Stones & get a snot girdle & leave the haste for the classes that really need (ummm, you do have/get haste spells).
Dropped tonight
# Aug 15 2001 at 7:00 AM Rating: Decent
Was in kael today and a trooper in the arena dropped this belt. Was complete open lotto on this item. It was a guild raid that I got invited too due to their lack of clerics. A druid ended up winning the belt. I failed to mention this was the only item that dropped, due to the fact the guild was complete morons(wish i knew this before we got waxed) Never heard of it, but the tanks thought it was not very good haste(guess they were wrong is why looking it up for the future). Personally think it should be tank type only, if it is better than what they have and will not sell it like a lewt *****. If you are doing arena as a caster/priest and you need this belt, you are pathetic, get some real gear. 10ac 5 wis/5int is nice belt, but personally I prefer haste on my tanks instead of on me.
Need.....
# Aug 11 2001 at 6:07 AM Rating: Default
My guild always says "need before greed" so in this case everyone needs it because it adds to stats that all races need , therefore everyone should have a chance at getting it.
RE: GBN.....
# Nov 07 2001 at 8:37 AM Rating: Default
add to stats:

10ac only stat add i can see is usefull
for non melee ( u r going to tank? u gonna live 1 second longer with this belt? )

(well im oposing to casters right now acctually)

STA - ok it s a lit bit HP - really small HP acctually when ur defense sucks

5int 5 wis - adds 1 int or wis cuz getting
4int or 4 wis belt is piece of cake

as for believe that haste items is common:
then why price of them is so high?

for example very common FBSS at Drinal worth about 5-6k right now, and was 8k some time ago
(that item have ONLY haste if someone dont know)
http://eqdb.allakhazam.com/item.html?item=899

//.. if someone dont know u can buy efreeti boots
(9int 9wis) for that price ..//

http://eqdb.allakhazam.com/item.html?item=1766

/em know that everyone roll on FBSS at Frenzy camp, becuz caster can use it too /grin

Does this thing come with a box of tissues? I've never seen so much crying over one item in the 2 years I've played. Do you really care that much of who recieves this item? If i recieve this item on Therris-Thule is it gonna ***** your game up on <insert server name>? Dont worry about who gets it, worry about how to get it. Its a nice item for many different classes and im sure most people present would like to win the lotto if there is one. Many posts stated the obvious, if your here fighting your probably orginized and already have some sort of pre-set loot laws laid out.
For my view as a Shaman, I have a cobalt drake belt that is much nicer than this, its +8 wisdom and other stats and only cost me 7k.
RE: Tissues
# Jan 14 2002 at 3:35 PM Rating: Decent
Let's look at this logically.

First, if you are in a pickup group in Kael, and you get this item to drop, Grats, most pickup groups in Kael are doomed in the arena!! All classes should roll. This item is an upgrade for many classes due to its stats. Pickup groups of course don't have the benefit of the greater good to consider, which brings me to my second point.

Second, if you are in a guild/raid on Kael, and this items drops, it should be whoever is calling the loot for the guilds call on who should roll for it. Who he/she feels should be able to roll, is thier call. In my humble opinion and this is strictly opinion, I would make the call that this belt would be most beneficial to tanks first and foremost. Not because casters don't need it, but because it would benefit the guild more to have haste with more AC on the tanks at all times than 10 AC and some INT/WIS with wasted haste on a caster. To the shaman that said he could use more than a tank, if you are soloing post 50 (which is the base level you should be to fight in Kael) Get your butt to Sebilis and find a group for some real xp, everyone can use a shammy there! And if you are tanking a mob up close post 50 (one that gives xp) your gonna die...

I like my silvery belt of contention, boosts my damage output and adds to my AC which gives the cleric more mana to heal me with.
#REDACTED, Posted: Aug 06 2001 at 11:14 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) No one should be rolling on this item except for Beastlords.
#REDACTED, Posted: Jul 25 2001 at 10:57 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) This has haste, if this was awarded to a caster then it is a complete waste when there are other belts out there that give same or better wis or int this should go to only melee classes, if you dont understant why then you're a total newbie
Depends
# Jul 24 2001 at 6:03 PM Rating: Default
In a pick up group (LOL, try to get a pick up group to fight in the arena in Kael =/), everyone WILL roll on this. Period. If I'm just another member of the group and this drops, I'm rolling. 30kpp is a lot of money, and my guild has some tanks that NEED haste.

In a guild-raid (most likely in this situation), tanks and tanks only for this item. Period. If a necro in my guild rolls on this, hell, if I roll on this, I'm out of the guild. Period. Its your guild that gets you the great items, and this item will help your tanks a hell of a lot more than it will help your casters.

Guild = need only

Pick-up group = greed rules.

IMHO
RE: Depends
# Aug 21 2001 at 5:19 AM Rating: Decent
I have to apologize as I have no idea what need before greed means in a game where I can sell a 30k item and buy a couple of things that I need. I look at no drop items as need before greed. I look at items that can be sold on the open market as open territory.

"But my warrior would really BENEFIT from this!"

"Fine. But my chanter (or whatever) will sell it and buy a (whatever), which I will really BENEFIT from."

It's just all sort of a moot argument in my mind but hey people like rools.
RE: Depends
# Sep 29 2001 at 4:16 AM Rating: Default
If this is the attitude you have i'm damn glad you aren't in my guild...Sure we could all use more pp, but you wouldn't be too excited if i, as a ranger, started rolling agianst you on plate/silk/leather drops with the logic that i can sell a multiquest of it for gobs of pp and i need that pp to buy something i need.
RE: Depends

If you could use that plate/silk/leather drop, I hope you'd be rolling too. Anyway I was talking about ALL/ALL drops.
RE: Depends
# Aug 22 2001 at 1:48 AM Rating: Decent
i can totally understand how you would want to make money off an item but imagine you're a warrior that really needs to have that jade mace you've been wanting for the past 2 months... jade mace drops and it's given to a druid or some other casting class that doesn't want it NEARLY as much as you... i think that the need before greed rule is awesome... i think the reason to kill is for fun and if an item drops the person that can benefit the item the most at the moment should get it... i believe that the game is ruined when it's broken down to camping equip just to sit around trying to sell it for a couple hours then sitting around for a couple more trying to buy something(s) at a decent price... that's just my opinion

RE: Depends
# Sep 28 2001 at 9:21 PM Rating: Decent
This is an ALL / ALL item. Therefore, no one *needs* it. And everyone wants it. It's not part of a class quest. It's not, for example, a warrior-specific item. It's something anyone would want. Therefore, while I understand what you're saying (and agree with you wholeheartedly with regard to your example of the Jade Mace - I'm a ranger, and therefore am very anxious to win the roll on my epic quest piece (axe) from the City of Mist.) I'm speaking however not of these items, which should certainly be need-before-greed, but rather I'm speaking of the item this message thread takes place under.... the ALL / ALL Silvery Belt of Contention. The way our guild coaliation handles rolls on items such as these is:

Anybody who fought the beast that dropped it, can roll for it.
RE: Depends
# Jan 04 2002 at 4:31 AM Rating: Decent
It's funny how much people will rationalize an arguement to make their point. The above poster says since the item is all/all, no one *needs* it? I have 6 words for that....Good Lord! Look at the stats!
Sheesh! Almost every item in the game has SOME stat which will benefit SOME class. This does not mean that that if some all/all ring with +10 Int and +75 mana drops, it should be rolled on by my dumb-*** Troll warrior so her skill raises will be easier? OF COURSE the ring would benefit her SOMEWHAT, but wouldn't it benefit a pure-caster class to a MUCH higher degree? It's obvious that most of the whiners in this thread have no idea how loot is properly distibuted at higher levels. The good drops are just too rare to be replaced and should go to whomever will benefit most. This way, the GUILD benefits most and EVERYONE ends up with better gear down the road.
My guild raided Kael tonight and one of these dropped of a Veteran. A Necro who just joined asked why he couldn't roll on it and was quickly told to be quiet by everyone else present, including one of our Chanters. /cheer Abee :) I won the roll and handed my Silver Chitin Handwraps off to another warrior. Now our guild is that much stronger....NUFF SAID.

Let me clear this all up.... it is 21% haste, NOT a proc.... Warriors, Monks, SK's and Pallys roll on this, no one else. Kael can be done with 2 groups of an average level of 50... Dont listen to these other people, they have no idea what they are talking about.

i can tell you make a lot of friends saying that crap. this may be a haste item but htis is also a good item for a caster and they should get a roll. the only way to do this is to let everyone have a roll. if you dont you are just trying to find ways to give yourself more of a chance to get the item cause your too !@%# greedy. well thats my 2cp on the matter.
RE: ...
# Sep 06 2001 at 11:57 AM Rating: Default
Like hell. 30k item because of 5int or 5wis? Yeah...ok! Greed = you boohooing over a haste belth with ac that you think you need for 5 to your casting stat. I play 2 casters and a melee. You're just a jerk for taking a roll in a NBG group if you're not melee.
RE: ...
# Jul 09 2001 at 2:14 AM Rating: Decent
The simple fact of the matter is look at the damn title of the belt: it is the "Silvery Belt of Contention." Its *designed* to be wanted by *everyone.* It has a phenominal AC and good stats for a caster, and it has haste for a melee. Not only that, but its not No Drop. Everyone can use it (unless by some miracle they have something better in their waist slot,) everybody will want it, everybody should have a roll on it. Its not even so Uber that you know the guild will have already decided on who should get it (like, say Yelinak's Talisman which is AC 8, +7 to everything, +40 mana and HP with a haste effect.) But, considering the other beltwear out there, everyone will want it.

If you're going to rule out casters because of the haste effect, heck, why not rule out Paladins because their PoA belt blows this away (better stats and a better haste.) Rule out Warriors, Rogues, and Monks because it has Int and Wis (what do they need with a +5 to both!) That leaves SKs, Rangers and Bards. Wait, don't Bards not melee after a certain level? Rule them out too! And I'm sure if you really want to, you can figure out a way to rule out Shadowknights and Rangers. There! Now use this formula (with one important exception) to justify why everyone but your class should be excluded from the roll!

Your justification of ruling out Rangers, Bards, and casters is just as arbitrary as what I've outlined above. If you really want to tick off all of these people in your group/raid, be my guest. But don't be surprised if they take extreme exception to your view, and maybe look elsewhere in the future for raiding partners.

Of course, this item is nicknamed "Guild-breaker" for a reason. ;) Frankly, the only way I see to not **** off somebody is to let *everybody* roll on it. You would be well advised to think on that.

Just play nice.

If you actually look closely at this item iut does say ALL/ALL so therefore all this discussion about who should have it is moot... It is useful to EVERY class.

If i help kill it i want a chance at the roll. i could give a d*mn if you need it and i dont, we arent talking about a nodrop item, we are talking something for an alt or 30kpp. get real all, no reason you should get it and someone else not because your you. no drop is a different story, if i helped kill it, id win roll and you can buy it if you want, thats eq, Deal with it.

What people don't understand...
# Jun 14 2001 at 4:44 AM Rating: Decent
I wonder how many people who are playing their casters who are posting about this are in a guild who has the capability to throw together a raid of the Kael Arena (not that hard, actually), and kill enough of these baddies to actually see one of these things drop. My guess is not a lot, and they are just trolling.

To everyone who is saying "It's all/all item, my druid/wizard/necro should be able to get in on the roll!" You don't know what you are you are talking about. These things don't drop at the zone line. This isn't a 6 person pickup group kind of thing. It takes around 2 groups of 50+ to be able to reasonably hold an area in the arena area (3 or 4 if you want to be guaranteed no wipeouts). It takes a concentrated effort (read "GUILD RAID") to get one of these things.

Any guild that lets it's casters in on something like this deserves to be disbanded (either that, or praised since every other melee in attendance either has one or has better). Any guild that tries it, is going to be rather caster heavy in the very near future after all the melees quit. And no, not EVERY belt to be acquired post 50 that casters can use has haste on it (Netted Kelp Sash comes to mind). Any caster who wants to be in on the "roll" is really thinking "Gee, I can sell this, buy a braided cinch cord (or reed belt), and still have 35k (or 29k) left over!!!" And THAT is the greed you are seeing. Items this nice in any guild worth it's salt go to the people that will make the operation run better, not the people who ***** and whine about being left out on an item that while they can technically use serves no real purpose to them.

Besides, with so few good intelligence or wisdom giving belts out there, the waist should be a slot you have a high mana giving item on anyhow. You don't need a 35kpp 10ac haste belt.

Warriors, monks, rangers, rogues, shadowknights, and paladins (in no particular order) are the only ones with a LEGITMATE claim to use this belt. Anyone who disagrees, doesn't know their *** from their elbow.

(On a related note, if this belt or anything like it is merited on a raid, anyone selling merit loot before they have anything "better" should be deguilded immediately and blackballed)
